Title: [Ask]SLI Ready?
Post by: Ash on November 23, 2007, 04:15:24 am: I'm starting to build a computer but before I decide on any parts, I'd like to know about this SLI thing. Is it worth investing in? Does anybody have any experience using it?

Mind you I'm not looking to break the bank with my PC, but if it's a solid investment I won't mind spending a little extra.

Depending on what your interests in gaming are, you probably wouldn't need it. If you want to get an ultra high end computer, then the obvious choice would be dual 8800's. If you're aiming lower than that, then don't get SLi. Theres really no point in buying two 7200's if you can just get an 8500 or something. However, supposedly something like two 6800's are more powerful than one 7900.

I'm not too smart so don't base your final opinion off me.

Also its implications aren't just super high end.

I got two 7600 GTs for 90$ each, and I got the same performance of cards that were 270$ at the time.

I'm currently planning to get an 8600 GT, which runs about as fast as my current sli config. Then later on I can throw down another 90$ (or less) and have near 8800 speeds at 3/5 the price.

It's great if you can only afford one good video card, cause you can just throw in another one whenever you can afford to.

or if you want just get a ridiculously powerful one, that way you wont need to upgrade for a while!

sounds like somebody is.... overcompensating
