Hello everyone! I've been playing around with RMXP lately, decided to get back into RPG making and see if I'm still any good at it.
GW seems to have been down for quite a while though - at least the last few times I've checked. Anyone still come here / is this still a good community site?
Thanks!
-
Fucking A it's Rast. How the fuck are you dude? I've been trying to track you down for a long time. Are you still in the Navy? Where are you stationed? We need to hang out and drink beer or something cool like that.
Anyway, the main site is dead forever and will never come back no matter what anyone tells you. The forum activity goes up and down but has stayed pretty consistent. All the new members we seem to be getting are pretty lame so we just talk about how elitist we old guys are and look cool and stuff.
-
R...Rast.
Haven't seen you in a long time. This might not be the correct forum for this, but yeah the site is being worked on. There's only the forums right now, but once the website is back up you can expect a lot of content. Glad to see you're back, me and Disillusionist(if you remember him) were just talking about you. This is probably the best community site for RM.
-
hello Rast. Your name seems very familiar, and you seem to have joined in 2001, so you must be quite the oldbie! Welcome back.
The mainsite is undergoing a huge facelift in terms of coding, design and function. The forums and IRC are still very lively, but the mainsite has been down for quite a long time.
Stick around, and hopefully the site will be done in the next few months!
edit: hehe... beat Impeal
-
Hey Rast! Yeah, the forums are still active, but the main site has been inactive for 3 years now or something. Anyway, read this topic (http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=57656.0) for more info on that. And this topic (http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=63408.0) is where GW6 matters are discussed.
Anyway, glad to see you again. I'm gonna move this to welcome and farewells since it seems to be a return topic.
-edit-
oh ase beat me too it.

This is probably the best community site for RM.
Eh... not really like it used to be. rm2k/3 and stuff is still semi-huge but RMXP and RMVX are still pretty (dare I say it) niche. If you want RMXP stuff then just go to rmxp.org. They have everything there for that maker...
but their community sucks balls. There's some cool guys but it's mostly made up of 12 year old idiots who think NIGGER isn't a racist term and praise FF7 as their new Jesus.
-
Rast? RAST!!!?????
Fuck! Dude! Welcome!!!!!!!!!
The hero has returneth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So yeah. RM2k3 is still GOD around here. RMVX and XP are discussed, but 2k/3 takes the cake.
-
By the way, if anyone doesn't know who Rast is, check out his GWiki article (http://wiki.gamingw.net/view/Rast).

So Rast, I'm guessing you left because the military world got a bit too hectic for you? There was a time when I left for a year because of it (and they demodded me... so sad). I didn't join until almost a year after you left but if I remember correctly there were some clues left in Dragon Destiny about your times like a map called Gurney something. I think that was the name of a mall in Illinois.
What are you, a second class by now? First? Heck, it's been more than 4 years you're probably out and enjoying civilian life.
OH GOD WHY DID I SIGN THAT EXTENSION!!!
-
Yeah I'm still in the Navy, got till next July till I'm out - I've had enough military bullshit for one lifetime. As for rank, I'm a second right now (I was a second before, then I was a third again for a while.. just made second class again a few months ago). Right now I'm just waiting to get out. I scored a 32 on my ACT but that's about all I can do for another year 'till I enroll at K-State back home.
So for now they got me stuck on San Clemente Island off the coast of southern California. Theoretically I live in San Diego but I'm out here 26 days a month so whatever. I have plenty of time to sit in my barracks room and do nothing so I figure I might as well do something productive.
As for RPMaker stuff.. I like RPXP, you can do just about anything (2D anyway) with the script system which is pretty straightforward (some of the more complicated Dragon Destiny-style stuff was a lot simpler to do in Ruby, and I'm working on a nifty physics-based canon puzzle right now that's be nearly impossible with old-style event code), but the lack of some more advanced event features that were in RM2K/2K3 really annoys me since I generally like to use events when I can because they're a lot faster to develop and easier to debug. So I'm kind of mixed. Bob is happy to finally get his sequel though.
Oh yeah, wrong forum. Go me :(
-
holy shit hey rast!
-
A sequel to Bob?
pfffff
Dragon Destiny needs the proper sequel that never came out!
-
yeah i remember when dragon destiny 2 was being worked on :(
-
Well.. I had all these great ideas.. so I bought RMXP, then realized I didn't know what the fuck I was doing and needed to practice. But still.. everything (major anyway) that was in Dragon Destiny is in my new game so hopefully it won't be too bad.
As for RMXP.org, I'll be sure to check them out later. FF7 is the new jesus? I see some things never change...
Anyway, I'm freezing my ass off out here (we got a bunch of visitors out on the island who've pretty much taken over our lounge so I'm outside where I can get some privacy and an internet connection) so I'm going to head back to my room. Thanks for the warm welcome though :)
-
Oh yeah, forgot to mention I was on the John C. Stennis and we putted around for a year launching missiles at Afghanistan or something. We pulled in San Diego several times and I enjoyed the city. Wouldn't want to live there, though. Too many mexicans (I kid, I kid). I transfered over to the USS EMORY S LAND which is the biggest, nastiest rust bucket in the fleet but it's being decomissioned so my last 2 years are pretty much shore duty. I would be 2nd class by now but the government still doesn't know what to do with the IC rate so I'm stuck 3rd for life.
I've got a cushy job of running the SITE rack... which I'm the only qualified person on the ship to do so I just tell everyone to SHUT UP and get an entire work center to myself, write my own evals, and go home at 1200.

Dear Anonymous Reporter:
You do not report Rast. Well, I mean, if he acts like a dick, sure, but he's Rast, and would never do that.
Sincerely,
kermit the toad
PS: Welcome back, Rast!
-
Hey Rast, long time no see. Hopefully you'll stick around!
And yeah, as for the site, it has been down for a long time and I can't say when GW6 is going to be finished, hopefully before summer but we'll see. We are working on a temp site (GW blog) and we hope to launch it during the weekend though.
-
are you still in the navy?
-
This weekend??? I kinda had the feeling GW6 would be finished before the temp site *_*
Welcome back Rast, I remember you :)

This is an early Christmas present!

Wow, long time no see, i had a name change if you don't rememember me :P. ill give yah a hint, started with RPG. Any way good to see you back in the community, can't wait for a dragon destiny sequal (if there is one) so good luck with that.
-
i pretty much thought you were gone forever man, good to have you back.
-
Wow, long time no see. Welcome back man!
-
Long time Chris,
Good to see you're still alive and well. You disappeared from the internet for quite some time.
To those who don't know 'RPGMaker.net' was founded by Chris [Rast] Nusbaum, John [Kindred] ??, Michael [Airzone] Ireland and myself Allen [Linguar] Copeland Jr. Rast and Kindred used to moderate their own website for RPGEngine and Michael and I used to moderate a website that featured our respective projects, RPG Studio (Formerly IS RPG DS, for Ireland Software RPG Development Suite) and RPGCK (Later CGCK and then EGCK because CGCK was mistaken for a synonym of the word 'phallus' when presented in certain fonts).
To whoever manages GWiki, DarkPriest (http://wiki.gamingw.net/view/DarkPriest/)'s mention of RPGMaker.net leaves out Airzone in the founders of RPGMaker.net.
PS: Chris, I'm thinking of reviving an old project, I'll be mixing a compiler builder, IDE infrastructure, and code generation system as part of the foundation for the project. Can you guess what it is?
-
Gurnee is like 30 minutes from me (tight).
Welcome dude!
-
I think that more welcome back posts should feature the history of the rpgmaker community.

I think that more welcome back posts should feature the history of the rpgmaker community.
Me too.
Welcome to GW.
-
Wow, it's Rast.
Your Bob's big adventure was the first (complete) RM game I played (the 1st is Don Miguel's demo) and it's the one that got me hooked to RM.
So yeah, Welcome back to GW ! Do stick around.
-
i remember your name but not much else
welcome back
-
thanks for the history linguar
your rpgmaking cred is secure
-
Oh wow, it's Rast!
Nice to see you're still alive man. And seriously, Bob is getting a sequal? This is great news.
-
This just made my day.
Rast, you've been a great inspiration to me as a gamemaker ever since, well, I've been making games with RM2k/3. It's really great to see you back, and I'm sure you'll have some amazing things for the community.
I feel sort of split on 2k/3 event "coding" and RGSS/2 scripting as well, but I'm probably going to stick with 2k3 until I finish my game.
-
Heh, hey Rast man... remember me?
What happened to our once-a-year chat? :P
-
Welcome back Rast.
-
Rast... I heard about you.
I heard you were dead.

Jesus christ... r-r-RAST!?
