"Based on the Chinese legend of the monkey king, revolves around an American teenager who discovers the king's legendary stick weapon in a pawn shop. He is transported back in time to ancient China, where he joins a crew of warriors fighting to free the imprisoned king."
I thought the first movie with both Jet Li AND Jackie Chan in it would be a bit more.... EPIC.
Also: The Forbidden Kingdom vs Dragonball. FIGHT!

Since this was originally announced I've absolutely hated the idea. The news first came around that J&J would team up for the first time, man, it sounds incredible. The next day or something around those lines, we discover it's for the Forbidden Kingdom, and eventually the fact came out that the director of Stuart Little 2 is holding the reigns on this one.
So after that I had pretty much lost all love and hope for the film, but then the trailer comes out and it looks half-decent? (Cinematography wise at least)
Anyway, I'm still not sure about the plot and the overall film, but there is at least a chance this could be the next ..Karate Kid or something around those lines. It seems a kid orientated film, so that would probably be the best fit.
But man, I wish J&J would have actually teamed up for something ..better?

Isn't this the story to one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films?
Yeah I fucking swear it is.
I guess Jet Li, Jackie Chan and some kid are better than some tubular turtles, we'll see
-
Well, since it's based on Journey to the West, it wouldn't be suprising. It's pretty famous.

Well, the turtles DID get teleported to Ancient China with some weird lamp April bought in a pawn shop in TMNT3.
-
that was japan, not china.
-
...
Hey, yeah. My bad.
-
How many times are they going to redo the Monkey King/ Journey to the West/ Saiyuki legend?

...as many times as Troy, 300 and the rise of Julius Caesar Salad, I suppose.

It would be nice if we could just get a decent adaption of the source material, rather than retarded animes, a fun/obscure tactical RPG, and ridiculous TIME TRAVEL movies.

Jesus man, the fact that they have a white guy as SAVIOR OF THE UNIVERSE in a ASIAN setting.... It's just not right.
Kinda like in the Replacement Killers when the studio said the bad guys couldn't all be white...

Quoted for fucking truth.
Not only that but the token white guy learns mystical martial arts in two weeks in contrast with soldiers who spent their lifetime learning to fight (I'm looking at you Last Samurai).
Yeah I'm already sick of this movie.
-
You're right, racial issues and quick training are totally the least believable things about this story.
-
Also I think it looks like they just took bits and pieces of other movies
The young white kid learning how to be a great warrior in a matter of weeks/days/hours while meanwhile all the generic soldiers who trained all their lives drop like flies is stolen from Japanese RPGs though :P
-
NOW THAT Looks pretty bad IMO.
I will watch it just to see the great Jet Li but the main character annoys me already.
-
reminds me of the last samurai, lol tom cruise.
-
He should've found a gremlin in the pawn shop imo
Edit: How have they NOT remade Gremlins yet
-
The only movie where jet li and jackie chan star together... why does it have to be this shitty?
-
I thought Jet Li stopped doing Martial Arts in films? oh well, I wish Jackie and Jet Li woud do something more deserving then this together.. oh well.

I am a giant Jackie Chan fan. Jet Li is pretty cool, as well.
I can't believe this is going to be the first movie they're together in. It looks like SHITTTT
