Title: Yet another x-box vs Playstation topic.
Post by: Bravo on June 20, 2008, 04:49:25 pm
So I'll bve gettting one of these soon but I don't know what games are out at the moment. I heard a lot about Mass Effect (only for x-box) and GTAIV (for both, but apparently new episodes are x-box exclusive?),  and also Fable 2 (only for x-box, shit are all cool games on the box?) but I don't know of any other games.

I've been leaning towards x-box 360, but I just want to know if there's any reason to get PS3 at the moment? (aka like any really amazing games only for that system?)

Mass Effect is also for PC.

PS3 has Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools of Destruction, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Warhawk atm really.

It's gonna have other good games very soon though, like Final Fantasy XIII, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, and Little Big Planet (which basically will make the ps3 must get anyways)

X-Box 360 has like Halo 3, and I can't really name any good exclusives for it that aren't on PC at this time. I'm sure some will come to me.

PS3 also has Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, even if it's just a "big" demo. Folklore is pretty decent too. Tekken 6 is in limbo.. Probably not going to be released on the PS3 until, from what I've heard, April 2009. PS3 also has Devil May Cry. I've never played the series, but I think its popularity on the PS2 must speak for itself.

EDIT: Just noticed GT5 was already mentioned, but whatever. It is fucking BEAUTIFUL in HD. Best looking game I've ever played.

i don't have any game notes at the moment, but one thing worth mentioning is that PS3 has free online and is a blu-ray player. in fact, the PS3 is among the cheapest blu-ray players on the market and it's more than just a player. you may not care about blu-ray now, but it would be nice to have down the line since it's the next official media for movies and the like.

Don't count on Capcom to make exclusives in the near future.  I think Umbrella Chronicles is their only current gen exclusive.

This.  I bought a PS3 for MGS4 but quickly found myself collecting blu-ray movies just like how I ended up being a fan of DVDs when I got the PS2.  IMO Sony's online service is much friendlier than XBL and I like the friends option a lot more.  There's a couple of good games in the store like Fl0w and Pixel Junk Monsters as well as tons of demos and movies and stuff.

As far as games go, both systems are pretty neck and neck.  Mass Effect just hit the PC, BioShock has been announced later this year for PS3 (I think), and pretty much every 3rd party game is multiconsole (and the PS3 is more powerful so, generally, the games look better and run faster).

Metal Gear Solid 4 is only on one of those and I think that game alone could sell the PS3 to you if you played it.

I was faced with this problem a month ago, I chose the PS3 because it has a lot more potential than the 360.

You should make your decision based on what game franchises you enjoy the most. In the past I have been obsessed with MGS and Gran Turismo therefore I was willing to spend an extra £100 to get what I wanted.

that's a good value I suppose. though i kinda think that by the time dvds are discontinued regular blu-ray players will be mega cheap anyway. could be majorly wrong because I know nothing about this.

I really don't follow too many, although, I suppose that Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy would be the exceptions. idk I'll have to look into what games I enjoy more I suppose.

but generally, aren't there more shooters for x box and more rpgs/adventure games for ps3?

on a minor sidenote, how is Assassin's Creed? either way I think I'm gonna get this game.

dude why is this even a querstion. The only gmae PS3 has is Ninja gaiden. Why do you think they still put next gen games on the PS2?
PS2 did RPGs right, but 360 is getting into that, albeit very slowly, like one every couple of months.

PS3 has Warhawk the better online shooter out of the two, it has Uncharted a better action, it looks better, plays blue-ray movies and can do whole load of stuff that the Xbox360 can't do.

The only reason why I prefer the Xbox 360 is because I play multiplayer games and all of my friends own 360's aswell. Plus Ninja Gaiden two is just to intense to pass up.

basically you are pretty dumb if the PS3 only has Ninja Gaiden.

Already Out Exclusives:
-Resistance: Fall of Man (an excellent console FPS. Best launch game for the PS3.)
-Ratchet & Clank: Future Tools of Destruction (continues the excellent series)
-Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (a nice taste of what is to come)
-Metal Gear Solid 4 (The excellent finale of the series)
-Motor Storm (pretty damn decent racer)
-Ninja Gaiden Sigma (excellleeent)
-Folklore (eh. It's alright, not my thing)
-Warhawk (AMAZING online shooter)
-Lair (very average, I'll admit)
-Uncharted (amazing action game)
-The Eye of Judgment (if you like this kind of thing)
and more on the online store!

Coming Soon:
-God of War 3 (you know this'll be good.)
-Resistance 2 (gonna be awsm)
-Ratchet 5 (YEAAA)
-A new Jak & Daxter (hell yeah)
-Final Fantasy 13 and like 2 other FF13 games (nuff said)
-SOCOM: Confrontation (I got the EGM on this, and holy shit this looks so good. It might RULE CoD4 hard.)
-A new Wipeout (YESSS)
-White Knight Story (looks decent for a jRPG)
-Gran Turismo 5 (if prologue is any indication, this will fucking own)
-KillZone 2 (can't wait)
-Monster Hunter 3 (nuff said)
-Tekken 6 (YEAHHH BOB)

Well I got a PS3 mainly for MGS4, I'm a big fan of the series and it'd probably take a while for some Xbox port if any. With that said, I'm currently having trouble finding more games to play because all the games I'm looking forward to aren't released yet. 360 seems like a safer option at the moment, but I guess the decision depends entirely on which console has more games that YOU'd want to play.

If I had to choose right now, it would be tough. I have a lot of friends who play online with the 360, so it's my preference.

(and the PS3 is more powerful so, generally, the games look better and run faster).

Is it though? Xbox 360 has a generally better video card and unified memory architecture, and while there might be potential for optimizing the Cell processor, it's reportedly too complex and many developers might not bother with pushing it to its limits, especially when they're making cross platform games.

I've always wondered about this.  I haven't looked at the specs or anything.  However, I have read reviews for mutli platform games(games that are out for both systems) and the 360 always seems to have "the better version" with faster load times AND crisper graphics.  Is the PS3 really more powerful? :fogetshrug:

Well, kinda. Havent really been seeing it until recently though. Burnout Paradise and Quake Wars are two examples of better on PS3.  But nowadays theyres just the same.

i have seen two people say this now and no offense or anything but i don't see the logic in that at all! like don't get me wrong, LBP is going to be sweet, but honestly it is a side scrolling sand box game! honestly i don't see it as making the PS3 a MUST HAVE and i'm a person that really digs user generated content. idk, i think it will be NEAT but not the godsend a few people have made it out to be!

i have seen two people say this now and no offense or anything but i don't see the logic in that at all! like don't get me wrong, LBP is going to be sweet, but honestly it is a side scrolling sand box game! honestly i don't see it as making the PS3 a MUST HAVE and i'm a person that really digs user generated content. idk, i think it will be NEAT but not the godsend a few people have made it out to be!

5 Details.

1) How Enemies Work — I kept hearing that each new “LBP” press demo would finally reveal the game’s enemies. But in each demo — including the one I went through last week — they were not in there. I asked Evans about this; what he told me made me realize I had been expecting the wrong thing. The developers at Media Molecule aren’t focusing on giving players pre-made enemies.

Instead, Evans said the game will ship with five or six artificial intelligence brains. He wouldn’t tell me what the AI behaviors would be, but explained that a “LBP” user would be able to apply them to their creations in the game’s editor. Whether or not the AI brains will drive your creations effectively depends on your designs. For example… did you put wheels on the giant attack-llama?

2) Gaming’s Most Impressive Screenshot Tool — You can take in-game screenshots in “Little Big Planet.” Hooray. You can then take those screenshots and apply them to objects. That’s actually… promising. While using the game’s content editor I made a few beams and struts. Then I hopped my character on top of them to pose for a screenshot. I took that shot and applied it as a sticker to one of the beams or struts. I had created an optical illusion, my character standing on top of a beam that looked like an image of him standing atop a beam. Think about how you could use this feature to mess with people: making solid walls look like empty space and fooling them to crash right into them.

3) How “LBP” Music Can Turn Levels Into Rhythm Games — “Little Big Planet” users can place sound objects in the levels they create. The object Evans showed me was a little speaker. We were able to attach it to a block that was resting at the beginning of a level we were making. You can assign music that will play from that speaker when a user’s character walks past it. The music from that speaker can be set to play from any point in the track. I proposed an idea to Evans that he said was 100% do-able: I could line a level with speakers, one set up every few steps — and set them all to play the same song, but queued up from different parts. Doing this, I could make it so that if a player ran through my level at a certain pace, he or she would hear the song play perfectly. Running at the wrong pace would cause the player to hear the song play in a choppy fashion.

4) Just Add Water — The game features an impressive content editor. It integrates all its objects within a certain style of calculated physics. Objects teeter and roll with mathematical precision. But there’s one element that’s not in the game yet — liquids. I can’t flood a level with water and watch how that affects everything I generated. Instant non-purchase? No way. Evans told me liquids are possible: “If people want that, we can do it.” [I've ][/I've]

5) The Gifts That You Can Give — Not only can you use “Little Big Planet” to create any imaginable gaming object that would fit in a 2D playing field, but you can also make the blueprints for any such object. Those blueprints — really, the object itself — can be uploaded to other gamers. Better than that: you can make the blueprints a collectible item in the levels you create. Better still: you can associate such objects with leaderboard requirements. So I can challenge the world to score a certain number of points in a level I’ve made and then automatically reward anyone who achieves that mark with a trophy object that I made myself. I wonder what I could force people to receive if they play my level poorly…

The one thing Live online has over PSN is in game messaging and that will be remedied when the 2.4 FW Update comes.

Hey I kinda want one of these consoles so I can play GTA 4 and some others. I don't really have any interest in MGS4 (b...blasphemy) so I kind of lean towards the 360. But how are the technical problems with it, like the red ring of death? I kind of want to avoid those risks!

idk i feel like those things might be exaggerated.  i don't really USE my 360 much but i've never had any problems with it, and the amount of red rings of death i've heard about seems to be declining, so you should probably be good.  honestly though even though there's not much that i think makes the ps3 a worthwhile purchase over the 360 at this time, with how well the ps3 does in other markets, that's probably going to change soon, so i would go with that.  it will probably get to the point where you own both eventually anyway so w/e.

It's really up to luck; many people get one that runs fine and will never get a red ring prematurely on their first go, while others go through three or more.

I'm just so pissed about how Haze sucked so much balls. In any case, I have a PS3 and have never even touched a 360, but I have to say, it does look pretty delicious. However, I'm getting a rig that can handle most of the PC games that are 'exclusive' to the 360, so I'm probably not going to get one. The PS3, as of right now, just has alot of things going for it in the future. If you plan on getting a PS3, get MGS4 and wait a couple of months.

I can't really think of any games that have come out recently that are console only that I would really want to play, so I've just been sticking to playing games on my PC for now.  If I were to get a next gen console though (although I probably wouldn't any time soon because I don't feel like spending the money, and the future only holds less available time for me to play games) I'd probably end up getting either a 360 (there hasn't been anything on the PS3 to make me even want to remotely touch or think about getting one as opposed to the other consoles)

That's good I guess. Though I'd probably just get one of the two, since I already have a Wii (and it's my first console ever, for the record). In the end there's not that much about the PS3 that makes me want to get it. There aren't really enough games I'd like that justify the price for me.

I'm on my first xbox that I got at launch day. It had to be repaired once for red rings but microsoft took control after I called them and shipped it to germany and back for free while fixing it so that's all cool. I think the important thing is to fucking call MS and make them fix it and not buy a new xbox 'cause they'll do the former for free. At least if the warranty is still valid (the warranty is probably longer here than in other countries because of strict Norwegian warranty laws).

This isn't exactly a deal breaker but I loooove the DualShock 3.  I like how the battery is rechargable so you don't have to constantly buy new batteries (I go through about 4 batteries a month with the 360 controller not including the wii controller) and it still has motion controls as well as force feedback.  Plus, the sony controller is a classic design and if it weren't for the bumpers it'd get a 10/10 on my "awesome" meter.  The bumpers themselves aren't bad but they feel really weird because I'm so used to simple buttons.

Well, at the end of the day, if you like VIDEO GAMES then you're going to be happy with either console. And since you're posting here, you must like video games!

I mean, the PS3 and XBOX360 get a lot of the same games. Some BIG TICKET titles like MGS4 or Halo 3 will stay on one system, and, in this case, the 360 has the most interesting exclusives at the moment (though many of its exclusives are also on PC). Plus, XBOX Live is a really solid service, and though it costs money to play games with others, it's extremely affordable and pretty worthwhile I'd say. I picked up the Elite a few weeks back and I do like it a lot. As others said, the PS3 is a cheap Blu Ray player that ALSO PLAYS COOL GAMES which is a pretty great selling point in and of itself, because Blu Ray is probably the next step for movies and shit! Also, the Dual Shock really is the best controller design ever, there's a reason Sony hasn't bothered updating it much over the years - it just doesn't really need it.

Best solution: BUY BOTH hehehehhehehehehhehehe

But I'll say it again - no matter which you choose, you'll probably have a lot of fun in the end.
Title: Yet another x-box vs Playstation topic.

The only thing I'm looking forward too on PS3 is Little Big Planet. Other then that its basically neck and neck. But imo, Xbox Live is better then PS Home or whatever its called.

That's the only game I'm looking forward to regardless of console. The console war can suck my , because when that make-a-game game comes out, that's it. I'm done.
