Okay, my younger brother won a semi old computer form his school.
Its loaded with Windows 2000 Professional, the computer once had XP Pro on it (has a sticker with product key on it).
If I "obtain" an XP installer, would the key work? And if it does not work, will the computer roll back to 2000? I don't know much about computers (heh) and just want to make sure before I attempt.

Yes, the key will work with whatever version of Windows it's meant for. It's basically your license code, which legally enables you to run Windows.

If the key doesn't work, it would run, but it would deactivate itself after 30 days. Make sure you get the OEM CD of the manufacturer, and not just a random XP Pro CD so it has more of a chance of working.

yeah I intern at a place (basically a charity) where we get loads of Win 2k machines and that's all I do all day is install Xp Pro. We basically use OEM CD (they have and agreement with Microsoft) but yeah It will work for you if you obtain a OEM Cd some how. :fogetshifty:.
