Alright so this thread is all about concerts! Which concerts have you recently attended? What did you think of those concerts? Which concerts are you going to attend soon? Basically this is the place to talk about concerts.
So I will start.
I am going to attend two concerts in May. The first of that being Progressive Nation, featuring Dream Theater, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, and 3. I am really fucking pumped for this one as Between the Buried and Me is pretty much my favourite band right now. Though that is not to take away from how awesome the other three bands are. This is going to be an excellent concert!
The second one is Gigantour, with Megadeth, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Job for a Cowboy, and High on Fire. I am really only going to this one for Megadeth and In Flames. I hate Children of Bodom, and I have never heard of the other two bands.
I would attend Arch Enemy and Iron Maiden, but I am seriously lacking in the money department. So
Now, it's your turn!
-
I saw the Mars Volta in January and i am seeing Lou Reed the 26th!
last year i saw Eric Clapton and RHCP
-
This topic again!
The most recent concert I attended to was Porcupine Tree in December. I haven't been to many concerts and PT was definitely the best one I have been to, because they put up a really good live show, were just really cohesive and the sound was fantastic, plus the setlist was really good.
I'm still not sure which concert the next one is going to be. Boris are playing here next month and Incubus in June but I'm not sure if I'm going to see either of them. If festivals count, I might go to a festival or two because some good bands are playing here this year (PT, Opeth, Oceansize, The National, Interpol, Meshuggah, Converge, Cult of Luna, Mogwai and some more).
-
Hmm. I go to concerts quite often, but they're normally pretty small bands.
Last monday I attended a small concert with 'Scary Kids Scaring Kids', 'Drop Dead Gorgeous'
and 'Everytime I die' (All emocore). It was alright, though it's not my kind of music. On that
same note, I went to see Atreyu a few months ago as well.
June 19th there's a gig starring my favorite performer, Miyavi. It's the first time he's playing
in this part of the world, so I'm pretty psyched. Tickets were a wee bit expensive though.
April 25th there's a gig called London Calling around here, and as you can imagine it'll be a
big emo / britpop fest. The only reason I'm going is because the Ting Tings are playing.
Finally, I might or might not go to the Avril Lavigne concert end May. I think I'll pass.
-
The most recent concert I went to was Future Of The Left last sunday, and it was deeply, deeply awesome. I arrived fairly drunk, since I killed time beforehand at the pub next door, and the place was pretty empty, and who did I see at the merch booth but Andy Falkous(!!!) (singer/guitarist of FOTL and Mclusky). So I wandered up to him and awkwardly initiated a conversation by pretty much shrieking "MAN YOUSE GUYS ARE THE BEST BAND EVER I LOVE YOUR RECORDS MCLUSKY DO DALLAS TOTALLY FUCKING RULED" right into his face. He was cool though, and I got to chat to him for a while before the show started. So, yeah, that was pretty much the highlight of my year. The gig was great, too!
-
Last show I saw was Kiss as you already know from my smashing pumpkins topic.
Anyway, Children Of Bodom are coming here and I guess I should go but I'm really not as excited about them as I used to be.
When Tool come again you can bet your ass I will be the first person in line for a ticket. Greatest shows ever.
I wish some good hiphop would come to New Zealand :(, I've never been to a good rap concert other than Lupe and Spank Rock. I'd also like to go to a real cool electronic gig, DAFT PUNK PERHAPS STOP SKIPPING NZ ON YOUR TOURS HMMMM?
-
this summer gonna see stuff like goldfrapp, m.i.a., radiohead (altho i dont care about this!!), slayer...
.
whatever else is comin to roskilde i dont have the overview :(
anyway i havent really been to any concerts since last years roskilde but i saw basement jaxx there which was really really cool
-
wellllllll I was going to go see the mars volta tomorrow but I had to sell my ticket because the place that I work is hosting a wedding and I kinda have to be there heh
and I'm hoping I can go see the driveby truckers on may 7 or whenever it is that they're coming to columbus
-
I've only been to a very small amount of concerts. I saw Jefferson Starship when they came to my hometown last year (we have this small fucking festival thing in a town no one knows and somehow we magically get like...JOAN JETT and stuff...except I didn't see her because I was really sick at the time and barely made it through Starship who I mainly wanted to see). Sometime before or after that I saw the Doobie Brothers with my parents which was pretty cool. Those are the only two real concerts I can remember going to ever. I'm planning on seeing Basshunter if/when he does his U.S. tour, but I haven't heard any more about it so I have no idea when or what states he's doing it.
-
Most of the concerts I go to are classical shows because I'm a loser and I don't like loud noise and cigarettes!
Aside from various performances at my unversity the last two memorable shows I've been to were Joshua Bell and Marc Mellits.
Joshua Bell is a virtuoso violinist and there's much else to say about that other than that he is a virtuoso! He played a bunch of masterpieces the way they are supposed to be played and had some impressive solos.
Marc Mellits I saw at my university, and most of the performers were either students or faculty members. It was the debut of some new music of his that the university had comissioned as well as an hour and a half of the rest of his music. I was super excited because Mellits is one of my favorite composers. I had a short conversation afterwards where I mentioned to him that he has a profound impact on my music and he laughed at me saying, "Well that can't be good. I'm very sorry about that!" and I wasn't sure whether to be offended or not. I was pretty drunk at the time.
The last rock show I went to was Flaming Lips last winter and holy crap it was amazing. Seeing the Flaming Lips play live is a little bit like experiencing what exactly it would be like to be a wizard.
-
Been to loads, though mostly small local bands.
Some that stand out would be Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones, Porcupine Tree, The Wildhearts (twice now) and Mike Park (who runs Asian Man Records, so that was pretty cool).
Got Leeds coming up where i'm prioritising Rage Against The Machine and Slipknot (I'm genuinely pumped to see Slipknot). That festival has a habit of getting better bands on smaller stages though, so i'm hoping for some gems there.
-
Hmm... The most recent ones I went to were Houston Calls (twice), and then I saw Between the Trees with Mae... I'm going to see Fall Of Troy tomorrow, and then Minus The Bear on monday.
-
last concert that I attended was August Burns Red, Every Time I Die, From First To Last (horrible), The Human Abstract, and The Bled.
next concerts I am attending are as follows:
april 26th: Emarosa, Catherine, and Still Remains
may 2nd: The Devil Wears Prada, Gwen Stacy, Maylene And the Sons of Disaster, and some others that I don't remember
-
Recently attended Young Knives and Long Blondes (oh Kate Jackson, stop teasing us).
Coming up, I've so far only got Leeds Fest and Radiohead at Victoria Park.
-
I saw:
Final Fantasy: Dear Friends (lol nerd)
Sigur Ros with Amiina 3 times
Amiina with Tom Brosseau as an opener
that's all for now.
-
Recently attended Apostle of Hustle, Broken Social Scene, Cat Power and Queens of the Stoneage.
I've got tickets for A Silver Mt. Zion, The Mars Volta, Feist and Death Cab for Cutie/the Stars. It's going to be awesome :)
-
Man, the Mars Volta cancelled their columbus show again on account of Cedric 'being too sick to take the stage'
fucking bullshit
-
Gonna try to see 3 at the end of may in orlando or atlanta
-
I might be going to see Ashes Divide on May 29th.
-
Last show I went to was Taste of Chaos with A7x Bullet for my valentine, Atreyu, blessthefall, some japanese abands and a local band, Before that I saw 3 inches of Blood and the Black Dahlia Murder.
Next month I might go to Gigantour, Mainly for Job for a Cowboy, and a show of I am Ghost

oh man, that sucks! what happens, do you get your money back or do they do another show or what? I hope that doesn't happen in Toronto! I've got a ticket for their May 12th show..
-
Yeah, this is twice that they've cancelled. Last time they just rescheduled... but I dont know what will happen this time heh
-
I saw A Silver Mount Zion a few weeks back, and last year.. I don't really remember, there were too many good concerts to remember; Mono(2nd time) Red Sparrowes, Shining (although the band sucks, this was an awesome show), The Locust... eh.
Got tickets for Explosions in the Sky in two weeks or something. It's going to be nice.
-
the last "big" concert i've been to was Battles in seattle. it was a good time.
i might be seeing tera melos and the fall of troy in seattle, may 26... even though i am not a huge fan of the fall of troy, i remember them putting on a good show with schoolyard heroes in the past. and tera melos is gr8

So I just fished out like 140$ for two floor tickets to the Progressive Nation show at the Tabernacle in Atlanta on the 28th of May.
3, Dream Theater, Opeth and Between the Buried and Me are playing that night
Guess I'm going with my mom because all of my faggot friends are either not gonna be home or are broke and hate my music.
Since I know there are a few GWers in the South East that like these bands and might end up going hook me up if you're gonna be there and we can meet there up or something.

Just saw Pennywise (awesome), Strung Out (decent, overrated, but loved the energy), and Authority Zero (freakin' awesome, also from my hometown). Punk rock.
-
Wow, all I can say is, Progressive Nation was the best fucking concert ever.
-
Never been to a concert but if I could see any artist perform, it would have to be one of Susumu Hirasawa's interactive shows.

Wait, how close do you live to Atlanta? I'm 30 minutes away from downtown.

i saw that dream theater show last night...it was probably the biggest musical disappointment of my life. three was just goofy, i don't know what they were doing but the singer shouldnt make noises like that, between the buried and me, i like their music, but seeing them live really made me realize how much of a NOVELTY act they are. i didn't really enjoy it. opeth ruled, they put on an incredible show
then i saw dream theater.
oh lord.
they have this big screen projector, which plays this footage they found packed in boxes from 1992. shitty, shitty cg with shit like, A BURNING HEART FLOATING OVER A BED. it looked like an awful adventure game that noone has heard of
they kept showing pictures of their album covers mixed with this awful cg which made it seem like an infomercial. james labrie looked like a huge faggot and he definitely sounded like one. it dawned on me completely that no matter how much i used to like this band, and no matter how well these dudes play they will never write good songs. mr. petruccis tone was honestly awful and mr rudess had this fucking TERRIBLE synth piano that sounded like a preset in the first version of logic. it was one of the most embarrassing things i've seen adult men do. my friend and i made a pact to never listen to dream theater again. it won't be hard.

oh dear...
edit: did you see the same show as me? lol

Nah man, I live in NW Florida. Just driving up there to see them.

Yeah, I guess I must have. I thought it was pretty awesome though. I didn't actually see the screen at the back since I was on the side. I pretty much think the exact opposite of you. I thought Three played an excellent show, BTBAM could have been better, but meh, Opeth was incredible, and Dream Theater was just flat-out excellent. I don't know what show you saw, but the one I saw was pretty good.
I think I passed out at one point from over-heating or something.

There's never been a lot to expect from DT with their pseudo progressive rock.... or was it progressive metal?
