Title: The Black Mages III: Darkness and Starlight
Post by: Draykon on March 24, 2008, 02:18:33 am
It came out last week and I haven't had a chance to discuss it with anyone. I personally was looking forward to the title track. Aria de Mezzo Carattere was one of my favourite tracks of FFVI. I definitely enjoyed how The Black Mages redid the track. So has anyone else listened to the album yet? If so did they enjoy it? And for those who haven't heard it yet, is there a certain track they look forward to hearing?

Sorry man, the Black Mages fucking suck.

Seconded.  Their first album was fun in a cheesy, embarassing, they-don't-seem-to-be-in-on-the-joke sort of way, the second album was really awful.  If that was any indication of the direction they are headed in from now on I am seriously not interested.

Love the Black Mages. Amazing stuff, that would go great to a soundtrack.

A lot of their chops, you can tell, came from either 80s music or Dream Theaters early 90s albums.

Good stuff indeed, although their later music I heard was more original music. If this is true, it probably isn't nearly as good as it used to be, although if Nobuo Uematsu is still within the band it's probably amazing as usual. ;-)

The Black Mages are just amazing, anyone that can play an instrument (especially guitar) will love their first 2 albums. I'd recommend this to anyone, if they are still re-creating Final Fantasy music.

Contrary to what the above 2 posts are about, I really love Nobuo Uematsu, just about any Final Fantasy music, and I found many of the tracks really beautiful. Those Who Fight Further, Their re-make of To Zanarkand (which will take some getting used to); just phenominal stuff that is still inspiring me to keep up with the composing, guitar, writing, and artwork.

Again, I highly recommend anything of the Black Mages to anyone that loves Final Fantasy soundtracks, listens to japanese music or likes Anime soundtracks such as Naruto and Bleach.

If you don't play games like Guilty Gear, like anime (Watched Naruto or Bleach through), haven't played Final Fantasy 6-10, don't like 80s music such as Ozzy, The Scorpions, etc... and are more into Mainstream music such as Rap/Pop/Modern-Alternative this album is probably/unfortunately not for you.
