Title: See the extraordinary 10 pound hairball!

The link to the original source contains a picture. It is pretty fucking gross, actually. This link (http://nmhm.washingtondc.museum/exhibits/virtual/hairball.html) shows pictures of a giant hairball being surgically removed from a human's stomach (scroll to the bottom).

I realize that this is kind of just a linkdump topic but, man, seriously, this is fucking weird.

Didn't they show this exact story on Ripleys a few years ago? But still, its amazing how such a seemingly harmless habbit can haunt you later on. I wonder what said effects nail biting has :fogetshifty:

Whoa, hair eating?  That is one odd condition.

How the heck do you eat hair anyway? Last time I tried, I wasn't able to swallow it.

Good god, it's like that scene from Alien except twice as large.

As stated in the article, it is a medical condition.  I'm sure if you had it, you wouldn't be so removed from eating it.

Anyway though, this is absolutely disgusting.  Glad I keep mine on my head.

Back when I had a thicker beard I used to chew at my moustache. Obviously it wasn't full strands of hair or anything, but I actually was biting off the ends of my moustache, so hair was getting into my stomach! I assume tiny molecules of hair can be removed without surgery, though.

It sounds pretty odd, but it was more of a nervous habit (like nail biting, which I don't do) and it actually isn't as gross as it comes across. Actually eating full strands of hair is a bit crazy, though!

edit: not crazy as in crazy person but crazy as in a pretty interesting thing to think about (including the causes and perceived [if ][/if] benefits)!

this is why i had to have my apendix removed, it's a really terrible condition. my parents made me wear a hat constantly from 8- 13 and we don't have many family photos from that period either, just because my head was all patchy. i'm all better now though! that was a long time ago. the main thrill is from plucking the hair out, eating it is just a reflex afterwards.

Interesting. The picture appears legit...why the hell would you keep the hairball, though?

i kept the pain and i kept the scars, it reminds me that the past is real.

whenever i get any urges i just take it out and look at what i could become.

Don't believe climbtree. What he is actually holding is potatus arcticus, or the northern wooly potato.

This species is nearing extinction and it makes me sick in these times of global warming to see such blind ignorance.

Wow, is it hard or is it soft and fluffy? What does it smell like?

when it first came out it was hard and smelly but now that it's dried it's sort of flakey and soft. i had to vaccuum after i pulled it out because tiny peices of hair went everywhere

Hey climbtree I just had the best idea ever. Why don't you add tiny plastic eyes and a plastic mouth, so that it looks some kind of toy, and then you take pictures of it and call it modern art?

Next time, make a fake Wikipedia page about your fake potato. Someone might believe you for a few minutes, that way.
