I came in here to check the TF2 topic and post the GoW2 thread, I figured I'd see if there was any L4D discussion going on and there isn't so hey what the fuck is going on?
Left 4 Dead is an upcoming game by Valve, the same guys that brought us all TF2, Half Life etc. You and your buddies take control of 4 characters left behind in the face of ahorde of zombies. It's a zombie survival game that features multiplayer action. 4 other players can also take on the role of 4 zombie characters for VS action.
The aim of the game is that the four survivors must cooperate to help each other through infected parts of the city to safety. When players are playing as the infected, they must cooperate to stop the survivors from reaching safety.
The main thing that is attracting me to this game is the promise of REAL teamwork. Team Fortress 2 for instance, advertised real teamplay, and in a sense that's true. But there are also times when you can walk into the enemy base, practice pipe bomb jumping for five minutes. Head back to your own base to grab some health. Have a liesurely explore and nobody will really notice. The selling point of this game is, if you don't work as a team. You will die. If you do something wrong, the rest of your team WILL know about it.
Apparently the teamwork kick is that you require the other players to help boost you up walls, and they then require you to pull them up to reach higher locations. Revive downed team mates and cover multiple angles of zombe oppression at a time. I tihnk the game looks pretty cool and I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Wow, this looks pretty great. I've never heard of it before, but it looks and sounds like a pretty sweet idea, and if Valve's behind it, surely it can't be bad?
-
I'm pretty bummed that it's 8 player max :(. I hope you can make maps that support more than 8 players but otherwise i think this game looks great! Teamwork, zombies, guns what can go wrong?

100% Friendly Fire that you can't turn off.
Gee that'll be fun.
(Apart from that I'm really looking forward to it, but yeah that's such a scary idea.)

Oh wow I love zombie survival games especially if they're FPS.

Yeah I thought that too. My usual tactic is SEE ENEMY FIRE. Like in Team Fortress 2 I'm not so conscious of where my team mates are, I'll just unload into the enemy. I'll even shoot THROUGH team mates to get to the enemy so it's going to be pretty interesting having to be more aware of my team mates and to pay closer attention to my aim.

ya and get shot in the leg if you f*ck up or if you happen to be playing with a 13 year old that has just been told to get off the pc

hopefully we can set up some gw games to stop that happening. idk if we will get 8 people but it shouldnt be hard to find 4 to play the survivors, at least.
-
Man, I hope that background music is from the actual soundtrack...

Looks pretty interesting, and if it's Valve it should be good. I wonder if my PC could handle it? Friendly fire will be a bitch, and if you turn your flashlight on, zombies will find you a lot easier, so you pretty much got to know exactly where your shooting, or your f*cked.

Looks a lot better than that awful zombie mod for Counter Strike: Source.

Finally, an awesome zombie FPS that isn't some user made mod. And the team damage aspect doesn't bother me. Even when team damage is enabled I'm not constantly lobbing grenades at my teammates to damage any enemies in the area. Honestly, though. If you're human, and the enemy is zombie, shouldn't be too hard to tell the difference. Team damage enabled helps a lot in games with a lot of explosive weapons that could be exploited when the team damage is disabled by firing at your teammates purpousely with them.
With as moddable as the HL2 engine is, I'm sure there will be mods for 16+ players after it has been released. But even 8p can be fun if they implement it right. Hell, if its balanced enough 1v1 duels may even be fun.

Ya that isn't the reason (I at least) am worried about it. The reason I'm worried is that online FPS are filled with idiots and trolls. Yesterday in TF2 there were a few medics that just sat in the spawn room, charged to 100% and used the uber while running around and taunting. They even responded with "yes" and emotes when you called them on it. If friendly fire was enabled, I'm sure these are the sort of guys that would bonesaw you just as the enemy come to cap a point :).
Like I said though this is easily countered by only playing with friends. I just hope enough people on my friends list buy this that I won't have to use public servers!

Well we've got 20 to 30 TF2 players or so, so I imagine we should be able to easily fill up an 8 player game of this no problem.
Note to bunnymilk: Get the PC version not xbox you chode.
-
I am totally going to get both.
-
you know i got this fuckin game for the pc despite already having the orange box on the xbox so i could enjoy some games with people i knew but it goes so fuckin slow it's a real bummer

There's been talk buzzing around since forever that this'll be shipped with Ep3, in another orange box style package (I am really looking forward to owning my forth copy of HL2 and Ep1 if this is the case!). It sounds interesting (and I like friendlyfire)so I am looking forward to it.
