Theatre Releases: Week of July 20 - July 26 By Blitzen

X-Files: I Want To Believe      Overview:
Release Date: July 24, 2008.            Distributor: Fox
MPAA Rating: PG-13                        Genre: Sci-Fi Thriller
            Budget: 35 Million US

Synospis: FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder wants to believe... something, but his partner Scully is "tired of chasing monsters in the dark. Men with flashlights, in a hurry thourhg dark corridors. In the meantime, helicopters fly around and then Billy Connelly shouts at some ice. Sounds gripping. Picks up where the TV series and the last movie left off.

Director: Chris Carter
Producers: Chris Carter
Actors: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly... Continued Cast and Crew List: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443701/fullcredits

Opinion: I have a coworker who is absolutely obsessed with the X-Files, and is in love with David Duchovny. I thank the lord that this show is no longer in syndication, because my already paranoid-delusional brother would go haywire with suspiscion against the establishment if he watched it. I didn't care much for the TV series, but I'll admit that the show was very well made and had some well-written episodes. The first X-Files movie was so lame (magic bees, lol), so a big part of me is wondering how much of this is intended to be a true commerically viable sci-fi thriller and how much of it is just fanservice. I probably won't see it.

Step Brothers      Overview:
Release Date: July 25, 2008.            Distributor: Columbia & Apatow
            MPAA Rating: R                             Genre: Comedy
            Budget: 52 Million US

Synospis: The single parents of two live-at-home man-children are married, forcing the boys to become step brothers and deal with the hilarious results of thier zany adventures.

Director: Adam McKay (Wrote and directed Anchorman & Talledega Nights)
Producers: Judd Apatow (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad), Will Ferrell
Actors: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly ... Continued Cast and Crew List: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0838283/fullcredits

Opinion: What do you guys think? I really have no idea if its going to be as disappointing as Talledega Nights or as well done as Anchorman.

Ok new plan:  instead of creating a new topic every week, I'll just sticky this one and you can edit it in the future hooray

Thank god, I really didn't want to make a new one every week, but I didn't want to be like ROMAN HAI U WANNA STIKEY?
Thank god, because that'd just be plain disturbing.

Unfortunately stickies also basically get no attention.  Maybe this will be added to the GW Round-Up, though.

edit: or maybe this is being ignored because there's already a Hancock topic HUH who knows

I don't pick em' I just reports em'. Well either way I just found it somewhat helpful to post these topics, and I have no solution since making a topic every week will flood. Yet, then there is the problem of the overlooking of stickies. Anyway, even though the topic may get overlooked I would like to get back to the topic on hand if at all possible.

Theatre Releases: Week of July 12 - July 19 By Blitzen

The Dark Knight      Overview:
Release Date: July 18, 2008.            Distributor: Warner
MPAA Rating: PG-13                       Genre: Fantasy Thriller
Run-Time: 152 Minutes (Wow!)         Budget: 182 Million US

Synospis: Our favourite "rich guy with father issues" is unexpectedly challenged when a mysterious criminal mastermind known as the Joker appears in Gotham. Batman's struggle against the Joker becomes deeply personal, forcing him to "confront everything he believes" and to improve his technology to stop the madman's campaign of destruction.

Director: Christopher Nolan
Producers: Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas (who is incidentally his wife)
Actors: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhall, Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain... Continued Cast and Crew List: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/fullcredits

Opinion: Heath Ledger's portral of the Joker is being hyped as haunting. Since I saw Christian Bale in American Psycho every performance thereafter seems wooden and unemotional, but I suppose that fits the Bruce Wayne/Batman role. I was always disappointed between the discrepancy of the mystery solving and brooding film-noir hero that was the Bruce Timm animated Batman and the film portrayals of the same character. I am hoping for good things but at the same time ready to be disappointed.

Space Chimps      Overview:
Release Date: July 18, 2008.            Distributor: Fox
MPAA Rating: G                             Genre: Computer Animated Family
            Budget: 37 Million US

Synospis: When a $5 billion Space Agency probe disappears into an intergalactic wormhole, the agency recruits Ham III, grandson of the first chimpanzee in space, to help retrieve the wayward craft. But Ham is a free–spirited circus performer more interested in zero gravity high jinks than living up to his illustrious heritage. The simian slacker becomes a reluctant hero and learns the true meaning of courage as he and his crewmates, the fearless Lt. Luna and their uptight commander, Titan, risk everything in an effort to save the peaceful inhabitants of a distant planet from an evil dictator. (synopsis from Virgin Media (http://movies.virginmedia.com/synopsis/default.asp?filmid=7590&sec=syn))

Basically, some chimps go into space, hilarity ensues, etc etc.

Producers: Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black 1&2, Enchanted), John H. Williams (Shrek 1&2)
Voice Actors: Andy Samberg (SNL, Hot Rod), Jeff Daniels (Dumb & Dumber, Speed), Patrick Warburton (David Puddy from Seinfeld)... Continued Cast and Crew List: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482603/fullcredits

Opinion: Chimps have been an integral part of a burgeoning niche in Hollywood. The success of titles like MVP: Most Valuable Primate and MVP: Most Vertical Primate show that the chimp sector is steadily growing. I am usually really skeptical of computer animated features. This one shouldn't be treated much differently. I'm going in not expecting much, so hopefully when I eventually do this film (probably while babysitting my nephew) I'll be pleasantly surprised. That having been said, I have never been one for chimps or chimp-related antics.
(lol, Go bananas! I sure will!)

Just noticed this! Bloody stickies. I've been seeing a heap of new movies recently so I'll keep an eye on this.

I've already said what I thought of The Dark Knight in the topic but basically it's really good and Heath Ledger is amazing. Probably deserving of a supporting actor nomination (not a sorry you're dead one either). It was awesome how it focused on all the main characters rather than just Wayne/Batman and they didn't overuse The Joker at all. Couple little quibbles but all round great time.

Not at all interested in Space Chimps. I saw Kung Fu Panda and that was pretty great all round but I'm not a big animated movie fan and this looks a bit shit.

I think that the humor of Stepbrothers is much more on the side of John C Reilly than Will Ferrel, and because of that, I'm looking forward to it. Will Ferrel did a terrible job in Blades of Glory, Semi-Pro, Talladega Nights, etc... but Reilly is picking up the better parts of "Steve Brule" and carrying Ferrel's weight.

X-Files is gonna flop again, so go see StepBrothers!

If you'd like my review I'll gladly post it here, but since this topic is potentially updated for every week, and I happen to be in a weekly movie group, I'll probably not flood this topic with my opinions.

I dunno Wackfiend, so I'm not sure what you're implying, but I'll assume you and Wackfiend were great friends and now we can be too!

wackfiend was a dumb shell of a person with no substance and he liked things that reflected that. for more on: shoes vs. girl, click here (http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=32303.0).

i don't think one post of review would be out of place here, otherwise it is just "oh look a movie i'm interested in. perhaps i will see it." "i feel similarly!" "i disagree, additionally you are a piece of shit."

Well I guess that means me n phonics aren't becoming fast friends.

Here's my stepbros review, it has spoilers:

I'm not going to make an awesome post like the OP, but this week's blockbusters are Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and Swing Vote. I'll be seeing Mummy on Sunday Night, though I didn't like any of the mummy movies prior to this one, and I'm expecting much but awesome fight scenes with Yeti and Dragons.

man that's what i said.  i can't believe enough saw the first one for it to get a sequel, and i DEFINITELY can't believe that enough people saw the fucking mummy sequel for them to turn it into a trilogy.  also go watch the trailer guys it is hysterical.

beyond death...
beyond imagination...
lies an adventure...
that will live...
for all eternity.

just like the most generic, meaningless TRAILER JARGON they could've come up with.

I love the Mummy films. Sure, they're ridiculous and over-the-top, but so what - that's the point. They're just fun to watch and not meant to be taken seriously. Just enjoy the ride.

brendan fraser is probably the worst actor ever. with that said the mummy films manage to completely blow my expectations out of the water and be an even worse film series than brendan fraser is an actor

I liked Brendan Fraser in Encino Man.

I don't though I still thought his acting was pretty crummy. By the way this is my official statement that I reclaiming my topic as my internets work again. Thanks you Blizten A WHOLE LOT for keeping it going in my leave.

I'll update it hopefully by the end of today!

how could you give step brothers an 8/10 Eric? it was without a doubt the most stupid movie i have ever seen. The entire first half of the movie can be described by saying "two mentally challenged people strangling each other for 45 minutes".

THE FRAISE. That's what he's known as to everyone "IN THE KNOW". And, did you guys know that he is such an amazing, talented actor, that he plays JET LI in the movie? Didn't even notice did you? Yeah. That was the Fraise. In fact, he plays 90% of the characters in all of his movies, so think before you judge people guys.
