Title: So I bought a Nintendo DS last week!
Post by: jman00 on May 27, 2008, 09:53:29 pm
Hurrah, I finally decided to buy a DS, after many months of deciding, then learning that Dragon Quest 4 is coming to US for the DS, (dragon quest fans say hooray)  I bought FFIII and Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, but I am so behind with the DS news that I haven't really looked up on the current popular DS games aside form Pokemon.

So, what are some good games to recommened me playing? (And yes, FFIV I know about, that's one of the other reasons I wanted a DS.) Fill me with some suggestions on what to grab.

Try these:
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword(The stylus is a MUST, buttons are only used for blocking)
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker
Contra 4
Bleach: Blade of Fate
Nanostray 2
Sonic Rush: Adventure

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword - I'm not a huge Ninja Gaiden person, I like mainly the old school NES ones, I'll see what its like.

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker - Shit, I totally forgot about this game, that should be one on my list to try out, nothin' more fun then using Orgodemir as a part of my monster army.

Contra - I like the Contra series, except that one game for the PS2 that was like incredibly hard for me, but I'll check it out.

The rest doesn't reallt interest me, because I think the Sonic games lost its stuff after Sonic and Knuckles for the Genesis, and plus I'm not a big Bleach fan...

1. buy one of those r4 things
2. ???
3. profit hehhehehe

no but seriously if you don't have any aversion to piracy just go buy an r4 and then you won't need to ask us what to buy because you can just download whatever the hell you want (i was surprised at how small a lot of ds games are in filesize).  it'll save you a ton of money!

but then there's maladroit's side of things so....

also if you don't want to do that i would say lost in blue.  i played it for about ten minutes and it was sort of fun!

Repeating: Contra 4. It will mark the beginning of your new life.

Both the advance wars games for the DS are really damn good. I prefer the later one (Days of Ruin) because it doesn't have the goddamn Super Tag special which completely fucking unstoppable, but the earlier one (....Dual Strike?) has more content i'd say, is easier, and will probably last longer for you, so i'd say go with Dual Strike if you haven't played the series before!

Phoenix fucking Wright. The DS is just one big hunk-a-junk design to take a Phoenix Wright cart and allow you to play Phoenix Wright. It is easily the most addictive game on the DS.

Elite Beat Agents is almost as fun as Guitar Hero, and that's saying something. My sis, who never played a game she liked in her entire life, checked it out for 5mins, and then she sat in the couch, fetal position, for several hours with the DS in her knees and screaming along with the game: "*tap* SHE WAS A *tap* SKATER *tap* BOY, SHE *tap* SAID SEE YA LA*tap*TER BOY*tap*, SHE WASN'T GOOD *tap* E*tap*NOUGH *tap* FOR *tap* HER fuck I missed it again!!"

Ahh, good idear. (You a bad influence man, ha ha ha!) A buddy of mine has one of those, I'll see where he got his, then that will save me a load of cash.

Ahh yes, The World Ends With You... is it out yet? I'm not too aware...

Yes It is Out and let me tell you a story that is completly off-topic!

Once upon a time I had an r4..them my friend said "Oh let me borrow it for 1 week,im just going to cuba",he let me borrow some crappy r4 clone called ncard in exchange so I agreed,he comes back 1 week after and tells me some Cubans broke into his hotel room and stole the fucking r4!! Inside of me I was going like "OHH FUUUCK NOO",but all I said was..thats okay...atleast I can keep your ncard...and let me tell you something...

NCARD SUCKS!!

K now that I got that out of my system...you should really try Zelda : Phantom Hourglass I dont know why anyone has mentioned it yet...

It was a phase :(

Dragon Quest: Monsters: Joker: Colon is my favorite DS game and I recommend it because you seem like a Dragon Quest fan.

And if you like Elite Beat Agents and are getting an R4/other flashcard, I recommend you check out Ouendan. It's like EBA only now with 100 % less America and 100 % more Japan. Times 2, because of a sequel.

yea, i just randomly bought a ds on ebay and i made sure to also purchase an M3 real rumble pack thing for 50 bucks. it's such a ridiculous deal. you can play any game that comes out for the ds for free. i cannot see a downside anywhere in sight. so yea, i would recommend buying one of these things for fifty dollars and just downloading whatever the fuck you think looks cool, fuck our opinions, you can just try everything out and all you need is a 2gig microsd to store shit on.

edit: i actually did not read the entirety of your post before quote/replying, I kinda stopped at r4 and I realized that our posts are pretty much identical. i feel like a prick now.

for some cosmic reason i bought a ds and the only game i've played which i could say i enjoyed was hotel dusk: room 215. and i liked this game ALOT. so get that, one way or another. i hear good things about the phoenix wright games, they seem like some good stuff also.

also i guess there's mario, and it's fun but really you don't need to play mario again.

Pokemon Diamond.
Pokemon rpg's are always good and this has lots of playtime.
The World Ends With You.
Final Fantasy XI: Revenant Wings.

And... if you have friends with DS's:

Mario Party DS

Mario Kart

I'm surprised to see lost in blue and the word FUN in the same sentence.

't is not the same sentence. except when you placed the two in one sentence
yourself.

Either way...

Digimon is quite fun, but I reckon it's not enough fun to actually buy it.
FF XI, III and the new one are pretty fun as well, as is Dragon Quest
monsters: Joker (as has been mentioned).

Other than that... Luminous Arc is a nice strategy RPG. You might want
to try it.

EDIT: And whatever you do, don't waste money on Assassins Creed.

Apparently, there are 2 virus-DS roms that brick your DS. But further, nope, no downside as far as I can see, except it being illegal, but the authorities don't care about videogame piracy.

Puzzle Quest, DQ Monsters: Rocket Slime, Trauma Center, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Advance Wars are among my favourite DS games.

I thought FFXII was pretty poor, personally. I'd also avoid Children of Mana (you seem like an RPG fan).

Lots of people want me to grab either Pokemon or Mario Kart... (oh god...) so I might have a good set of games to buy. I'm also interested in tryin' out Megaman ZX.

I heard Megaman ZX is just a really frustrating game that's completely boring.

I played it and I'll admit it's hard, and the Metroid-thing was pretty badly done, but for all the other stuff, it's a brilliant game.

A lot of the good stuff has already been mentioned, but if you do decide to get a flashcart device might I suggest you take a gander at this fun little beauty:

StillAlive2D - Portal

http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/05/30/stillaliveds-portable-2d-portal-for-ds/

Lots of kickass homebrew for the DS if you know where to look.

You know, I almost did the same thing. I was walking around in GameStop during my break at work this morning and saw that they were selling used ones for $80. Then I saw that Phoenix Wright game for $20. I realized I could spend $100 and be set, and seriously thought about just throwing it on the credit until I got paid.

I didn't though.

But I almost.

Worms: Open Warfare 2 is like the most addictive game ever.
I bought Advance Wars: Days of Ruin two months or so after I bought Worms. I played it constantly for 2 weeks. Then I went back to playing Worms and I'm playing it whenever I have nothing else to do. It's pretty fun.

I personally didn't find Worms Open Warfare 2 to be that great, something else that bugged me is how you can't save at any time and then close the game (except if you have a CycloDS or w/e).

I played a demo of it today, it seemed alright but I just got Worms for the 360 arcade so I don't want to buy it again.  They're pretty lackluster compared to World Party and Armageddon but they aren't bad.  I just don't see why they cut out so many weapons.

I prefferred Worms Armeggedon/World Party... those were the best of the crop!

If you want to play a game that really utilizes the DS to its (almost) full capacity, Kirby: Canvas Curse is amazing. If you can find it, buy it; it's only like 20$ at most.

Title: So I bought a Nintendo DS last week!
Post by: Vale on June 03, 2008, 07:55:00 pm
I'll agree that Armageddon/World Party were much better than Open Warfare. But a handheld version of DS is win nonetheless.

Quote
I just don't see why they cut out so many weapons.
This is just a theory but I'm guessing it has something to do with the radical censorship we've been seeing these days, like the Baseball Bat and Old Woman being examples of EXTREME VIOLENCE and the Indian Nuclear Test being racist or some nonsense.

...man that'd be crazy if it was true.

EDIT: Also the AI in Open Warfare 2 gets pretty damn silly sometimes; if you've got a WiFi connection you'd probably prefer playing against humans than lolAI.

jman00, answering your question I would recommend you visit TestFreaks, choose Nintendo DS games category and sort games by score:
http://www.testfreaks.com/ds-games/?sort=score
Such way you'll see what DS games have the best scores based on expert and user reviews.
I think this is the most objective way to understand what games for this console are the best.
Hope it will help

Oh, on that topic, I'm also sorry for your sig.
