Title: [Hero] Recording a video of Rm2k3
Post by: Stedar on February 15, 2008, 09:16:23 pm
Hey! Me again. (not sure if this is the right forum...*Sigh* this is rather about the development.)

Anyway, I was wondering what method is most popular for recording video games (especially rm2k3 ones) to be put on youtube or whatever and shown to gamingw.

Programs I've tried

:Fraps
:Game cam lite
:SD Soft
ETC ETC

Out of all, Fraps is the best. HOWEVER the trial only lets you record for 30 seconds, let alone a 2 minute video.
I've tried recording again when it ends, but it just isn't smooth enough that way. ALSO, I can't seem to get it to capture Audio 24/7. I followed the tutorial, and then it worked for about one 10 second vid and then stopped working. When I checked again to find the problem, nothing had been changed. Finally, I don't feel like spending $37 to make a 3 minute movie of my game's intro. AND, I have problems with the audio anyway.

So I ask you, what is the best way to record for a lengthy period of time (about 5 minutes) for free with a trial program that works with rm2k3?

This isn't a Game idea or design question. I'm tossing this over to Software/Hardware.

Ask someone that has a legal version of Fraps to share the install file with you. ; )

Void actually did. However, when clicking on the file icons, they refuse to open...

You need to google a program that'll remove faulty registry keys for you. Uninstall Fraps, then run the program. I think Windows Cleaner should work.

Once the registry files are deleted, install Fraps again. The trial version's registry files mess with the full version's registry files.

There is some sort of problem with FRAPS if you've installed a trial before, NO CRACKS will work.
There was a topic in the zoo about this, but that's premiums only.

That must be it... because I know a lot of people who use that version (including myself) and we've never had a problem with it.

I have this same question myself, actually. I mean, I have Snag-it, but...

The picture quality and the sound are great...the only problem is that the game moves sooo slowly. People have used it before without the slowness, so I'm still trying to figure things out...

Not sure if this talk is allowed, but you can try downloading programs through...other means...

How about you try Camstudio.... or going into your registry and deleting all of the fraps entires before installing our version?

Thanks guys, but as I said before, I have other computers.
And so, it worked on them. I posted the vid on youtube a little while ago.
The resolution isn't that good. I'll have to work on which compressor I use.

When youtube views it and accepts it, I'll post a link here/another forum specified for it.

But technically, this forum can be locked now.

*topic

I use Camtasia on one of my machines because FRAPs kills it; that might be an option to other people who are having problems. :3

If your PC has a TV card with composite input and you have an S-Video out on your graphics card then you can always record that way.

He'll want to use a software video recorder since rm2k3 will be running on his system.

Here's some tips for the best quality youtube video:

Mpeg4 (divx, xvid)
320x240 resolution (or an integer like 2x or 4x [640x480 ][/640x480])
MP3 audio @ 22khz/Mono
30 fps
