First up is SPLATTERHOUSE. WHOOOAH.

I'll have pics and stuff whenever I get my subscription issue, bet on it.

Second up is Golden Axe:
http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3150629
wtf...where is my...dwarf guy.....
And the one you've all been waiting for...
Earthworm Jim...
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=18353
Virtual Console. New Game. New Cartoon. New Movie.
:fogetgasp:
I think this is going to be interesting. Splatterhouse COULD be good, Golden Axe don't count on it, and Earthworm Jim....I fucking can't wait.
Add on stuff like Street Fighter IV and shit to the mix, and it looks like we're in for a bit of retro revivals in 08. Thoughts?
-
I am very excited about Earth Worm Jim, everything about him from the games to the cartoon shouted out COOL to me back in the day, I've always been hoping for another game to hit the wii and provided they don't try to make it too innovative it could be a real hit.
-
Boo. Golden Axe actually looks good. It seems to be the kind of game that works well in 2D or 3D. Just looking at the pics it brings back memories of riding those beasts in the first game. Earthworm Jim? Please tell me it's not 3D.
-
Man that's awesome.
Earthworm jim was my favourite growing up. Now it can be my babies too......
-
Mario Kart Wii. ;)
-
Comes with a free Wii Wheel. :O
-
Spatterhouse should just be pure carnage. like the bodies should pile ontop of each other instead of clipping trhough.
If it doesn't do this (with more pools of bllood) then it'll be terrible.
Like it should be a game just about killing funky monsters and zombies in the most violent way possible.
they better not try and include something like stealth or story.
-
I'm glad someone punched the exec heads of Interplay when they decided to yank Earthworm Jim out of TenNapel's hands (which is why EJ3D sucked balls). TenNapel's a cool, funny ass dude and probably one of the better video game "visionaries" alongside Kojima and Schafer. I'm fucking excited.
-
I'm very excited about this new Splatterhouse game. The visuals look great so far.
-
Yeah I knew about Goldenaxe already but the other two came out of nowhere and both sound like awesomeness
I read how it was called GOLDEN AXE BEAST RIDER and I was like oh crap is it like a cart racing game or something? (Please tell me it isn't)
-
no one seems to know anything about golden axe, which is weird. i hope you arent stuck on a beast the whole game :/
earth. worm. jim. is like the best franchise. i always call him ewj... even though it has more syllables... because i am just that hardcore.
i liked the cartoon, too, so im looking forward to that! and a movie!? wtf.
-
Splatterhouse should be so fucking good. I just don't know man, I don't think Golden Axe could be good in 3D. They're going to try to complicate it by adding TONS OF SPECIAL MOVES or some shit I just know it. Fuck that.
Earthworm Jim.....if they fuck up Earthworm Jim.....there will be HELL TO PAY.
-
Fucking eh, Earthworm Jim! Groovy! I can't wait to see the movie, that will hit one of my top favs instantly!
-
Golden Axe I've read is basically like riding a horse on dynasty warriors but with more special moves (scripted animation moves which detatch you fro the gameplay, making the whole experience boring)
-
Here's to hoping the VG retro revivals are much better than the hollywood ones
(and holy shit, they sure took their time with most these)
-
Earthworm Jim, Splatterhouse AND Alien Crush?
Damn that's 3 seemingly impossible revivals that I want all annouced at the same time.
This is either a really good day or hell just froze over. Next you're gonna be telling me there's a new Streets of Rage and Chrono Trigger coming out (please tell me that...).
-
I'd personally really love to see a new Demon's Crest game.
-
Earthworm Jim is such a groovy guy.
^ Hell, I'd take another Ghouls 'n' Ghosts game in general. The one for PSP was pretty good from what I hear.
-
ok dudes got my issue, no scans cause thats lol illegal but heres the info on Splatterhouse:
*Looks very gory from all the screens. And it looks awesome. One screen has his arms exploding a head, as blood flies everywhere.
*Namco Bandai recruited Simon Bisley (Lobo/2000AD) to make artwork, and also have Gordon Rennie to flesh out the storyline.
*Not a sequel, a reinvention.
*Rick can rip limbs from bodies to use as weapons. Throw heads, use arms/legs as bats, etcs.
*Story: Rick, your average guy, and his hottie girlfriend Jennifer attend some university studying necrology (biology of the dead) under professor Dr. West. One day monsters kidnap his hottie, maim Rick, and leave him for dead. As he crawls along the ground, Rick finds a mask, and knowing he will never have such a hottie ever again, he dones the mask, and transforms from geek to monster, and goes after the monsters, not knowing it is Dr. West's fault.
*The developers are BottleRocket Entertainment, the guys who made Mark of Kri/Rise of the Kasai. It still looks fantastic.
*There is no health bar, instead when Rick takes damage, his body morphs. At the lowest damage, there are scars, slashes, gashes, and bleeding (note: it looks very disgusting even at this stage), then even more damage will actually reveal his skeletal structure (this looks AMAZING), then you get to see his organs (and they apparentally move and shit like living organs), finally he loses his limbs. Uses a Halo Shield-like regen system.
*Rick can collect Necrotic energy from his foes, to go into a Berserk mode, where spikes grow all over his back and he becomes harder to control.
*He can also raise the dead with the above.
*Rick can destroy the environment with his foes, throwing them into walls and such.
*Environments are "varied" and "menacing".
*Has a node swinging thing like DMC4 only more active, and requires more skill or something. Rick gets attacked by special foes called Morlocks during this.
*The 2-by-4, Shotgun, and cleavers all return.
*Bosses are "huge God of War II like" beings. One boss, called the Wickerman, has you using the nodes to move around and reach his weak point, all while avoiding a huge ass fire thing.
All in all, this shit looks and sounds utter fantastic.
-
I've seen the scanned screens, but didn't read anything about it. All I can say is:
HOT DAMN
-
SIMON BISLEY!!
SIMON FUCKING BISLEY!!!!!
(no wonder Rick has such huge shoulders)
Fucking god I cannot wait for this game now, he is the shit.
-
The monsters look sort of boring so far (although I guess they're not really the feature of that particular article). Oh well, they're all red on the inside and isn't that the most important thing? Squish Squish Splatter Splatter.
Rick looks amazing though!

b...be...beautiful

where would mankind be without remakes
-
Hahah the new Splatterhouse looks so bad but so good at the same time.
where would mankind be without remakes
I don't know man Splatterhouse strikes me as a completely original game that re-uses an old license and somewhat recognizeable character. Rather than designing a new generic character and announce a new generic setting they might as well grab existing generic properties.
-
the picture of rick popping a head is the best picture ever in the world.
i am either going to love or really hate the new splatterhouse. it seems like the sort of game that will either be excellent or frustratingly difficult causing you to grow tired of and hate the game.
-
what the fuck.
do you people REMEMBER SPLATTERHOUSE.
it was a terrible game with nothing to offer except LOL VIOLENCE, why is anyone excited over this.

What he said.
You lack awesomeness if you cannot like Splatterhouse.
-
Well these don't sound too bad but personally I don't care for retro revivals. They could instead spend the time working on something new.
Then again, I say that yet I would be the first in line if they made a new Earthbound or Kunio-kun game.
-
Wow, this is some pretty cool news, in particular Earthworm Jim and Splatterhouse.
For Splatterhouse, I'm glad they are making it a remake of sorts, since I'm personally pretty happy with the ending of part 3.
Hah looks like Rick won't be stepping on rotten meat with his bare feet anymore, he's got sneakers now!
