Title: Could Be Getting A Wii Today...
Post by: Brent Murray on June 20, 2008, 09:41:30 pm
...Well my income tax situation has finally been resolved, as it seems that the cheque is coming by next week for a cool $900...which is a relief since it WAS suppost to be here on April 28th...jesus...

But yeah one of the things I was considering was getting a system, the very last one...

Well #1 I need a system, Since XBox, PS3, PSP & Wii's release, I have stayed put and huggled my PC like it was my new favorite toy, thinking I could just make my own games and play everyone elses and that could satisfy my needs, however I'm too far out of the loop now...I need something to unwind when I'm not making my own games, because waiting weeks to finally test or play your own project...is a long wait in it's self.

#2 What system should I get? After a long thought process, I have decided that the Wii is the best choice. It's the cheapest, it's has the fitness thing, and more games that I want at this time. (Ie: Brawl, Galaxy, etc) It's been hard to use my gym downstairs, extremely hard...I have lost 50 pounds over 15 months, but still find myself not wanting to work out. I walk to a hour to work and play hockey...but still find it tough, this game seems to be what I'm looking for, and the other games are a bonus too.

#3 With buying a Wii, I must say goodbye to games like Final Fantasy, Wild Arms, Metal Gear, Star Ocean, etc. There will be no way I could (also doesn't make sense) to buy another system. So I must learn to love Nintendo again, Gamecube didn't really pan out well...so...has Nintendo learned their lesson?

#4 The controllers. So many of them, how many do I really need?

#5 Finical sense. However it's bugging me that even with thousands and thousands of dollars, I still don't have the urge to spend it. But money must go I suppose...but there is so much that I do need besides a game system...

Today is basically d-day, I have the weekend off. The first time in over 5 months. I have now been confirmed of the money's arrival by next week. And I have hit the $2500 mark for the very first time...it's been about a year and half since my last major purchase of a new laptop, is it finally time to break down and buy it?

If I do...then I'll be buying two games probably. Wii Fitness and Super Smash Bros Brawl, although Brawl has sort of rubbed off it's shine since I've been following it and watching all the movies...still...

So...I must think, should I buy a Wii? Should I even buy a system? How will this effect my own games? Will this fitness thing even work? How many controllers must you buy? Are you too old to be playing it in the first place? What about school? What about your job?

So...many questions, my head hurts.  :fogetsad:

Dude save your money. Having money is not a viable reason to spend money.

Yeah but...I have so much that I don't know what to do with it...and...I'm really out of the loop, the last console game I've bought was NHL 08 back last summer.  :blarg:

I would wait till after E3 to see if I would get a Wii. It has some good games... but very few.

No more waiting for stupid E3's, now or retire.  :tsk:

I have one... it's ok.  It has some great titles but its very few compared to the 360 or PS3 which have many.  The Wii is 95% shovelware.

I hardly play it when people arent over and even then Mario Kart and Smash are competing against Rockband (PS3).

Zelda is good (though I have a GC version), RE4 is good (but its a port), Okami is good (also a port), then theres Sunshine, Metriod, and Fire Emblem.

It has Tales of Symphonia 2 coming out which will be good but besides that I wouldn't recommend it over a 360 or a PS3.

Aw great, now I'm even more confused.

Lose weight or better games...  :fogethuh:

But I wanna play something besides RPG's all the time.  :fogethuh:

Lose weight... go outside? Workout?

Also there are other genres besides RPGs.

Well I do play hockey outside with some people, and I walk to work for a combo of 2 hours each, and eat pretty healthy. I don't drink pop anymore and always try to eat something fruit relataed...but it's not enough. And yeah, I want RPG Maker (and my games) to fill the void for my RPG's. But I wanna venture out to other games, which is where Wii comes into play. I have another a hour left to decide.

Well if you just want one... get one.  I don't recommend it but if you're already set on it... why ask us?

Just checking, because I wanted to get a bit of a feed on it from other people who own these systems.

Hummm...it's looking more like a no, but there has got to be a timetable on this...  :hmm:

Just so you know, rock band comes out on Wii in two days and includes 5 songs that are DLC on ps3 and xbox360. Also, what games you find good depends on what games you find good. All of the systems have comparable games depending on what you're into. To be honest, none of the CONSOLE KILLERS for the ps3 appeal to me:

Metal Gear Solid 4 - never played a metal gear solid game passed the beginning. Didn't really like it, and I heard if you're not a fan of mgs, you'll be completely lost
Uncharted - Gears of War outside
Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools of Destruction - Action platformer. While I like the series, not enough to sell me.
Resistance: Fall of Man - CONSOLE FPS
Warhawk - Third Person Shooter
Final Fantasy XIII - Don't like final fantasy.
Gran Turismo 4 - Don't like racing sims.
Little Big Planet - with all the hype, I think this will probably lose it's appeal pretty fast (holy shit did he just say that?)
God of War 3 - bloody prince of persia with button mashing puzzles.

I should've probably posted that in the other topic, but it's whatever.

EDIT: Brawl, mario kart, zelda, galaxy, boom blox are enough to make me have a wii, and ToS2 sounds pretty nice too.

EDIT EDIT: Don't let me discourage anyone from getting a ps3, if you like those series, then I've heard the sequels are pretty good.

If you're really that hard up for a system then why not the 360?  I'm personally pretty content with my Wii (though I do have a 360 too), but generally speaking the 360 seems to be the system with least amount of criticism against it regarding the available software.  If you're willing to give up on what makes the other two viable choices for you then I'd go that route.  To be honest though, you probably should hold on to that money until you can make a better decision on your own.  As mentioned before, why not wait till after E3?  It comes up next month and you'll have a better idea of what to expect throughout the rest of this year and on into early 2009 or so.

$900? Holy shit with that money I would upgrade my computer with some new beefy parts :D

But yeah, I have a Wii and it's loads of fun with friends over (Brawl is great times... I rented Mario Soccer too and that was some seriously fun shit) and the fact that it can play GC games is really nice because there are a number of good GC games that sell for dirt cheap.

That said, a lot of games on the Wii are junk... unfortunately. There are a lot of shitty PS2 ports which is sad because the Wii can produce much better graphics than the PS2 (of course, it falls short compared to the 360 or PS3 buuuut).

But heh yeah if you're hellbent on getting a console I would say the Wii is a good option. It's kind of hard to recommend a console over another because the Wii, PS3, and 360 all have their strong points and it will all boil down to personal preference.

I own a wii and can tell you there are a lot of shitty 3rd party titles. But here is some wii games that are worth looking at:
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
Medal of Honor Heroes 2(Yeah a WWII game, with friend code-less 32 player online!)
No More Heroes
Metroid Prime 3
Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Overrated, but fun)

I have others, but what I am truly looking forward to is the upcoming FPS called "Conduit".

:woop:  :gwa: I BOUGHT MY WII!!!  :gwa:  :woop:

Played with my brother on Wii Sports to start out, and boy is it fun! And a workout too! We just spent the whole day playing each other and wow! So far we kinda suck on most of the games, but we are going to get better. Seems like I own my bro in Golf, but he kicks my ass in everything else. REALLY REALLY FUN! I'm glad I bought it! (made a Josh Cromwell Mii to use too!)

I also bought Super Paper Mario & Smash Bros Brawl the Wii Fit was sold out, so I'll buy that whenever I get a chance.

And who knows!? Maybe in another year or two I shall buy a XBox 360 for Star Ocean, Metal Gear and everything I missed out on! But for now Wii is the system for me.

I was a bit worried on how this will effect my own games, seems like alright. I'm on it right now getting back to work, so it looks like it's not a bad thing. It actually gives me a bit of a escape.

So yeah...don't know my friend code yet, or haven't really tried anything else besides Wii Sports, but I will Sunday or Monday. YAY!  :)

Too bad that Super Paper Mario is one of the most repetitive titles I've ever played. :<
It's alright though, I guess.

The GC Paper Mario was awesome, and one of the best games for GC, which is why I was so disappointed with the Wii Paper Mario. It does have pretty good reviews though, but I think it's pretty overrated and most of the people I know who have played it have got bored of it within few hours due to it being repetitive. I played the game to 6th or 7th chapter or something, and the last couple of chapters felt like forcing myself to play it.

You should have gotten Super Mario Galaxy instead.
Still, good choices overall.

Yeah I sorta have to agree with ramirez in regards to Super Paper Mario, while it is a fun game and everything it really feels like a chore to play toward the end, I'm up to chapter 8 and that's where I've been since December...
Thing that pissed me off most is that optional flipside training tower thing, you get all the way to the end, then get killed by this uber powerful boss, then after getting through it all a third time and winning, you find out there's also a flopside version of the same place!

geh!

Mario Galaxy is money better spent, but don't expect it to be as replayable as Mario 64

I regret buying a buy. Not because it's not cool it's just............ not cool. I've Zelda, RE4, Okami and No More Heroes, will get Smash soon. And that's it! There are few titles I'm interested on right now, mainly Mad World and Sadness, lets see what happens.

I've never played a Paper Mario game, so I can't wait to see what it's like!  :woop:

PM1 and 2 were epic, SPM was crap. Sure it was HILARIOUS(lizard nerd, lol :p) but the gameplay is repetitive. Turn based RPG combat was not here and was always a series strong point in the first 2 as well as comedy so just avoid the wii one. If you are getting it, I won't stop you :/

idk if people are tired of me posting this but I had a wii for about a month last summer and I sold it. I really bought it on an IMPULSE, i was at Walmart buying jeans or someshit and they had a few in stock. WELP I had money sitting in the bank so I said "what the hell", partly because these things are apparently ridiculously hard to find most places and partly because it was a NEW system and I rarely buy new shit when it's still pretty new. I bought the Wii Zelda and Super Paper Mario.

Long story short, I barely played Zelda because I found the control scheme more annoying than REVOLUTIONARY as we were constantly being told it was. That and I found it a pretty dull outing with the same slow, dull dialogue. The dungeon design and everything was great as I've come to expect but I was still pretty bored with it! Super Paper Mario WAS very repetitive as ramirez said. I almost beat it but the cutscenes were often overlong and sometimes redundant and it sort of just dragged on! It wasn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, far from it, but I wasn't thrilled with it either. I think I spent most of my time playing the Virtual Console release of Ocarina of Time, which is definitely my favourite Zelda ever, despite the presence of generic Zelda dialogue. And owning a Wii to play OoT was hardly enough. I wasn't interested in more than one or two of the games on the horizon either, so I said fuck it and ebayed it to buy a new graphics card for my PC.

The Wii does have a fuckton of shovelware, and Nintendo really doesn't seem to care. There's always Nintendo's first party stuff to look forward to, but like every Nintendo console since the SNES, it's just not worth waiting in my book. It's a great party system or second console or something like that, but I guess I just want a system that gets those big ticket blockbusters and shit, like Fallout 3 or Metal Gear Solid with the WHOA GRAPHICS and NEXT GEN THIS AND THATS. The latest and greatest, you know, not just MARIO PARTY 9: NOW WITH MOTION CONTROL.

It's sort of funny because I am in no way a hardcore gamer and I pretty much suck at 95% of games I play, so I should be into a more casual system like the Wii, but I'm not!

I kinda regret getting my Wii. Its mostly nice for some multiplayer games with friends and such...but I already have a few friends who have wiis anyway, I don't use mine very much.
As for virtual console, well, I own most of the old games worth playing anyway...

Haha yeah Super Paper Mario was definitely the worst of the 3 PM games. The first and second one were so excellent... about on par with each other in terms of quality. SPM is decently fun but there are parts that are seriously boring.

Prepare to do a lot of reading in Super Paper Mario, but if you can stick it through at least play on through to Chapter 7 which I think is one of the best if not THE best chapter in the game. (the ending to it is kind of sad too ;_;)

I used to regret buying Wii as well. There are only a few games that are really worth playing, and games like them come pretty rarely. Now I don't really regret buying it anymore, mostly because it's so cheap and I waste my money on even more pointless things, plus there's a couple of games out now that really save the system for me. Having all the next-gen systems, I definitely think that Wii is the worst one of them, in terms of technology as well as games. But hey, at least it's cheap (although you can get 360 for pretty cheap now as well). But in the end I guess it's all about what kind of games you want to play. I would never even consider buying games like Wii Fit.
