Usually when I think of new music coming out for the year I get pretty excited, apart from a few artists releasing NEW material
clay aiken 2008 doesn't really seem to be that great of a year for music like it was last year :(, but hell you could prove me wrong. When I tried to think of new stuff I was excited about here is what I came up with:
# New Ghostface. I just discovered a tiny tidbit of information on this today. Currently he’s in the studio wrapping up projects by LL Cool J and Young Jeezy. He also said Fabolous, Method Man, and Ghostface will be hitting the studio soon to work on new albums.
http://www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=21976
But yeah that is tiny, also New Rza, Gza, Inspectah Deck (just announced) and Raekwon.
# New Opeth, just got this a few days ago. It's actually very good and I watched the dvd and read up on it, read the lyrics and stuff and it is actually a pretty well thought out album. Very dark and has a running theme through the whole album. Also has the line: "Out of the courtyard, come back tonight, My sweet satan, I see you" playing backwards during one track.
#New Borknagar, I'm kinda getting over them and nothing concrete has been said about this at the moment but I know Vortex from Dimmu is coming back to do a song.
Merely curious about
New N.E.R.D Seeing Sounds
New Michael Jackson Untitled
New Game album L.A.X
Albums that are really recent that sucked
In Flames ahahahahahha
What about you nigs? What albums are you currently looking forward to or what really recent albums are you enjoying?
-
the new hanzel und gretyl is alot heavier than before
-
I've been waiting on the new dredg since the beginning of the year, but they still haven't set a release date or made any information about the specifics of the album public yet. Right now, the next thing that's coming out that I can specifically think of that I'm looking forward to is the Scars on Broadway debut album. The single from it is pretty good.
And to be perfectly honest, I am looking forward to the new metallica album that is hopefully sometime in the fall. I just really hope that it is a decent record for once.
-
man ghostface never gets done with anything studiowise these days.
everyone remember the collab between MF Doom and Ghostface yeah good luck with that.
-
New Ladytron album dammit
(no, I'm not using iTunes and I definitely won't)
-

haha, it's funny you should say that, I was listening to one of the new songs as I was reading this thread. It does actually sound like they've gone back to the 80s / early 90s. All things point to it being good!
oh, incidentally it should be out in September.
-
I remember when we went to see opeth the singer was talking about the album being released in September I think, they're also gonna start touring again with the new material then.
-
Mike Patton's Mondo Cane - Patton performs 50s + 60s Italian pop songs with an orchestra. I've watched some videos on YouTube and it was the coolest thing ever.
-
Chinese Democracy heheheheh....
Man, I have been really out of the loop. I have no idea what is being released this year. But the new Shai Hulud is downright intense. Aside from that, I really don't know many albums that I'm looking forward to as of now.
-
new john frusciante album mainly. also i think the mars volta are working on a new album!
-

wait are you talking about opeth because they definietly just released an album on tuesday

I remember hearing about this project but I hadn't seen/heard anything about it recently. I'll have to look for it when I get home from work. Do you know if there is a planned release date for it or anything?
-
Well, the Hold Steady have a new album coming out soon and their last one was pretty good (even though every single song was just about getting high and dancing/partying), so I'll probably check that out... Also No Age have just released their first real album and I've been meaning to check them out for a while now, so I intend to pick that up later this week.
-

hey, i didn't know he was working on a new album. that's great! i'd care about the mars volta if too if i was actually all that into any of the previous two they'd put out.
-

I've heard it. they've kind of refined that whole "concept albuma bout being in towns and sad" so if you aren't about that maybe it will be disappointing. idk they got their formula downpat now so you'll probably like it, want me to get you a link?
-
man ghostface never gets done with anything studiowise these days.

I can't think of anything else he hasn't finished :hmm:
If new metallica is good I will be very very very suprised, I have zero respect for them currently.
-
no he's just incredibly well known for never being consistent with studio time. like the new Wu album took as long as it did because Ghostface never gets in the studio. he FINISHES but as far as saying "oh a ghostface album maybe" you can pretty much take any release date with a big pinch of salt!
-

Hey, that'd be cool, thanks! Yeah, their albums kinda grate on me since the phrases 'and we went out dancing/drinking' seem to pop up every two minutes, but the songs themselves are actually pretty good when you listen to them individually...
-
New Sigur Ros although I heard the one song and I didn't really like it which sucks cause I'm like #1Fan!
Not new stuff but John Mayer live album (lol)
Ummm....
New John Mellencamp soon.
Can't think of anything else at the moment but will come back and edit if I do.
-
looking forward to new dredg the most, followed by new anathema, pure reason revolution, shels, mew, pt live album and steven wilson's solo album. there are a lot of other good bands releasing albums this year but those are the ones i want to hear the most.
-

Comparable to the others he is pretty consistent haha hey Raekwon what happened to only built for cuban linx (2) it was meant to be released 4 years ago and you just post a song now hmmm?
Woah Ds new Shels???? I honestly cant think of anything else I'm really excited about
-
wasn't there like producer problems or whatever with Cuban Linx? I could swear there was some shit that went down that stopped it.
-
wait are you talking about opeth because they definietly just released an album on tuesday
I don't know I just heard him say something about a new album then he played a song off of it and said a new tour and I heard september and thought that was when they were doing both
-
I remember hearing about this project but I hadn't seen/heard anything about it recently. I'll have to look for it when I get home from work. Do you know if there is a planned release date for it or anything?
All I've heard is "summer 2008." I assume that means summer in the northern hemisphere, so that might be soon, since it's winter here.
Also the mentions of Raekwon reminded me that I'm waiting on Cuban Linx 2 hurry uppp Rae.
-
I dcon't look foward to music
-
woah shep you're such a rebel, not looking forward to stuff. go you.
-
hahaha bravo.
I'm also a bit curious about the new Nas, I don't expect much though, it'll be so much boring political wankery gogogogogo obama etc
-
woah shep you're such a rebel, not looking forward to stuff. go you.
just saying the truth
-
I don't know I just heard him say something about a new album then he played a song off of it and said a new tour and I heard september and thought that was when they were doing both
he was referring to the "new album" (watershed) which is out now. An album that is recently released is still considered "new" you know.
-
yeah johns had music for a long time for a new album but he's been too busy with the peppers to make it and now that they are on break he'll have time to put it out, so im mostly looking forward to that
-
just saying the truth
isn't that a bit like going into a topic about US politics and being like LETS TALK ABOUT CHILI.
basically if you dont care dont post!
-
basically if you dont care dont post!
no, I feel like the question is addressed personally and I have urge and the responsibility to respond it
-
Okay, so I found out the faceless are working on a new album, so thats got my attention.
http://www.myspace.com/thefaceless
New song seems alright, some real high points, other parts seem to be a bit flat.
-
Also new Michael Jackson and Dr Dre and Adagio.
except the first two are never ever ever ever coming out
also i semi hate eminem but i am curious about his new album
-
Shinedown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinedown) is releasing a new album in a few days.
They're a Jacksonville based alternative/southern rock band and despite how bad that sounds they are actually pretty good.
-
Woah Ds new Shels???? I honestly cant think of anything else I'm really excited about
Yeah, it was supposed to come out in March or April but then it didn't and I haven't heard anything about it since then.
-
Shinedown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinedown) is releasing a new album in a few days.
They're a Jacksonville based alternative/southern rock band and despite how bad that sounds they are actually pretty good.
I remember hearing some song, I believe it was called "from the inside" or something on the radio many years ago and I recall it actually being decent and them having a good vocalist, but I never really checked them out
-
Oh yeah, and I completely forgot that Ephel Duath are releasing a new album this year. They are fucking awesome so I can't wait for their new album.
-
no, I feel like the question is addressed personally and I have urge and the responsibility to respond it
what? no it wasn't and if you have the urge just QUELL it because i'm actually kind of getting tired of coming into topics and seeing you post just to say you don't care, so how about we just assume your lack of participation in the topic is your way of telling us that you don't care, like with everyone else on the forums. if you for some reason take issue with people looking forward to music then post about that or something, but just saying NOPE NONE is dumb.
ps i don't really look forward to music but i would if i ever knew what was coming out! i don't really keep POSTED about the bands i like so i never know when they're working on new stuff, which is kind of nice because instead of FERVENT ANTICIPATION for months leading up to the album, i get a nice surprise when it comes out. i think the last album i actively cared about was OUR LOVE TO ADMIRE and that was like over a year ago.
-
I actually don't really keep up with things like this, so this topic is really useful.
-
before, when i was REALLY into frusciante and the chili peppers/chili pepper pals i anticipated music so much. this is the first time i've thought about how much that has gone away and i miss it. i got so excited about those guys, i mean, i just don't like them now that i'm older and i wouldn't change that but the feelings i used to associate with those musicians is something i miss. like, in the run up to stadium arcadium getting released i would spend most of my internet time just looking up tidbits and whatever about the new album and then as the singles and sound clips treacled out it was great.
i don't think i'll ever have a band i anticipate like that again, just cos i don't really feel that excitement about music i once did. cos i used to think there was something else to it than the sounds i was hearing - i was actually getting wrapped up in that music has a soul stuff - and i just can't bring myself to that mentality or belief anymore. frack me!
so obviously i'm not really anticipating much music ahead, i wish i was. the only thing i am even vaguely aware of coming up that i'd like to hear is frusciante's next solo album, but that's probably just some kind of nostalgic thing or residue from before because my opinion of him is so much lower now. i guess i don't dislike him or anything but it's like a childhood hero to regular joe kind of thing.
-
Oh yeah, and I completely forgot that Ephel Duath are releasing a new album this year. They are fucking awesome so I can't wait for their new album.
HOLY SHIT I completely forgot about that. Isn't it suppose to be about being a dog or something?
-
ladytron is coming out with a new album? that excites me! anyone know when?
-
I remember hearing some song, I believe it was called "from the inside" or something on the radio many years ago and I recall it actually being decent and them having a good vocalist, but I never really checked them out
Yeah man they're vocalist is pretty damn good.
They've released two albums so far and imo they're both pretty good so I look forward to the new one. They tour around my area ALOT so I should probably go out to see em' one day. I can also upload they're stuff if you'd like me to.
-
yeah do that bro
-

I know what you mean and it really sucks, I think it would be a good discussion for a TOTW some time.
-
ladytron is coming out with a new album? that excites me! anyone know when?
Came out on iTunes on the 19th of May. I forgot to check if it was at the local music store yesterday *facepalm* but I got a copy anyway [read: ][/read:]
So far so good actually, I think it's much better than Witching Hour but still behind 604 and Light & Magic.
-
yeah do that bro
Done btw
-
thanks bro you're a real bro
-
Hey guys,
we thought you'd like to know the following:
ED will enter Outer Sound Studios in Rome on July 14 to complete their new effort, "Through my Dog's Eyes".
The drums have already been recorded by Marco Minnemann at Home-Base Seacoast Studio in Imperial Beach, California.
While the producer is Giuseppe Orlando (Novembre, Klimt 1918), the mastering will be done in Finnish Finnvox Studios (HIM, Nightwish).
Seldon Hunt (Neurosis, Isis, Sunno)))) will take care of the artwork.
"Through my Dog's Eyes" will be released in the fall on Earache Records.
The official tracklist is as follows:
1 Gift
2 Promenade
3 Breed
4 Silent Door
5 Bella Morte
6 Nina
7 Guardian
8 Spider Shaped Leaves
9 Bark Loud
yes
-
HOLY SHIT I completely forgot about that. Isn't it suppose to be about being a dog or something?
oh man i forgot about this, yeah it is, like life through the eyes of a dog or something weird like that. ED is pretty great.
-
Man thats real wierd, I like how there is a song called Bark loud ahaha I hope its real heavy.
-
I'm seriously really excited about how it's going to sound. The Painter's Palette is one of the best metal albums ever and Pain Necessary to Know was even more heavy and weird so I wonder how the new album is going to be like. I hope there will be some clean vocals though!
-
yeah pain necessary was great but it needed the clean vocals back
-
There's apparently a new Orphaned Land album in the works, originally scheduled first quarter this year but uh, yeah.
-
New Nas video:
Nas - Be A Nigger Too
http://nahright.com/news/2008/06/09/video-nas-be-a-nigger-too/#comments
This is better than I thought it would be but still  I'll be very very suprised if this gets any radio or video play though haha.
-
ahaha shels, I've been their stuff as background music for my youtube shit (my gmj response and my hillary one which I deleted). it's funny stuff, that'll be one album for me to look foward to. I already used 'the conference of the birds' and 'water part 1' so I'm basically almost out of material.
ladytron is coming out with a new album? that excites me! anyone know when?
it leaked ages ago, but I think it officially came out last month. I'm not a big fan of them, but if you like em you'll probably like Velocifero.
oh man that nas video. I have no idea what he's doing with this
-
All I've heard is "summer 2008." I assume that means summer in the northern hemisphere, so that might be soon, since it's winter here.
http://www.youtube.com/user/azarrias - this youtuber here has uploaded several live songs of decent quality.
-
There's apparently a new Orphaned Land album in the works, originally scheduled first quarter this year but uh, yeah.
It was originally supposed to come out in 2006 and I think the latest news is that it's coming out in early 2009, though I didn't read that my anywhere, my friend from Israel told me that so I dunno if it's true or not.
-
yessssss thank you for telling me there will be a new mew album
-
apparently royksopp has a new album coming like now pretty much
-
Yeah, I'm looking forward to a new Royksopp album. I doubt that it would be able to top Melody A.M. though, that was excellent stuff.
-
supposedly it's ROCK too - like isn't that the 52nd time they've switched genres
-
how about we just assume your lack of participation in the topic is your way of telling us that you don't care, like with everyone else on the forums.
Simple: I sometimes don't like to do what everyone else does.
if you for some reason take issue with people looking forward to music then post about that or something, but just saying NOPE NONE is dumb.
I wholely agree it is dumb, that's pretty much the point to it.
ontopic, maybe i just want some new six organs of admittance to come up. but since I don't look foward to it, i dunno wqhen it will come up
-
okay well don't make dumb posts i guess???
and also rave doesn't doing something for no reason other than because NO ONE ELSE IS DOING IT and you just love being original that much strike you as being just as mindless and shallow as doing something just because everyone else is doing it? especially when the other people actually do it because it MAKES SENSE and not because it's what everyone else is doing? honestly man you're like 20 aren't you? that is sort of WELL BEYOND the age where senseless and childish rebellion against shit, especially PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE shit (heh post only when you have something to say??? BULLSHItg) just because everyone else does it is still anything resembling cute.
-
you're a rebel don't let anyone tell you otherwise
(fight the power)
-

I agree about the mindless and shallow part, but isolated from the rest of your reasoning.
You completely underestimate my perception of reality if you REALLY, REALLY think I work the way I do just because NO ONE ELSE IS DOING IT, AKA JUST TO BE DIFERENT.
btw
Simple: I sometimes don't like to do what everyone else does.
this was sort of tongue in cheek y'know
-
you got me man i totally underestimated your perception of reality
it is just that is not the FIRST TIME you have mentioned doing the opposite of what everyone around you is doing and in fact you seem sort of stuck on it so coming from you, it's pretty unexpected that anything relating to that would be anything but completely sincere.
-
All the cd's I was anticipating already came out, so the rest of this year is pretty bum!
I am waiting for NOFX's Backstage Passport to finish up on FUSEtv, since I don't get that channel. I'll download the whole thing.
-
supposedly it's ROCK too - like isn't that the 52nd time they've switched genres
I'm still waiting for a metal song
-

anything but completely sincere?
I don't get how you end up with that conclusion.
You are suggesting that I go against the flow on purpose. As I intentionally want to do this.
As if I pretend to be the opposite.
PRETEND, which means it is fake actually.
Dude, you're reading too much into it, it is pretty simple, I just post. I post what I feel like posting, and it is ontopic because I answer the initial question.
You think there are all intentions behind this, but no, I do this in an almost numb manner. I absolutely don't care what is what EVERYONE DOES or nobody does. Free spirits yo.
Edit: no steel
-
well stop it.
-
Hahahaha steel was on the prowl
-
No one knows who she is other than 1 Thing, but I'm looking forward to Amerie's forth album. She was just signed to a new label though, so her stuff won't come out until like next year, probably.
-
uffie's debut album
-
guys you could really stand to say more than "x new album". it's a music forum, not a twitter dumping ground.
-
I am gonna follow steel's advice and give some genuine information - Metallica's new album has a name: Death Magnetic. From what the band and a lot of other people associated with it are saying, it certainly is more of a return to their old style.
-
Mike Patton's Mondo Cane - Patton performs 50s + 60s Italian pop songs with an orchestra. I've watched some videos on YouTube and it was the coolest thing ever.
I love how Patton is so against retro music, and he's making a 50s+60s album (the fact that it's Italian does not cancel this out)
But I'm still gunna check it out. From what I've heard it's really good. WAY better than Peeping Tom.
-
Amon Tobin will be sporadically releasing new tunes over the next six months but you are going to have to pay for them individually if you want them. (WHY?) I guess at the end this will make up some kind of album, he also invited amateur musicians to submit to him their own work and he will be choosing some of it to feature on a compilation album with him. (I am too scared to do this.)
OH and he is doing a digital release of Taxidermia, hooray amon tobin.
I also heard Aesop Rock is releasing a new album in August called "None Shall Pass." I haven't bothered to confirm this but it is rumour I guess.
-
i heard nirvana is releasing an album called nevermind in september or something
-
OH and he is doing a digital release of Taxidermia, hooray amon tobin.
This has already leaked and I swear to god it has the worst album cover ever.
I also heard Aesop Rock is releasing a new album in August called "None Shall Pass." I haven't bothered to confirm this but it is rumour I guess.
None Shall Pass was released last year dude.
-

the fact that it sounds even remotely interesting makes it better than peeping tom by default
-
I've been in a Post-Rock kick recently, and I've really been enjoying Glowworm's "The Coachlight Woods". It's absolutely beautiful. Very atmospheric.
-
okay great no one knows what this thread is for at all anymore.
-
Steel:
What about you nigs? What albums are you currently looking forward to or what really recent albums are you enjoying?

I've really been enjoying Glowworm's "The Coachlight Woods".
-
great thanks for telling us about new music from March you're enjoying.
-
well honestly im too busy filling my massive gaps rather than anticipating new releases :(
if new good shit rolls around im pretty sure gw will make me get in the know so i let other members worry about this
thats my excuse anyhow
-
None Shall Pass was released last year dude.
For Serious? Wow I am a dolt. I also just found out Bonobo released an album in fucking 2006 that I didn't even know existed.
-
my names steel and im cranky
-
WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH EVERYONE TAKE IT EASY, WE ARE FRIENDS REMEMBER?
*cracks mod whip
-
the fact that it sounds even remotely interesting makes it better than peeping tom by default
True, I just mentioned Peeping Tom because that was like the last thing he did.
-
Hasn't he done another solo album?
-
Maybe, it's hard to keep track of everything he does.
-
The new Envy/Jesu Split EP is amazing. Quality stuff from both of them.
-
Maybe, it's hard to keep track of everything he does.
he did the soundtrack to "a perfect place" maybe you are thinking of that
-

Against retro music? How so? I know he's dissed Wolfmother (which was hilarious) but I've not heard him criticising retro stuff otherwise. Also I liked Peeping Tom a lot, but I anticipate Mondo Cane more.
he did the soundtrack to "a perfect place" maybe you are thinking of that
Yeah I was gonna say this is his latest solo album so far. It's really really good too!
-
Against retro music? How so? I know he's dissed Wolfmother (which was hilarious) but I've not heard him criticising retro stuff otherwise.
There was an interview he did for Faith No More just before Angel Dust was released were he stated his dislike for retro music. I believe it's on youtube.
EDIT: This probably wasn't a problem of communication my post, but I meant that he artists that make music similar to music made in previous decades, not older music.
-
I finally heard T.I's new single (net has been dead for a while) and it's one of my favourite songs of his, definitely. Very impressed and very excited for his new album.
-
It turns out that Randy Newman has a new album called 'Harps & Angels' that's coming out in August, and I'm pretty psyched for it. The only song I've heard off it is 'A Few Words In Defence Of Our Country' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OldToIF5ZGs&eurl=#), but it's pretty awesome and a long way from the 'Toy Story' soundtrack, so yeah.
-
word, I actually didn't know the guy was still doing any NON DISNEY shit anymore so this interests me as well since Sail Away or whatever that album was had some excellent songwriting and then....
the disney came...
edit: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/139128-the-pitchfork-guide-to-upcoming-releases-summer-08 whoaaaa, also there's a release labeled ABE VIGODA, I hope to god it's the person and not some band.

No, it's a band. I got really excited a couple of weeks ago when I saw the name hyped on Last.fm (they had some big boost in popularity). Then I checked it out and yeah... just a punk group.
-
One Day As A Lion (http://www.myspace.com/onedayasalion)
Zach De La Rocha (frontman from Rage Against the Machine) and Jon Theodore (Former Mars Volta drummer) are releasing an EP as "One Day As A Lion"
Its coming out July 22
This sounds like it could be really cool
-
New Re-Up Gang should be good! New Busta, inspectah deck also
