whoa, just watched the new weezer single called "pork and beans" on youtube:

so they took a bunch of 'youtube heroes' and made a video about it.. I didn't get some of them (the rainbow socked girl?) but jesus, this is just combining a bunch of shitty internet memes and putting them together into one video. Not that I lost any respect for Weezer (they're not all that great, but they have some alright songs imo) I think the video's kinda interesting and it'll get them a lot of internet attention (i'm not sure if it'll be positive or negative), but oh god why :(

also, I do think it's pretty smart on their part since they catered to their (previous?) audience, which is pretty much a bunch of nerds (though with the last album (which was really bad) I think they gained more mainstream popularity... so I'm not sure about this whole thing).

Ahahaha this is horrible. I kind of like Weezer's first two albums, Blue and Pinkerton, but not because I think it is GOOD MUSIC, but more because it is fun and kind of stupid and reminds me of when I was a kid. Everything after those two albums are pretty much unlistenable and the music video for this song is horrible.

Ahaha, man, wow. That is awful.

I saw this yesterday and was horrified. I even posted a comment saying "I fucking hate the internet" and got 1000 thumbs down from all the other viewers. FUCKING INTERNET I TELL YA.
Basically this is gonna be huge on the y-tube of course so they succeeded there. Everyone is salivating over this shit even though the song is a real step back. I like their older stuff, too! Kind of a disappointment for me.

I did, however, like the appearance of "the Duck Donald" (doctorlegua's vid) towards the end. That made my day.

i think the problem that some people don't realise is that rivers cuomo is dead stupid. i used to listen to this band, i even liked pinkerton a lot and listened to it a lot for a while. back then i guess i was about 15, and while i realised the lyrics were terrible i thought he was being like, ironic and quirky. i don't think this anymore, he's just a stupid guy with an east asian fetish who has written some catchy songs.

and some of those songs on pinkerton were damn catchy, but no way could i tolerate more than one of them nowadays. and it looks like he's just gotten worse with age.

I liked/still like some old Weezer. I think its just that alot of their stuff is really lighthearted and catchy, not like most of the mygirfriendleftmeIamsosa​ crap that comes out now.

This song is pretty horrid though, I'll probably still download it just to see if there are any tolerable ones on the album but I'm not expecting anything good.

But then again "Beverly Hills" was pretty shit too though and I managed to find a few songs I could listen to on that album.

I loved this video. The song is eh.

What makes it so bad? You know if this helps anyone it's the youtubers, its not like THE HUGE CORPORATE BEAST WEEZER IS EATING YOUTUBERS. Do you even know that Weezer paid them to be in it? Cause I guarantee if Chef was asked to be in Weezer's video for Barkley he would.
I won't even bother defending their new music as I'm not a fan, but obviously there are a few people who don't understand the music industry.

I also like that Tay Zonday was mentioned, though he "sold out" to Dr. Pepper.

this video was really cool. you dont really see too many videos like this in the mainstream media, now-a-days. most of them are just the band playing in a plain white room, or in a field or something, with some quasi-artsy clips of random shit between fast changing angles of the band playing the music with way too much energy.

weezer always has been a cool, down to earth band. so not all of their songs are spectacular, and mindblowing. weezer is just one of them bands that when you hear a song you think "oh, hey thats weezer. yeah theyre cool peoples". i dont think weezer was ever out to be anyone's favorite band, not where they ever out to impress anyone.

damn internet music snobs  fucking hate everything that isn't some overglorified indie-respected faggotry.

it's using various internet memes, obviously to appeal to the geek/nerd/loser/cunt crowd. The video itself is basically repeating those memes around the song, making the video nothing more than "remember that thing on youtube?". Essentially the video has the merits of a conversation in an old folks home but with the added oomph of Weezer basically saying "aren't we cool and hip and trendy? we like the same things you like! Let's be buds" like that annoying fat kid you all remember from school, who'd suddenly like what you liked and would get the newest shit of it to impress you into being his friend (perhaps some of you were that kid). The song itself dull, generic and uninspired (not enough xylophone solos for me to enjoy), and it's just all bundled up in the fact that these memes are really the stuff nobody with a brain should find remotely funny, and if they do then they shouldn't brag about it, or even mention it outside of 4chan.

maybe things in here are somewhat different, but I found the video pretty interesting, I have never seen a mainstream video doing what they did, they do know that the youtube audience is a new public, and aimed for them, is that really so bad?
about the song, it's not horrible shit die, but it's not specially good either, although I've never been a diehard fan of weezer so it's not like I'm mad at them now.

basically this is the lowest form of humor or entertainment, the callback. if you don't keep up with some stupid bullshit internet pop meme trend, you don't get the video. it's wholely unoriginal, unrelated as far as I can tell to the song, and lazy. representative of the whole idea that people will swallow any kind of shit if you wrap it in a recognizable enough package and stroke their egos enough.

I meant oroginal for a mainstream music video, and no I had never seen that SP episode, as I said, things might be a little different in here.
but it's the only one I've seen where they actually used the original people, and somewhat kept the little dignity they had left, instead of just making fun of them.

anyway does it use the original authors of the youtube videos? put together? agreeing to take part in it? because that's what I like about the weezer video and I think it's different from the South park and the other one, they just make fun of them. Completely different,

I think that video made lots of youtubers emotional, and I think is a very nice move, and even more a very humane one, they feel like they matter more than just to have others make fun of them. the vocalist even hugged Chris crocker, it's like "we love you little youtube people" contrary to "youtube people are just dumb and stupid" which is what we regularly hear.

The point is not wether youtube stars are stupid or not. The point is that every other allstars youtuve video I've seen, only parodies them and makes fun of them, instead of asking them their cooperation to work on a new video. For example, Miss Carolina is with a blender with some maps inside of it, with an attitude of "so what? I screwed up, maybe I'm dumb, maybe I was nervous, who cares?" Then, the vocalist hugs Chris crocker, like saying "we don't hate you, maybe everyone is laughing at you, but we're not" and I think that's a very nice thing to do to those people who have been insulted to death in their videos, and are considered pretty much stupid by most of the planet.
Now If you don get that, it's probably because al GWers are by definition dead on the inside :(

Maybe they made a video just for fun? I think there is a little too much analysis going on here. Pork and Beans isn't supposed to be an orchestral masterpiece - apparently front man Rivers was making a stab at his record label (Geffen Records, who he fights with a lot apparently and is pretty much regretting ever signing with them - from what I understand) for rejecting other stuff he had written and trying to mold the band into a mainstream kind of thing.

Weezer has been influential in the "alt-rock scene", been very identifiable with a certain crowd, and in general produced catchy, enjoyable songs. They aren't for destroying your mind with some crazy new acoustics, but something to simply enjoy.

I don't know, just saying.

Also, saying that you love the Blue Album and Pinkerton but hate the "new stuff" doesn't make you smart.

Truth... I was about to say almost the same thing.

BTW I love this song and see no wrong. You can say “oh Weezer your such a sell out OMG." but the truth is they did not won't to sellout at all. There record label told them to make something with more pop and something that they can sell (like put in to commercials) and the band pretty much said Fuck you. Maybe I like this song  because I like to consider my self as a rebel and pretty much don’t take bullshit.

That doesn't excuse the lack of periods, it's more the result of typing fast than my lack of knowledge about the english language.

I have no idea why I hate this kind of stuff so much! I think it rubs at some weird internet thing at me but it's probably because of a few of those things are genuinely funny and then every person ever becomes committed to running it into the ground as fast as possible and usually as horribly as possible (I think I have seen Tay Zonday called a niglet at least twenty times).

I don't like it because it's pandering first off, a practice I find pretty disgusting in general and then also it's not really funny or unique or cool but people will fall over themselves talking about how it's even remotely good when it's not, it's just SHIT YOU SAW BEFORE.

I mean this isn't the world's greatest example but Michael Gondry had some music video where there was a clear homage to Evil Dead 2 and while that's still shlocking to the masses he at least did something to it other than "look, it's shit you saw before! aren't we CLEVER". I just saw this video I wish I could remember the name but yeah, it's not NON-CONFORMITY but more that a bunch of semi-good shit like Chocolate Rain goes from kind of funny to irritating because everyone and their shitty band wants to reference it.

I eat chili with candy no joke sometimes (it started on easter i was eating some chili and there were these candy coated easter eggs on the table).  It is fucking good.

Has anyone actually sat down with the album and felt a really odd sense of Deja vu?

I could swear I've heard the EXACT melodies to "Cold Dark World" and "King" somewhere else before but I can't quite put my finger on it.
