So, there are rumors going around of a Bioshock Movie.
http://movies.ign.com/articles/844/844915p1.html
Hidden content (Click to reveal)Ever since it debuted last August, the hit 2K Games first-person shooter BioShock has been cited by gamers and industry pundits alike as source material that's ripe for a Hollywood adaptation. Now a new report suggests that such a film may be indeed on the horizon.
According to Joystiq.com, "A reliable source within a major film production company has told Joystiq that the two have been getting along famously, with a movie adaptation of 2K's successful franchise already being discussed by the Big Daddies internally."
The site adds, "The studio hopes to bring the fallen aquatic utopia of Rapture to celluloid life through extensive use of green screen technology, an approach not dissimilar to Legendary Pictures' interpretation of 300. If the computer generated approach is deemed feasible and fitting, the focus can then shift to capturing BioShock's secondary (and uninhabited) characters.
"BioShock is a unique game that mixes a spine-chilling setting illustrated with art deco art and architecture, sci-fi themes of bio-genetic mutation and self-modification, a deep storyline with open-choice freedom to interact with the world, and first-person action that requires you to think every time you pull the trigger.
After your plane crashes into icy uncharted waters, you discover a rusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath the sea. Constructed as an idealistic society for a hand picked group of scientists, artists and industrialists, the idealism is no more. Now the city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam the corridors as little girls loot the dead, and genetically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn.

I just beat Bioshock the other day, and it was pretty amazing (ending could have used some work though). Don't know about a movie though. I suppose if the right director (Del Toro is my personal pick) and the right actors (Daniel-Day Lewis for Andrew Ryan!!) it could work. And also not butcher the story line. What do you guys think?
EDIT: Well, it looks like it is being made:

Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) is going to direct.

I don't really see the need for this. The game already is quite movie-like and the main attraction would be enviroments anyway. I can always go back to venture rapture myself, can't see a movie giving me anything new.
Besides it's obvious they'd butcher everything likeable in the game.
I hope we get Uwe Boll to direct this, seeing as he has experience in many game-to-movie adaptations.

:fogetgasp: .. :throw:
If you were serious then, wow, most stupidest suggestion for a game movie.. EVER, if not then alright. I think it would make for a good movie, but the game would still be better no matter how good it ends up, plus the game itself isn't even that old, do we really need a movie already?
-
Uwe Boll has actually run out of money to do movies. Far Cry needs to make like a billion dollars for him to turn a profit.
Anyway, I don't particularly think they should make a "Bioshock" movie, but perhaps a "Rapture" movie. Start before the days of Rapture, with Andrew Ryan still figuring out his ideas, and move into the city's demise, much like the prequel is rumored to be about. Don't make Ryan the bad guy, make him the victim.
That would make a pretty damn good movie IMO.

He's funded by the German government so unless they cut him off...
But I agree, a spin-off would be best because everything good about the game revolved around YOU being the main character and experiencing everything outside of your body. Attaching a face to the (ugh) moral dilemmas you face would kind of ruin things.
Besides, Levine's visionary moral masterpiece cannot be experienced by today's modern audience. When faced with the chilling choice of killing little girls... or not killing little girls... fuck, America just isn't ready. It's too deep, man. (btw this last paragraph was a joke in case you didn't get it).
-
I want to see a little sister clubbed to death with a wrench.
-
I think he was joking :).
You are joking right orange00? *Glares menacingly at orange00*
EDIT: also ABM, are you sure the last paragraph is a joke? :naughty:

It's sad world when you have to point this out.
-
Oh god leave it alone... :( If this is happening I think it would be a really cool film to have an extra part in. Like, just being one of the splicers would be really cool but overall I think the game said and did everything on screen that it needed to do. The only thing they could do with a movie that they couldn't do with the game is take away the interactivity.
-
Yeaaa... I fucking hate Uwe Boll with a passion..
Spin-off is a great idea, a prequel, yes. But you'd need some genius writers. Unfortunately not many(read "any") game-movies have those. So this movie is going down with the rubbish, if only it might have interesting setting and backgrounds. Actually I really doubt the chance of a prequel because it's not like the story of Bioshock is that well known and a prequel might not be interesting without the knowledge of future events.

conscidering the WHOLE POINT of bioshock was the gamer-game relationship (WHO WAS PLAYING WHO) and the ending depended on whether you're a child killing bastard or a human being, it won't be Bioshock. They may get the look right, but since Bioshock's point was to affect you, the player (through ridiculousness like helping create Sander Cohen's masterpiece in one of the best levels in vg history), it won't be Bioshock.
Also a prequel? Guys, Bioshock2 is said to be a prequel. Seriously how unoriginal are people getting nowdays that the only thing everyone seems to think of is PREQUEL, you peeps need better ideas.

Every time a game sells really well, there are rumors of a movie. Every fucking time. Yet the movies are usually not made.

I was gonna repeat what other people have said, but then I realised this is quite true.
Still, I wouldn't hate if a movie was made. I think they'd do it to expose the story to a wider audience as opposed to just hitting the gamer market.
If the game writers got on board for the movie I don't think it'd suck (depending on casting).
-
Yeah most likely this won't be made.
Either way, I don't need a movie. I can go back into the world of Rapture by playing Bioshock again. It's a great game and I can be back in the "moments" as fast as my 360 loads it.
-
Wow, this rumor died pretty quick.
Joystiq reports that the designers have been approached by bounds of producers and scribes wanting rights for a movie, and they aren't eager to give them to an industry that frequently (always) screws it up.
-
When is the halo movie coming out?
It's not. despite one of the greatest trailers of all time
I don't see bioshock with precedence over halo, but then again neither did bloodrayne or far cry.
I can assure you if uwe boll is offered the job, this will defitely happen/be excellent.
-
I hate when they turn something with many choices and perspectives into something with few choices and perspectives. That's why games are so great, you choose if you want to go on a rampage and kill everything in sight or follow a certain path to further one aspect of the plot development, not the movie.
-
I think a movie that would go behind the events before Bioshock would be great if done right. I'd really like to see the rise of Fontaine, the guilt of Sullivan after killing Cohen's rival, Cohen's plunge into madness and the betrayal of his students, the choice McDaunagh(sp?) had to make(killing Ryan or Rapture), Ryan becoming more and more what he hates and all the drama behind Rapture's fall.
-
Is it going to have a lot of hype and then not live up to it? OMG ITS JUST LIKE THE GAME!!!!!

I'd love to see Uwe Boll do this.

Or they do, and suck balls like a prostitute with big lips.
