Has anyone read this awesome manga?
I'm really curious!
There's an online reading place but I dunno if it's allowed so I rather not show it :X
onemanga perhaps?
I haven't watched the anime but anyway, from wiki for easiest mean of explaining...
The story begins when a pair of high school students (Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato) are seemingly run over by a subway train, after saving the life of a homeless drunk who had fallen onto the tracks. Following their untimely deaths, Kei and Masaru find themselves transported — alive and well — along with a number of people who have also just died, to the interior of an unfurnished Tokyo condominium from which the Tokyo Tower may be seen - and none of them are able to leave. At one end of the room is a featureless black sphere called, "Gantz". After a short amount of time, a postwar Japanese exercise radio begins to play from the sphere. By way of green text that appears on the surface of the sphere, Gantz informs those present that their lives have ended. The following words appear on the black sphere's surface: "Your lives have ended. What you do with your new lives is entirely up to me. That's the theory, anyway."
The sphere then opens up to reveal suits that, when worn, amplify the user's attributes, such as strength, speed and agility. Along with the suits are various high-tech weapons with different uses for different situations. Next, information on the Gantz Targets appear on the surface of the sphere, shortly before the Gantz Team are transported to the location of the mission.
END
I really got into it as I really think of it as amazing! I don't know about the anime but it's still ongoing at 270 chapters. It has lots of nude girls...though... :fogetshifty:
Has anyone saw it yet?

I've read both the manga and watched the uncut version of the anime.
The manga is pretty badass and one of the few mangas I actually read. Hyperviolent, lots of female nudity, a trippy plot, ridiculous weapons and creatures make for some interesting, albeit graphic, reading! Oh yeah, that and depending on what fanslate you get, when GANTZ talks in "leet" some hilarious dialog occurs in what should be serious scenes, breaking up the nonstop violence. I haven't read all of it though as I stopped somewhere around Chapter 180.
As for the anime, don't even bother if it's not uncut. Uncut is the only way to watch or read something like GANTZ. It's pretty good and stays relatively faithful to the manga up around Chapter 85 or so, don't remember exactly. After that round, they created new characters and shoehorned a weird ending just for the anime. All in all it was decent, but the "just for the anime" scenes were pretty terrible, as was the ending.
It's cool to see that a female would get into something like GANTZ, not exactly what I'd expect due to it's extremely graphic nature! Maybe I should check out the manga again, since another 100 chapters have come out since I stopped reading. Now if only Kentarou Miura would work at that speed...

Seen the anime, read the manga, made a topic about it a short while ago.
I like some aspects (the anime was really dull until the Buddha story, where the series' pacing problems helped there due to being unbearably slow)
I stopped reading the manga when it got stupid (vampires and shit)

After reading Kaworu's topic and trying to look for the anime episodes, I ended up reading the manga online (same place you did Ness). I got really addicted to it and read all the chapters (269 at that time) in about a week. The art is great (pretty realistic compared to most manga) and the fact that the author uses digital art techniques is also cool. What I really liked about the manga were the "oh shit moments" (I can't think of a better way to write that) during the missions, particulary during the Buddha mission where that huge Buddha statue just came crashing out of the temple. All of the missions had that feeling of imminent danger, except for my least favourite mission (Oni alien mission. I just didn't find it as entertaining as the other missions).
I disliked some things though. I don't mind the fact that the manga is a little perverse, but to actually show sex scenes was a little too much. The chapters also feel a little short seeing as the panels are a little too big and that there are not much pages.

The buddha story is definately the highpoint of the series. The emotional turnaround for Kei was really nicely done as you see the guilt pile up on him. And I totally love the designs. Those harmless statues are alien killers (and then the final one is just... <3 )

Man that series is awesome :D
I don't like the sex scenes but I think it's still ok even after the Vampire chapter but I really wish the author could've done better. But hey, having Kei dead in phase 1 and the vampires on their side. I don't know what will happen next! I want to know who is the person that got 7 100 points too ^_^
And yes Buddha chapter really rocks ^_^

I was really into the manga but dropped it for some reason and haven't picked it back up since. I stopped when that Tomb Raider girl was introduced.
I've seen the anime though and SUPER SHOOTER by Rip Slyme is an awesome, awesome song.
-
I agree. It just fits so much for some reason. The opening animation really gives off the Gantz feel.

I really did like the Oni aliens part.. Wow, I really like the pyschics and the giant fighter.. They are pretty powerful. I hate it when Kei died.. He was also experienced and will powered. I hate the osaka team..

is this even good anymore? imo the 2nd phase is just bleh :throwupsmiley:
-
Its taking to long to finish one damn fight. It seems like this one has gone on forever.
-
Ah man, I hope they just kill the darn thing already T.T
It's taking too long waa!!
-
I'm surprised even Oku couldn't beat it. This mission is taking way too long.
-
I wonder what's up why they just couldn't beat the thing :(

I personally liked the Dinosaur Mission. It had a lot of "Holy shit look at how Kei is" moments.
I agree with the person that said they disliked the Osaka team, their complete asses. I also hate the turn around that Reiko pulled [Not ][/Not]. I also agree with the fact that this battle has gone on way to long, but at least their on the last one [Hopefully].
It sucks that the little kid might die and the old man. I keep expecting Kei to just suddenly appear and kick the last bosses ass and then give no explanation as to how he got there [That's ][/That's].
I hope the writer starts explaining a little about whats going on soon. I get the feeling that this is something bigger, but all we've gotten so far is this stupid "It's a game" explanation. I want to know what "Gantz" is and how is he able to do what he does. I also want to why they were choosen, is there a reason or was it pretty random? Also what about the rest of the world? Obviously there are more teams, but is it a competition between the countries like Izumi and the brat middle-schooler [God ][/God] suggested on the train before the Vampires attacked [Vampires?! ][/Vampires?! ]?

@Firestalker 5, If I remember correctly That kid has been recording what they're doing during the Gantz mission and maybe he was really planning to be free (choice number 1) so in case the guys need someone who has experience, maybe that kid could help?
The Osaka team is weird! But I can't help feeling that there must be some wide mass attack after there was this I remember Gantz or was it Izumi that was saying about End of the World is near thing

Actually it was the website that the middle schooler was writing that mentioned it, but it said this; "The world is ending, it's slowly being over run by aliens." Then their was an off comment by someone during this last mission... They said "It's really seems as if the world is ending". I would have that's not real definitive to be the reason for Gantz and why he's doing what he's doing.
This mission is taking WAY too long, but the Muscle Rider is kicking the 100-pointers ass. Too bad I'm almost positive that it's not going to work and he's going to die trying.
THIS GUY WILL NEVER DIE!!!!

I really like this comic. The artist is so good at both drawing guys and girls. The only thing I don't like about this comic is that it is so frickin' tense that I don't want to get attach to any characters anymore. Seems like the artist love to break reader's heart - -
