Title: GamingW merges with RMXP.org [news] [gw6]

The GamingW.net administration together with RMXP.org administration have finalized a merger agreement, becoming "RMXPw.org" after a long series of discussion. The decision didn't come easy, contrary to expectation we feel that the merger of the two biggest sites for RPG Making can only provide good things for our communities.

GamingW6 will continue being worked on by leafo, with some minor adjustments that will be outlined below:
-The name of the site is now RMXP World.org
-There will be no RPG Maker 2000/2003 section, as we have decided to only support the future of RPG making.
-The forums will be merged between the two sites, allowing posters from both sites to fully enjoy each other's company.

The new forums (which will slowly take these changes over time, as we get to them) will include the following setup:

RMXP.org sponsorships will carry over to Premium Accounts on GamingW.

in addition, the administration will be changing to the following:
From GamingW:
-ramirez
-DragonSlayer
-Bart

From RMXP.org:
-Despain
-TREG
-Teloch

Both sides feel that this change in administration, keeping only the admins who provide the most to the community, will let this new merged site grow as fast as it possibly can, without being bogged down by the ones who don't do as much. These changes will be slowly taking place over the next few days.

RMXPw.org's objective is to maintain together with provide a healthy, friendly (yet mature) community of friends who all share a vested interest in the future of (legal) RPG Making. RPG Maker 2000 together with 2003 will not be allowed on the site in any form, including discussion/pictures/demos/full games/movies/etc of either program. These two programs have slowed down our progress, making people turn a blind eye to the future of RPG Making as we know it: RMXP together with RMVX. These 2 legal programs will be the only programs supported at the new RMXPw.org, as we feel that dedicating a vested interest in showing Enterbrain we care by giving them our money together with hard work, is the only way we can truly advanced together with become a real RPG Maker community. We will pave the way to the future of legal RPG Making!

As such, all non-RMXP/RMVX games will be wiped clean from Game &
D
emo before it becomes "RMXP/RMVX Project Discussion" over the next 30 days. We hope you understand this needed adjustment. Make sure to back up your projects topics so you can take them elsewhere.

I think it's safe to say this at this point, we've been developing GW6 using SMF 1.1 together with its SSI, Server Side Include, module. Basically this means that our current GW6 code base is pretty much compatible with what the guys at the RMXP.org have at the moment. I'm writing a script to merge the databases, together with it's already pretty functional. It can merge members while remaining the referential IDs across the database together with their external applications such as the supporter system together with pubaccess. What is currently not done is a complete merge of our category together with forum structure, which really is the trickiest part. However most if not all posts will remain intact together with no data will be lost, including things like private messages, user preferences, etc.

I've in addition been testing SMF 2.0 extensively for the past couple of weeks, together with after its out of its public beta we'll definitely migrate RMXP World to it, as its feature set is much more rich than current SMF generation's. However due to the structural changes in the database hierarchy as well as the new modularity oriented software layer that it provides, it will most likely take some time to research together with upgrade the forums when the time comes, as the new RMXPW.org site currently relies on what's provided by the SMF 1.1 API.

Anyway, the migration is progressing nicely together with if things go as I think they will go, we'll be ready to launch the new community forums (together with hopefully something else too Naughty) within few days.

As much as am I all for change in the community, this is the only thing I'm a bit confused on, are you saying that now all rm2k3 & rm2k projects must now stop? Because the program is too old and we must embark the wave of the future which is RMXP or RMVX?

What a load of crap! So many people STILL (like me!) are working on projects using the old engines, and still a handful of people prefer this then the other makers! I think you should be open to games of ALL types, but I do agree on supporting RMXP & RMVX mainly seeing how it's the main and latest enterbrain programs to be released, but have some sense! EVERYTHING IS WELCOME!!! No matter how old or new they may be!

I love Rm2k3! I wouldn't switch for another 100 years if I would. Maybe one day...but not now.

Okay, here's a question then. If the game I'm making doesn't require the software and it's all jazzy up will you ban me for life or support it.

I'm dying to know this.

Because I REFUSE to quit just because a bunch of mods decided to shake hands and laugh over a exciting new wave of the future.

Sorry. We're removing the old and moving on with the new. There are ways to transfer your projects to the RMXP format. It has been decided RPG Maker 2003 games are out of date, out of order, out of luck.

But most of the patches won't work in RMXP!!! You can't play 4 players on XP, you can't have custom intros, you can't do any of that crap when you transfer over!!!

Nobody says you cannot make your game but RPG Maker 2003 games posted on this site and RMXP.org will be prohibited. You will have to find another site to host your game. Perhaps Ghostlight?

Okay!

So what I shall do is continue making my game with rm2k3.

Finish it, and then convert it over to XP.

Now...hoping that this WILL work, hopefully all the patches such as Power Mode will transfer over to RMXP. If that's the case then alrighty that's not so bad...I can still make my games then transfer it to XP when it's finished.

HOWEVER!!! If that doesn't work, or you need to learn RGSS then I guess I'll be out of luck. But at the same time I'm not starting over or hitting the internet to learn RGSS and waste another 7 months of my life learning how to do that.

I guess WHAT I can do is post a link on my sig or something...or find another way around it...

Either way maybe this change won't be so bad.  :)

We may allow them initially, but eventually they are going away. We only care about the future of RPG Making.

By forcing people to embrace RMXP and RMVX, we also force them to support Enterbrain, the people who make our great RPG Maker series. And with the more support + hard work we display to them, the bigger and better the future of RPG Making will be.


RPG Maker 2000 + 2003 have already lowered the amount of support XP+VX deserve, thus causing us to lose our precious sample games. Hell, XP got seasonal RTP tilesets released in Japan for free, we didn't get anything. If 2k(3)ers would of bought and supported us, this wouldn't of been the case.

Listen - if you all do not get it, WE ARE PHASING OUT THE OLD RPG MAKERS. Any game or screenshot posted that has been made with the RPG Maker 2003 engine will NOT BE ALLOWED on the forums. Your RPG Maker 2003 games CAN be converted to RMXP format.

Sphere and Game Maker will be allowed temporarily but we are trying to phase those out too.

You shouldn't mislead the new transferees; I've never heard of a way to import RM2k3 games into RMXP. It's going to be a discontinuation plain and simple, unless of course I've missed some new development in the community.

Wasn't there also some issue with transferring/merging users who joined during October that never got resolved in the codebase of the Forums?  I mean, it's a small sacrifice and I think everyone will benefit in the end.  Those people will just have to sign up again and earn their posts again.

Also, I think we should have RM95 back into the scene.  Seeing as how RMVX looks really similar to 95, I don't see why not.  I think we could really push that maker again.  But definitely need to get rid of 2K/2K3.

My game is a collection of polaroids of various carvings I made in rocks in my back yard.

The player looks at these polaroids & imagines a scenario involving the different monsters in the carvings & makes up his own adventure.  It's very interactive.  Not even Morrowind can touch my game's non-linearity.

Would that still be allowed?

I for one think this is a good idea.  RM2k/3 is dying, anyway.

One question though: are there any plans for merging with other sites in the future, such as RMN, Ghostlight, Township Games and IGP?  I think that it would be great!

It isn't communism, if it was communism we would be forcing you to all be of equal talent, etc. You're still going to have people who are very talented, together with people who aren't, together with you're still going to have world exclusive sneak preview/full game/preview/trailers/screenshots/etc. Nothing here is changing, except our focus to pave the way for the future of RPG Making by only allowing RMXP/RMVX. If you can't accept that, then I question your loyalty as a true RPG Maker, as advancing the series, A-N-D thus what we can do later on, is more important. What better way to show Enterbrain we care? We'll show them our massive community.

We'll show them how much we care about their hard work, by supporting legal RPG Makers.

This also shouldn't stop people who make rm2k3 games either! There will always be room for the middle ground. And who knows...this is probably for the best.

We can still post screenshots and offer downloads on other sites.

Actually in some ways...thanks gamingw! You've now forced me to get back to making a website to host my game.

So in someways this could be kinda of cool!

Actually now I'm getting excited!

1.) New Forum!
2.) Hopfully a new site soon!
3.) Silver gets to make a website again!
4.) Might in addition be possible to convert game to XP, which could be even better!
5.) Still gets to make A R E N A either way!

YAY!  ​

EDIT: DA PLAN:

1.) Finish game like normal using rm2k3!
2.) Make a MURRAY ENTERPRISE website to host game & other projects!
3.) try and convert to XP.

IF IT WORKS:
* Post game on gamingw.net!

IF NOT:
* game will still be able to download on website in 2k3 version. (which you don't even need the program for!)

4.) Play around with VX or XP demo trails.
5.) Think about next project.

6.) Buy program if considering continuing making projects
7.) THE NEXT WAVE BEGINS!!!

So in a way me like! I guess A R E N A will be my final rm2k3 project before switching over!

Last post I make on this topic:

I now think this is a good idea, yeah this did catch me off guard a little. (Well I was eating lunch and working on my game when I saw this...so yeah...) This doesn't mean YOU can't work on rm2k3 games, it's just now you either have to make a website to host them or go somewhere else to post them. Which isn't a bad thing...your game if it's alright will still be played by not only people from gamingw.net but everywhere else! (so more traffic!)  ​

And we can still post and chat with everybody on the new board! It's just...it must be about RMVX or RMXP. Which is okay!

This is also bonus for me! Cause I get back to making a website again...something I've wanted to do ever since I had to close Claude Is A Jerk back in 03...now I can to host my projects!

Also! I think it might be finally time to switch to VX or XP (I'm looking more at VX then anything) it's been more then 5 years since I switched from RM2000 to RM2003 and at first it was different, but afterawhile I liked it.

I'm just drooling over the next batch of games from me and other people! *drrrooooolllls* I'm starting to like this even more!

Therefore, A R E N A will be my final rm2k3 project. Which is good! because this sort of ends the legacy of rm2k and rm2k3 in one last final battle. Against each other.

Who knows! Maybe we'll see a lot of these characters again in VX or XP!  ​

Gamingw.net mods are gods! ^^

(Not to mention: YOU CAN STILL POSTS RM2k & Rm2k3 links of your games on your sigs!!! They can't stop you from doing that!)

It's not that RPG Maker 2000/2003 are bad programs, they're just holding back very much of people from supporting Enterbrain, together with thus helping nurture the RPG Maker series as a whole.

There wasn't any humour or cleverness to it, and it was way too obvious to work as a GOTCHA!!! type thing (except with DUDESOFT apparently). The fact it was spur of the moment kills it because I could only see this working with a bit of buildup.

Granted, and I understand maybe the joke itself isn't funny or clever per se (well, that's all opinion), but I think if you check the .org thread, and even some of the replies here, there's some people who believed it just because there was stuff for it. It happens.


It was also fun to see how RMXP.org thought about us. LoL.


I think personally though, that maybe a joke that wasn't too good-but-slightly-fun for some people, is still better than no joke at all, no?

I actually think the merge would be a good idea. Just don't do the whole 'get rid of the old makers'. It seems like of the admins from RMXP come here etc. Why not just merge the two sites to get more traffic for both of us. I mean the RMXP stuff here is pretty dead, so it would allow gamingw members to get involved in more RMXP games without leaving home.

Plus they then replied to the spawning topics in Q&A and G&D, and the replies became much more sarcastic and obviously untruthful. They should have just ignored all of that and stuck with this.

ALSO jesus christ the people at the other site suck. I read some random posts and it's one of those :SMILIE: ITS OK WE LUV U *HUGGLES* forums. That shit is terrible. the irc chatlogs from their channel are hilarious.

A lot of their members think we hate them because they probably went here and got yelled at because we aren't cutesy and so are spreading lies pretty much
