Okay, a bit of background knowledge. Skies of Arcadia was a critically acclaimed RPG for the Dreamcast a few years back. It was re-released with additional content as Skies of Arcadia: Legends for Gamecube. Both releases were largely ignored by the public, but it's maintained a fairly consistent high score in pretty much any review I've read. Wiki article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skies_of_Arcadia)
Now apparently there's a sequel! This is fantastic news, as Skies of Arcadia is definitely up there in my top five games.
A little out of left field, however, is news of Sega reviving Skies of Arcadia. The sky pirate RPG was criminally overlooked, despite releases on both Dreamcast and GameCube, but apparently Sega been quietly preparing a sequel to the swashbuckling adventure.

It's not much, but it's something at least. I was wondering, do any other GWers have any other news on the sequel, or is anyone else as excited as I am?

Actually I just got that issue of IGM today...hmm it seems more like a rumor than truth to me,I also read in another magazine that Symphonia is getting a pokemon-esque spin-off
-
It was rumored earlier this year as well but turned out false alongside a host of other supposed games. Also Otomon, do they mean something strictly around raising monsters or something? I do know the Symphonia sequel for Wii allows you to train and use monsters in your fights and such. (think the fight with Celsius from Symphonia where she had that ice beast fighting alongside her)
-
wait so it's false
god damnit
-
Skies of Arcadia is maybe my favorite RPG so if this rumor is true that makes me a very happy person.
-
Oh fuck I loved this game so much. This had better be true, and it better be coming out for a system I own.
-
this would be the best thing i have heard in years....
-
This isn't the first time that there has been a rumored sequel, most people would like to think there will be a sequel because Overworks never outright denied there would not be a new game. This is my favorite RPG for a number of reasons so if they manage not to completely fuck a sequel up I would be tempted to buy whatever platform this would come out on.
Reading the comments on 1up, I can't believe people still actually think Sega is going to create another console.

I think I am the only person in the world who found the original STARTLINGLY UNFUN, and I sort of think the reason many people love it as much as they do is because it was one of the few RPGs for both the Dreamcast and Gamecube.
Can someone explain to me what the deal is because I cannot comprehend how people are so into this game.

i don't know about everybody else but it's kinda just nostalgic value for me
like it was the second RPG i ever played (the first was Grandia II) so i was really into it. now i pretty much hate rpgs for the most part (still want to play smt: nocturne though!!) but i still sort of have a hard on for this game

nah playa
imo skies of arcadia is a mediocre rpg at best, and i was actually tempted to come into the topic and be like "this game sucked why is everyone so pumped" but TO EACH THEIR OWN, i guess! but uh, since the story/gameplay/characters were, to me, so indifferent (i was even trying to like it a lot since i bought it on ds' suggestion), the only reason i can really think of why people would go apeshit over it is 1) nostalgia, or 2) the setting is actually pretty cool. like SKYPIRATES man. we don't see enough of that shit in games. that's half the reason crimson skies 2 is seriously one of my favorite settings. but that was more of a steampunk skypirate feel, whereas this has more of a fantasy skypirate thing going on. still, it's close enough that the setting alone would appeal to me and perhaps even make up for the fact that everything else about the game was pretty average/boring, if i wasn't so harsh on most rpgs i play. if i had to take a guess, i'd say the whole romance/general OHGOD SO COOL factor of a sky pirate story is what appeals to people. but maybe i am wrong and they just think that it is better than we do.

hey roman how could you even be bothered to play rpg's again if your first experience was GRANDIA 2
i would be so turned off if that was the first rpg i experienced.

I would totally freakin' buy a 360 or a PS3 if it meant I had to play this game.

Here's another source...
Noriyoshi Oba: I don't think it's such a violent game! [laughs] The Skies of Arcadia sequel is in the planning stages at the moment
. And this was from 2003, so it should be getting fairly close to done(well, some games take like 6 years I suppose..)
