I live in Toronto so you might want to visit that cause I own and therefore Toronto must own too right? Besides we got some big-ass waterfalls next to us n stuff. And we got... Public Transit!!! you dont see stuff like that in say..Mexico or Afghanistan....So yeah..Wow, public transportation? That's a really good selling point of a place.
I'm taking a trip up to Canada this summer and I'm wondering where is a good place to visit. I live in PA so I think we are planning on going to Quebec because it's close and from what I understand it is one of the providences where the drinking age is 18. Also, does anyone know if you need a passport to get across the border? Because I have heard that you do, that you only need a birth certificate and a driver's license, and that you only need a passport to get back into the US.You don't need a passport to get across the border from either side, just a proof of citizenship with photo and your birth certificate. I actually got across with only my medical insurance card (which needs citizenship in Canada seeing as how it's a government thing here) when going to Philly last fall.
edit: FlowerPower, he lives in PA and wants to take a roadtrip, dude! Why would he drive to the West coast of Canada when the US also has a West coast which is mighty fine? :hmm: Toronto has many museums and art galleries! Also the film festival is coming soon!
There is also public transit in Calgary. :P And plus we have our lovely Alberta Beef! Be forewarned, its really expensive here though...Also, according to various research I've seen, Calgary is supposedly the cleanest city in the world.
As long as you stay inside Montreal, there's no trouble being served in English. But you're going to have trouble anywhere outside the city. There's a few parts of Montreal that are extremely french though but I doubt he'll go in those places. In the province of Quebec unless you speak french you should stay in Montreal. If you do speak french go to Quebec too. Montreal has a crapload of things you can do depending on your interests and we also have a lot of nightclubs (even alternative ones etc). It's really a cool city to be honest, some of the people suck a lot but it's still pretty awesome.

Oh I didn't know that...I'm just assuming. I guess you could talk about the art galleries but they don't really interest me too much, if you do come to Toronto though, check out the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum), they reconstructed part of the building and it looks awesomeHidden content (Click to reveal).(http://gamingw.net/pubaccess/50857/Michael_Lee_Chin_Crystal.jpg)
and isn't the film festival in September, though?
Its a festival featuring all the cultures of the world, yeah I know it says "Missisagua",that city is basically Toronto`s bitch..so Imagine Im Toronto and Kaempfer is mah....you get the idea...anyways its something you might want to check out,I mean besides the statue they got of me in downtown Toronto, its true I tell you!!!
I live in East York (which is the heart of the city!) and am capable of throwing together grammatically sound sentences so I would be careful about claiming you are a better Torontonian than I am (yes, that is what they call us)!
Uhh, when I went to Quebec most of the people there spoke English without problems. The only thing we did notice is that they were a little more rude to us because we didn't speak French (or didn't speak it very well). You shouldn't have any problems in any of the larger cities in Quebec even if you don't know ANY French.Dude, the larger cities in Quebec are pretty much Montreal and Quebec City. In Quebec City you will not get served in english trust me on that one. A lot of people will be able to speak english but they might be rude to you if you can't speak french at all (the city is EXTREMELY nationalist). In Montreal you won't have any problems whatsoever though. Unless you go into a few places that are mostly residential anyways so...

All over the city. ???
Fuck Ottawa and Quebec I think you need to pay otomon a visit
Are you drunk, FlowerPower? That billion-dollar monstrosity on the side of the ROM looks like shit and serves absolutely no purpose (since it is not structurally sound enough to support more than a couple people walking in it) and was a complete failure from an architectural and financial standpoint. It also destroyed the ye olden vibe of the ROM (which is the vibe
If you stick to the West Island and the more touristic area there's no trouble.Jeez... am I the only guy that thinks the West-Island is rather french? In general it is more english but if you go to Ile-Bizard and a lot of places in Pierrefond and even more towards the west it's so very very french.

Catslacks, I'm actually really surprised you were served in english everywhere in Quebec City. I've seen a lot of places where they would actually throw you out if you don't speak french (which I think is completely ridiculous).
I noticed that many Canadians are very proud of their Canadianness. I was working, and a man in dreadlocks came up to me and said this:
"Hi. I'm looking for a laptop. I'm from Canada. I want something that's not real expensive, because all I'll be doing is watching Youtube videos and checking e-mail. And don't mess with me, eh, because I'm from Canada."
Who wouldn't be proud to be Canadian? I mean the government takes away 15% from everything you buy,you get free "health-care" which is really a lie cause they only "cover" useless stuff that your likely never to get,but when it comes to stuff that matters you have to pay a huge amount of money cause of the fucking tax
Here is an example:
Me:"Oh no I got cancer in my anus! No problem Ill just bust out my health card and get an operation!"
Goverment:"We are sorry we dont cover that, but you can give us a sample of your pee tougth so we give you some bullshit test that you can probably do yourself..."
Me:"Fuck..."
Oh and lets not forget 40% of the country is useless/unhabitable and we got some asshole province that wants to become its own country just cause they want to have french in their game manuals, delaying the realease of good games even more!
Oh oh! Almost forgot! In Canada if you touch a girl below the age of 18 your a pedophile! and if she is above 18 your a rapist!
Fucking eh!
Ok, so we've decided to go to Montreal. We all have birth certificates and drivers license if not a passport. Now my question is, will they let us get a hotel room with just a US id and some cash?
EDIT: Also, if there is anywhere particularly awesome in Montreal let me know, and also what kind of Canadian cigarettes are good?
The rumors are true and sorta false outside the downtown area, its pretty filthy, like from a far distance you can see so much mist... but outside its pretty clean... for the most part anyway. It's pretty clean compared to other cities!

Shit no way, I can't believe that people actually live in toronto here. I used to live there, but now I'm just an hour away from toronto. Anyone heard of georgetown? >_>Just make sure you know some basic french before you go to quebec.
