Titan Quest
I know its not good to start out by saying this game is pretty much diablo II in full 3d, but it's pretty much true. Like Diablo 2, the game has a top down camera at a locked angle, an inventory system based on square-sizes, armor consists of helm/chest/gloves/boots/2 rings/necklace, a primary and secondary weapon set, the items have special colors for their different rarities, when you level you get stat points plus skill points, click for attack, shift-click for bow attack, "gem" like items that combine into larger "gems" to upgrade weapons/armor with, minimalistic towns with clear cut quests, a waypoint system connected to a town portal system, similar interface, similar gameplay, etc etc etc
Maybe this video can help me explain it.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=t0PCH5OUxS4
They turned off the interface, and its only one player, but you get the idea.

For those of you who haven't played Diablo II, it was a great game to play with friends with a fairly simple combat system of click to swing. The gameplay wasn't very complex so it was a great game to just relax with at a lan party and have some good fun. Even people new/bad at video games could hop in a party and be useful by spamming one or two spells most the time.

For anyone looking for a RPG with depth, this isn't it. But as far as a multiplayer hack&slash RPGs go, this one is pretty fun. I could easily see this game becoming as addicting as Diablo II was, for pretty much the same reasons.

Anyone else get a chance to play this? I'm sure some of you just love these kinds of games, so hopefully someone other than me and my casual rpg friends get exited over this.

heh.....we had a topic on this.....when it came out.............like two years ago

I was actually playing it about four or five months ago, I went through all the way to China but jesus does it ever get MUNDANE after 20 hours. I know that's sort of a noshitsherlock type of statement but seriously. After the novelty wears off in Greece, the change of setting to Egypt helped but after THAT you sort of don't want to hack through ANOTHER country.

I mean, there's nothing really wrong with Titan Quest except that it falls prey to the main problem the hack and slash genre has: repetitive gameplay. The graphics are excellent, (it still looks pretty today and runs smooth as silk) and the ragdoll and stuff makes battles entertaining to watch sometimes. I found the towns neat, with many (non-interactive) NPCs walking around and going about their business. Its got everything you really need in the way of skill trees, unique items, bosses, and magic too - it's just that the main story and core gameplay is entirely based around going from area to area killing everything you see. I guess if this doesn't bother you, then it's really the PERFECTION of the hack and slash genre.

Wow, after lvl 10, the game gets waaaaay too easy. I had to get xmax which multiplies the amount of enemies by 10. I don't mind them being that weak if I can fight them wall to wall.

I heard Ironlore actually closed down due to pirates giving this game bad reviews for crashing. (Which occurred only because of piracy checks)

Actually I heard they just couldnt secure the funds for future projects.

I started playing this again, since I have a computer that runs it MUCH better now. I enjoyed it as Rowain said, it does hack n slash very well. Also I prefer the generally cheery (looking) atmosphere to that of say, Diablo. Plus, I have a soft spot for ancient history.

If anything it's great because the game is dirt cheap now that Ironlore is out of the picture.

Yeah they studio closed and one of the HOT RUMORS going around right now is that while a lot of people *played* the game, not many people actually paid for it.  It was hit really badly by piracy and publishers wouldn't pick up the studio for another project due to low sales.  Who knows what's true though -- I mean it's just as possible that someone on the inside was embezzling all of their profits and that's the true reason that they went into debt and shut down.

Anyway I sort of like Diablo games a little bit and have been hankering for a good one for awhile.  When this came out I was using a laptop exclusively and since laptops don't have real graphics cards you can't play any games that use hardware accelleration so I passed this up.  But you know since someone came and made a new topic and I have a pretty respectable desktop I think I'll go and pick it up.  It's probably like $10 or something like all PC games are after a year or two so that's cool.

Does anyone here want to play some coop with me?  That would be rad.

There's a Bang Camaro song in that game.

I find that funny.

I really like this game, but dude it sucks without the expansion. And try saying "too easy" at the 4th chapter (added by expansion.) esspecialy with XMAX on. It also adds loads of stuff to all chapters like new items, arcane formulas (Artifacts) and a new kick ass mastery. And HP/MP is shown in digits too.

Noted.  I'm sure there's a DELUXE EDITION or whatever that includes both for $30 or whatever so I'll get them together.

And man I am playing this PS2 strategy game (Soul Nomad and the World Eaters Japfags) and while it's an awesome game the characters' HP is shown only as a bar during battles and not as a number and it's really infuriating.  It can actually be a huge detriment to your overall strategy to not know exactly which portion of the enemy's HP 68 damage is and have to guess that it *might* be about half.  Is it safe to attack him again?  Who knows?  You can find out by sifting through a few dozen extra menus but seriously man.  It's actually a much more important feature than some people think to show key status with digits and not just bars.

Dude, I will play with you. I just started playing this again yesterday. Last time I played I only got up to Egypt and it got really boring, and I don't remember where exactly I am right now but I think I am about to fight that giant cyclops, so I'm not that far in yet. My guy is a Warfare/Defender if that affects how you want to make a guy or whatever (if you haven't already!).

How many people is it possible to co-op with? I bet we can get a whole bunch more if we try.

Is the ranger class broken? I put on the xmax mod AND a mod that sets the difficulty up to the same as if 6 players were in multiplayer, and STILL entire rows of enemies fall with a single shot of my bow. That fragmented arrow is overpowered.

I finally bought this off of Direct2Drive lastnight and had a chance to play it for about 20 minutes.  I was really impressed with how nice and polished the graphics are and with how solid the game feels.  It's awesome that (at least so far) you seem to spend a good amount of time outdoors and not spelunking all the time.  It runs pretty well, too; I have a reasonable gaming PC and this is an older game but sometimes I have lag issues with poorly optimized games like Stalker or Neverwinter Nights 2 (NW2 is probably the biggest system hog with the last graphical payoff I've ever seen).  I like it so far, but I'm not far enough into the game to really pass judgment.  I'm not sure if I read the tutorial right, but at level 8 or so I get to choose a second character class?  The game does seem a little too easy, but the expansion hadn't finished downloading when I tried it, and you guys are talking about mods to fix the difficulty, so maybe I'll investigate that stuff later.  Anyway we should schedule a time this weekend so that we can all play together!

With the initial gear you find like magic (yellow) or rare (green) items you will have some trouble. That's where farming bosses (ones who leave an orb) comes in. After some time you are bound to get epic (blue) or legendary (purple) item. And as you start farming, every new find that you can use makes the job easier and easier... And after that you're a god, until Act 4 ofc.

P.S.Get to Act 4 and THEN complain about how easy the game is. That is if the Draconians don't kill you very often on China.

Ok, its this fragmented arrow spell, it's way overpowered. I seriously just line up a group of guys and they all die down the path of the arrow (and even ones near the path). My bow does about 30-40 per shot, and this skill does 200dmg per fragment, and it shoots off 7-9 fragments on each explosion, and a single arrow can cause several explosions because my arrows have a 50% chance to penetrate its target and goto the next one in it's path. This is the only class I've played so far but JESUS CHRIST how could somebody not catch something so unbalanced. I tried taking points out of it and putting them into healing so my defense spec friend could tank them like he's built to. But he can't even take their dmg what with the extra numbers + extra difficulty. So I put them back into it and now he gathers them into a group, and I let loose 1-2 arrows and they all drop dead. I can stand on a bridge while waves constantly come at me, all being cut down before they can melee me, most the time.

This game is still fun, and my friend doesn't mind the role change from tanking to merely rounding them up, but it's a situation I've never been in before, being so overpowered in an RPG that I wish I wasn't making one hit kills (or in this case, multikills in one hit).

Don't worry, there are MANY spells who are overpowered early on. After monsters will begin to have 1000-2000+ HP it will be a little bit different. Of course you can increase the damage of fragments with +x%Piercing Damage IIRC, but still, on Epic and Legendary difficulties it won't be THIS effective.

the only people who play on epic and legendary are people who are autistic. this is the first game that actually caters to the mentally disabled. ok, let's play a game that is ridiculously hard and not fun anymore to get items.

I never got very addicted to D2 but this game sucked me in for a while, so I'd say it's probably more addictive. Though it could just be that I really like the mastery thing in Titan Quest more than the classes in D2. I especially like the one in the expansion, I think it's called Dream? Something along those lines.

I've got the discs around somewhere (for both the original and the expansion (can't for the life of me remember what the name of this is)), I think I deleted my characters though so if I were to play with anyone my guy would be level 1.

It is more addictive however it is also less fun so idk, prolly wont last you very long unless you're one of those guys who never stopped playing D2.

You're joking, right?  Because if you're not I'm probably going to barf.  Also since I bought the game online I don't have a CD so I don't know if I can use a no-CD crack.

The no-cd should still work since it's the same executables (unless it's something proprietary like steam). But no one has to use cracks if everyone loads off of their CD (or ISO). Just a pain to have to keep doing either, imo. I'm also surprised theres no mini-images out for this considering how the cracks can't be used with non-cracked/other crack versions.
