Title: New Forum Tags [forums]
Post by: reko on April 07, 2008, 04:00:38 pm
Two new forum tags have been added for mp3 songs and youtube videos. The tags are mp3 and youtube, respectively.

[mp3]http://link.to/your.mp3[/mp3]
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID[/youtube]

For youtube videos you can simply copy/paste the URL from the video page inside the tag.

Here's an example of how the mp3 embed looks (the song is by Drule courtesy to his idea of adding a mp3 tag).

[mp3]http://tunez.drule.net/kickass4.mp3[/mp3]

And here's how the youtube videos look like (shameless self promoting of a little project I was working on a few months ago)

That is all!

Gets rid of one of the premium perks, but well worth it. Nice job, rami.

rami I command you to work on that thing again, whatever it was. There is potential for awesomeness there, especially if you'd add internet/LAN/TCP-IP capabilities.

imo these should definitely be premium only (can you make forum tags premium only???)

why? they don't start autoplaying and if a topic was to lag because it has to load a few extra tags its probably worth it for convenience.

Forum tags can be premium only (dohtml for example), but I don't want to do that for these. The mp3 nor the youtube video won't start to load before you click play so there's no need to limit these.

I was just saying for an incentive to buy premium is all. Not because they are annoying or because people will abuse them.

Premiums already get enough perks. I doubt that these tags would make anyone consider premium much more worth. In the contrary it'd probably have a negative effect and look like we're making important features unavailable for normal people because we're greedy for premiums <insert argument whether these are important features or not here />.

Do you think you could make it so that clicking on the video takes you to the youtube page, kind of like regular dohtml youtube imbedding would do? Sometimes it is useful to see related youtube videos and stuff and hilarious comments

Could you add a loop or replay feature to the mp3s?
I could listen to that first song all day long. :}

Also I can't seem to scroll while hovering over either of these. Is this intended? :(

Not with this player, no. It's not coded by me so I can't make it so that clicking on the video takes you there. And making the whole embed clickable would mean that clicking on the play etc. would take you there too.

I thought people would rather not have looping on.

It's flash, so yes. Whenever a flash object is active all the keyboard/mouse events goes to the embed, not to the browser.

Looks like the nagging paid off...

Can't you put a link below the embed?

I don't think this ruins a prem incentive at all

think of it this way:

Non-prem:
Youtube tag, which doesn't take you to the vid, only supports youtube, etc.

Prem:
dohtml lets you embed any vid even not from youtube, and you can click on it too, etc.

the dohtml embedding owns the youtube tag, but, its still a good tag but i think most prems would basically just use the dohtml embedding imo
