Title: MGS2=Confusing
Post by: darkjak951 on February 25, 2008, 01:03:05 am
Yea i am near beating metal gear solid 2 and i just saw a handful of creepy codec moments. Here are some examples:
-General's skull like face in one of them
-Rose claiming that she is pregnant in that demonic voice

what is this all about? O.O could anybody explain please, it would be much appriciated :3

I don't know how many times I've posted this but I'm going to try and make it as simple as possible.

Big Shell isn't real.  It's a simulation designed to collect data in order to create the perfect super soldier (the genome soldier project failed because of the rapid aging process which is why the Snake bros are so fucking old looking).  Raiden is the test subject.  Big Shell was designed after Shadow Moses.  The main group of badguys represents FOXHOUND.  The entire thing was a setup from the beginning.

The colonol is an AI program created by the deceased patriots.  Big Shell itself is actually Metal Gear Arsenal, the super computer through which the rogue AI (the patriots) run the world.  Those "creepy" scenes you saw is the result of Snake uploading the virus which screwed up virtual reality and caused the patriots to reveal themselves.  Solidus  meant to betray the Patriots but he was actually a puppet.  The Patriots didn't expect Liquid Ocelot and Solid Snake to interfere which pretty much screwed up their plans of world domination through an invisible war of information exchange and control.  The S3 program wasn't necessarily a data collection program, but an information control program which you destroyed.

Read this spoiler after you beat the game.

she's real(and pregnant), the AI was using her to get Raiden motivated, which would be hard if he had never met her before in real life.

Why don't you finish the game first before asking all these questions man. It would help, alot.

CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE UNLOCKED SECRET BONUS FEATURE OF MGS2 PLEASE DIEL THIS NUMBER TO RECIEVE YOUR PRIZE FUND

lol jk ;)

No dude, for serious your game is whacked out. I read an article back when the game was released that it's a problem with the coding mesh of the binary image library within the game. (This is over my head) but what it basically narrows down to is that the core system (the game you are playing) overlaps with the VNOS and the eye of your PS2 reads multiple image files at one timecausing some mad glitchouts.

I actually loved those codec moments. Theres some interesting stories the colonel tells, and I believe, you can also see Mei Ling from MGS1 in a dancing vid, and also, a video of MGS NES version can also be seen :D

you guys are all so naive. i can't believe you haven't heard about the MGS2 Poltergeist, aka, MGeiSt

MGeiSt is a nasty spirit who can only find it's physical manifestation in our world through supernaturally inhabiting the actual code of MGS2. there have been many to speculate on the spirit's intentions. some say it is the ethereal representation of a psychic build up of hate for Raiden, others suggest a door ripped through into out dimension from the spirit world when the concept of liquid snake possessing Ocelot's hand was first conceived...me? I think it's just damned evil.

if you were cursed with a haunted copy, well i can only offer you my prayers...

Way to be complete jerks. Just because somebody doesn't get something (or a lot of things), you don't have to use it to blow your load.

Look at post #5 and ignore the rest of this topic, darkjak.

you all lie, this never was a problem. It was implemented in the game, i just beat it and realized that they intentionally put the codec moments in EVERY COPY OF THE GAME. This is part of the games plotline, confusing yes but nevertheless it is not a bug. Like one odvious proof: Last codec moment before the fight with solidus explains it all, basically what angry black man said in post #5 is true, partly. Rose is real, but there is an AI posing as rose to modivate raiden. Also the fact that the diologue does not at all seem cut up, it is well stringed together and seems like it is part of the script. Its just one of the many qualities that make metal gear's storyline the most fucked up anyone has ever seen!

nuh-uh, dude, you've been invaded by MSGeiST and your copy had the shagohad bug in it.  the only reason you think every copy is like that is because the shadow moses virus is making you think that way.  plug your controller into port 2 and reset your clock back by 36 minutes.  this way you'll resist the mind control.

I'm not sure if people were trying to be dicks or see if darkjak would actually buy it but yeah, it's obviously not a bug and he knows it so enough of that.

uh, hideo kojima gave konami instructions to make two slightly different copies of the game: one with the codec glitches and one without. The one without actually has a different ending. what's less known is that you can actually tell what copy you're getting from the barcode number of your game. If it's odd you have the glitched copy, if it's even, you've got the alternate ending.

admittedly, the alternate ones are harder to find. they don't really have any marks distinguishing them from the normal copies, but since the ending of the game was completely different, konami had to register a separate ISBN. If you really want to see the alternate ending, buy or rent one with an even ISBN number.

It's how the Patriots kept control over Raiden.  By constantly reminding him about the life he thought he had, they were able to keep in control.  Every event in the game became wackier and wackier but by keeping Raiden grounded to reality he forgot that he was fighting a vampire that can swim through oxidized water, a semi-immortal woman, a skating fatguy, and a Dr. Octopus ripoff who fought in a fucking harrier (protip: one man vs harrier = harrier wins).

Dude, don't underestimate the power of MSGeiST.  It uses a simple low polygon display to fool you into thinking that it's fake.  What better way to hide itself then by appearing not real?

Meh, thought it was worth noticing too that S3 as a training program for creating a new Solid Snake was a hoax on itself. I'll just say that you're right, don't want to get in any fights.

You do know that MGS2 was made and written with the purpose of mocking gamers (and the ridiculousness of games themselves and as a medium) as it's main point?
Like the main point of the game was TO BE A JERK TO PEOPLE, by mocking the Solid Snake cult. Snake's butt has more polygons than any other character. Snake was in screenshots and then replaced with Raiden to poke at the hero worship Snake has. Raiden himself was made to be the antithesis of Snake, to further provoke people's awesomely oblivious reactions. The bosses are beyond terrible and cheesy to show how bad game bosses really are (for example that invincible woman was an attack on games where characters were invincible and can't be damaged until their point to die in the story), likewise the plot pokes at the ridiculousness of VG plots, the cardboard box is an absurdity and totally surreal. The game is praised on being a realistic espionage game... yet it's completely ridiculous and so deliberately over the top, to laugh at the kind of people (or "idiots" as they are commonly known) who actually believe it is a realistic espinage game (... such as many game critics such as the guys over at GamesMaster)

Man I can't believe I posted something serious in this topic :(

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not but Kojima is really bitter about the MGS franchise because Konami keeps renewing his contract.  MGS3 was supposed to be the last game but I can only imagine making Snake OLD in MGS4 was to piss off a lot of people.

But yeah, MGS2 was postmodern or some shit.  To avoid posting several walls of text, it's best to say that the entire point of the game was to screw with you, the player.  I remmeber pointing out how realistically rendered the character's asses where when the first trailer of this was shown in 2000.
