Title: Rosario to vampire
Post by: Arks Inger on March 22, 2008, 09:21:13 am
Sorry for my first topic about it, I haven't enough time for a correct presentation!

Rosario + Vampire  is a Japanese manga series that was originally serialized in Monthly Shonen Jump, between 2004 and June 2007; a single extra chapter was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2007. In November 2007, the manga began regular serialization again, now in Jump Square, and is ongoing. An anime adaptation started broadcast in Japan, on January 3, 2008

Plot

Tsukune Aono is a painfully average high school freshman, who is unable to get into any private school, due to his disappointing grades. The only school that he is finally accepted into turns out to be a secret school for supernatural monsters (yōkai), who are in disguise as humans. The first student he meets is the beautiful Moka Akashiya, who takes an immediate liking to him for an unusual reason; she is a vampire, and is attracted to the sweet taste of his human blood. Tsukune quickly realizes that his admission into a monster school must have been a mistake and fears for his life.

Despite Moka's vampiric nature, she is a kind girl and Tsukune quickly falls for her. He decides to stay at the school, to be near her, despite the various dangers. He must hide his human identity from the faculty and other students, while trying to keep his grades up and avoiding conflicts with the various not-so-mythological monsters lurking around campus. Tsukune soon discovers that when he removes the rosary around Moka's neck, she transforms into her true form, an S-rank vampire, stronger and more powerful than almost any other creature at the school. However, in this state, Moka has an entirely different personality, often cold and merciless, so the rosary is only removed in dire emergencies. So far, Tsukune is the only person who can physically remove the rosary to transform Moka, and only in the case of an emergency (as is seen in the anime's second episode, where the rosary remains physically bound to Moka while Tsukune attempts to willfully remove it in a moment immediately preceding, but not interjecting, a malignant situation). Tsukune and Moka make new friends and enemies, as their stay at Yōkai Academy progresses.

I tried watching this and managed to get to the sixth episode, it was hard.

The entire thing is a big fan service romp that seems to be made for otaku who get cheap thrills out of a hundred pantie shots per episode.  It's as if they tried to focus on all the stereotypes that they could, loli-, slut/easy, sadist, vorist (aka someone into vore, the fetish to devour) and so on.  The thing loves to mentally abuse its characters and put them in the most awkward positions possible.

I can't think of a single redeeming value on this series.  The Succubus even tries to continually seduce the main lead, while that does live up to her name, that doesn't make it very interesting if she's trying the same tired tactics over and over.  What's with the bi-loli anyway?  She starts out interested in the GIRL Moka; he saves her so she's attracted to Moka and Tsukune?  Creepy, or as you would put it
kimochi warui ?
, largely due to her age.

I liked the concept of some kid being sent to a school for monsters, but the fact that they made it one of the trashiest harem shows, kills it for me.

I read this and thought I might give it a shot, and even then I was seriously doubting it. The story itself didn't really sound that good, and pretty much screamed boring. But then I read this

No.
Fuck that.

I only watched the first episode. Although the quality is nice and the premise is interesting, it's just another harem anime.

Learn better english mate, COURT doesn't have nearly the same meaning as in french. Here you say SHORT. The stories were SHORT.

This thing sucks anyway.

Also yeah, you can't say DEFAULTS either. It's FLAWS. Learn english.

At Sakuracon yesterday, a Dark Horse representative was talking about the new english translation of the manga and the dub of the anime.  I was wholly uninterested.

I like the name. That's pretty much it. I don't know what Rosario is but it sounds kinda cool coupled with vampire.

Court means either short or a court of law, which really has nothing to do with this so obviously that's not what you're saying.

However short can mean either COURT or PETIT in french. If you STILL don't get it, feel free to tell me what you're trying to say in french and I'll translate it.

Not that anyone cares anyway.

I was kinda annoyed with it, The base line plot had real potential for some good plot twists. Instead we get a fan service filled, trashy (couldn't have put it better my self) harem anime. Honestly it even failed at being a harem show i mean i get the point of it but they could have tried. Look at Vandread, yes it was a harem show but it still had things like character development, twists and hardships. this easily could have been done better. I mean parts of it didn't even make any sense (just watch it and you'll find out).
In the end TOTAL FAILAGE, the only good bit was right at the end where .

I've been reading the manga up to point and I enjoy it. I'm absolutely going to
watch this, although it probably won't chronically live up to the manga.

I can imagine this is only suited for people who liked the manga, seen how the
plot is rather shallow.

EDIT: also, the title is Rosario+Vampire, with the + normally representing a cross.

Actually, that's basically the English equivalent to Rosario to Vampire (to=and)
It seems...boring actually...

rosario and vampire doesn't make sense. Rosario and the vampire, would make more sense... But then it'd sound like an Adam Sandler movie, and nobody would watch it. Rosario and vampires works, but that sounds like some kinda fetish porno. Rosario to vampire would imply she transforms into one, which may or may not be the case (I don't watch it).

Well, depending on how you look at it, she transforms.

Ok... Let me start of by saying that I love this series.  I have read the entire Manga [upto ][/upto].  I CAN NOT stand the anime!!!

The anime took none of the good parts of the manga turned them into something so incredibly stupid it's not worth it.

I would suggest that people skip the anime and read the manga, the manga is a 1000 times better and doesn't have a lot of fan service in it [there ][/there].

Ok... Let me start of by saying that I love this series.  I have read the entire Manga [upto chapter 8 of the second season].  I CAN NOT stand the anime!!!

The anime took none of the good parts of the manga turned them into something so incredibly stupid it's not worth it.

I would suggest that people skip the anime and read the manga, the manga is a 1000 times better and doesn't have a lot of fan service in it [there is some, but no where near the amount that is in the anime].

I read some of the manga and the whole damn thing is one big cock tease.

Ummm... ok.... how?  Unless you get off on that kind of thing [I would suggest Sekirei or Tenjou Tenge, not much plot but plenty of bare naked boobs].

How much of the manga have you read?  I can understand if you only the first few chapters, but I don't see how you can judge a manga by the first few chapter alone.

I guess everyone has different tastes...  I don't see what your seeing obviously, but maybe I'm just more tolerant of certain aspects of manga.  I actually got into a discussion with a moderator at animecrazy.net about what is ecchi.  In the end I lost since the definition of ecchi is so broad, but I can to realize that my definition of ecchi was too specific.

I guess some people can't look past the occasional panty shot [which ][/which] and read the manga for the story and art.  Oh well...

I didn't say I get off on any of it if thats what you thought I ment. The plot was shallow and predictable, nothing that hasn't been seen before. It tries to come of as cute, but misses the point. What I truly ment, by what I said was the whole damn thing is about girls trying to rub against the main protagonist with a random problem in between.

Umm... ok... I didn't it like that, but I guess we're just different.

I can see your point, but I guess to me that was part of the charm...

This looks pretty bad, like a giant fan service-anime. Am I close?

Post by: Firestalker5 on July 03, 2008, 03:13:47 pm
The anime is pretty much "Fan-Service", but the manga has a plot and the "Fan-Service" is few...  Well, fewer than the anime.

Personally I see the "Fan-Service" in the manga as filler to to the story, seeing as how the story is about a human in a school for monsters that would kill him if they found out he was human.  Only one person knows he's human and that's Moka...  The girl that he likes.  He even decided to stay at the school for her.  The rest of the story starts getting good about chapter 20, that's when Tsukune starts having a reaction to the overconsumption of vampire blood in his system.  After that the story starts to go a lot faster and the "Fan-Service" takes a back seat to the story much moire than before.

I would suggest reading the chapters leading up to Chapter 20 though as they introduce a lot characters that are pivotal to the plot later on in the manga.

Ugh just looking at that screenshot with the protagonist in some girls chest reminds me so much of Maburaho and that pink haired goodness makes me want to slash her off.

I don't know, it doesn't seem worth to watch noticing I didn't like Love Hina :S
I rather have plot first, fanservice later  :shocking:

I watched the whole thing, it was alright... but like most animes, the ending was disapointing for me. All in all, its like Sailor Moon, with a major twist... though I chuckle with the lil monster who says how long the fight lasts. XD
