Ok, so I've got a 360. I love it, play it all the time (although right now it is being repaired because of RROD, which is annoying). Anyway, I adore my 360. But come the end of next month, I was going to purchase a PS3 in order to play GTA IV at what I thought would be it's best. I've always thought that the PS3 in a direct same-game comparison, would have better graphics, etc.
I was just wondering, would there be any noticeable difference? I'm going to get a PS3 anyway, due to MGS4, but I was wondering if I should just get GTA IV for the 360 for the moment.

Whenever I read comparisons between ports on the 370 and PS3, they usually always say that the 360 has livelier, brighter colours but the PS3 tends to have better the framerate so.. I guess it comes down to which you value more, colour or framerate.
-
dont spend like 700 bucks for one game dude. its not like the PS3 will have better graphics than the PC version that will come out later. stick with 360 and save some money!
-
Word on the street is that PS3 version will also have expansion pack things (available on the PSN) so keep that in mind too. I'd assume they'd include things like new missions and assuming the game brings back such things, rampages, cars/car lists, and hell who knows, they might even add new areas at some point, since they can do that now.

No amount of downloadable content is worth $700. Fuck, buy other games if you need more game after you've depleted GTA.
-
ya, in comparison to what sarah said, they have only officially announced the downloadable content for the 360 so far. 360 WILL be getting dl content, ps3 MIGHT. i dont think its worth dropping that much moolah on a game where down the line we will be all MAN THAT EXTRA MISSION WAS ACE and you will be all :( damn you #1 dad!!!
-
Basically, PS3 and Xbox 360 games have pretty much equal graphics right now. Some games are developed for 360 and then ported to PS3 and vice versa and I think that usually makes the small difference there is. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure PS3 is more capable graphically and potentially it can have better graphics (and if this is true, it eventually will) but looking at all the comparisons, there's hardly any difference right now. I haven't actually looked at any GTA4 comparisons though.

I didn't say that. But if that's something that important to him and he's already considering buying a PS3 than it's just another reason.
Also if you pay $700 for a ps3 you're nuts. You can find them much cheaper at pawn shops and stuff.
edit: oh really jester? i don't follow video games really, i had just heard that so whoops I guess my bad
-
Also where is this $700 price tag coming from now? I know you guys are factoring the game in too, but the PS3 is only $499 now with an 80gb HD and $399 with a 40gb HD.

Gran Turismo 5.

This pretty much depends where you live. The cheapest you can get it in Finland is around $700-$750 but yeah, it should be A LOT cheaper in America, like $400-$500 or something.

I'll be gettin it for 360 because I only own a 360 why dont you be more like me and get it for the only console you own?
also expansion packs/DL addons are only confirmed for the 360 so far!!
plus the 360 has a better controller
at least compared to the xbox controller LOL
no really 360 controller >> ps2 controller
-
I don't know, the Playstation controller has been around for so long that it's like a household appliance now. You can just pick it up and play anything you want on it with ease. It isn't cumbersome like the new controllers (I'm looking at you, Wii!)
-
360 has exclusive downloadable episodic content comming up in the future for GTA4 plus previews I have read say there is no noticable difference between how it plays on either console. And besides only fools and posers buy PS3s (heh DS)
And word on the net (streets are such cruddy sources) are that the episodic content may include radically different new areas to those in the main game!
-
Depends on if you want downloadable content, or new GTA in 09.
-
i doubt they'll make ps3 only gtas any time soon. theyll more than likely expand on this engine for a while first, the same way they did with gta3/vc/sa.
so, yeah, while it may eventually get exclusive gtas, i dont think that should be a deciding factor in this specific choice.

Yeah seriously man you should never buy any multiplatform game on PS3 instead of 360 except for maybe Burnout Paradise and arguably Devil May Cry 4 but even then it's a close call. Like I even *prefer* my PS3 over my 360 (lol fanboy) but 100% of the time I have noticed the PS3 version is much worse. A lot of minor games have only very minor and insiginificant differences but in every case except Burnout Paradise the PS3 comes out on top. Also, the downloadable content is 360-exclusive (Microsoft provided $50 million in deferred revenue for it so there's no way that it will show up on PS3). So like . . . getting a PS3 for GTA IV is just not a very good idea. Getting a PS3 just because you want one however is advisable.
Anyway man if I were a mod I would ban topics like this because it's just like fuel for a massive flamewar and they never end well.
-
I'm gonna get a ps3 anyway - MGS4 and FFXIII. The only reason i bought a PS2 was for FFX. Turned out to be well worth the money, I think I'm just gonna get it for the 360 anyway, get a PS3 when MGS4 comes out - maybe it'll be down in price.
And downloadable content doesn't bother me. This game is gonna be massive anyway.
-
Well Sony is gonna have a Metal Gear Solid bundle pack when MGS4 is released. You'll get the new wireless Dual Shock controller(holy shit RUMBLE!!), along with MGS4 and a 80GB PS3 for $499. I'd much rather wait for that little bundle since that's a very good deal.
Other than the downloadable content, the GTA versions are basically the same.

Just one reason why you aren't a mod, then. A lot of topics are good fuel for flamewars, but the show must go on!
I think it is best to get a 360 for GTA IV. For one, I think it is the better console, but you also have the downloadable content and stuff that is confirmed. I also like it's controller more and xbox live is pretty good. Anyhow, these are only my opinions, so go with what you feel is best.
-
I've already got a 360. I know it's awesome (read my first post). I was just wondering if anyone had any insight into whether the PS3 version of GTA IV would be better.
But I guess conclusions have been met.
-
while we're at it is there any chance mgs4 will get put out for the 360?
i'm sick of this multiple consoles crap i wanna play no more heroes
-
i think it would be in your best interest to buy the ps3 specifically for grand theft auto 4 and nothing else.
-
mgs4's ps3 only.
and thanks dog for reading the topic, i said i was gettin a PS3 ANYWAY.
-
are you serious dogchode69??
-

you're not missing anything
-
Actually if you just wanna get GTAIV and don't really care about any other features the 360 would be the way to go, the oline service is also a plus.
-
360, thats what I'm getting... I'd get the PC version but I'm to impatient for the game. I'm not going to wait, I mean I can barely wait for the 360 one...
-

i hear that i absolutely am missing something. how much did you like killer 7?
-
You're missing the best cowboy musical performance in any game ever.
-
So I've pre-ordered the game (in sweden) for the xbox 360. There was a nice little pre-order offer: The game including some bag, a t-shirt, 500 points plus 12 months xbox live - all this for about 60 dollars! (lol).
-
There seems to be a lot of talk about whether or not the PS3 version will be better. Well, that's really simple.
I used to say, Yes. PS3 will be better, however... I now don't give a rats ass.
So; Here's what I've gathered:
PS3 and 360's GTA IV won't differ, really. The graphics are reportedly akin to the brightness of Vice City, whereas the PS3 has a more realistic colour scheme like GTAIII. At the beginning of production, Microsoft reportedly bought the exclusive rights to certain downloadable content. However, with the PSN and all the downloadables via it, I'm sure PS3 will see different content in due / the same time. Or, when the exclusive licence runs out.
The PS3 controller is (in an unbias opinion) better. It's so damn sensitive! (though the R2 + L2 fucking suck ass... I hate that shape!)
We have rumours / news of online gameplay... Well, that right there goes in PS3's favour, since PlayStation users don't pay for internet like XBOXLiver's
That's about it, really.
