Title: Superhero Movie
Post by: Marcus on February 01, 2008, 12:23:17 am
Hey guys?  Did you like the cinematic genius of Meet the Spartans?  How about the post modern workings of Epic Movie?  Were you blown out of your seat by the surreal and Daliesque Date Movie?

If so, then you'll love...

High school loser Rick Riker is bit by a mutated dragonfly that allows him to develop abilities like super strength and armored skin. He decides to become a crime fighter, calling himself "The Dragonfly". However, he is opposed by the villainous Lou Landers, who had been transformed in an accident during an experiment to become "The Hourglass", with powers to steal people's life forces.

Staring Drake Bell, Leslie Nielson, and a bunch of a fags you never heard of before.

Superheroes GET EPIC this March!

p.s. this movie began production in September.  These guys just SHIT films out and people eat them up.

Proof that even guys like Psyburn can make their wish come true. You don't need a decent script. You just need to say "Listen, I'm gonna make a parody of..." to those greedy hollywood gents.

They've got a budget of like... 50 dollars.  They make all their money back from the advertising alone.

After doing a bit of sleuthing, it appears this movie is a departure from HOW MANY JOKES CAN WE FIT INTO A TRAILER and is actually a "parody" movie that has a story and everything.  I'm guessing it'll turn out like Mystery Men; good idea, poor writers.

I read through that and thought MAN MARCUS doing a great job making fun of those movies, this could almost be a real one in the series...

I just don't know how they can fucking get away with it.

Hey, the writers in Mystery Men weren't be all bad--they came up with the name "Casanova Frankenstein." I mean that's hands down one of the best names I've ever heard.

And for some reason Mystery Men had a ridiculously high budget - like the producers just threw money at it for no particular reason

Silent protest.

EDIT - It is there, actually.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0426592/

Apparently it was named Superhero! at first, but then they added the MOVIE at the end of it. I think it's from the same dudes who made Airplane!, but I dunno if they've made anything good in a while.

Man ok, I saw the trailer on youtube. It looks on par with the Scary Movie franchise. Dumb slapstick for an hour and a half - HOWEVER!!!!

It's NOT by Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg and it shows. It seems like it'll actually STICK TO SUPER HEROES, unlike the aforementioned directors do. I didn't see a single Paris Hilton/Britney Spears/Reality TV joke in there, and the jokes seemed centered around shit you see in the Spider Man movies. I'm not looking forward this; chances are I won't see it till it hits the Movie Network on TV, but it definitely doesn't like the abomination of comedy film making (and comedy/film making in general) that Date Movie, Epic Movie, and Meet the Spartans were. I mean, even Leslie Nielson didn't appear in those.

In my defense i did say "sounds like a laugh" and any way weather i wrote it or not i meant it in  the 'so stupid it i might be funny' kind of way.
I apolagise if my opinions offend you.

actually, after watching the trailer, i'm inclined to agree with what most people seem to be saying.  it really doesn't look nearly as awful as date movie, epic movie, and meet the spartans were.  it doesn't really look AWFUL at all, honestly; more like just not especially good.

yeah i watched the trailer with the sound off 'cause it's one in the morning and my room mate's asleep but it still looked like it could maybe be funny in a guilty pleasure sort of way

Like Rowain said, it looks to be pretty pathetic still.

I was correcting my earlier statement! I assumed (assume makes and ass out of u and me hehehehe) that this movie was by the same guys who did Date Movie, Epic Movie, and Meet the Spartans, largely from the title which fits into their _________ MOVIE series. That's why I jumped all over swordfish, because no one with ANY sense of humour or intelligence would find Date or Epic Movie funny. They are the worst sort of garbage, not even funny on a "so bad it's good way". HOWEVER, after seeing the trailer and doing further research (as in checking imdb), I see they are not the least bit involved. I doubt it'll be GOOD per se, but it might be worth a larf or too to download or watch for free on TV whenever it becomes available.

So I say SORRY for my earlier comment to swordfish.

And what a world! I'm actually praising a movie for not be complete and utter filth, for not being as bad as a movie can possibly be!

Perhaps i should have mentiond i have only seen there scary movie series. I haven't actualy seen any of there others, and yeah your right it is mostly sensless drivel. The fact that they can even string that many differant parody ripoffs into one single story is kind of commendable, but it still sucks.

WHAT?!  That just makes me mad.  I swear that we (read: me and my friends)  had the idea first!  If you didn't look at the Spider-Man Spoof topic somewhere on here, then just disregard that.  And by disregard that, I mean go look at it   :fogetbackflip:

Ugh...This movie doesn't look terrible, but...
Ours is going to be funnier.

Leslie Nielson

All I needed to hear.

I hated the first two Scary Movies, but the second two seemed to start "understanding" the parody industry. Then again, it could have just been Charlie Sheen's awesomeness.

The second Scary Movie was abysmal, but the third did have a bit of a charm.  It didn't make me want to run out and see the fourth though.  The only thing I remember from the third movie was when the officer's hat kept getting bigger, and I couldn't stop laughing.

Now that I know the movie isn't being made by the people who spewed Date/Epic Movie, I'm actually a little willing to admit that the preview they've been showing on TV doesn't look that bad. Yes, it looks cheesy as hell, but I think it'll deliver a few cheap laughs such as the nail catching part.

holy shit me too

And I still need to look at the trailer but it would be nice if this turned out to be some kind of rebuttal against the ____ Movie guys and be like ok this is how you do parody bitches

Wait, I just checked imdb - is Leslie Nielsen the only thing connecting this movie to Airplane! etc. or are other people involved?

Also Leslie Nielsen's been in some bad movies too - I liked Spy Hard and stuff but then again I was like 9 and thought spy movies were jawesome back then - but 2001 A Space Travesty really was a travesty

I saw some ad for the movie

It seems like, I dunno kind of cute in a way. It's still corny as hell but comedy movies are just as much about telling a joke well imo. Of course the real movie could be terrible but at least I know there's like 4 funny parts

This does actually look funnier than Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans. It really isn't that funny though...

By the way when I was 11 and had finished watching X-Men 2, I created my own mutant called Dragonfly. He looked like a normal human but had a strange scar which would then turn into a tail and change his skin into some green scaly kind of thing. Yeah...

I admit that I laughed at the commercials where Leslie Nielson accidentally shoots a nail gun at the main character's crotch, who dodges it, prompting this exchange:
LN: "How did you do that?"
MC: "It's easier than it looks."
LN: *Shoots MC's friend in the crotch with the nailgun* "No."

This is, uh... This is a pretty funny movie, guys! I saw it yesterday, and I can honestly say it was pretty much consistently funny. The only part that I was not really laughing at was the first 'appearance' of Stephen Hawking, but his other 'appearances' were pretty funny and overall it had plenty of good moments. Several scenes were pretty funny, like Barry Bonds. It's not the funniest movie ever, but I thought it was miles better than Date/Epic Movie.

EDIT: Yeah so not saying it was amazing or anything, but it was not the crap movie everybody assumes. The worst part is the 'Movie' at the end of the title, so people associate it with those terrible parodies like Date and Epic Movie. Also they had a really good funny Tom Cruise impersonation. I dunno, if you want a laugh you should definitely see this, imo.

This is the worst "Movie" movie they had ever made. However it is still pretty funny, but thats still not saying much. I enjoyed it when the granny fell in the shredder and when Tom Cruise tried to fly becuase those were acually memorable.
