I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in the Q&A, but I thought this was a better forum for it.
Anyways, a friend of mine wants to hook up his Wii to a PC in order to record videos. However, last time he did this, while the recording was in progress, gameplay lagged a lot, so he thought that if he could somehow split the signal so he could hook it up to his PC and his TV at the same time, he could record on the PC and play on the TV in order to avoid the recording lag. He wants to avoid physical media like VHS or CD/DVD and record right onto his PC.
Is there some kind of cable out there that can split the signal so he could do this? How much does it cost? Does he need to have a certain type of graphics card or will any do?

Depends what cable you were using. If you were using composite then a good old RCA splitter should do the job. Very cheap. And if your video card can already take video in you shouldn't need a new one.

How would I go about finding out if my friend's video card can take video in? I'm not sure if it can and I don't know if he knows how to check either.

I wasn't sure if the way he did it was the same as the splitter. Apparently it was. Quality seems pretty shitty though.
Either way, he ordered the splitter yesterday so we'll mess around with it once it arrives. Thanks for the help.

Thats component cabling for you. S-video would look much sharper, but the video lag is doubtless your system. Try recording with a slightly smaller resolution, lower sound sampling rate, or more aggressive compression.
