Are you a SEGA fan? Did you own a Dreamcast, and go ‘shucks’ when it died in the shadows of Sony and Microsoft? Think back to those days. Think further back if you care to, or even recall those fond SEGA games at the local arcade.
Sonic, House of the Dead, Chu Chu Rocket, Golden Axe, NiGHTS, Space Channel 5, Samba de Amigo, Outrun, Virtua Cop…
They were fun times. Now they’re back, in a way. The form of SEGA Superstars Tennis.
It feels like Virtua Tennis with mega attacks, and it’s got several mini-games. All these mini-games feature you hitting your tennis ball at something, yet somehow this is kept fresh.

To explain the power attack; pretty simple. There’s a star beneath the characters that fills up as they successfully hit the ball, or score a point. When the star is full and sparking lines of seemingly electricity the player can enter this power attack mode. (IE; Sonic turns into Super Sonic) and when they hit the ball, it does something jazzy (IE: Super Sonic’s ball goes in one direction, as if going that way, and at the net turns to its true destination). The power-up mode happens once or twice a set usually, and while it sounds annoying, it’s not. After you know the special attack features, you can pretty well keep the ball in play without much pain

This is definitely a party game if you and your friends are SEGA fans, and I’d only recommend it TO a SEGA fan. If you don’t give a rats ass about Jet Set Radio, Alex Kidd, or Super Monkey Ball, then this game is probably not for you. Those of us who simply loved Sonic, Samba de Amigo, and Space Harrier; you may want to spend the small cost of this game.
I’ve yet to grow tired of this game, and Samba de Amigo’s stage songs thrill me.

The only reason I want to play this game is so I can be Beat from JSR again. You know, there was a pitch for a new Jet Set Radio title for the wii, but it didn't happen. Doesn't anyone else think the wii is the perfect console for that shit?

^ yea you could use wii-mote as a spray can!! It would be pretty cool otherwise too.

I saw this in motion and all the animations are really off.. It looked like the impact of ball hitting the racket is missing. Tennis ball is just floating there. I think this uses the engine of Virtua Tennis which is quite a big plus though. don't know that many of these characters so I've got no intentions of buying this.

Also reeks Mario Tennis very very much.

Dude! It's the Samba De Amigo guy!

That game was way better than Guitar Hero or Donkey Konga will ever be.

I'll stick with Mario Tennis.

Tried a demo of this on the 360. Found it... unappealing.

Damn, I forgot the absolute most important thing of all:

Each Court, equipt with the music you unlock, is specifically designed to fit the game it's from. The intro music, the area around the Court, the sound effects, the victory screen...

EG: Sonic's level has the typical stage complete music at the end of a match. Jet Set Radio, has this hip very base-thumping intro with the sound effects etc...
If there's ever a timer, for a minigame or such, the lettering/numbering is in the world style. If you hit up Virtua Cop, ! Space Harrier...

If you like Mario Tennis, and SEGA isn't on your list of games to play, stick with Mario Tennis; as I pretty much said in the original post. This is totally a fan service game. SEGA Superstars Tennis ranks #1 on my fan service charts. Right above Chocobo Racing.
