So I've been playing the same MMORPG for the past 3 or 4 years and decided to try something new.
So I bought the newest FF11 expansion for the Xbox and an Xbox hardrive off of ebay because my brother didn't have one. I'm not gonna get the HD for a few days so I can play yet but I need to know some things about FF11.
Like I know there is no pvp and its turn based?
How is the game in general is it easy to lvl and get good gear?
is it fun?
Whats the community like?
And how the fuck do you play it on xbox? Is it easy or should I look into getting one of those keyboards?
How do you communicate with other people without a keyboard?
So basically talk about FF11, especially on Xbox 360 and if there are any GWers on it leave me your info and maybe we can meet up or somethin

There is PvP, but it sucks (Guild Wars is way better), and yeah.

Very hard to solo. Lots of group content. If you can't get a group, you're boned.
is it fun?
Most boring MMO I've ever played.
Whats the community like?
A bunch of dumb English speaking people, with Japs who hate anyone who speaks English. Basically.

No clue, it sounds dumb playing it on a console. I would of got the PC version.

I could go into detail about this game but I'm just going to say that I agree with Handsome Lamb.

well you've already got the stuff you need but I feel the need to point out how much cheaper and better the game is on pc, but since you already have it on xbox i'd just stick with that.

There is pvp but it's not that great, unless they made some serious changes since I left the game years ago. For pvp Guild Wars is probably the way to go since DN is always raving about it.
The battle system is really just like FFXII, except you don't see an atb between your melee attacks, and things are more team based placing more restrictions on the individual player.
oh yeah and shit can come after you from miles away if you don't use sneak

no, this aspect is often what drives people away from the game since it's the only mmo that I know of where you can actually level down if you die too much. Although, things are much much better than they were a long time ago, since SE added in a lot of neat extras that make leveling go by faster, like a bracelet that temporarily increases the amount of exp you get.
Gear used to be very fucking hard to get, but it's much easier to get now. SE made a lot of rare/ex versions of items (items you can't buy and can only have one of) that used to be ridiculously expensive, so it's less about farming for hours to get some item as it is camping a spot for hours to get some item (but the camping was considerably easier).
is it fun?
I would generally suggest staying away from mmo since this game in particular is several hundred days worth of time (split over the course of 3 years) that I won't be getting back. However, if you are into mmos then I guess FFXI has everything you would want. At least the grind is semi-interesting on the way to level 75 since all sorts of crazy shit will happen in parties. There's tons of end game stuff that you get to do with alliances of people which a lot of people find appealing even though i got sick of all the organization and shit.
-
it actually sounds alot like lineage so it might not be hard for me to adapt to it. But I heard the pvp is like duel shit, you both have to agree to fight or something.
Yeah, if I end up not liking ff11 I might try guild wars.
But I'm only gonna dabble in this game for awhile anyways I think, its more for my little brother than it is for me.
-
This game really depends on your taste. I've been playing on and off over the years since it came out, and at some points I'm having a really fun time, an dont want to stop playing. Others I cant play for a week because I died like 4 times in a row getting de-leveled and the fact that it may take about >2 hrs to find a group.
No party - No leveling.

Actually i know a couple old lineage players who play ffxi now, so maybe it is like it(i have no idea for myself though). As for the pvp, no its not duel, the only pvp is a sports type games with goals and shit(i have never played it myself though), though sometimes people will setup their own game just to duel.

not miles away, but i would suggest leveling red mage or white mage first so you will have sneak and invis spells for doing stuff in higher level areas(this is enough to unlock almost every job and saves you money buying the sneak and invis items).
MaD is pretty much right on the money, a lot of stuff has made leveling easier(NPC Fellows are awesome), but some jobs are more suited for some things then others(Beast masters and Black mage are great soloers which is good because they don't get many invites). I find it to be a decent mmo and i personally don't think WoW is a better game, but i wouldn't really say it is worse either.
A bunch of dumb English speaking people
Welcome to the wonderful world of every mmo ever
with Japs who hate anyone who speaks English.
personally i play with japanese people all the time, maybe they hate you because you use words like 'Jap'?
Anyways, if you wanna join my crappy Linkshell or something, i'm on the Cait Sith server(My country is windurst, but that doesn't really matter as much now-a-days) and my characters name is Sigfried(yes that is how its spelled... I used the random name generator).
EDIT: I almost forgot the most important part of every post i make in a FFXI related topic.
Blue Mage is the best class in any mmo ever.

FFXI is like that hot, drunken whore you see at just about any party.
Basically, some aspects are good (i.e. the natural tits), but it leaves a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths (i.e. the diseased vag).
Money is easy to come by if you're at least Lv25 with THF, as there's a quick way to farm 40k/hr. Leeches @ Buburimu Peninsula, also a great way to meet friends and indulge yourself in the community.
Finding parties is kind of annoying, but it's all job dependent. DDs will often have a lot of competition in finding parties, whereas tanks and white/red mages are essential for a party. I suggest you start on THF to get a feel for parties.
EDIT: Also, you can join up with me on Quetzalcoatl if you want, as the economy is a lot better than compared to two years ago.
EDITEDIT: http://grumpypld.blogspot.com/ <--- A decent blog about FFXI that explains the pros/cons of the game, and the author was an old member of the RPG Maker community, so you can connect with him pretty easily.

So I heard both console and PC players play on the same servers.
I was wondering if thats true and if so, is it possible for me to access my xbox account from the PC version of the game?
I also need a link or something to download the game if it has an online client or something, if that is possible.
-
Unless you love grinding then don't get it, ever.

yes

i made my brother an account on my ps2 and he played it on his 360, so i'm pretty sure this should be fine

i think you can download playonline from a torrent or something for the pc, sign on to that and you can directly download the game and expansions. i'm not 100% sure on all this though, since i've only played the ps2 version.
Also i believe SE is working on some web page that will allow you to do account stuff from your web browser(took them long enough), so that may help... unfortunetly i have no idea when it will be done.

or any other mmorpg game ever

or any other mmorpg game ever
ya because all mmorpgs are obviously exactly the same.
No.
there is a PRETTY BIG DIFFERENCE between FFXI and WoW when it comes to grind (the latter is way easier, the former makes things way difficult and time consuming compared to the latter), or Everquest 1 and FFXI (latter is easier, former makes things way difficult and time consuming compared to the latter), or Lineage II and FFXI, etc etc etc. Some MMO's actually have manageable grind that isn't completely ridiculous!

Yes, ffxi may have more grind then most mmorpgs, it isn't really that much different then most, at least as much as you seem to be suggesting. if you don't like grinding you shouldn't be playing most mmos, to say ffxi is the only one is bullshit.
-
I'm sure its got less of a grind than lineage
and seeing as how it isn't a very player vs player centered game then grinding would be a big part of it
-
FFXI is just one big grind, I played it for like fucking ages and only got to like lvl 61, you have to farm endlessly, there's these gay LIMIT BREAK quests that stop you levelling past a certain point that you have to do to continue, and shit like that.
I enjoyed the game but unless you have a LOT of time I wouldn't bother with it.

so I'm trying to register to play online so I can play this damned game but everytime I put in the registration code it says my code is invalid.
I bought the Wings of the goddess expansion for Xbox360 and am using the code in the back of the manual to register.
Am I using the wrong thing? Is my code just fucked up, or do I need to buy the original game first?

if all you have is the wings of the goddess expansion(btw there should be a 2008 collection with all the expansions, for only 10 bucks more) then you will need to buy the original game, as the WotG code is only meant to unlock its own content.

FUQ
guess I'll go to the mall tomorrow and get it, figured as much.
This shit is so gay though you'd think it would be easier so you could just download it online and play like lineage but they're fucking difficult.
I don't have to buy both sets for xbox and PC do I? or can I just buy one and download all that shit on my account with the other?

I believe you can get play online for free and i'm pretty sure any expansion you have already registered for your account will be downloadable, but i'm not sure if you can download the original game. You should probably try asking at gamefaqs FFXI PC board or something, i'm sure one there will be able to answer the question quickly.
-
aight thanks
-
just had a talk with my friend and it seems i was pretty much wrong.
you can torrent the game and expansion, but they may not pass the file check and even if they do, i guess the torrents may have files in them that will allow someone to steal your account.
if by chance you wanted to get it on your computer so you can play with your friends/brother/whatever, you would need a new account anyways, if not, then yeah, playonline service is certainly not the best out
-
I will post this in every topic about FF11.
Do not touch this game. Do not.
I'm not trying to mean, just.... saving people.
-
I'm just gonna try to take the expansion back and buy the original and expansion set for the xbox.
that way he can keep playin it when I leave, we only got room for one connection at a time anyways cus my mom fucked the router up.
Thanks for the info anyways though!

actually the 08 collection includes the original game(at least the ps2 version does, i highly doubt the 360 version is any different), so that should be all you need.
-
Take back the game and buy Barbie Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue instead. You will be thanking me later.
-
Yes because we all know FFXI is that bad.
-
I just got it setup and its not too bad.
its kind of lame that I can't fuck people up but its entertaining enough for now.
Edit: oh yeah I joined Odin because thats the only one I remembered that had someone on it from GW at the time
