Post by: RaShayRitto on April 24, 2008, 04:43:29 am
So as you all might know the man you so lovingly refer to as Nem broke his beloved SG some years back. anyway fast forward to now and he has his practically dream guitar (birfday present form moi and others). so he gives me the broken one for free since its been collecting dust and i lurves me some guitar projects. in this thread and my thread on my favorite guitar forum i shall chronicle the repair of this most beautiful ax! (i loves me some SG's)

and now for PICTARS!

it's xxnemesis29xx and they're turning into the new serenity squad which is kind of disappointing because I've always found him and his brother pretty tolerable :((

oh so nemesis is in a band or something?

what kind of music do you guys play?  pretentious college angst music?  loud and annoying scream music?  deep and thought provoking yet still pretentious stream of consciousness music?

lol "serenity squad"? are they uber inactive or get too much forum worship? from some of the stories i hear and threads i've seen its the latter. then again, Nem's game is quite good (its only serious flaw is that i'm not a major boss in the game)

No, it's the opposite.

There was a forum member a few years ago named Serenity. She was a nice girl. She has a brother named Adam who joined along with her. Then her best friend from school joined, named ShinyRaccoon. And then Adam's girlfriend joined. And I believe another friend joined.

They constantly discussed real life. Which doesn't seem like a bad thing but uh... it's really not something for an internet forum, which is full of strangers... who have no idea what you're  talking about, and couldn't care less. So basically their group just constantly spammed up topics with aHAAHHAHA SHINY REMEMBER THAT TIME.......

ADAM'S DOG DIED.

So now anyone who does something similar is referenced to the Serenity Squad.

And it's not like we don't want to hear real life stories. We just don't care about a group of RL PALS circle jerking and ruining shit.

Which is what it seems like you're beginning to do (from the two topics I've seen you post in)

Not to say you shouldn't post or anything just be conscious of "me and nem..........." stories and everything will be fine buddy : ))))

well excuse me. next time before i list my influences i'll be sure the equation is acceptable to your apparently narrow mind.

who the hell are you to tell me what meets what. note that every band listed has a certain something tying them all together. can you guess what it is mr genius? thanks for playing quit hijacking my thread

i hope you're not that thin-skinned in real life because you'll never make it as a band

Oh man, already a fight breaking out? It sure is a jungle outside Game and Demo, haha.

#1 Dad: Oh, and about the serenity squad, don't worry, I dun think it'll happen. We won't get more people in our circle of friends joining, I'm pretty certain of that.  :)

nah i'm a complete asshole in real life who doesnt care about people in general. I'm just used to another forum where blatant assholeness is frowned upon so we all get along great even when we disagree and debate. guess i'm spoiled...lol

A couple more things.

Double posting is frowned upon and yeah we're mean, that's why this isn't a terrible forum.

I dunno if that's what soup said, but that "serenity squad" thing is gold, and it needs to be in the wiki.

Anyway, I'm about to go off topic here, but I hope you plan on cleaning the glue out before rebuilding the guitar. In my world, when you snap a neck the thing is dead, and is only glued back together so it can be officially smashed on stage.

this kind of repair is actually pretty commonplace. in fact, when done properly the neck is stronger at the break point than before. yeah the glue is the first thing to go via hair dryer or heat gun. then in goes the wood glue and on go the clamps. i'm oversimplifying but thats basically the idea

and btw youre actually VERY on topic. thing kind of went astray after my original post  :fogetlaugh:

aight here's the update:

went to home depot and got a bottle of stainable wood glue and two 3 inch clamps--about $14
took a hair dryer to the glue nem used and peeled it out.
applied the glue, clamped it down at strategic places, and wiped away the seepage!

tomorrow the clamps come off and i use wood putty to fill in any remaining imperfections. then sand it down til its seamless. After that comes the staining.

i'll post those updates as well. til then lets meet the SG this one shall join after its fixed!

You can't put the clamps like that! You need to put something between them and the guitar, or else you will end up with several circular marks everywhere.

Edit: like this: http://www.dbeweb.com/guitar/guitar3.html

Yea wtf dude, steel clamps vs finished wood?

I suppose you're thinking you're going to refinish it, since it's got a huge crack in it?

yeah usually i'd use small slabs of pine between the clamps and the body wood (which is pretty soft) but in this case i wasnt gonna stress over any cosmetics. the neck finish may be sanded away in the future and then refinished in a light cherry stain and then a clear coat

i find it difficult to believe that you will get very far as a faith musician with a guitar filled with cum

EXCELLENT GIMMICK THOUGH does it make you play better knowing that you can be that close to both god and male ejaculate simultaneously???????

y'know the concept of a metal geetar solo is copulation right? the ejaculation comes up with the climax of the solo, when the geetarist holds and pulls up the squeekiest sound.

But it's not just cosmetics. Putting a piece of wood between the part and the clamp also spreads the pressure around instead of concentrating it on just one spot.

Hmm sweet axe. Sadly i only own a legend bass, but i'm gonna buy a 6 sting electric Axe and learn that, strumming away on the base line is kinda boring. Tell me, whats a good make for first time 6 string guitarist? That isn't really really expensive.

Yamaha, Washburn, Dean, Squier, Epiphone, etc, there are several brands that are good enough but stay away from those 30$ chinese guitars. They're awful.

yeah you really have a lot of options. go to music/guitar stores near you with someone who knows what to look for in quality when it comes to guitars. see what clicks with you and of course you can look up user reviews on sites like harmony central, musicians friend, and the like.
