I bought MGS3 Subsistence(Snake Eater) 4 days ago and im having a blast. I am stuck in a pretty tight spot right now: Im fighting "The End", one of the bosses. This guys crazy at sniping! How do you beat this guy?!
-
2 options:
*When you enter the fighting area for the 1st time, save game and quit. Go into the clock settings of your PS2 hardware and set the clock forward a couple of years. Load game.
*Thermal goggles. Look for lens flare. Shoot 3 times in center of lens flare.
If you defeat the end by draining his stamina you will get his gun.
-
You've just got to avoid making noise, use the mic, look for footprints on the ground (with the thermal goggles) and such. Alternatively, you can turn the playstation's clock a week forward. It kills him instantly.
-
Save your game, go to ps2 settings and set the date/time like 2 years forward then load the game up and he has died of old age.
OR just fight him in the traditional way and follow his footsteps on the ground to the other parts of the jungle and scout the surroundings, you can sometimes sneak up on him too and then just beat him up until he throws the flashbang and escapes, rince and repeat.
Basically it just takes a lot of time if you fight him fair. Like 30+ minutes.
-
thanks, but where are the thermal goggles?
-
I remember this fight took me HOURS, and once he even ambushed me and I got sent to jail (or whatever that facility was GOD i need to play again)
-
is this clock thing serious because if so that is fucking amazing and i will play this game sometime
-
Yes it is Velfarre.
And I forgot to say this, but you'll have an easier time killing him if you can manage to take out his parrot. Look carefully in the trees, he sees whatever the parrot sees, so taking it out is like taking his eyes out.
Plus you can eat the parrot later lol
-
And if you eat the parrot while fighting The End, he'll hate you.
-
I think all of the bases have been covered already so I won't comment on the best ways to actually beat him. But, I have to add that the bosses in MGS3 are really incredible, especially The End. Fighting The End without taking advantage of any of the numerous cheeseball methods (save trick, thermal goggles, killing his parrot, sniping him earlier in the game etc) is really intense.
Did anyone else notice that many of the bosses in MGS3 can be beaten much more easily if you use thermal goggles?

YES.
Sight is everything in most boss battles. The Fear has the Stealth Camo, which is pretty annoying because he can ambush you from anywhere without knowing.
The End has an area which is bloody HUGE making him basically impossible to defeat without cheating if you don't own Surround Sound or the thermal goggles.
I had neither, it was fun.
The Fury's area is dark and you can't see him.
And the final boss has a camo similar to the area, which is pretty damn annoying.
(yay for non-spoilerz)

There's a couple of methods people didn't go over:
- The End doesn't see through the parrot but the parrot does give away your general position when you get close. Normally, The End falls asleep after a minute but if there's loud noise (including his parrots squawking) he'll go into caution mode which causes him to look around.
- If you do capture his parrot, set it free. It'll instantly return to its master and he'll spend a few seconds swatting at it to shut it up.
-The end mumbles to himself which you can hear with the directional thing and he also falls asleep and snores real loud. The End also loses major stamina over time and recharges it once it gets low by soaking up the sun. It takes him about a minute to do this so you can blast him while he's charging.
-The easiest method (if you don't want an extended sniper battle) is to equip the shotgun and sneak up behind him. Hold him up to get his camo then blast him. When he gets up, he'll move at like... 50 miles per hour and drop a stun grenade. Position the camera to your back so you don't get flashed and then shoot him again which makes him fall down. Rinse and repeat and you can kill him in 4 hits.
-
Ok thanks to you guys! I pwnt the end and ate his parrot(its odviously "DAMN GOOD!!!"). I also killed the fury(he is my fav ^^) and laughed everytime he said "son of a BITCH!" because he sounded like the tourrets guy. Now the 2nd to last cobra remains, "The Sorrow". I cannot stand him as he scares the living piss out of me, especially that liquid-like ghost attack. I now need help killing him! Any ideas?
-
you need to use the fake death pill. i had to look this up online myself.
-
How? At the end of the lake, I die o.o
-
At the end of the lake press L2 and use the fake death pill.
-
use the death pill then revive yourself. ez
-
Thanks! Wow, I also beat shagohod recently and this game seems shorter than the rest o.o
BTW, I am doing it on normal mode :/
-
What the fuck? You guys can't be serious it took me like 3 hours to beat that guy!
-
HA, Easiest way to kill the end is on an earlier level.
Just after you've waded through a river avoiding drone thingies flying over head and the first place you can get the sniperrifle.
You enter an area and there is a cutscene i think its the one where volgan hits the girl at the docks, The end should be in a wheel chair.
If you snipe him there or the explosive barrel near him, He'll be killed and you wont need to do his boss battle. Instead there will be afew of those black, red hatted soldiers if i remember.

I dunno I think you're blazing through it. It took me 20 or so hours to beat that game but for whatever reason I actually called everyone on the codec after picking up every item.
It sucked that MGS4 pretty much ignored the codec when in MGS3 every character had a specific comment on your camoflauge, sigint would tell you about guns, paramedic would tell you about food, Zero would give you a history lesson on the area, and EVA would tell you about bosses and enemies.

man I surprised this guy got the name Liquid Ocelot first
I mean no offense I just thought the guy to get it would be like living Metal Gear encyclopedia got all dogtags/frogs/whatever the hell else you collect on every game on Eastern European Snake Old Solid Extreme Mode w/ Big Boss and Ninja

You don't need to use the fake death pill, just the revival pill - you're already dead!
-
Well, fake-dead anyway.

I'd rather kill The End with the time-trick than having some Ocelot Unit guys up my arse.
EDIT: Crap, sorry for the double post. I had no idea D:

Im not THAT great. I own MGS:Ghost Babel, MGS:Twin Snakes, MGS2, MGS3(subsistence), and MGS:Portable Ops and I suck at MGS2 and Portable Ops(online mode). I don't own a PS3 yet so MGS4 is out of the question for now, sadly :'(

This. I don't know if MGS4 has a shotgun (probably does, there's quite a few guns in it I guess?) but man. The shotgun is the best fucking weapon ever. Just creep up, BANG, try to avoid his grenade and you can perhaps get another shot in.
It pissed me off to no end in MGS2 Substance when in the VR Missions the cpu had shotguns which dealt an INCREDIBLE LOT of damage but you could never have one. :(

I just played through Snake Eater a few days ago (because I have fucking nothing else to do). I beat The End in about six minutes because I've done it so many times before. I used the tranq gun (not the sniper rifle) and took out his parrot right away. Then I used the thermal goggles for the rest of the time (best object in the game for bosses), and followed his footprints. The guy was a pushover.
I want to get Subsistence though. I hear you can play as the bosses.

MGS4 has several shotguns. There are a ridiculous number of guns in the game (over 40 I think) and many of them have extensive customization options.

In multiplayer, which konami shut down for MGS:PO and MGS4. I mean seriously, I NEVER played MGS3 online and really want to but konami shut the servers down!

You can't play as bosses. They just added a Boss Mode which is just a time trial for a boss you pick to fight. You also have a Hard setting for these time trials, at which point you are sent into the fight with minimal equipment and you have to figure a way to manage through.
