Namco announced that the game will be ported to the Sony PlayStation Portable for a Japanese release, and is speculated, based on recent Namco's internationalization of other Tales games, that it will eventually come to North America and Europe.(Tales Of Rebirth looks f*cken awesome, I so hope it gets a translation![/Iā)
Release Date: March 19th 2008 Jap, US/EU Unknown.

It was released in Japan on February 15, 2007. The PSP version is similar to the original PlayStation 2 incarnation, with the remake adding additional cameos and playable content; Rutee Katrea, Philia Philis, Woodrow Kelvin, Leon Magnus, and Lilith Aileron from the Tales of Destiny remake are all present as cameo bosses. The PSP re-release sold 73,000 copies in its first week, ranking second in weekly video games sales, however, subsequent sales fell off sharply, with the title dropping to the #25 position in its second week.(Which means since we haven't seen anything so far, I doubt it will come over here)

How many ports have they made of the same bloody thing now?
-
They skimmed over us in the Tales of Destiny remake, so unless we get that as well, I won't be bothered.

What do you mean? Tales of Rebirth and Tales of Destiny 2 were PS2 exclusives. The english of Destiny 2 was actually Tales of Eternia which got a port that saw European release only.

After the sales of Tales of Destiny II (Tales of Eternia) some 10 years ago Namco swore that they would never release another 2D Tales of game in America again. It's pretty fucking retarded considering their English fanbase has probably tripled since then. I guess you could say they broke their promise with Tales of Destiny on the GBA which sold a million or so copies so I wouldn't be surprised if they brought over ToR and ToD2. Since the PS2 is pretty much dead (or at least overshadowed in the gaming industry) I doubt they'll waste their time releasing ToD-remake in English.

Try Final Fantasy I.
-

It was on the ps1 also.
ALSO why does ToD2 look so fucked up? Where is Reid? Meredy? WHO ARE THOSE PEOPLE
-
Also, am I the only one noticing the buxom harpies?
-
namco are pretty fucking stupid when it comes to releases
katamari 1 was never released here (europe), katamari 2 was released after like an extra 6 months, im not sure how long it took for katamari psp to get released here and beautiful katamari still isnt out here (although wikipedia says FEB 08 amazon uk doesnt have any date set)
so yeah f*ck namco
-

I really confused on this one, but it seems that Tales of Eternia/Tales of Destiny 2 in English, is different to the Jap game with the same name, I don't know maybe they just fucked it the names somehow? Just like how Final Fantasy III is Final Fantasy VI over here?
I don't think Tales of Destiny 2 will come over(As it was released in Feb last year and not even a rumor or nothing for it), which I don't mind really, but Tales Of Rebirth looks to good to forget about now, My GOD I hope the speculation and shit for Rebirth ends up true!
-
That's why a lot of fans use the Japanese name to refer to Tales of Eternia even when they're not purists who insist on things keeping their Japanese names. Referring to it as "Tales of Destiny 2" is just confusing.
Wikipedia suggests the reason Tales of Eternia got renamed here is that Mattel had the trademark on the name Eternia from He-Man, rather than to try to play up the relationship between ToE and ToD. Which makes sense, because I don't think ToD was a break out hit or anything.
-

They remade Tales of Phantasia for the GBA not Destiny :gwa:ā. And apparently they made some Tales of the World games for it also.
-
God, I hate the Tales Of games so much that I don't even know where to start. Radiant Mythology for PSP was really promising and I actually loved it for an hour or two until I realized how uncompromisingly assinine the fetch quests were (even worse than Valhalla Knights!). I wish I liked Tales Of games because they really do target my inner japfag, but the games are sooo bad.
However! Tales of Rebirth's art looks pretty awesome and I would definitely buy it if it came over here. I've noticed that at least one Tales Of port/remake skipped the US but *was* published in Europe (I imported it for $70 and man that was a bad idea), so there's definitely a lot of hope for an English release.
-
WOOOHOOO!!!!
man! I cant wait!
-
Yeah, you're a lil' late behind there, I bought ToD2 a month ago. (Kicks ass, regardless whether I can read Jap or not.) And as for ToR, I'll be gettin' it too.
Just to let you all know, DON'T EXPECT THIS TO COME TO U.S. THE CHANCES OF IT ARE EXTREMELY SLIM, SO JUST IMPORT IT AND PLAY IT, IF YOU DON'T WANNA IMPORT THEN GIVE IT UP. Thank you and have a good day.
@#1 Dad(i think) - ToE was ToD2, due to copyright stuff from Eternia, (He-Man.) ToE had to be named ToD2, the actual ToD2 is starred Stahn's son, Kyle. So yeah.
-
Why do you say that? Every other tales of game has come here.
-

Actually, no...
Because if that were true, we should've got ToD2(PS2, Tales of Rebirth, and Tales of Destiny(PS2) here, but they don't seem to like 2D... the US side i'd assume. :fogetshrug:

These are for the PSP, though. Sony is desperate for games that sell well and Tales of has a pretty dedicated fanbase. I can't think of a single reason these wouldn't come here.

Actually these games were released before, they were for the PS2. (Except ToD for the PS2, that was released just near the end of 2006.) But ToD2, and ToR were for PS2, and now they're releasin' em' for the PSP. Down with DS! Do a lil' bit of research on wiki or somethin' and you'll know. Lots of people were disapointed when ToR didn't come out, it was originally supposed to come state side in 2002(i think) but due to the Anti-2D policy the game was cancelled, what a shame because Tales of Rebirth looked pretty tight, so youre best bet would be to import it.
But as you said, the fan base has been increasing, so the chances of it being released stateside is possible, but I highly doubt it, I had my hopes for ToD for the PS2, but it didn't come to happen, so I just gave up.

All of that ps2 stuff is irrelevant, though. While people weren't looking for that style on the ps2, they almost definitely are on PSP, considering that's what the system is for.
And, much like every other game released on the PSP, these'll probably be ported to the ps2 (in english) if they are successful.
-
Well then, all the fanbase can do is pray, and hope that some form of a miracle will happen and these games will be released.
-
but due to the Anti-2D policy the game was cancelled
This is something that japfags have made up and as a policy it does not actually exist. If it did, Nippon Ichi and Vanillaware would have had a much harder time publishing their products! Furthermore, you could always take a look at the myriad of no-name NIS games on PSP (especially the awful Idea Factory games).
While you might think Tales Of has a dedicated fanbase, a dedicated fanbase of a few tens of thousands people that browse RPGamer are not really worth trying to market a product towards. You could always try and make the assumption that a product is being marketed towards you because your taste represents the minority, rather than assuming that there is some conspiracy out to keep your favorite videogames from you.
-
sweet more bad, homogeneous rpgs
just what the psp needs
-
Man... Tales of Eternia is all the Tales anyone needs. Fuck the rest.
-
So much tales hate. Well, I don't have a PSP so I obviously won't be getting these. I do have these, and the Destiny Remake for PS2 though, and they're insanely fun. I still think Tales of Rebirth is the best 'Tales of' Game ever made. Screw Abyss and Symphonia. Too bad it hasn't come here...yet.
-
The hate is well founded. Every Tales game is exactly the same. The only thing that ever changes are some static naming conventions... and that's it. It's the reason how they are able to pump out the games they do. Their entire creative process consists of is changing the elemental's names and collection themes (harness the 8 elementals, find the 8 swordians, defeat the 8 craymels, visit the 8 temples, and so on) and little else. From there... they the rehash light-fantasy-anime settings by merely changing the names of STARTING TOWN, FORREST TOWN, DESSERT TOWN, GHETTO TOWN, UPPER CLASS TOWN, SNOW TOWN, and DOCK TOWN. After that... throw some characters together with assorted colours, hair cuts, and cookie cutter personalities and voila... you have all you need to create a new Tales game. The fight system... the items... the enemies... SKILLSETS... the story... everything about the series is a rehash of a rehash. It's like all of the games are running off of the same GENERIC JFANTASY mad libs sheet. They invent some fantastic crisis that throws the characters across the map to save the world... and that's it. It's disgusting.
Tales of Eternia did it best though.... but they fucked it up by making that embarrassing anime series and the soul crushing MMORPG sequel.
-
It's also disgustingly amusing time and time again. Your points are totally true. That doesn't stop the series from being fun to me though.
-
Tales of Destiny and the Abyss are the best IMO. I kinda stepped away from it after that awful Tales of Symphonia....and from what ive heard Tempest is shit, too. Idk for sure.

Tempest was the worst game in the series, hands down.
@Mala - Some points you say are true, like Nippon Ichi releasing the 2D games, but I also think that its the Sony Industry that doesn't like 2D games... and while RPGamer isn't too big with the Tales games, the main offical Tales forum site or whatever has dozens of fans and they are waiting for games like them to arrive. But everyone has their own opinion about the Tales games, like much my opinion about FFXII being one of the worst FF games in history with FFXI follwing it, you have yours with the Tales series. But I still think that they chances of ToR and ToD2 being released stateside is very slim, if it doesn't come out and you really want to play it just import it and there you go, there is plenty of translations on Gamefaqs.

I agree, though I would have to place Tales Of Symphonia above Desitny for me. So, as of now, my two favorite "Tales Of" games are Abyss and Symphonia. They're extremely fun and very enjoyable to play through. It's a good series, IMO, and I wish they would release Tales Of Destiny Remake over here as it looks damn good.

I believe the anti-2d policy is in effect for Namco, not necessarily Sony. After Tales of Destiny and Tales of Eternia's psone failure in America Namco pretty much said "We are never releasing a 2D Tales game on a next/current gen system again!"
And yeah the Tales of games are pretty much generic rehashes of each other. I think the newest release is called Tales of Sleep/Innocence or something horribly stupid like that.

HAHAHAHA! Wow, lol chainer, awesome man.
However, Tales of the Abyss is NOTHING like that. You should play it sometime.

I bet you $100 that if Chainer plays the game he will decide that you are lying. No kidding.

Well, once he see's Jade Curtis in action, he'll come back for doubles.
also,
STARTING TOWN, FORREST TOWN, DESSERT TOWN, GHETTO TOWN, UPPER CLASS TOWN, SNOW TOWN, and DOCK TOWN.
imo, every game ever made in history has that setup, so I dont see what the complaining is about :)

Hmm that sounds like ALOT OF FINAL FANTASIES.
I agree, it does sound like every other game. Its how its set up which makes it fun. Locations have nothing to do with it sometimes.
As far as Tales of The Abyss, it would be much better if it did not have that obnoxious voice cast, (ESPECIALLY Johnny Yong Bosch..) but overall its a damn good game. In fact, wasnt it close to getting all perfects from Famitsu? (9/9/9/9)

Ha ha, yeah, Jade is probably the best character in there for me. Great character, and I like his personality. The voice actor is good as well.
-
I think I would only play Tales of the Abyss for the awesome battle theme song.
It looks okay I guess....I might try it out one day.
Tales of Eternia and Tales of Phantasia are the only ones I've played. Oh wait, and Radiant Mythology, but I stopped playing it half way through.

Heh, if that doesn't say it all...but I still find the series entertaining despite being through some of that time and again.
Bring on Innocence and Knight of Ratatosk I say. :fogetbackflip:

RM was garbage, and I can understand why you stopped. As for TotA, the battle music is actually why I decided to try it. Since Legendia was god-awful, I didnt think any of the PS2 counterparts were any good...
-
I just want a cell-shaded tales of symphonia 2. Not this Abyss graphics shit they seem to be giving us.
-
Ive never played Tales Of Symphonia, what's it like? And hell no to those cell shaded graphics, with there new Tales Of Vesperia(Although seems to have the World map of my dreams) looks to.. cartoonish to be taken seriously, and the characters look like 15 year olds a bit to much(Although they probably are), I would probably still play it though.
-
What is that supposed to mean? Are you saying that it isn't the same as the rest... and I'd be too stubborn to admit it?
No, I am saying that you are right. Tales of the Abyss is held to very high standards as a Tales Of game, and fans of the series always tell detractors it's different I SWEAR, but it's still a Tales Of game. So, at the end of the day you are still mashing the x button to skip through vapid dialogue and completely dimensionless real-time combat. I'm pretty sure that Double Dragon had tighter brawling mechanics. You know that there's a problem with a game when the most memorable part about it is boy Reid you sure can eat like a horse geeze!!.
-
but it's still a Tales Of game so at the end of the day you are still mashing the x button to skip through vapid dialogue and completely dimensionless real-time combat
Then wouldn't that be the same in other games like FFXII? Where its real combat or whatever, and having to skip through a lot of dialouge? :P And skipping though most dialouge, isn't it like that in every RPG? :P
-

It doesn't seem all that bad, although they've moved from the bright, colorful look of Symphonia to something a bit more dull and pastel like, the new style seems to convey the characters (at least in correlation to their ages anyway) better than Symphonia did. Also, based on the newest trailer the choreography during cutscenes is a lot smoother and more natural looking, especially with Lloyd and the new guy squaring off.
