Alrighty, GW! Here is you chance to pick what you think was the best game of the year!
Part I - January 1st - January 4th: Everyone should post their top 5 games of 2007. Any system is acceptable, just as long as it was released sometime between January 1st, 2007 and now. Preferably multi-region games as well, so no Japan or Europe only games. No need to put them in any particular order either, just list what you though was good this year.
Part II - January 5th - January 7th: At this point I'll take the top 10 games mentioned in this topic and create a poll with them. You'll then get your chance to vote what you think should be Game of the Year.
And to add a little spice, everyone should also nominate two additional games. "Worst Game of the Year" and "Biggest Let Down of the Year". Worst game could just be the game you hated so damn much, or maybe it really had a lot going against it. And the biggest let down is a game you felt didn't live up to your expectations.
Enough talk, have at it!
1. Assassin's Creed
2. Bioshock
3. Super Mario Galaxy
4. Half-Life 2: Orange Box (specifically Portal, though TF2 is awesome)
5. Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
Worst Game: Two Worlds (not a lot I could think of this year, and the little time I did spend with Two Worlds was absolutely dreadful)
Biggest Let Down: Mass Effect (Don't get me wrong, the game is excellent, but from what I had read and seen the game was supposed to be phenomenal. It just felt very unpolished to me)
-
1. Bioshock
2. Team Fortress 2
3. Super Mario Galaxy
4. Crysis
5. Orange Box
Worst Game: Two Worlds. This game was SO BAD.
Biggest Let Down: Two Worlds. It sounded so cool, but...when I played it....uhg...t.t
-
1. Call of Duty 4
2. Crysis
3. Team Fortress 2
4. Rock Band
5. Bioshock (haven't played it but I think it deserves to be here regardless)
Worst game: Soldier of Fortune: Payback. What a shitty, shitty game.
Biggest let down: The Witcher. I heard some pretty great things about it, but it was one of the most boring games I've ever played.
-
1. two worlds
2. the witcher
3. soldier of fortune: payback
will figure out the other two when I play more games.
-
1. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
uh... I don't know what else even came out in 2007. Can someone put up a list of 2007 releases?
-
1: BioShock
2: Mass Effect
3: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
4: Super Mario Galaxy
5: Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Worst Game: Odin Sphere. So amazingly beautiful... but so fucking boring and mediocre.
Biggest Let Down: Clive Barker's Jericho. Undying was amazing... this game was just barely average.
Runner up for the biggest let down (sorry, I just had to add this): Persona 3. I was expecting some Persona 2 awesomesauce but nope ANIME SCHOOL GIRLS IN GIANT DEMON SCHOOL DUNGEON CRAWL UR WAY 2 SUCCESS LULZ
-
1. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
uh... I don't know what else even came out in 2007. Can someone put up a list of 2007 releases?
Here you go VB:
It isn't every game but its the most notable releases so...

-
Half-Life 2: Episode 2, but I'm not a big gamer.
-
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Crysis
3. Bioshock
4. The Orange Box (Portal and TF2 ^^)
5. Guitar Hero 3
-

Oh, thanks.
1. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
2. Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
3. Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings
4. Odin Sphere
5. Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour
-
I don't think I've even played seven new games this year.
1. Zelda: TP
2. DBZ: BT2
3. Wii Sports
4. Wii Play
That's all the NEW games I've played this year. That I liked.
Biggest Let Down-Gears of War. All that hype and then it just ends up being a third person shooter with a cover function. Whoopie.
Worst Game-Uh... Wii Play
I don't play as much as I'd like!
-
Aren't all of those 2006 games (well aside from the DBZ game I have no idea about it).
-
1. TES Oblivion, Shivering Isles
2. Bioshock
3. Portal (Orange Box)
4. Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (aka remake of Rondo of Blood in 2.5D and a port of Symphony of the Night on PSP)
5. Call of Duty 4
Worst Game: This was a good year actually. Even the FPSs played differently... FPSs being a genre I barely considered a genre at all (felt very samey for years). I spent all of my time playing worthy games... so I have yet to experiance the worst.
Biggest Letdown: My boys did the concept art of Assasin's Creed... there where big promises made from them and a lot of hype from everybody else.. but the game was beat in 2 days.. though it took less time for me to get bored of the rehash of rehashes. Play the game for an hour and you pretty much experianced all there is to experiance throughout the entire game. It was over for me by the sixth assasination. And it's not like gameplay was the only problem... but lets just say that the story didn't exactly help me stay interested. Don't get me wrong.... it was interesting... but not in the good way. The effect of all this was augmented by the fact that I bought it weeks before I had enough cash to replace my 360 (that was red lighted at the time.... with no warranty). I waited eagerly to play this game.... and I ended up replaying 80 hours (so far) of Oblivion on my new 360 instead. Aint that a bitch.
-
1. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
2. Halo 3
3. Unreal Tournament 3
4. Supreme Commander
5. Madden 2008
-
1. Call of Duty 4
2. Aquaria
3. Portal
4. The Witcher
5. Bioshock
Honorable mentions: World in Conflict, Crysis and the other Orange Box games.
Worst Game: Supreme Commander - I HATED this thing, man. I don't even know why. I played through all of the slow ass first level, finally beat it, then went on to the second, got right to the end (that's like an hour++) and my guy died.. then I found out it doesn't autosave. Aargh!
Biggest letdown: Two Worlds, easily. I really had hoped it would be good :(.
-
1. Halo 3
2. Portal
3. Call of Duty 4
4. Assassin's Creed
5. Stranglehold
Halo 3 for the incredible multiplayer and added Stranglehold just because it is ridiculously and hilariously fun. Plus it has Chow Yun Fat. *pow*
-
1) God of War II (Totally forgot about this one....)
2) Call of Duty 4
3) Mass Effect
4) Bioshock
5) Orange Box (If it counts as one game?)
Runner up: Sam and Max Season 1 (Needs a spot on my list regardless)
Worst Game: Uh.... I can't say I played any REALLY bad games this year... I'd have to say either Assassin's Creed or The Witcher (And I actually like both those games, they'd just have to be my least-favorite)
Biggest Letdown: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (Another game I liked, but still they pretty much promised EVERYTHING from the game, it would have been impossible to live up to the hype.)
-
I only have four because hey, I don't play tons of new games.
Actually no, including Aquaria I have five.
1. Crysis
2. Folklore
3. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
4. Aquaria
5. Dirt
-
Reppin' fighting games once again:
1) Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3/X360)
2) Mass Effect (X360)
3) Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (PS2/Wii)
4) Contra 4 (NDS)
5) Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
-
1) Super Mario Galaxy (WII)
2) Rock Band (XBOX 360/PS3)
3) The Orange Box (XBOX 360/PS3)
4) Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3)
5) Sonic Rush Adventure (NDS)
Worst Game: Like a lot of other people, I don't think I've really played a game this year that I could outright condemn, so I don't think it's fair I even supply a response in this category.
Biggest Letdown: Dewy's Adventure (WII). Seriously, this game had so much potential and flubbed it by having wonky tilt controls.
-
1. Orange Box (Portal and TF2 Mainly)
2. Mass Effect
3. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl
4. Super Mario Galaxy
5. Contra 4
-
I don't even think I've played 5 games this year. :(
So... let's see what I have played:
1) The Orange Box (PC)
2) Unreal Tournament 3 (PC)
3) World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (PC, expansion)
4) Overlord (PC)
5) Puzzle Quest (PC)
5! and all PC.
-
I'm going to be a tad different.
1. Persona 3
2. Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations
3. Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
4. Odin Sphere
5. Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Worst Game- Fusion Frenzy 2, just *shutter*
Biggest Letdown- Trauma Center: New Blood. I was hoping 2-player surgery would be more fun than that... >_>
Yeah I don't have a PS3 or a 360. I played Fusion Frenzy 2 at a friends house and I'm pretty sure he went suicidal after realizing how much money he spent on that... thing.
-
1. MLB power pros (one of my favorite. Japanese sports game maybe because it has RPG elements in it. wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jikky%C5%8D_Powerful_Pro_Yaky%C5%AB_series/) )
2. Persona 3 (A game that teaches your kids to point a gun to there heads and shot them self’s with it for what you may ask to releases the manifestation in inside there head.) :fogetgasp:
3. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction ( what can I say I love Ratchet and Clank games
4. Folklore (was at least fun to play but I'm not a Folkwhore)
5. God of War II (did some one say blood and what… did I hear nudity) :naughty:
Worst Game- Assassin's Creed looks good and play ok but games that make you do the samething over and over and over with no freedom at all make me sick.
Biggest Letdown-Don't have one.
-
I cannot believe I'm the only one who would vote for Shivering Isles by now.
-
I cannot believe I'm the only one who would vote for Shivering Isles by now.
hey, i'm the only one who voted for virtua fighter 5 and it's probably the best fighting game ever made.
-
Call of Duty 4: Easily a No-Brainer, The Multi-player is far superior to Halo 3's, The Single-Player adds a lot of fun for a short time, with a decent storyline. This is the game I've been waiting for for a long time. A modern day FPS that isn't a squad based game like Rainbow Six.
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade: 1st Expansion to the greatest MMORPG: This added 2 new Races, raised level cap to 70, Increased the game's Land Mass by 25% and so on.
Mass Effect: Bio-ware's latest Triumph. An amazing game in every aspect. Great combat, voice acting, game play and so on.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune: The game possesses a terrific storyline and the graphics are the best the PS3 has to offer. The enemy AI is a little cheap at times but the game is a must buy for any PS3 owners
Halo 3: I've been following Halo since the days of Marathon back on the Mac. The reason I got the first Xbox was mainly for the first game. This one was no different then the rest, Great Storyline, graphics etc. Multiplayer could've been a lot better I thought but the game is still one of the best.
Worst Game: I never tend to buy play games =/
Biggest Letdown: Assassin's Creed: This game could've been so much more. But it just repeats itself over and over. "Ah Altier you need more intel before I let you kill your target" "Good you have what I need go kill your target" I then get swarmed by 50+ guards I can kill all of them one at a time by pressing the X button at the right time to counter. Then repeat the process all over.
-
1. Halo 3
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
4. Mass Effect
5. Metroid Prime 3
This is from what I have played, which isn't every good game released in '07.
Removed LoZ: Twilight Princess because it is an '06 game. Silly me! :fogetlaugh:
-
Assasins Creed -
Sorry, but it just caught me right between the eyes. The game is massive and pretty.
Call of Duty 4 -
Awesome game, short though. Fun online makes up for what its lacking in single player~
Warhawk -
I never thought I could see my self playing a Playstation network game more than just a bit. My god, I love this game.
Shivering Isles -
Se-se-sexy expansion pack to one se-se-sexy g-game.
Portal -
Funny as fuck and fun to play. Trippy.
Biggest letdown -
Ok, I'm still pissed off that Call of Duty 4's storymode is so goddamn short.
-
1. The Orange Box
2. Elite Beat Agents (a 2007 release in Europe)
3. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
4. Super Mario Galaxy
5. Dwarf Fortress (technically a 2006 game I know...)
-
hey, i'm the only one who voted for virtua fighter 5 and it's probably the best fighting game ever made.
yeah and i'm the only one to vote for hannah montana and it's pretty much the best GAME ever made.
-
1. Mass Effect (360)
2. Bioshock (360/PC)
3. Resident Evil 4 (Wii)
4. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
5. Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PS3)
Honorable mention for portables go to Dragon Quest Monsters (DS) and Jeanne d'Arc (PSP).
-
1)BioShock
2)Orange Box(Portal)
3)Super Mario Galaxy
4)Mass Effect
5)Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Worst Game: Two Worlds but I feel kinda bad for the poor little thing. If it wasn't for the fact that a bunch of people said this game would be the second coming of the Christ(the first being Oblivion) the game wouldn't have been shoot down in flames by critics and gamers alike. It would have been put in the B class games that you get for your PC when you have money burning your pockets. Sadly the hype that was around that game, and the fact it did not live up to them, makes it worse game of 2007.
Of course, saying this was the worst of 2007 is a bit hypocritical. I'm sure a bunch of movie based games are waaaaaaaaayyyyyy worse then this but...... who the hell plays this thing except Little Timmy when his soccer mom buy him one.
Biggest letdown: Metroid Prime 3 : A great game but I felt it dropped a lot of stuff that made 1 and 2 so great for the sake of "epicness" and by doing this I kinda felt that they forgot what Metroid was about. The atmosphere is there but not as much as the two previous games in the series. The whole traveling between planets don't really add much to gameplay as it's just an elaborate loading screen. The game is great, don't get me wrong. But some of the charm was lost.
-
1. Orange Box (Portal + TF2 = Victory)
2. Bioshock (Wasn't as REVOLUTIONARY as they hailed it, but still a solid game)
3. CoD4 (Short campaign, online seems like a watered-down Battlefield 2 IMO.)
4. Rock Band (Great party game. Too bad it's not for the Wii)
5. RE: Umbrella Chronicles (Fun co-op.)
Worst Game - Assassin's Creed (I expected it to be Hitman in an open environment. Not even close. You don't even have to scout your target or make the killing look like an accident.)
-
Aren't all of those 2006 games (well aside from the DBZ game I have no idea about it).
:shh:
Damnit. Wii Play isn't though. Yeah, every one of those except Wii Play.
-
yeah and I'm the only one to vote for Hannah Montana and it's pretty much the best GAME ever made.
how can that game be any good? Most game based on show suck so bad god and gamers alike will cry at the same time just to wonder why they push out the same crap over and over just to Bank on little kids that ask there dad to buy this shit.
-
:shh:
Damnit. Wii Play isn't though. Yeah, every one of those except Wii Play.
I'm pretty sure Wii Play is as well. :p
Anyway, I just installed CoD4 today and I'm not far in it yet so I won't nominate it but I will beat it before the poll.
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Crysis
3. Bioshock
4. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
5. HL2 Orange Box (haven't played Portal yet though :D)
World in Conflict and Jeanne d'Arc (if it came out this year) are great too.
-
IN NO ORDER:
Halo 3
Orange Box
Bioshock
Call of Duty 4
Also like what about games that are really 2006 releases but saw a re-release on a new system (i.e. oblivion was released on the PS3 this year but originally came out in 06)
-
1. Mass Effect
2. The Orange Box
3. Virtua Fighter 5
4. Rock Band
5. Super Mario Galaxy
-
Didn't play many new games this past year:
Command&Conquer 3
Super Mario Galaxy
CSI: Hard Evidence
The Simpsons Game
..I do want to play a lot of them, like Blue Dragon, Mass Effect and Unreal Tournament 3.
Biggest let down? Halo 3, I suppose. (Remember, I haven't played many new games from 2007). I was expecting it to be good, given the tsunami of hype, but it really wasn't anything special. Or particularily good.
-
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Call of Duty 4
3. PES2008 (ha!)
4. Zelda: PH
5. Mario Party DS
-
I'm pretty sure Wii Play is as well. :p
No, I remember that one. I had it reserved specifically to get the included remote and when I went in to get it on the supposed release day, they told me it had been pushed back to March.
-
was released 8th dec 2006 over here :D
-
Yeah, I also got it in December 2006, I'm like 99% sure.
-
I know for a fact that it was released after February 4th, 2007 in the U.S.
EDIT: I just checked, and it released February 12th, 2007 in the U.S.
-
1. Portal
2. Crysis
3. Unreal Tournament 3
4. Quake Wars
5. Bioshock
-
Bioshock
Uncharted
God of War II
Crysis
Rock Band
-
Best Games:
Super Mario Galaxy
Rock Band
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (First time I played RE4, so while it was old to most people, it was new and fantastic to me)
Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Runner Up:
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Worst Game:
I dunno...any Dragon Ball Z game?
Runner Up:
Guitar Hero 3 (They managed to suck every last bit of fun out of this franchise)
Biggest Let Down:
Halo 3 (With all the hype I was just expecting so much from this one, and it turned out to be just a little prettier than Halo 2 :tsk:)
Runner Up:
God of War 2 (I think I'm the only person that thinks the first one is 100% better than this one...I beat the game in 9 hours and will probably never play it again)
-
1. Portal
2. Crysis
3. Unreal Tournament 3
4. Quake Wars
5. Bioshock
Looks like someone likes his FPSes!
-
1. Mass Effect
2. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
3. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
4. Super Mario Galaxy
5. BioShock
Worst Game- Lair
Biggest Letdown- Assassin's Creed
-
Wii Play was released like the same day the console was. ~_~
-
in every region except US, man
-
1.Bioshock (easily get's it)
2.Oblivion
3.Guitar Hero 3
4.Cod4
5.Super Mario Galaxy, from what I've played of it at a friends house it deserves to be here
worst game was Two Worlds "Took oblivion up the shivering isles"
most dissapointing would be halo 3. The story still isn't all that good/doesn't make sense and multiplayer was beaten by CoD4
-
1. Team Fortress 2
2. Portal
3. Super Mario Galaxy
4. Metroid Prime 3
5. man I don't know
Worst game: idk, I generally don't play horrible games.
Biggest letdown: For me, Unreal Tournament 3. This coming from a big UT fan. It's not very good. :(
-
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
3. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3
4. Rogue Galaxy
5. The Orange Box
Worst Game: Ninjabread Man, Fuzion Frenzy 2
Biggest Let Down of the Year: Virtua Fighter 5 for the PS3. Don't get me wrong, the game is amazing and I love it, but knowing that Sega won't even support or update the PS3 version, not even through DLC, is a hurtful blow.
-
1.Super Mario Galaxy
2.Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
3.Super Paper Mario
4.God Of War II
5.Wario Ware:Smooth Moves
-
1.Bioshock (easily get's it)
2.Oblivion
3.Guitar Hero 3
4.Cod4
5.Super Mario Galaxy, from what I've played of it at a friends house it deserves to be here
worst game was Twighlight Princess, it was just waaaaay to fucking easy. ) : It just didn't fell like a Zelda or maybe i was just expecting it to beat OOT? which is still the best game ever
most dissapointing would be halo 3. The story still isn't all that good/doesn't make sense and multiplayer was beaten by CoD4
Twilight Princess was released in 2006 too. :fogetshh:
-
Worst Game:
I dunno...any Dragon Ball Z game?
:ssj: The Wii versions are not bad at all, the motion controls make it really fun and interesting.
And yeah, Wii Play was one of the very few games that was released in America after everywhere else. I got SM Galaxy and DBZ BT3 for Christmas, but I haven't had time to play them yet. I'll give DBZ BT 3 spot #1 just because.
-
Twilight Princess was released in 2006 too. :fogetshh:
Drat.
so it was ) : thanks
