Any castlevania fan recodnizes 2003's GBA game, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. I for one loved it, it was one of my favs right next to castlevania: CotM.
If you guys liked it, then you get another chance to play it...on your phone!
Now i know what you are thinking: "Was konami's previous attempt to bring castlevania to mobile phones complete shit? Will this one be the same, watered down crap like the previous one?" Answer is, No O.O! This game is completely in-tact, the full Aria is here and it is awesome on the phone.
Story: Its 2035, and Soma Cruz was going to visit his friend, Mina Hyakuba until they get sucked into the lunar eclipse. Inside, lies the legendary castle of darkness, castlevania. In order to escape the castle in the eclipse, Soma must find out the origins of his dark powers and travel deeper into the bowels of castlevania.

Mobile games are horrible, and I'm pretty sure this is just as choppy, laggy and hard-maneuvered as all other cellphone platformers.
I am saying this because they go for like $10 and you only play them once before realizing that they are unplayable!

I guess there are a couple types of phone that are actually decent for playing games but nobody has them and people who want serious gaming on the go end up buying a dedicated platform. But I definitely agree with you and I've gotten a couple of ports that I was promised would control pretty smoothly (Mega Man 2, Sonic) and ended being a complete waste of my three dollars or whatever.

megaman 2, yes but i found sonic pretty smooth....

I don't get mobile gaming beyond like PONG or SPACE INVADERS or TETRIS. When the PSP does so much multimedia shit and costs, what $140 or whatever, why would you spend that much on a phone with a terrible game library? You could argue for the ALL IN ONE aspect of cell phones, but how often are you just CHILLIN with nothing to do and you decide to break out your phone to play some shitty handheld port? If you're going on a long trip and need plane/car entertainment, why not just use the real deal GBA or DS or PSP?
BASICALLY, how often do you have the TIME for playing an involved game like Aria of Sorrow on the go but also DON'T have access to a better handheld platform?
-
The attack animation is hilarious.
-
People play cellphone games?

ok ill admit, 90% cell games blow in mi opinion, i think the other 10% goes to great moblie games like sonic or doom rpg. According to reviews, it fits into that 10%. What intrigues me is to how did konami fit the full game into 256 kb?! It is the full game, all areas and monsters are there and all those should have taken waaay more space o.o and its still a cool game, even with space in the kb's, which is rare
-
The only games I play on my cell phone are like...Lemonade Tycoon...and other things that are incredibly simple that ANYTHING could play.
-
My friend worked for a big cellphone company, and basically said it was impossible because of how many "platforms" you had to cross ports to.

Anything aye? :waycool:
Not really into Castlevania, or Cellphones for that matter, but If I had one.. nah still wouldn't.
-
Yeah man like games that are so simple you could play them on a microwave.

Well it's not that surprising really. When you consider that the graphics have sharply reduced colors and frames of animation, it's really not that hard to believe. I'm sure that the environments were redrawn with a more limited tileset as well. However I do think it's neat that they ported a big, serious game to mobile rather than having a third party develop a half-assed platformer and slap the Castlavania branding on it (this has happened before).

Actually, there are some decent turn based strategy games on the cell phone like Capitalism and stuff like that. Playing action games one-handed just doesn't work, though.
Just to add to the topic, I hated Aria especially the last boss who was the cheapest incarnation of Dracula yet. Whoever's idea it was to give him an almost undodgeable attack that kills you in 1 hit was a retard.
-
Dude what. Aria is the best GBA Castlevania what are you talking about man!! The lost boss isn't even that bad you're just a pussy.

agreed, chaos was a sick last boss, it was so fuckin cool :D, the worst dracula fight in CV history was in simons quest.....
I dont exactly count chaos as a dracula boss too much, more or less graham was more of a dracula-ish boss
I mean look,
First Form: (http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/3130/grahamjg1.gif) (http://imageshack.us)
Looks similar to a dracula, just with a white suit :P
Final Form: (http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/6488/graham2ny1.gif) (http://imageshack.us)
Looks like a dracula beast form to me :O
Chaos...: (http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/2959/chaos2yl0.gif) (http://imageshack.us)
...does not even look like a dracula beast form, its still badass!
Edit: In case some of you are wondering, the whole room IS chaos, not just the skeleton dragon :P
-
i dont remember chaos being very hard? what was his one hit kill attack?
-

its not that its one hit, most of his attacks just hurt a shitload and unless you have like over 700 hp then you could easily die in one hit
-
I remember it being the other way around; I'm pretty sure I killed Chaos in one hit. Maybe it was like 2 or 3 but still, he didn't pose much of a threat at all.
-

Yeah, this is true. The button reaciton time on action games is just too bad most of the time on cell phones, but if time's not a factor they can come off okay.
-
Eh, I have seen alot of decent cellphone games. Especially when I don't have to actually pay for them...
-
I played Castlevania (original) and ActRaiser on my phone and it was utter shit. Navigating and attacking were too difficult.
Also, my friend had some Castlevania game that was for mobile phones only and it was horrid. I doubt this will be any better

Actually, I'm thinking Circle of the Moon (the one with the gay ass cards) and Dracula took up 3/4 of the screen and summoned giant meteors which covered the over 1/4 of the screen. Once you whittled him down, he started zooming back and forth and getting hit would kill you almost instantly.
-
i have guitar hero on my phone its not too bad

CotM was not bad neither.
Anyway, I bought AoS mobile for shitz n giggles i am happy to say the controls dont suck, a step higher than CV:Mobile's together with especially better than Order of the Shadows(more like order of the sh*t). in addition, the FPS is conveniently fine, i found no slowdown so far(im up to the manticore) with the music is fine too
-
This game doesn't look bad, but I don't think it'll be any better than most other mobile games. It's at least better than Order of Shadows.
