Title: Beznozny facet smieje sie z przypadkowych ludzi

http://potw.news.yahoo.com/s/potw/64390/what-are-you-looking-at

I really enjoyed this article for a couple reasons, first of all it wasn't one of those OH NO YOU POOR THING LOOK AT THIS MAN'S COURAGE OPRAH STORY SAPPY SAP excrement. The guy is a friggin badass. The dude won a silver medal in skiing at the X-games. He is not disadvantaged much at all really, except that he is lacking legs. Apparently he gets around just fine. contrary to expectation the thing I found most intriguing was the sociological aspect of his picture taking mission, together with the things that people project onto him, such as the woman from New Zealand who asked him 'were you bitten by a shark?'. Its interesting to see what we project onto people we perceive as being handicapped. Anyway thought I'd share it with you guys.

in addition his website is signal of angry dismissal sweet: http://www.therollingexhibition.com

Oh fuck... I'VE SEEN THIS GUY.  My parents took me to Disney World when I was 10 and I specifically remember seeing this legless kid at the Epcot Center.  His back was turned but I COULD NOT STOP STARING IT WAS RIDICULOUS

There was a kid in my high school who was born with no legs and he was a skateboarder or something.  The guy was a huge fucking arrogant jerk so I never bothered to just look at him.  Couple that with all the disfigured wierdos I saw in a single trip to India and I just don't care about "freaks" to give them a second look.  All people are ugly to me, I just kind of stare straight ahead or look directly down whenever I walk.

Wow, this guy is really cool. His photographs are really good... it's neat because you know that he's one of the few who are actually able to take shots like that.

I wonder how he would feel if someone didn't ask him about his legs... would he feel like they feel guilty or something? Idk, I wonder what's more common, people resisting the urge to ask or people projecting their stories on to him, like he ways in the article. I would imagine the former but I wonder what he thinks about that?

The more social people are, the more they tend to project the stories.

My girlfriend is deaf, so I get alot of people walking up, striking random conversation obviously pointed toward her "condition" (god she hates that). They tend to assume that she's lost her hearing in some "freak accident" (it's sad that I have to quote this) or something along those lines. People are really stupid. Once, a woman had walked up to me and said "I really appreciate that you're doing such a service to your community, by interacting with the deaf-mutes." I was -so- pissed.

At any rate, she really doesn't mind whether or not the subject is brought up -- some people are genuinely interested, or maybe horrified. She doesn't care. It's just a fact of life that she's accepted a long time ago. But the questions do get tiresome.

Heh -- it's funny, because she wants to be a photographer. Maybe I could get her to do the same thing -- only, the reactions would obviously not be as dramatic. I'll post them if she does.

Yeah, I really liked the angle of the shots too, because obviously... hes only like 3 foot something, and has the camera secured to his waist pretty much. No where else are you gonna get those kinda ground level looking up shots of people with the strangest looks on their faces. I think my favorite people are the weird old men in Romania and Hungary lol

Man I specifically try not to project onto someone like that, but then again I haven't asked too many times either

about the most personal experience I can think of is people projecting their musical taste because you like one group and even that kind of bothers me so I can't imagine what it'd be like for people to project a whole PAST onto you

This guy is awesome.  I watched a news story about him that was absolutely amazing, and the guy seems really likeable.

But holy shit some people are ignorant.  My girlfriend has a chest down her scar from heart surgery.  Anyone can see it if she wears a shirt that is even kind of low.  People talk to her like she's disabled or something, and ask the dumbest fucking questions:

"Was the surgery successful?"
"Did you get that in an accident?"
"Did you know you have a scar on your chest?" (Sadly, yes I'm serious about this one)

Yeah, I've got comments like that too.  The worst one was from my mom who said, "you know you're so sweet, taking care of her despite her problems."  Jesus fucking christ, it's just a fucking scar.  I'm with her because I want to fuck her.

Hahaha. That half-assed sympathy leads people to say pretty stupid shit.

Would be funny as hell if some random person was like "Do you know you have a scar on your chest?" and she pretended to freak out and started yelling and shit! lmao

Damn, it's a shame she doesn't get that question very often, but I'll recommend she does that.  I've told her she should tell people she got into a knife fight (she doesn't look like the kind of person who would EVER be in one), but I don't know if she has yet.

Now, if I could find his current whereabouts so that I can stare at him and become famous...
As a lot of people have said, this guy is cool.
