note (Click to reveal)Since like half of the discussion in the Frank Miller topic was about this, I split the topic into one about the classification of Batman, which seems to be a popular topic, and the other one (http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=3944) to continue talking about Frank Miller.
Batman isn't a superhero... he's a crime fighter.
-
Batman isn't a superhero because he doesn't have any super powers. He's just a hero/crime fighter.
Kind of like Dick Grayson. (age 12)
-
Technically anti-hero but yeah same thing, he's no Super hero, just a hero.
EDIT: 2000th post yay :D
-
Nitpicking over whether or not someone's a superhero is silly. Either way, he runs around in his underwear fighting supervillains. And "regular" (I guess) villains such as Anarky (age 12).

Batman isn't an anti-hero in any sense of the word.
-
isn't an anti-hero a hero who uses any means (within reason) to catch the bad guy? well batman is wiling to kill just to stop a bad guy so in my opnion that makes him an anti-hero.

Batman doesn't kill. Also, an anti-hero (http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/Anti-Hero) is "a protagonist or notable figure who is conspicuously lacking in heroic qualities." I wouldn't call Batman an anti-hero.

Batman AFAIK has only killed in alternate realities where he is evil.
-
I don't follow DC enough to know what constitutes an "alternate reality" but almost every Batman side-story/spinoff whatever has him acting like a total asshat (allstar batman included). I don't know what it is with writers and Batman but it's nearly impossible to resist the urge to make the guy a huge faggot morally and socially. Hell, even Tim Burton had his batmobile and stuff decked out with guns and bombs.
But the important this is HIS PARENTS ARE DEADDDDDDDDDD!!

All-Star Batman pours bleach over a group of thugs and lights them on fire. I... I feel that's a pretty anti-heroic quality.

Batman has never intentionally killed, ever. His unwillingness to kill is what defines who he is in the first place!

Unless if it was an alternate reality where he's evil, this is true.

Actually even though it's not exactly cannon... anymore... He used to in the original. He would throw people of buildings or intentionally let them die/refuse to help them.
But yah talking about the Canon, Batman hasn't intentionally killed anybody.
-
Yeah, Batman's no-killing thing is the whole crux of the Joker dilemma, with people claiming that given how many people the Joker has killed and that no prison (or asylum, least of all Arkham) seems capable of holding him, Batman is indirectly responsible for hundreds, thousands of deaths because he won't just end it. And Kaworu, didn't the Crisis on Infinite Earths retcon those early deaths at his hands? It retconned just about a lot of other unwanted things....like Superman's more insane powers.
But then Batman's already out of his head. If he let himself start killing baddies, there's like zero doubt he'd turn into a huge, dark antihero in no time. He'd make Rorschach look stable! That's also the reason that he keeps a Robin around--he's got to have some sort of attachment to the realms of sanity and normalcy, and Robin's it. It's also why fans still tolerate a teen sidekick in Batman when every other hero has lost theirs to age or death or phlebotinum or whatever.
If anything, the most interesting thing about Batman is how hard he fights to not be an antihero.
-
Batman's early killingspree days were retconned way before crisis on infinate earths. Fuck I think they were gone away with even before Crisis on multiple earths!
-
I'd just like to add that Robin is the best comic hero ever.
-
Dude... Azrael!
-
Stop livin' in the 90s, sheesh.
-
your avatar looks very 90s actually
-
Azrael was sweet... Bane broke batman's back, he took over. Did some damage. PRETTY HOT. Batman is just fun cause he's got the ability to defeat everyone. Superheroes and villains. He's badass, the SUPERIOR (not mutated or mythological) HUMAN.

Speaking of Batman...

Looks like an Animatrix-like project.
-
^ That is pretty cool! But I get the feeling that they're making this anime just because it's anime. Seeing Bruce Wayne with a generic anime face sure gave me creeps. Still interested, can't believe they're not having Joker though!
-
its supposed to lead up to the new movie, thats why joker isn't in it.
-
Btw, anybody else reading Gotham Underground? It's great seeing Bane running the underworld again.
-

Oh, I didn't even realize this. Still anime-Joker would have been cool with some of those styles used..
Why are some westerners talking about this anime btw? They talk like they're the ones actually making this, sure maybe they do the script + other crap, but this just supports that it's just for the sake of anime.
-
Because the the anime artist are probly just hired for it and don't have the same level insperation or motivation the creators have for the project. So who do you think would be better suited for talking about this?
and the concept of "just for the sake anime" I don't even understand this...is that suppose to be a reason NOT to do it? I don't get your point when you say that.
I guess they made batman movies just for the sake of movies .-.
-
orite, nobody is cool enough to have read Gotham underground.
-
I read it Kaworu and now batmans gonna get killed BUT I HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO SAY.

Oh shit alternate universe Batman is going to get shot again and then Joker is going to get killed 1000000000000 more times.
-
DC're doing promo images in their comics RIP BATMAN and shit so Iunno.
Also holy shit cover for Gotham Underground 7 looks great. Lockup (cartoon original guy who has had a few apperances in the comic) is on it and a certain avenging angel is also there . I think killing Azrael(and effectively glossing over it) was one of DC's biggest goofs, so I seriously hope they're bringing him back... I mean we never did see a body!
-
A comic book death where we don't see the body only to find out he never died? Unique.
