ok since you guys suck pretty much and don't like to post in the music forums..
This is a topic about bands and artists that do great music within/revolving the following genres:
Space Rock
Dream Pop
Noise Pop
Psychedelic Rock
Experimental
and are NOT post rock.
This is the music I've been listening to lately, and it makes me happy in my pants excessively. IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD TIMES.
These guys know what to do to make you escape reality, dream floating fluffies and what else, Love this shit, respect.
Six Organs Of Admittance
This is a dude, his name is Ben Chasny, he likes to play some raga-jams and add synths to make the whole thing ethereal. When he's not doing raga, he's playing one of the most beautiful droney stuff, adds soft mantra vocals, weirdness here and there and you get a whole experience.
The amazing thing about this guy is that I yet have to find a song I don't like. He is really dope and unbelievable at times.

Well dude Animal Collective of course, but including like every song from Feels, Here comes the indian, and as a safe estimate, half of Strawberry Jam.
also odd shit but Metal Machine Music is like the perfect album to zone out to because there's no melodies or anything like that to get destracted by (thougha ctually i get a bit into it sometimes.)
-
Heh I was going to make a topic later today but I'm glad that someone else did, whats the deal with your tags there man? I'll try edit them for you.
Well [youtube] obviously isnt working but dude if you want to link to the videos just use http:// tabs
-
thx afura, meh bravo sector to me Animal Collective best song is their psychedelic opener, native belle, it is amazing. Their other songs are more sharp than the stuff I've been meaning to post here.
And MMM is pretty harsh, try tim hecker, it is noise but softer
-
uh man just do: [ dohtml ] (insert embed video code from youtube here) [ /dohtml ] also afura wtf [youtube] tag?
and hey that's shit that gets me going, whatever album it is (either feels or the indian) that has hey light on it is a very cool album relisten to it!
and MMM is kinda entertaining at least for me, I have legit music that's worse than it in my collection.
-
Nope youtube tag is for real. I just have no idea why it isn't working in this topic, I always use it in my articles and totws!
edit: Shep i think its because you have all the videos maximized so they are too big to embed in this topic, minimize them again, link to that and try again.
(sorry to go off topic here)
Also that Yo La Tengo vid was pretty funny.

i am also a fan of this musics.... mostly noise rock / experimental. i don't know if you're aware of comets on fire or the usaisamonster already, but they're excellent imo.
comets' most recent album "Avatar" has a more rock sound to it (it is still somewhat psychedelic i guess). if you're looking for more of a PSYCHEDELIC JAMOUT, "blue cathedral" is the album to check out.
as for the usaisamonster, i'm not sure if you would enjoy them, but i think they are pretty awesome. they're a noise rock duo with native american influences in their lyrics, or something like that. the vocals can be pretty odd and hilarious at times, but i don't think that was their intention (or maybe it was........). "Tasheyana Compost" and "Sunset at the end of the industrial age" are the albums to get from these guys.
edit: i also forgot to mention Boredoms - Super æ. i guess it is noise / psychedelic rock. i am terrible with genres and hate getting it correct, so i may be wrong. this album was considered their "breakthrough album" and it is really good. you might enjoy it.
-
haven't heard usaisamonster, might check out.
Of course I heard Comets on Fire, Ben Chasny from Six Organs of Admittance is a member of that band.
-
if anyone has heard the Boredoms live tell me, I've heard they are a really good show!
-
In the same vein of some of the stuff you guys've just posted to, there is also Liars! Their album Drum's Not Dead is fucking great, the tribal-like emphasis on rhythm and how much it feels like an album and not like individual songs is all very well done. Here is one of my favorite songs from that album, called Drum and the Uncomfortable Can (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VFPwwUsG7Y).
-
hey I checked that up, and although that is definitively experimental, does not fit in the direction of this topic, just check some of the youtubes to get an idea.
As for Boredoms, it's like half n half, some of their stuff fits here, other are more eclectic, drums predominance, etc.
-
Eh, I'd definitely say if Animal Collective belongs here Liars does as well. Though they might not share the same sound, I would definitely say they influence one another and are of a similar approach to the music. Check Animal Collective's The Softest Voice and Liars' Drum Gets a Glimpse to see a bit of what I mean.
-
my mistake, Animal Collective doesn't belong here, just the song I mentioned, Native Belle. If you think Animal Collective and Liars! have a sonic direction similar to the ones I suggested, then I dunno what to say.
I don't want to sound like an asshole, but this topic is meant to expand on bands that have that sort of direction.
This topic is about bands whose sounds revolve round the mentioned genres: dream pop(yo la tengo), space rock(spacemen 3) and noise pop(my bloody valentine) (psychedelic pop and experimental are other variables, but we expect predominance on either of the first 3 genres)
Another band:
American Analog Set
low key dream pop
Album to get:
SET FREE
PLAY HURT

Heh, your genre definitions are making me laugh.. kinda ridiculous I think but arguing about them is even stupider. And these kinds of music are all excellent so I will not impede in us progressing with the topic..
Does anyone know if Spiritualized is a good live act? To be honest I have heard very little of their material but I do know their claim to fame is being the successors of Spacemen 3 so I would hate to miss them when they come by if they are worth it.
Also yes, My Bloody Valentine is one of the best. Everybody always cums over Loveless (and with good reason) but I would like to point out there are gems on their lesser-known EPs as well. For example check out the Tremolo EP. The songs Swallow and Honey Power on there are fantastic.
