I am sick of March Madness.
Granted, I am not much of a television watcher myself, but one cannot watch network television in the latter half of the month of March. Hell.. you can't watch half of the cable networks without running into Basketball. The amount of coverage the tournament gets in amount of air-hours is incredible. I don't know if it is the most watched sports contest in North America overall, but I can guarantee it is the most obnoxious one. Not only do we get to watch an incredible amount of one of the lamest sports that exists, but we also get subjected to the highest proportion of talking-head commentary per hour on television than at any other time of the year. No matter what sport you deal with, these commentators are going to be involved, but basketball is notorious for bringing in washed-up crackpots that no one cares about and we all have to deal with. These are certifiable facts people. My polling and statistical work is more accurate than Gallup.

Not only is Basketball and Basketball programming lame, but so are all the news programs and talk shows that follow the tournament's cindarella stories and "mid-major" triumphs. Its all hogwash my friends, don't get inundated with the sensationalized life stories... but then its easy to avoid. Just keep your television turned off in the month of March. That said, cheers to the morons who have 95% correct brackets, and cheers to Euro 2008 getting no television coverage in the United States except on 1 channel. Enough of my plodding along, lets hear how you guys feel about March Madness and other mass marketed sports television events.

heh.. nice poll. I like the gw music no one knows about reference.
Anyways it is like March 28 so this is kind of late!!??

well they're just now coming down to who is in the final four I believe
its difficult at my house to ignore this shit cause my dad actually played in the NCAA tournament for the University of Minnesota so he gets really into it and all his friends come over and they take over the house for thursday evening, friday evening, all day saturday and most of the day sunday for 2 or 3 weekends straight and it really gets on my nerves after a while... because I cant sit there and watch it because it is so painfully boring. and then theres the additional programming between games where they highlight individual players and give a sappy shit sentimentalist story so you can follow the player through the game and shit but its really just a clever marketing technique to get the oprah crowd to watch basketball and thus feed more money into the tournament so some old fart can snort lines of coke off a cheerleader's ass when all the shit goes down in the end
so I get overexposed to this shit and I am pretty sick of it heh

man march madness is really cool if you like following college basketball at all. unfortunately i DO NOT but the whole bracket system is pretty neat, particularly when you see the obscure schools upset the juggernaut schools
also tv sports analysts and commentators are some of the most worthless creatures on the planet. this is true for ALL SPORTS. they're almost as utterly valueless as the players themselves, but that's a different discussion
note: sports are only interesting in moderation. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS. i kinda like the brackets, but i'd feel like you do if i had a halfdozen people watching every fucking game at my house. there is a finite amount(see: very small) of dick vitale you can stomach before your face explodes

WSU has failed their state
i really don't follow any sports, but i watch it on the news anyway, if any thing i just watch for local college teams, and some of the clips i saw were pretty cool

I do not know what is fun about watching ten foot tall black men sweating all over each other as they throw balls at small hoops.
I will stick with my grand prix racing, thank you very much.

watching basketball is just a white man's apologetic way of saying "i really DO like black people, honest!"
-
Woah, I just realized that I haven't even NOTICED March Madness this year. Maybe it's because I really haven't watched much TV at all this entire month. This is the first time this has happened (guess I survived!).
-
HAHAHHA oh man you rated cricket above basketball, batty english men throwing balls at each other above people slam dunking... hmmm.
-
It did allow for one of the greatest games of mankind to be created...
But, yeah, it gets pretty damn annoying. A lot of people in my school have brackets and whatnot, so whenever they're talking about it I just enter the conversation and throw in some college names with 'upset', 'final four', and 'alley-oop'. They never catch on.

So am I too late to join the basketball haters club?
Obviously it has it's flaws as most sports do. Contrary to that expectation, basketball in general is quite exciting especially when the games matters MOST (playoffs, key games before playoffs, finals, etc).
I know we're mostly talking about march madness here but some people derailed the topic all together and generalized everything to like... Basketball. I haven't even watched march madness this year because I don't have much free time. I still like March Madness though, it's fun sometimes. It's sort of like a spin-off of a good series or something. Some games can even be much more exciting then the NBA games.
It sounds more like you're watching too much of it WC... Maybe you should just go outside or something until it's over :D.
