My current mobo and processor (ABit USA kv8 pro and AMD athlon 3000+ respectively) suck dick and are incredibly slow. Not to mention that the second IDE slot on the mobo is busted, so if it plug in my cd drive my computer crashes.
I was thinking about this pairing:
CPU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103767)
Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128014)
Is this a good choice? I know absolutely fuck-all about motherboards and CPU's, except that the socket types have to match, so any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Looks good, but AM2 boards are mostly (or maybe even all) DDR2. Was your old board DDR2? If not you would also have to buy new ram.

Man, you could just get a quad core for $80 more.

And yeah, you're probably going to have to buy new ram. You can get some good DDR2 667mhz or 800mhz for $50-$60.

Phenoms are designed for socket AM2+ though, so he would have to get a more expensive motherboard as well.

I've got DDR2 ram right now I believe.
edit: oh fucking hell it is DDR

Luckly DDR2 is cheap as F*** now. If you are limited to 200$ which I am guessing based on the choices you are asking about. Here is what I will recommend (since it sounds like you need ram now)
CPU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103868)
Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128014)
Memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146560)
(201$ w/ shipping)
1GB is enough to getcha through most things nowadays. Its not much compared to what most computers (should) come with but it should do until you can get more... If you need more Ram but need to stay within 200$, here is another lineup thats not half bad.
CPU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103868)
Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127026)
Memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146699)
(198$)
Either setup would be pretty decent in my opinion...
Edit: With shipping your last setup was roughly 207$

heh, i went with what i had and chipped in 46 bucks of my own money for 2gb of ram, and now the problem is
there is only 1 IDE slot (i've got 2 HDDs and 2 CD drives) and the SLI slots are MOTHERFUCKING PCI-E which is something I FORGOT TO CHECK and so i have to go to best buy tomorrow and drop another 100 on two graphics cards.
on a side note if anyone wants to buy 2gb DDR400 ram and a GF 6800GT 256mb for 100 bucks, PM for details.

You dont have to get two immediately, just get the best single card you can afford now, and get the same one later (and it will be a bit cheaper by then). Better to get one good 200$ card now than two 100$ ones that will barely amount to the 200$ card (I'm assuming you didn't mean 100$ for both cards, because not only is it doubtful you could get two sli-able PCIE cards for that much, but the performance of them would no doubt be less than a majority of the 100$ single card solutions available).

I got one $100 card for right now (XFX Geforce 8500GT FATAL1TY edition) because i had a 100 dollar best buy gift card. I'll get another one later.
