Title: Let's all play Progress Quest together!
Post by: HL on December 28, 2007, 06:45:46 am
Progress Quest
Progress Quest is a "Zero-Player" game, that is a parody of many popular MMORPGs, mainly Everquest. Once you load the game and roll your character with many amazing races & classes to choose from (YOU TOO CAN BE A DOUBLE WOOKIE ROBOT MONK!!!, etc) the game plays itself for you. You will slay monsters, get items, and all that.

The game uses little to no resources, and as such, you can "play" it while you do ANYTHING on your PC. Awesome!

You can make an account on www.progressquest.com and join the GW guild I just made by hitting CTRL+G then typing From Russia With Foget into the box.

I would like to ask you all to roll your characters on the  Pemptus realm for this Guild, since it is the newest realm and there is less spawn campers and what not.. *wink wink*

Here is what the game looks like:

Check out those hardcore 3D graphics!!!

Anyways, thought that this would be cool. I always got a kick out of Progress Quest, it is to date probably the "least shittiest MMORPG you will never play".

Links:
Progress Quest Website: www.progressquest.com (make account, make sure to choose Multiplayer and Pemptus once in-game)
GamingW Guild "From Russia With Foget [GW]" page: http://www.progressquest.com/guild.php?id=12750

If enough people join, it'll be awesome!

Feel free to comment, discuss min/maxing your character builds etc.

This was just the little kick I needed to finally turn my Level 60 Demicanadian Runeloremaster character back on.

Reading the classes and races never fails to remind me of chef.

What a horrible combination, everyone knows the Demicanadian racial doesn't pair well with magic-user classes.

You should of went Demicanadian Slow Poisoner or Ur Paladin.

True, but Big Sister C and Magnetic Orb CXXXIV are just so great at killing foetal Yeenoghus, and those yeenoghu flails sell for a ton!

It keeps saying they sent a mail with the validation code, but I don't get anything.

Well, I'll try again later.

The game came out in 2002, and I know someone posted it on GW at some point.  As for who posted it, I have no idea.

This is something that's really only funny the first time you see it... :fogetnah:

it's part of the joke, since its a parody of MMORPGs, Progress Quest players tend to parody how the average MMORPG person acts.

Okay, playing it now. Joining the Guild. (my name is Krezjhnef and I'm an Enchanted Motorcycle Birdrider).

I've played two enchanted motorcycles to well past level 60 and lost my saves for both of them. Until they implement remote saving I'm not bothering again.

Remote saving? And how do you lose your saves... how does it even save? Automatically?

how does it even save?
Whenever you quit it automatically saves a file (.pq I believe) in the same folder the .exe is in

What

That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard...

(that would require these actually being servers)

EDIT: I am noticing that I am getting an assload of spells.

I let my Land Squid Voodoo Princess go nuts at work today on my laptop, got him/her/it up to level 12 after killing many boy scouts, girl scouts, and bacon elementals. I also collected quite a few gorgon testicles and kobold penises.

This "game" is fun to watch.

You know I really think 7 is a pretty good rating for "meh." I mean a grade of C is about the average, and as far as I know the term "meh" applies to distinctly average things. So with a grading of 7/10, something that is pretty average overall I think "meh" is a perfectly good term to use.

How does Multiplayer in this game work? Given that it plays itself, how do created characters by different people interact with each other?

Slime finger is worthless even at level DCCCXXIX, Spectral Miasma however takes a huge power increase at level CCXXXII and is down right ridiculous at level DLVI(i got it at DCII right now).  Also guys, make sure you keep Nester's Bright Idea(mine is at CDLXIX) up at all times! A may not seem like much at first, but it near essential later on.

Part of the joke of Progress Quest is that your character "grinds" for a bunch of stuff that in the end means nothing (ie: spells/equipment/etc all do nothing) just like you do in a real MMORPG, therefore the players joke about what the spells/equipment/etc would actually do were this a real MMORPG.

Don't you mean Malignant? If he's only just at the Titan Squirrel it's possible he hasn't done the quest to get Tumor (Malignant) yet, as it's pretty far away from the main story areas of Act III.
