Title: Gaming World hates Three the Hard Way?
Post by: otomon on May 18, 2008, 02:52:25 pm
So I was planning on downloading Three the Hard Way today, and I went to the official website and this caught my eye:

Author's Reflection:

Some rambling thoughts:

Three the Hard Way has, with the possible exception of the Gaming World community, been an overwhelming success since its completed release in 2003. Its popularity both in America and overseas across the internet has been far more than I could ever hope for an game which basically started as a junk file for another project ( which has since long been canceled ).

Why was Three the Hard Way a success everywhere except here? I'm curious!

Yeah, I dunno man. From what I gather, it's got a pretty positive reputation around here.

I haven't seen iishineron in ages.

It is, in my opinion, the best complete RM2K game.

The graphics are pretty much ass, but the story is well-told and the characters are actually interesting.

I liked the game, because of the story and the character's personalities were very well portrayed.

I could see this being an instance of "mods and various members being intolerant of one prolific game developer's egotism and flagrant self fellatio" being misconstrued as "everyone at that awful, pedantic website hates my beautiful art". Maybe iishenron got into a scrap with some random person of minor authority and that set a bad taste in his mouth. I don't know anything about him/her so I can't say, but I know that people who develop these popular and well respected games are often ridiculously self centered and touchy.

I know ii pretty well (by internet standards lol) but I'd probably say that the truth is somewhere in-between.

gamingw is famous for having one man's opinions represent the website as a whole.

I haven't talked to iishineron in ages, so I don't know how he feels about Gaming World now. I recall him being one of the people who seemed to have some kind of beef with the site for some reason, though, always acting like a rebel without there really being a need. Probably something to do with elitism, something to do with criticism... you know the drill. I went to #rm2k for a while but ended up getting into a fight with the locals there and being banned. (I don't remember exactly how that happened but I do remember that it wasn't very fair!)

So that's how those things happen.

This doesn't surprise me at all. He's the type of person you'd hate, I think.

I could see this being an instance of "mods and various members being intolerant of one prolific game developer's egotism and flagrant self fellatio" being misconstrued as "everyone at that awful, pedantic website hates my beautiful art".
This is the most likely explanation by the way.

I enjoyed the game. It had it's faults, but on the whole was/is better than most of the games around. Plus it's plenty long. I got stuck trying to talk to the mayor person, though, and eventually gave up. But that's just me.
I wonder if the problem was that the downloads on Three the Hard Way were never very high compared with the other games at the time (The Way Series, ABL, Nafrauger, Devil Hunter, or even FF:EN) making it "unpopular".
