Oyes, oyes, honorable Judge Sarevok presiding all rise.
The process of voir dire will now begin.
(Traditionally, voir dire takes place out of the public's eyes. However, the jury, judge, prosecution, and defense can all hear what's going on. Since I don't feel like asking for another forum, this will also take place in the public's eyes. This means only the people that are about to be listed in bold can post).
This is the voir dire process for RPG vs GZ. RPG is represented by bazookatooth, GZ is represented by angry black man. The Judge is Sarevok. The following is the jury pool:
Dada
Ralph
BobJustBob
Man-O-War
the_hoodie
Eric
Dark Angel
holloway
Beasley
Catslacks
Velfarre
DarkNecrid
Shinpokomon
Afura
Juris
TREG
Lord Typhoon
Finality
Jurors Inri Cheetos and Verridian are excused from jury duty, having not fulfilled the requirements of the jury selection questionnaire, and are dismissed from the court room.
The prosecution will go first with questions. You cannot lie during these questions, please do the best you can to answer them. After the prosecution, the defense will ask questions. At no point during the voir dire can you speak except when addressed by myself, the judge, or the two attorneys. Please refrain from idle chatter.
(In the event that a lawyer says objection; do NOT answer the question until the judge has posted. If the judge has sustained the objection, you CANNOT answer the question asked. If the judge has overruled, you must answer the question).
The process of voir dire will last until the defense has asked their questions.
(In a real court room, this process is more tightly regulated; you cannot eliminate a race from the jury pool for instances, or a gender. There's all sorts of shit that just doesn't apply here, considering some jurors are underage or not citizens).
If there are any questions, please address them to myself or the judge in private (via PM). Do not disrupt the voir dire process unless you feel uncomfortable with the question being asked in which case you may ask to be excused.

Ralph, I noticed you mentioned in the questionnaire that "it's just terrible knowing it happens," in reference to sexual deviancy. What, specifically, strikes you as being so terrible about sexual deviancy, and would you consider all parties guilty of it equally terrible, or perhaps, some more or less terrible than others?
And Lord Typhoon, I just wanted a bit of clarification concerning one of your answers. You understand that sexual deviancy entails more than things like rape and pedophilia, correct? Your answer seemed to almost imply a different definition of what qualifies as sexual deviance, and I think it's important to establish that the term includes acts that aren't necessarily illegal or commonly accepted as immoral.
-
Why am I excused? Can I sue for racism or something like that?

you are removed from the courtroom, please do not post again. if you have an issue, speak to the judge or bailiff in private
(in real life, this would result in Inri Cheetos's arrest)

I did believe that sexual deviance refered to strange sexual orientation and tastes, of which the biggest in the past would've been homosexuality. But since homosexuality is pretty much approved now, I refrained from using that as an example. I am no homophobe, though.
But I do realize I was sort-of wrong about my beliefs of what sexual deviance meant, and I do realize it is much more vague than what I believed previously and also engulfs behavior that while not illegal, may appear as unusual. I will keep this very closely in mind whenever the topic of sexual deviance is mentioned in the future.

In the end, I feel sorry for the people who suffer under it. When the question arised, I answered it regarding sexual deviancy itself, not the people with sexual deviancy. I excuse myself for my bad choice of words when filling in the questionnaire.
I would not consider every party guilty of it equally terrible, this will rely completely on exactly what it is that happened.

Alright. Juris, you answered two of the questions on the questionnaire with unusual certainty. Could you explain a little further why you would a) be so hesitant to sign a petition allowing your close friend and neighbor to continue residing in the neighborhood, and b) disapprove of the sexual education courses in school so wholeheartedly?
-
just a clarifying statement; Juris is a member. it is not the plural of jury.
yes this came up...
-
1.) Having been convicted of child molestation, my friend is a proven danger to the local neighborhood. Because my brothers (and their friends, et al) are minors, I will naturally hesitate in keeping him nearby.
2.) I feel that making students aware of 'alternative sex practices' such as 'group orgies' would intrude upon family moral institution. By attacking these familial bonds, kids will be more inclined to pursue such practices -- at an age where their mistakes can easily harm themselves and others. The public school ought to ensure students' safety before all.

I don't get it, Lord Typhoon and Man-O-War are just alternate accounts for DarkNecrid, or did you not know that.
Hey, peanut gallery: not only are you wrong, but you aren't even supposed to be posting here! Please don't do it again! The only reason the voir dire is open to the public is so you all get to see it, not so you can comment on it. I'm fine with getting a subforum where no one can see anything and then posting what happened later!

Alright, I was under the conception that Marcus could come in whenever, so I apologize. I'm done here, so you can HAVE AT, Marcus.
-
Ladies and gentleman of the jury, please remain seated.
Defense attorney angry black man, you have the floor.
-
Thank you, Baliff.
Mr. Ralph, in your own words please (as in no quoting dictionaries here) what is your definition of "sexual deviancy?"
Shinpokomon, you answered with a "5" in regards to your convicted sex offender friend moving in to your neighborhood. Could you please elaborate why you're so quick to sign their papers knowing he's a convicted criminal?
Mr. Dada, I address the same question above to you as well.
Man-o-war, this question may sound silly but in your own words what is your definition of 'harm?'
Mr. Eric, you consider yourself a "straight foward fella and nothing out of the ordinary flies with you." What do you consider to be "out of the ordinary?"
-
Pretty much anything besides a man loving a woman is out of the ordinary to me. I have no problem with homosexuality and stuff, but molestation and rape are definitely illegal for good reason. I would even go so far as to say bondage and the other weird legal stuff is out of the ordinary, for me anyways. Those are the things you gotta keep away from the kids, or who knows what tomorrow'll be like.
-
Sexual abuse (i.e. rape or molestation) can cause so much psychological damage to an adult that it can affect their relationships with family, friends and anyone they interact with in terms of trust, or being comfortable around other people. An adult would understand or be more aware that they have been violated in such an intimate manner than a child would be. A child is still in the early stages of developing their understanding of relationships with other people, whether they are peers or adults. And as a child, the adults you interact with most are people you are meant to trust and respect, such as teachers, doctors and relatives, this can cause severe problems with trusting anyone, much like a child that has been bitten by a dog and becomes scared of all dogs. This can affect what a child perceives as right or wrong, as everything a child learns or experiences is internalised and serves as their foundation for their understanding of society. In essence, the repercussions of being molested as a child may be felt for the rest of their lives, damaging future relationships and interactions with people.
So yeah, I definitely view molestation, especially child molestation as one of the worst crimes you can commit, and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way. I wouldn't hesitate to sign a petition in compliance with sexual predator awareness laws even if it was a friend or neighbour simply to protect the children of the neighbourhood through deterring a convicted sex offender from re-offending because of raised awareness, and so that parents can take the steps they feel appropriate for keeping their children safe.
-
To forcibly cause physical or psychological damage.
-
Mr. Ralph, in your own words please (as in no quoting dictionaries here) what is your definition of "sexual deviancy?"
Sexual deviancy is basically that you get turned on by things out of the ordinary, like children, for example.
-
Shinpokomon, you answered with a "5" in regards to your convicted sex offender friend moving in to your neighborhood. Could you please elaborate why you're so quick to sign their papers knowing he's a convicted criminal?
Mr. Dada, I address the same question above to you as well.
The reason why I am not hesitant to sign such a petition is because I believe that serving time is a sufficient retribution for one's crimes, and that people should be allowed to have a second chance. If I were hesitant, would that not imply a lack of appreciation for the U.S. system of justice and the punishment it gave this person? I think that discouraging someone from starting anew is akin to vigilantism. That's why I have no problem with signing such a piece of paper.

No further questions... or the defense rests. Whatever the proper terminology is (defense rests sounds cooler)
-
angry black man, bazookatooth; pm Sarevok and myself your three eliminations. if they match, we'll deal with it.
after they do, check this topic for the jury list.
-
The jury list is as follows:
Dada
BobJustBob
Man-O-War
the_hoodie
Dark Angel
holloway
Beasley
Velfarre
DarkNecrid
Shinpokomon
Afura
TREG
The rest are dismissed.
As members of the jury, you are prohibited from speaking to anyone about this trial until the deliberation period, including your fellow jurors.
(note: in real life, jurors do tend to talk to each other and hash over parts of the case. it's not that big of a deal. however, if the lawyers or judge see you, you're going to be asked to leave the case)
If any member of the defense team or the prosecution speaks to you or harasses you, PLEASE notify the judge IMMEDIATELY.
(this is a big deal btw: you are NOT to speak to angry black man or bazookatooth. in this case, we'll limit it to about the trial since I'm sure you'll read posts and maybe run into each other on IRC. but you can't be bribed or whatever!)
The trial will commence soon, court is adjourned for now.
(I still have to write up a lot of stuff, but I'll see if I can get it done before the weekend is up, and we can get started. this topic can be locked now! I will PM everyone involved when the new topic is up)

Magical Negro just wanted to let you guys know that he's in the middle of exams right now and won't be able to launch this whole thing until exams are over!
