Ok, so my brother just today sent us this link (he lives in california and is usually more up on this stuff than I am).
My other brother (the one who lives at home with us) told me to come check out this picture. I looked at the first one, and he said he didn't know what to make of it. Then I pointed out the letters "DS" on.
A smile broke out on my face. I did a quick google search. found the same picture... and a link to the square enix website.
I think I almost cried. Thank you merciful square enix!
I seriously hope this is not some cruel joke or something. And I swear, if Square-enix of america does not translate this, I will be utterly pissed and lose all faith in America. I don't care if I can't speak japanese. I'm gonna order it if it doesn't come here.
-
OH GOD I JUST ORGASMED
Not really, but I'm very excited. Drooling! I don't care if its a remake or a new game, thank you squeeny. Just don't screw it up! :gwa:
Edit: I'm so fucking excited right now... God this is too good to be true...
-
If this isn't a 2.5d/3d remake... I couldn't care less. I already have CT on my DS and PSP. This includes the CT with DBZ cinematics taken from Final Fantasy Chronicles (where CT is apparently an FF game).
A whole new game would have been nice though.
-
Yeah, if this is ported with new graphics it might be cool. Other than that though, I'm not too excited since I have it on my PSP.
I'm more anxious to see what it really is. There doesn't seem to be any information on it, so as long as it's not a direct port, it might be really good.
....Okay what the hell is this going to be.
-
I was gonna post this. Fuck you.
Anyways... CHRONO TRIGGER. We're not talking about any particular game here. It's fucking CHRONO TRIGGER.
Chrono Trigger is THE RPG. End of story.
-
I hope it doesn't look like FF3/4... All that fuckin chibi shit, man no thanks. Hopefully something that looks something like that 3d CT remake that had stopped a long time ago.
Waiit... If they stopped this (http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/) years ago, then that means they didn't do it to be fucking assholes... they were planning on doing a remake all this time.
Only problem; This is going to take at least a 2 years to come out(2 and a half or 3 for the translated version if they make one). But I'm still so happy. :)
Edit:
I was gonna post this. Fuck you.

Damn straight!
-
each coming month i love the fact that i bought a ds and an m3 real for it. hells yea.
-
The DS isn't capable of graphics like the Chrono Resurrection project, the best they'll be able to do is what they did to FFIV(if it was 3D).
I really wish this was for the PSP, because the Final Fantasy remakes were actually much better than the FF remakes on the DS(IMO). But anyway, I doubt it's going to be 3D, which I think is great.

hahahah. Yeah, i was kind of expecting that. It surprised me when I was about to post this that no one else had yet.
According to what I could figure out from the japanese website, its 20080707. from what I gather, that's probably when its coming out there. I don't know how long it'll take them to translate.
Well, while I would've liked a full remake of it, I'm actually glad they didn't. While I love my DS a lot, I really don't think the graphics would look that great in 3d on there. I'm sure they're at least going to touch it up with new colors or something. at least make it look better. I loved the 2d on there to begin with, so I'm not affected if it isn't.

Obviously you haven't seen RIZ-ZOAWD (http://www.jeux-france.com/news27976_riz-zoawd-20-images.html). Chrono Trigger DS could look as good, if not better, than this game.
Which is as close as it could get to Chrono Resurrection.
-
I wouldn't mind if the game looked like Chrono Cross. Remember that ASH game Mistwalker was working on?
-
If it's a port I'm actually pissed. Squeeny has been releasing a crapload of ports for years now. Something new that's actually good would be fun!
-
It would be cool even if it was just a port, imo.
There is one thing this must trigger in your mind: Chrono series activity. It hasn't been active for GOD KNOWS HOW LONG. If it becomes active now..
...what's gonna come next?
-
If it's succesful enough, maybe Square-Enix will do that Chrono Break thing everyone wanted a while ago.
-
Obviously you haven't seen RIZ-ZOAWD (http://www.jeux-france.com/news27976_riz-zoawd-20-images.html). Chrono Trigger DS could look as good, if not better, than this game.
I've seen it, but I hope you're not comparing the two. There's a pretty big difference, in my opinion.
By the way, wasn't Chrono Trigger in the top 3 wants for a Virtual Console download? Maybe they knew they could make more money this way?
-
That's why I was so happy with anything chrono trigger related. See, there was that whole "square will only release mainstream stuff" thing awhile back. And if this becomes popular with a new generation, or just hits home with the fanboys, then maybe they'll work their way up to a sequel.
It'd be stupid if they released a sequel now. Yes, I'd be happy, and so would a lot of other people. but honestly... how many people do you think would actually buy it having never heard of the game?
With this, there's hope for the restart of popularity for the game outside of the obvious fanboys (myself included).
-
Jawesome news, it has been too long since I've played this game. Though I wonder if it will be a port or a remake and either way, what enhancements there might be if any.
-
i hope they don't change anything. i hope it's a direct port of the super nintendo chrono trigger. i don't even remember what chrono trigger is about.
-
I've seen it, but I hope you're not comparing the two. There's a pretty big difference, in my opinion.
Oh no, I was just saying I'd imagine Chrono Trigger DS looking something like that. Except a bit darker, and no Oz.

i'm not even gonna write a proper post
all i have to say is
i fucking hate you guy
-
I'm surprised it took them so long. :)
-
If this is true.. Their goes my beloved PSP  Fucken Square, you piece of shit company.
-
DAMMIT, I JUST WAS PLANNING TO MAKE THIS TOPIC.
Ontopic, this is beautiful news. My eyes teared up 'n everything. But I don't think this is going to be a direct port, because they'd be making WAAAY too much hype around it with the little website and stuff, while they can just go announce "HAY GUYS WE'RE PORTING CT".
-
You guys are going a bit off the deep end.. Orgasms? Crying? It's just Chrono Trigger.. I'd just be moderately happy if my favourite RPG was remade or received a proper sequel.
Anyway, if this is a port.. Which I think it is, judging by what Square-Enix has released on the DS already, then big whoop. Instead of rehashing a 13-14 year old game.. Make a god damn sequel. That would be pretty great, and it would probably make me dig out my DS, wherever it is.
-
oh my gosh this is "zetta" awesome
-
What? A Chrono Trigger remake? Bah I've heard this a hundred times before and they always end with me on the floor with my head between my legs crying, I'm not falling for it this time... *Go to the links in the 1st post*
OH MY FREAK'N GOD!!!
OH MY FREAK'N GOD!!!
OH MY FREAK'N GOD!!!
This is... real!?
I don't care if it's just a straight up remake of the old game I'm gonna buy 10 copies of this game and hype the shit up outta it to everyone I know (CT is my most favorite game of all time heck it's the only game I'd consider myself a fanboy of, hell I just beat it again Monday and I'm still super hyped for this). ANYTHING related to the CT license coming from Square-Enix is awesome news to me and maybe if this game does extremely good the chances of a sequel will go up (heck we both know it wouldn't live up to the original but I'm tired of FF getting shitty sequels, it's time to let CT and some of there other games like Einhander and Vagrant Story have their time in the shit).
You guys are going a bit off the deep end.. Orgasms? Crying? It's just Chrono Trigger.. I'd just be moderately happy if my favourite RPG was remade or received a proper sequel.
Yeah what freaks, anything less than a crying orgasm is an insult.
-
This is weird, maybe it's just deja vu but I could have sworn I played this game fucking years ago
-
SquareEnix remaking a game
this is TOTALLY SHOCKING NEWS HERE
-
Obviously you haven't seen RIZ-ZOAWD (http://www.jeux-france.com/news27976_riz-zoawd-20-images.html). Chrono Trigger DS could look as good, if not better, than this game.
man what did they do the jeux france, the layout kind of sucks now, you can't sort by platform as far as I can see.
also this is unexciting, it would be cool if they were making a new game in the series.
-

I really couldn't help it. I just went to that site and I heard the ticking sound and I just couldn't stop my eyes from tearing up. Yay, freaky gamer. Also, I am going to agree with you on the sequel stuff.
-
Whatever happened to it?
It came out in Japan and is basically a not-as-good version of Bahamut Lagoon.
Also, CTDS is coming to America this holiday season, not a remake but an enhanced port.

-
I just hope they add so much extra crap that the game will be 25% more awesome.

Oboy, a direct port with an extra dungeon and touch features, I was hoping they'd at least put some effort into this release but I guess not. This'll be yet another game for the rom list.
-
If it's a dungeon like those random-floors-of-fun dungeons in the Final Fantasy GBA remakes, I'm happy. There were some really fun ones in there.
-
Things SE could have added into this game:
New playable character (Schala anyone?)
Completely overhauled graphics (3d, 2.5d like Chainer said, or Chrono Cross style like Marcus suggested)
Extra side quests during and at the end of the game (rescue Schala perhaps?)
More endings
New minigames (the ones at the fair are ok but are pretty simple)
Extra content at the end of the game that sets up the events of Chrono Cross
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Things like that is what I was hoping SE would do with this game, but instead they're just doing the copout and making money off of it. This release could have been really good, there should have been a reason for me to want to buy it. But now I'll only be getting the rom so I don't support their effort in making a half-assed port.
-
I just hope the dual screen is implemented well, and not just maps and menus like other SE DS games =\

Yep, thats pretty disappointing, but not overly surprising. SE owns the RPG genre, and you know why? They can make a great game, about 10 years down the road they can port that game, with only really adding a new translation, and MAYBE some unlockables from beating the game. Another 5 years, they can port it again, and add a new dungeon, a couple of extra items (MAYBE!). And people will still eat it up. Congratulations Square-Enix, you are the EA of RPGs. So in another 2 years or so, they will remake CT again with 2.5D or 3D graphics, and people will still want it. If no one believes me just take a look at FFIV. That game has been at home on 4 different systems, (SNES,PSX,GBA,DS). It followed the identical pattern as well for each port, (SNES -> PSX new translation, PSX ->GBA, GBA -> DS 2.5D graphics). I know you were looking forward to revamped graphics Izekeal. But don't fret. Just cuz your not getting them this time around, just wait 2 and a half years. Then youll get them.
If you dont own a legit copy of CT, go out and get this port then, might as well get the extra dungeon and its an amazing game. If you already own it on SNES or PSX. Dont waste your money, and dont support the EA approach please.
-
I used to own this game, but my bastard parents pawned the game along with my SMRPG, and Earthbound and it was never seen again, I was so sore about that for months, I would never speak to them, that's how pissed I was! Now this DS version, I'm hearing of a bonus dungeon, so that is a bit of a plus, but even then, its not enough, if they are to remake it, they should remake the sprites and everything and give it a more enhanced feel to it. (I wish that 3D game was still going, I would've bought that 3D one the moment it came out!)
-
I don't really see how they could improve the original game, but it's great that a new generation will be able to enjoy it!
-
This is just an 'enhanced' port?
Oh never mind. I didn't orgasm. I didn't cry. I didn't have a crying orgasm. I lied. I might get it when it's marked down to like $5 though. Or not.
I'll never be optamistic with Square-Enix ever again.
-

Are you surprised by this? Man, I saw it coming. This is the same company that, two weeks ago, declared that they would stop releasing original, creative games, so yeah!
-
Someone at another forum said this but I'll say it here to.. This is being put out because they are making a new Chrono game. I wonder if Cross will go on the PSP cause this is on The Nintendo DS.
-
Hmmm....can you get a link to the source of that? That would be interesting if true. Also its untrue that SQUENIX isnt making anything original or creative ever again. They are making some more games for the 360, and there is no way that they will survive on 360 with the same old stuff they do on PS. Probably gonna have to do some gun fighting, space action RPG
-
I don't really understand what you are all raving about, this and all the other old Square games have already been ported to million different consoles and the ports usually blew ass (Final Fantasy 6 for PSX is a prime example of how you can port a SNES game to a more powerful console and yet make it lag like fuck due to reasons unknown to man).
Also I'd say this game DOES NOT interest anyone who hasn't already played it on the SNES and the sad fact is that if there is no significant improvements then sorry but people will just download the game on their SNES or PSX emulators if they wanna play it.
-
Someone at another forum said this but I'll say it here to.. This is being put out because they are making a new Chrono game. I wonder if Cross will go on the PSP cause this is on The Nintendo DS.
I just checked Playstation's store in the PSOne Classics list... and the don't have CC on there... which surprised me... because like many other people, that was the first game I ripped when Popstation first game out early last year.
-
Jeeze it's just an extra dungeon?
Thanks square for ruining everything, I'll never play your games ever again.
Fucking Cunts.
-
Another remake from Square, why am I not surprised. They lack the ability to make anything new worth a damn so here we are. I guess this is part of there "Creativity" purging.
-
I was hoping for something more. :(
Just a new dungeon?! Wtf. Not even enhanced graphics... that's it, I'm bombing SE headquarters. Who's with me?!
-
Someone at another forum said this but I'll say it here to.. This is being put out because they are making a new Chrono game. I wonder if Cross will go on the PSP cause this is on The Nintendo DS.
I call bull on that man. There isnt much floating about a 3rd Chrono game.
-
(Final Fantasy 6 for PSX is a prime example of how you can port a SNES game to a more powerful console and yet make it lag like fuck due to reasons unknown to man).
This is because they didn't rebuild it or recode it or anything, they just took their ROM, made a PS1-SNES emulator (like the indie made SNES Station but of course theirs is the professional one) and just made the emulator run the rom, and thats it. Thats why FF4, FF5, FF6 AND CT lagged like hell.
-
I'm torn. On the one hand I want to support the series for a possible sequel and it's a great game and all, but on the other hand Squenix, previously one of my favourite companies, have created hype yet again for a bullshit project.
I don't agree with everyone totally ripping on them because FFXII was pretty awesome (they totally switched up the gameplay which was like wtf coming from them) and by all accounts FFTA2 is pretty great as well. I will agree that they're becoming complete whores though with the ports and remakes, it's just becoming fucking annoying. FFIII for DS was fine because that was never released in English territories previous but with the huge amount of ports they've already put across for a bunch of games and the lazy FFVII spinoffs it's just getting a bit tiresome.
I think this might be good as it'll bring Chrono Trigger to a newer generation, but honestly to them it would've just been lets make some money, ignoring that they're basically giving yet another big FUCK YOU to the fans.
bleh, i was intrigued at first but now i just feel dirty
-

Wow. Square soft was even lazy back then... Should of known.
And the article (http://kotaku.com/5021416/square-enix-confirms-chrono-trigger-ds)(Everything in the darker green box), though it sounds very much like they are calling it a port, doesn't specifically say that it's just a port with a few added features. If you read it closely it says
This newly revamped edition maintains all of the game's original elements and spirit while
introducing the portability, dual-screen presentation and Touch-Screen functionality of Nintendo DS. Players will soon be able to rediscover the exhilarating RPG experience, breathtaking storyline and innovative gameplay in the palm of their hands.
Also
Remastered exclusively for Nintendo DS
They are being very vague about it... It doesn't say anywhere in the article that its a port(as in old graphics, sounds ect...). And, though I'm probably very wrong, it might possible maybe be a full blown remake. And while Kotaku calls it a port, thats just Kotaku. Maybe Square-enix wants us to think it's just an 'enhanced' port, just to suprise us and say "Oh yea, this is a remake. :)"
... Wow even I realize how unlikely that would be. >_>; You know just forget it. That proves nothing... It's just a port with a new dungeon(Probably that Zeal prison they didn't add to the final version that was found in the beta rom or Singing Mountain, which doesn't even make it a new dungeon, just something they should've had in the original!) and wifi features(Probably trade your silver points with your friends for I-TEHMSSS!), just so they could sell it for $30 rather than just putting it on the Wii's virtual console and selling it for $8.
fuckin lazy assholes.
Edit: This makes me sound like an asshole myself actually. Don't get me wrong, I'm super happy that anything Chrono is getting released, and I'm happy that it's on the DS and not the PSP, but this is the only time I ever wanted a remake. It makes me kind of upset... After seeing how good Chrono Trigger could look in 3d from Chrono Resurrection, I would of love to see how it would look on the DS(Most likely something like Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker).
-
Who the fuck hasn't played CT at this point? I guess an EXTRA DUNGEON is a teeny incentive for old fans like myself to go back again, but at full price? It's a 12 year old game. It's already very possible and very easy to play it portable, it's available on the PS1/2/3.. I guess this basically just falls into SE's new BUSINESS STRATEGY of whoring themselves out on an epic level. I mean, FF1 and 2 are available on HOW many systems at this point?
Square Enix is the corporate equivalent of a cum soaked prostitute, and just about as respectable.
-
they call me gato
i have metal joints
beat me up and
earn 15 silver points
i'm sure i got it wrong
i don't think you'll be trading silver points on wifi
they last you 30 minutes into the game
-
Congratulations Square-Enix, you are the EA of RPGs.
Agreed.
-
Haha, remember when this company used to have some dignity and integrity?
Man, I miss the old days (SNES era).
-
people really need to stop buying their ports so maybe squenix would use their effort on something else.
-
That's why I shall only download them.
-
YEAH DOES ANYONE REMEMBER WHEN THEY WERE ACTUALLY MAKING THESE GAMES AND NOT JUST PORTING THEM EVERY FEW MONTHS?
-
but this is the only time I ever wanted a remake. It makes me kind of upset... After seeing how good Chrono Trigger could look in 3d from Chrono Resurrection, I would of love to see how it would look on the DS(Most likely something like Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker).
Yeah this is basically how I feel now (the initial " OMG Square is releasing something CT related" hyperness of my other post has passed and my brain has returned). If anything deserves a remake it's CT (and SoM). If this turns out to just be a straight up port I'll probably still buy it though (as long as it's a good port), it'd be nice to play CT on a handheld (I'm not much into current gen emulation, and I can't shake the feeling that if this does well it might lead to a bigger CT project).
-
YEAH DOES ANYONE REMEMBER WHEN THEY WERE ACTUALLY MAKING THESE GAMES AND NOT JUST PORTING THEM EVERY FEW MONTHS?
heh
I actually wish square would concentrate on making games for value these days and not just SUEPR COOL GRAPHIX and features and shit.
-
sweet lets all get pumped about the continuing trend of square-enix riding on the wave of games they made when they weren't a terrible developer.
seriously, chrono trigger is pretty OLD HAT at this point. you can play it on the snes, you can play it on your pc, you can play it on your psp with either the snes version or the ps1 version, and you can probably even play it on your ds since i think it has an snes emulator out for it. this is like their best example of MILKING yet because chrono trigger is fucking everywhere and everyone has played it, and yet people are going to run out and spend money on it because now it's for a different console!!!! they're probably going to make the dialogue worse when they port it anyway, so i don't really get how this is anything but bad news.
-
there was a chappelle show sketch about how black people spend all their money on rims and gold. white people spend all their money on video game re-releases.
-
Oh. My. Flippin. GOD!!!!!! Just orgasmed all over the screen. XD. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaallelujah! This is what gamers have been asking for for OVER A DECADE!
-
I say they should throw the original up on the VC for now and give the DS one the graphics updates and bonuses it deserves.
I doubt they would throw it up until after this bad boy has been in stores for a while.
I wouldn't mind seeing an Evermore remake as well, its only sin was being made instead of a US SD3 release.
That or a remake of the Soul blazer games (well at least Gaia).
-
I think it is the funniest thing possible that between Chrono Resurrection, Chrono Crisis, and CT: Prophet's Guile, Square-Enix has put less effort into building upon their own franchise than people who originally played the games when they were in elementary school
-
Well, I think the magazine's scan pretty much confirms it's simply a port and not a remake, like FFIII or FFIV:
(https://legacy.gamingw.net/etc/www.gamekyo.com/Webmasters/Images/72551020080703_170508_0_small.jpeg) (http://www.gamekyo.com/images0_4_28155.html)
Unless it's a screenshot from the old Chrono Trigger... :(
-
oh no, I'm so disappointed :(
-
Well that sucks.
-
Too bad. That new dungeon better be good.
-
Jawesome news, it has been too long since I've played this game. Though I wonder if it will be a port or a remake and either way, what enhancements there might be if any.

aren't image macros warnable.
if they aren't make them.
also yeah who gives a fuck about this. they aren't even updating the graphics or whatever. I'm more amazed some of you would be like OH MY GOD YES THE SAME GAME to begin with though. isn't this the same crowd that says GRAPHICS DONT MATTER ITS ABOUT THE GAMES, just play the original.
oh wait a NEW DUNGEON fuuuuuuuck you.
-
Maybe you use the stylus to click on the monsters to attack and stuff? Heh. Wonder how that would play out.
-
Hmm, I have to admit
when if I buy this I'm gonna feel pretty cheated. I mean if you look at what other companies are doing with they're classics such as the Megaman and Megaman X Collection, Metal Slug Anthology and Sonic Mega Collection which will cost the same as this (probably less actually) but give you mulitple games in one package buying this feels kinda stupid. This should be part of a SquareEnix Classics Collection or something with SoM, IoG and other games like some that never came out in America like Rudra, SD3 and Terranigma. CT by itself should have been a downloadable game for 8 dollars or something not a full retail product. I expected atleast a graphical update (I.E. kinda like how Nintendo did with Metroid Zero Mission) maybe even some kinda 3D. They'd better announce that this game will have an entire new quest with new time periods or something on the 7th or else I'll have to not buy it on the 1st day but the 2nd question purchasing this.
CT DESERVES A PROPER REMAKE WAY MORE THAN FFIV OR EVEN FFVII!!!
I think it is the funniest thing possible that between Chrono Resurrection, Chrono Crisis, and CT: Prophet's Guile, Square-Enix has put less effort into building upon their own franchise than people who originally played the games when they were in elementary school
It's actually funny I'm more hyped for Chrono Crisis than this (probably because I've beaten this game like a million times since 1995).
-
Maybe you use the stylus to click on the monsters to attack and stuff? Heh. Wonder how that would play out.
I'd guess like every single DS game ever released. Ever. So... so innovative.
-
It'll be cool to have Chrono Trigger in my pocket, but I'm not paying $35 for it. :\
-
I NEED to be able to play Chrono Trigger WHEREVER I am. WHENEVER I want. Period.
-

i don't really see why that would be enough to warn someone for at all other than the fact that KEZAY ANNOYS YOU by liking this which i don't think is a warnable offense (anymore....heh) sooo.
-
It'll be cool to have Chrono Trigger in my pocket, but I'm not paying $35 for it. :\
square actually charges 39.99 for their new ds games
I NEED to be able to play Chrono Trigger WHEREVER I am. WHENEVER I want. Period.
i know the best part is when you're on the bus and some fat sweaty guy next to you looks over your shoulder and goes "OMG KRONO TRIGGAR! BRINGS BACK MEMORIEZZZ!!"
and then the two of you can discuss the philosophical and scientific importance of NU
-
square actually charges 39.99 for their new ds games
man this shit should be against the law. i paid $40 for children of mana, and you know that game sucked BAWLLZ.
last time i'll buy a squeeny game first day it comes out...
-
yeah its almost like you shouldve done some actual research on a game before you comitted to buying it or something. If this is a remake that'd be pretty dope, if not i don't give a damn.
-

well i figured it'd be a safe purchase, being a mana game and all.
i mean, all of them weren't bad. secret of mana was awesome, seikendensetsu 3 was awesome, legend of mana was good, ect... see what I mean? should've known better though...
-
isn't this the same crowd that says GRAPHICS DONT MATTER ITS ABOUT THE GAMES, just play the original.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to experiance the same game in a different perspective. That's why I am eagerly awaiting the 3D FFIV remake (with voice acting and cutscenes OMG) for DS that's coming out later this month.
-
i don't really see why that would be enough to warn someone for at all other than the fact that KEZAY ANNOYS YOU by liking this which i don't think is a warnable offense (anymore....heh) sooo.
Bah, well for what it's worth I'll avoid the "image macro" thing and leave my love for all things TWEWY in my Avvy and sig after this. (http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/2188/zettacooltm5.gif)
Anyway, as for the topic at hand, bummer that it's just a porting job and I'm definitely not paying $40 bucks for it if that's the case though it gives my younger bro something ot strive for as he has never even played Chrono Trigger. I however, shall be waiting patiently for the day it drops in price as despite it all I still wouldn't mind owning it portable-wise, for myself.
-
square actually charges 39.99 for their new ds games
Seriously? I'm out. FOLD.
-
i don't really see why that would be enough to warn someone for at all other than the fact that KEZAY ANNOYS YOU by liking this which i don't think is a warnable offense (anymore....heh) sooo.
i wasn't being serious but i actually do think it was a warnable offense in the past!

do you guys really get off on remakes like this? when they rereleased Star Wars with EDITED LUKE SCREAMS, you must have lost your shit huh!
I can't imagine paying 50 bucks for shit I've already played just because it's shinier. I can't imagine paying over five dollars really!
-
square actually charges 39.99 for their new ds games
Whoa didn't know that, heck come to think about it the last time I bought a handheld SquareEnix game new was probably hmm... Sword of Mana I guess? So that's basically what, $8.00 which is around what the game should cost at the most if it were on VC + $31.99 for the extra dungeon and stylus implementations? That dungeon better be game of the year material by itself or else I'm gonna feel really cheated...
I usually don't buy ports or even remakes of games I already own or have beaten but CT is special. Still, making this purchase is getting harder and harder.
-
Yeah, if this is ported with new graphics it might be cool. Other than that though, I'm not too excited since I have it on my PSP.
I'm more anxious to see what it really is. There doesn't seem to be any information on it, so as long as it's not a direct port, it might be really good.
....Okay what the hell is this going to be.
According to a recent episode of X-Play I watched(I HIGHLY don't trust them though, so don't get your hopes up) it will be a port but like recent GBA and DS FF ports, there will be an extra dungeon. I swear if square changes ANYTHING in the gameplay and story I will stab the creator to death(not really). Personally I don't think Chrono Trigger is my favorite RPG, that would be Earthbound and CT would be at 2nd.
-
Yeah I already know. It's been confirmed already that it's just a direct port with a new dungeon.
After 13 years, the price for Chrono Trigger has fallen from $60-$70 to $40.
Amazing. At least Square got it right on the fourth try with FFIV.
-
i wasn't being serious but i actually do think it was a warnable offense in the past!

FF4 was pretty much the first RPG I seriously got into and beat. I'd buy the remake. Part for nostalgia, part for curiousity, part because I just really enjoyed the original. I don't get off on it; I don't even own a DS and don't really plan on buying one. I'm pretty sure I won't bother trying to emulate it. But if I did have a DS, I'd buy the FF4 remake.
But this? This is a fucking port. Don't let any of the buzzword bullshit fool you. it's a port of a 12 year old game. And they are charging full price for it.
-
this is actually sweet, id buy it if i had a DS. i still have it for super nintendo though!
people seem to HATE chrono cross after playing chrono trigger (like they should be doing) but man i like them both a lot, im actually replaying chrono cross in my spare time now, whenever i am bored.
-
Getting it.
Don't care that it's a port.
CT deserves to be bought again.
I must have it.
-
You know, thats true. For the amazing quality Chrono Trigger is and experiencing such a great game, it deserves to be bought another time around.
I've never played a game all the way through as many times as I have Chrono Trigger.
-
No it doesn't you fucking idiots. What's wrong with you? Do you think this is going to encourage them to make another? No. This is going to encourage them to port the thing to the Wii or some other console.
What's wrong with you? It's just corporate bullshit to get your money, not some way to SUPPORT THE GAME. Are any of the creators still even part of Square?
-
how about this pidegtotto21:
frank sinatra? his music is at least 20 years old. the godfather part II? it's at least 20 years old. both are still considered "classics of culture"
chrono tirgger? 12 years old. it's a gaming cla\ssic. live with it.
great argument pal. i've already got 6 copies of chrorno tirgerr for various consoles, and i can't waitr to buy it again. i think this is gonna be the best purchase yet.
-
No it doesn't you fucking idiots. What's wrong with you? Do you think this is going to encourage them to make another? No. This is going to encourage them to port the thing to the Wii or some other console.

dude, your looking at the big picture to much,, some of us like the game alot and some never bought it before ( roms ) and now like to play it again on a different concole/handheld, I peronally would emulate it on a PSP, but I can udnerstand swordofkings128's point of view.
so stop worrying to much about the big picture, unless like your dick tingle everytime someone makes alot of money
-
so play it on one of those multiple ports that already exists, you moron, don't buy it AGAIN so they think this bullshit add a dungeon crap works. do you not understand how basic CAPITALISM works?
-
Do they not even know how Square-Enix works?
Hmm FF6, I have it for the snes, the psx, the gba and now they're gunna release it on the ngage!
Quick gotta buy that n-gage for the extra costumes. Those pretty costumes.
-

And if it gets ported to the Wii, I'll probably buy it again there, too.
-
And if it gets ported to the Wii, I'll probably buy it again there, too.
Jesus fucking christ, man.
-
Well. I'M certainly gonna get this. but who says i'm gonna buy it :naughty:
-
Japanese Trailer. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/35888.html
I think they should have at least touched up the 2D.
-
I didn't feel happy when I saw that trailer. The complete opposite, I've lost all faith in SE. Man... I think I'm genuinely sad. :(
;_;
-
I never finished chrono trigger even though it seemed pretty cool so maybe I'll finally get around to buying an R4 or whatever and pirate this!
-
And if it gets ported to the Wii, I'll probably buy it again there, too.
good job sticking it to me and further degrading the state of the gaming industry I guess???
-
Jesus fucking christ, man.
good job sticking it to me and further degrading the state of the gaming industry I guess???
Well, I don't buy many games, so, might as well buy the games I like, you know?
-
or just PLAY THE GAME IN ONE OF THE MULTIPLE CHEAPER/FREE OPTIONS you idiot.
-
or just PLAY THE GAME IN ONE OF THE MULTIPLE CHEAPER/FREE OPTIONS you idiot.
Hey, I want the extra content, altered translation and whatnot.
-
I only like one game. Instead of buying other games, I just buy that one game on as many systems as I can.
Luckily that game is Pac-Man.
My favourite addition in that series is Mrs. Pac-Man. The introduction of a female pac-man revoklutionised the gameplay and brought the art to such depths I never dreamed possible.
Actually bad analogy as the X-box live version did actually majorly change the game, and give it a new direction. Something Square-Enix are strongly opposed to doing.
-
40 dollars. for a dungeon. for a game you've played already. supporting a trend that essentially represents the worst of humanity (NEW WITH ONE THING ADDED).
I'm glad I was born with a sense of morality.
-
I wonder how many days you could feed a family in Africa for 40 bucks.
but a DUNGEON oh fuck me that's totally worth it.
-
I wish I had $40 :(
-
I got Dracula X Chronicles for PSP (Rondo of Blood 2.5d remake and Symphony of the night) and Symphony of the Night for Xbox 360 from live. Does this make me a bad person?
-
I got Dracula X Chronicles for PSP (Rondo of Blood 2.5d remake and Symphony of the night) and Symphony of the Night for Xbox 360 from live. Does this make me a bad person?
Well see, that was a good remake. That's like having Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross in one package with a graphical update. This does not have that. =(
Edit: Oh I see you got Symphony of the Night twice. :fogetcool:
By the way, that trailer really sucked. I love Chrono Trigger a lot, but come on. They didn't even show off any features with the DS(if there were any new features). It felt like a fan trailer on Youtube.
-
but a DUNGEON oh fuck me that's totally worth it.
Yep. Sarcastic or no, that's pretty much how I feel about it.
-
yeah and you're an idiot, how is that hard to grasp.
seriously you are the worst type of consumer and person, shoot yourself in the head.
-
yeah and you're an idiot, how is that hard to grasp.
seriously you are the worst type of consumer and person, shoot yourself in the head.
:fogetlaugh: If you had asked nicely
-
no seriously how do you justify this shit to yourself? are you just filthy rich, in which case you are human scum anyways chances are, or are you seriously this goddam stupid? a dungeon, 40 dollars, fucking christ.
-
no seriously how do you justify this shit to yourself? are you just filthy rich, in which case you are human scum anyways chances are, or are you seriously this goddam stupid? a dungeon, 40 dollars, fucking christ.
Like I said, I don't spend much money on video games. I'm not rich, so I suppose I fall into the latter category.
I love this game. Yup, it's probably a dumb financial move, but I enjoy it THAT much. So who cares?
-
but you're supporting NOTHING BUT BAD SHIT. love the game. good for you. I like it a bit myself! but you're needlessly throwing money away and encouraging them that by adding a shallow fucking dungeon people will buy anything. most of the creators aren't even part of Square anymore (I'd say all, but I think the artist still hangs around)! you're LITERALLY FUNDING CORPORATE BULLSHIT by buying this game again, and you seem to think that's not shit in every way.
-
I agree.. Idiot. Seriously why? Isn't the artist the guy from DBZ?
-

Okay. Guess I'll have to agree to disagree.
EDIT: Have a nice day. Seems like you need one.
-
Man, It's his money. No need to be anal about it. Some people...
I agree.. Idiot. Seriously why? Isn't the artist the guy from DBZ?
Yes, he also does Dragon Quest.
-
Yeah! Some ppl...... giving a shit about the behaviour of big players in the games industry and horrible people who encourage it
Fuck you small time ashole pidgeotto, maybe you should go and take a "skill pill" I bet you couldn't even REACH the new dungeon
-
^Yeah, and GW was all for the Disgaea PSP port.
-
Exactly!!! It's one attitude for disgaea and another for CT is it pigeotto? Fucking hypocrite, you're as bad as hitler soon you'll be telling us what video games we can buy and gassing those who think differently huh? Well FU
-
^I can't tell if your serious are being sarcastic.
-
I don't joke about Chrono Trigger.
-
serious business
-
For everyone bitching about people going to buy this:
Shut the fuck up. If you don't want to spend that much on it, don't. Just don't spaz out at people for doing what they won't with their own money.
Also I will be buying this cause it's Chrono Trigger.
-
If its $20 its bought.
-
replaying the game on my emulator(my snes died like a month ago but i still own the cart) has only made me want to buy the DS version more...
i might already own it, but if i'm buying Chrono Trigger, at least i know i'm buying a great fucking game.
pigeotto: okay man, just don't buy it. guess you don't like great fucking games enough huh?
-
are you all seriously this fucking stupid.
this is unbelievable. you have all played the product in question, they add ONE SHINY TRINKET, and bam, 40 dollars.
how do people like you exist? have you met a homeless person before? or learned the value of a dollar at all. jesus christ, it's a DUNGEON. videogames as a whole require some justification, but all of you are buying a DUNGEON for forty fucking dollars and Square gets to rake in the cash for a game where the original team is GONE. no one who made Chrono Trigger benefits from your purchase.
the worst part is no one here has a decent justification at all. you're supposed to be a community of game makers and you're all absolutely, 100%, okay with rebuying the same game with A SINGLE NEW ADDITION, just because it's new. not even made by the same people. it's an addition. and then you idiots are seriously pulling the ITS HIS MONEY card, you fucking morons, of course it's his money, and I'm telling him he's spending it poorly. GASP congratulations I've had to explain the basic concept of discussion to you, perhaps next we will tackle something as difficult as disagreement.
don't buy a port because they ADDED A DUNGEON. I can't believe anyone above the age of 10 has to have this explained to them. my god how many of you went to buy MCRIB SANDWICHES because they were new? does marketing seriously work that well on you idiots? I could shill you out of your entire life savings without even trying just by saying BRAND NEW: NOTHING IN A BOX! YOU HAVE IT AT HOME BUT THIS ONE...COULD HAVE SOMETHING IN IT!
christ you're supposed to be people who actually have an investment in gaming's future too. I seriously cannot believe logic this flawed could exist in people seeking to improve the industry.
NOW RELEASED: CHRONO TRIGGER FOR PSP: CRONO SAYS THREE WORDS IN THIS ONE.
-
i spend hundreds of dollars to perpetuate bad things being made don't be upset guys its my money... . .
maybe square-enix wouldn't make so many ports if people didn't buy them just because NEW DUNGEON (THAT WILL PROBABLY USE ALREADY EXISTING GRAPHICS FOR EVERYTHING AND HAVE NOTHING REALLY SPECIAL (STORY ETC) TO IT). as it is you are just contributing to the oversaturation of the game market which totally did so much good for it the last time. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_crash_of_1983)
why make new games...stupid people will buy the same shit, it costs almost nothing to make (hint: they are going to use already existing graphics maybe a palette swap or two for this dungeon, with no story, guarantee it) because they just emulate it and change it a bit, and they make big bucks.
-

here I know people had a hard time with basic logic and thought process but we're going to go to econ 101 really quick and just shorten your sentence and see if any of the idiot crew can pick this up:
square-enix wouldn't make so many ports if people didn't buy them
now let's see if they can figure out how ports are a bad thing.
(here's a hint: what other things can a company make other than decade old ports? the correct answer is???)
-
(here's a hint: what other things can a company make other than decade old ports? the correct answer is???)
heh...nintendo makes a killing in Japan off trading cards...is the answer...trading cards?
also i updated my post it's pretty bad.
seriously this is just awful, I'd understand if you waited til it was like maybe 10$, maybe, but for 40$? You're just letting them rob you blind man.
-
fuck off. if you only want to talk about how totally awesome this port will be then go to a chrono trigger fansite. last I checked we were still allowed to complain about shit and discuss things freely here.
Complaining is one thing, throwing insults at someone else because they made a different decision from you is another.
-
that's the part that really fucking gets me. 40 dollars is a full price for a game (unless it's a ps3 one which is like 70 minimum but that's another thing), but all the development on the game is done. as I've said over and over, you're supporting NONE of the original creators, all of whom have left Squaresoft, and the chances they contacted the remnants of the old team and said HEY GUYS WANNA WORK ON THE PORT is laughable. this is the same game, PLUS a new dungeon made not by the original creators, and they basically have the audacity to charge full price.
will there be a small audience who, having never played the game but heard of it, will finally play it? yes.
how INCREDIBLY SMALL will that audience be? minimal.
the majority of the customers will be people who have played the game and will give Square Enix full, 40 dollar price, for a single dungeon.
most people would have the ethics not to buy and support such a flagrant example of corporate fuckery. if not the ethics, the economic sense. if not that, the general embarassment they'd feel.
NOT GAMING WORLD THOUGH.
Complaining is one thing, throwing insults at someone else because they made a different decision from you is another.
oh boo hoo someone called you a moron because you threw 40 dollars in the toilet and helped push the industry into the shitter even further. if the shoe fits, champ.

1) Yuji Hori works for Square so one person is there.
2) I said that if the game is $20 I would buy it.

semper games.

Pretty much, this. But still, aside from the fact that it is their money and they can spend it how they see fit it's obviously that much of the appeal of the game (at least around here and even at other sites) is due to the nostalgia factor which could be the result of a variety of things. Maybe they are just big fans of the original game, or maybe they've played it before and want the opportunity to do so again legitimately and within their means. Then again, maybe they just have the cash to burn for an excellent game. Granted, it's kind of a double edged sword because of the potential benefits of buying it or not buying it. Too much in the way of personal morals and values are being interjected when those on the other side of the fence are simply in it to once again get involved with something they have a pretty good hunch about that they'll enjoy and is apparently worth the price of entry to do so.
-
if you have 40$ to burn, go help some homeless people or some shit. you already know how the stupid game goes, and the stupid dungeon isn't going to add shit to the game anyways.
-
Man, I wish that, FOR ONCE, everyone decided to NOT BUY this shit. Then, I bet there would be a 99% change of a full 3D remake.
-
Man, I wish that, FOR ONCE, everyone decided to NOT BUY this shit. Then, I bet there would be a 99% change of a full 3D remake.
lol no.
square-enix would just make new ports of Final Fantasy, since people still buy that shit too.
its sad that fans have invested more work into being a good new Chrono game than SE themselves.
-
if you have 40$ to burn, go help some homeless people or some shit. you already know how the stupid game goes, and the stupid dungeon isn't going to add shit to the game anyways.
There is always that option among many others, after all it doesn't necessarily have to rest entirely within having the cash to burn if it's something they really want. Personally speaking, I'm not the type to feel as if cash can burn a hole in my pocket and thus I should spend it when and where I can. I'd sooner toss it into savings if that were the case, provided that were the choice I'd settle on.
Man, I wish that, FOR ONCE, everyone decided to NOT BUY this shit. Then, I bet there would be a 99% change of a full 3D remake.
To be honest, I can see really only the die hard fans going after this to begin with, partly because S-E rarely ever largely advertises their DS stuff unless it's something "big" like FF III or (likely) FF IV/ DQ IX. But S-E has been on a remake/porting spree for a few years now with any of the "new" stuff they've tossed in being slow burners sales wise.
-
What I want to know is WHY is a pathetic game like FINAL FANTASY 3 got a fucking full 3D remake with all the bells and whistles, and yet, a timeless classic piece of a gem like CT got a fucking shitty PORT?
-
What do you mean by pathetic game?
-
I've never actually played Chrono Trigger, so this is my chance to experience everyone else's memories. I'm pretty pumped, but not about the 40$ price tag. Oh well, I guess. As long as it's a good game!
-
It's at times like these I'm glad I have an R4DS. I can understand those wanting to buy it, some people like collecting and owning the games, and adding Chrono Trigger to your collection isn't a bad thing, although it is supporting shittyness. I see and understand things from both sides.
Is it for sure only just a port? Can somebody link me to the details saying it's just a port with a new dungeon?
-
What I want to know is WHY is a pathetic game like FINAL FANTASY 3 got a fucking full 3D remake with all the bells and whistles, and yet, a timeless classic piece of a gem like CT got a fucking shitty PORT?
Because the 3D on the DS is shitty. Though I DO think they should've redrawn the sprites and environments and made it look prettier.

NOW RELEASED: CHRONO TRIGGER FOR PSP: CRONO SAYS THREE WORDS IN THIS ONE.
now thats just a fucking rip off because 1 of the endings crono has a line were he says about 5 words.
only 3? not worth the money man. :tsk:
-
I've never actually played Chrono Trigger, so this is my chance to experience everyone else's memories. I'm pretty pumped, but not about the 40$ price tag. Oh well, I guess. As long as it's a good game!
why don't you just download the fucking rom?
you realize all of you guys can just type CHRONO TRIGGER in google and save yourselves $40.
or even better: download the snes rom and just send a $40 check to square in the mail. not only will you save them the production costs of making this port you'll get to experience the game too!!
-
Final Fantasy III DS: Full 3D Remake
Final Fantasy IV DS: Full 3D Remake + Voice Acting, etc
Dragon Quest IV DS: Full 3D Remake with new sprites, etc
Dragon Quest V DS: Full 3D Remake with new sprites, etc
Final Fantasy I & II PSP: Full graphical remake & new content
Star Ocean First Departure: Full 3D Remake with Voice Acting + new battle system
Chrono Trigger DS: Direct port with new dungeon
I can see both sides of this as well, but seriously $40 is too much. I'm glad I have an R4. You could say this is for the fans who want nothing changed, but that's a pretty bad argument. There are tons of things they could have touched up on while still keeping it true to the fans, instead of just adding a new dungeon.
its sad that fans have invested more work into being a good new Chrono game than SE themselves.
This is pretty spot on.
-

-
Dude. Get over it. People can buy what they want. Who cares if you don't agree... You don't need to shove your opinion down everyones throats.
ya, they can buy what they want. but it doesn't make the purchase any more worthwhile or legitimate.
and this is a forum, what do you do but offer your opinion in discussions??
-
Dude. Get over it. People can buy what they want. Who cares if you don't agree... You don't need to shove your opinion down everyones throats.
This is the stupidest argument ever. Like, shoving opinions down everyone's throats is not only a) what people do in general but b) you're kinda doing it too by shoving your opinion that people can buy whatever they want and to get over it down his.
if you think something is wrong (like say, porting a game when all they did is take a rom, put it on a cartridge, and hack it a bit to have a new dungeon (yes it is really that easy, and many people have done things like this) and put it on a cartridge (this takes all of like one month or less btw) and making it priced at 40 USD))), you talk out about it. it's a forum for christs sakes.
If you want to go waste 40$ on a game that is not only:
a) the worst port out of every port they've done so far content wise
b) doesn't even have any new graphics what-so-ever
c) doesn't add new story
e) just adds 1 fucking dungeon.
and most importantly:
f) takes less than 1 month to make and just hacked a ROM to do it anyways and put it on a cartridge for 40$ (hint: they are making insane profit off of one sale compared to every other game out there (even the other ports))
then by all means, you go do it.
Meanwhile, I'll be laughing my ass off in the same isle because of how profoundly stupid you are.
There is no real reason to buy this game. If you think buying this game will encourage SE to make a new Chrono game or something, you are an idiot. Look at the Final Fantasy ports. People bought it. Guess what happened? More ports. Look at FF7. People bought all the shitty games they released (fucking Dirge of Ceberus etc.). Guess what happened? Final Fantasy Advent Children 2. YEAH THATS TOTALLY A REMADE FF7 or a NEW FF7 game that doesn't suck.
Unless if they are making a new Chrono game already (possible with the NP scan of a white sword...), this isn't going to affect them on making one at all. All it is doing is ferreting money to them that basically says, "Hi. I'm a loyal customer who is an idiot and likes to buy anything no matter how much I actually need it. Please remake this game a year from now with NEW CHARACTER GRAPHICS and a pile of shit in the box for 60$ for the Wii. Thanks!"
it more or less says more about Square-Enix and how much they care about the Chrono series (read: they don't. 1 dungeon. That's about one hour of gameplay. And will 99.9% most likely use reused graphics and shit. Woo!
guess it kinda says a lot about how much SE cares huh? 1 dungeon, no new graphics (that every port they have done lately has got), no nothing. They probably put some lazy old 60 year old lonely guy on this project and that is it. as a fan I'd be pretty pissed instead of going OH SHIT YES FUCK YEAH CUMMING IN MY PANTS THEY LOVE US SO MUCH
no. they don't. You're free money to them, and that's it.
-
It's at times like these I'm glad I have an R4DS. I can understand those wanting to buy it, some people like collecting and owning the games, and adding Chrono Trigger to your collection isn't a bad thing, although it is supporting shittyness. I see and understand things from both sides.
Is it for sure only just a port? Can somebody link me to the details saying it's just a port with a new dungeon?
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/53420
Sales figures for this game will probably exceed the sales for the original SNES release, which is depressing.
-
Actually, I said somewhere around page 2 about how they made a PS1<->SNES emulator, put the ROM on it and bam, $40, this is probably the same thing. A DS<->SNES emulator.
-
I like Chrono Trigger and All, but I can think of ALOT I can do with $40,
I am however, looking forward to the Dragon Quest Ports, not that I would buy them New (wait a year or two for the used price to get decently low enouph)
-
I just figured out a way to save yourself $40 and still experience the new game. Get no$gba and the rom for this game. Play on your computer. If you don't want to replay the game for the Xth time then get a savestate from somewhere and just play the new dungeon. Exact same game, $40 cheaper.
-
ya, they can buy what they want. but it doesn't make the purchase any more worthwhile or legitimate.
and this is a forum, what do you do but offer your opinion in discussions??
Isn't that pretty much in the eye of the beholder though? (and yes, I do realize there are a lot of eyes beholdin' shit in this thread :P) Not that I disagree with you as this is a discussion forum for a reason, but kicking out for this game I don't think would make the purchase any less worthwhile or legitimate to the one willing to do so for a reason.
Well, unless you're on the outside looking in or something.
-
This is probebly a first, but OMFG i think i just had a proverbial orgasm. Chronotrigger is one of the best, (if not the best) JRPG i have ever played, its one of the few RPGs where i tried to find everything and even took the long way around to beat the game (though the black sun (thats what it was called right?)) Even if this is 2D i would still buy and play it, i just hope there are a few new additions to make the game a little differant, (not that it wasn't a good game as it was :P).
whats the name of the game who's screenies were shown earlier?
-
And if it gets ported to the Wii, I'll probably buy it again there, too.
hahaha holy shit you are the worst person in the world
-
I think some people need to kinda open their minds and see the bigger picture. It's not just "lol you so angry, people buy what they want". Buy buying a worthless product (a quick rehash of a 12 year old game with no effort gone into re-releasing for the DS and charged at full price) you're helping the market perpetuate a series of worthless products. Essentially people who buy things like this have a major negative impact on the games industry.
Remember that topic not even last week which said that Square-Enix aren't even gonna put an ounce of original thought in their games anymore (something they've actually been doing since about 1999/2000 it seems). How can you still think this means they'll do 3D Chrono trigger, PS3 FF7, NEW CT SEQUEL. This just means they'll keep pumping out the same shit with slight superficial changes (FF6 with customisable wardrobe, JUST WHAT YOU ALWAYS NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND THE GAME) and you lot'll keep buying it. How can you people not understand that this is a BAD THING? Do you really want to Dress up Bartz that damn much?
They're relying on your fanboiness, that sense of nostalga that manchildren cling onto, and just using it to make them money at the expense of people who are too stupid to see that they're getting absolutely nothing. If you've already got the game it's just like chucking $40 in the bin. $40 could be spend on a new game, an original one or an indy one which needs consumers? $40 could be spent on a lot of things. I used to be really retarded about things like this (Transformers) but actually hitting money problems made me grow up a lot, and I can really see how stupid I was buying the same shit over again because of DIFFERENT PAINT SCHEMES. This is exactly the same thing except y'know CT DS won't be worth any money in the future.
-
I realize that, but i never had a chance to buy it the first time round, i had to experience it on the PC through shitty emulation ( had a rubbish computer back then) and i realise i could emulate it again, but why do that when there releasing it on the DS?
I hate how square is not putting enough thought into there games any more, but it won't stop me buying one or two of their games that i really want, no matter how re-hashed it is CT is one game i will always love.
Yes i am slightly annoyed that they aren't doing any more then a new dungeon, but i don't care, its CT so i can allow it that much simply because it has one of the best stories which is ultimately what i buy an RPG for.
-

Everyone who bought Disgaea PSP, Tactics PSP, Valkyrie Profile PSP, Mario Kart DS, etc. YOU ARE ALL SHIT.
-
It's true that this is basically one of the most assiest things SE could do with Chrono Trigger. But still, there's a whole generation of gamers that can buy the game, although they might have already played it via emulator (I know I did).
...
...
Yeah, there's basically no reason to play this, unless you want it portable or can get it free. (I do both)
-
Too bad those psp ports aren't actual ports. IE they where programmed from scratch for the sake of releasing them on the psp~
-
I think it was sarcastic. Mario Kart DS was a different game altogether.
-
i don't get square. didn't they release final fantasy 5 (or 3 maybe) for DS but they actually gave it all new graphics (3-D) changed nothing esle? as i remember they kept everything in the game the exact same and just made NEW GRAPHICS FINAL FANTASY. this doesn't make any sense at all for a lot of reasons, first of all because 5 (or 3 i am stupid??) was not the most popular in the series and also why the fuck are they remaking an old game instead of making a new one. a lot of old games do not age well at all and i don't get why you'd restrict yourself like that instead of just making a final fantasy from scratch. i guess if square is going to be completely retarded they could at least remake a really popular / good game (ie. chrono trigger) with NEW GRAPHICS or whatever but they won't even do that.
anyway this is retarded. this game has a market for people who have never played the original, so there is a legitimate reason for it's existence, but i don't see why anyone who played the game should pick it up.
also octave made a really good post and all i would like to add to that is that virutal console shit and even a lot of xbox live stuff that is retro is just as worse. pacman for xbox live sold a ridiculous amount, and honestly who here hasn't played pacman? people just buy this shit just to own it. GOTTA HAVE PACMAN. it's also ridiculously priced too. 5 bucks for fucking pacman? it's absolutely incredible. it's like shooting fish in a barrel for these companies. spend peanuts porting a game, sell millions.
-
This port is acceptable in Europe, since Chrono Trigger was never released here.

FF3 wasn't released in America until the DS remake, if I remember right. Not sure.
-
even if that's the case, the game got average reviews and was very outdated. i'm simply saying why bother remaking an old game very few people cared about? yet something like chrono trigger, which should get better than typical treatment, gets a new dungeon. i really don't understand any of this. especially with the FF3 DS game having all new graphics, i have no idea why they didn't just make an entirely new game. something like the new super mario brothers for DS is a pretty good way to update an older game. what they're doing here though just doesn't make too much sense.
-
I think Square-Enix has just become too afraid to take risks. Rather than trying new ideas which could either succeed brilliantly or fail miserably (which I think they're afraid of), they'd rather just rehash what they know will work because it already has..
Old games that are regarded as the best in their genre will typically sell well.. And I guess rather than running the risk of losing money off of a new idea, they'd rather play it safe (a little too safe) and put out something that would cost them very little but would sell fairly well.
They're just getting lazy and/or overly cautious I think.
-

yeah, thats what I said too!
What I want to know is WHY is a pathetic game like FINAL FANTASY 3 got a fucking full 3D remake with all the bells and whistles, and yet, a timeless classic piece of a gem like CT got a fucking shitty PORT?
anyway, I mean, look at Mario 64, it got a remake on the DS, (and I'm SURE it wasn't a port) but even if it was, IT WAS WORTH IT, because they added a whole SHIT TON of stuff, including being able to play with Luigi, Wario and Yoshi.
You could say the same about Medievil. Another remake, with lots of stuff and a completely re-enhanced story/cutscenes.
Then theres Chrono Trigger.
New Dundeon +1

Hmm...
Tetsuya Nomura has said that even though it's been ported there has always been a wanting need to make the game for a higher resolution format Such as 3D. But felt that fans might be betrayed As many loved the simplicity Of the original.
Some friend told me that couldn't find the concrete source anymore :o
They care for some series but is afraid of fan backlash :gwa:
-
Everyone who bought Disgaea PSP, Tactics PSP, Valkyrie Profile PSP, Mario Kart DS, etc. YOU ARE ALL SHIT.
you aren't this stupid dude.
disgaea came out on one console and is hard as hell to find, tactics, wasn't that a different game, valkyrie profile is IMPOSSIBLE to find, mario kart ISN'T EVEN THE SAME GAME.
even that FF3 port is legitimate because it was an NES game that never came here if I remember right.
ardsafadffff how do consumers like you actually exist!
Hmm...

cool how about adding anything else. even if it's not updated graphics. hell, how about RADICAL DREAMERS, that terrible little japanese only port that apparently fills in Chrono Cross shit? it wouldn't be worth it to me, but it's better than lying and say YEAH WE TALKED TO THE FANS.
-
It seems square is afraid of fans starting from FFX-2
-
I think the FF Tactics PSP port was actually a really good idea, because the original Tactics had a RIDICULOUSLY horrible translation. Like, it didn't even make sense half the time. Retranslating it was a good idea. Can't use that excuse in this case, because there was nothing wrong with CT's translation.
I'd even defend Disgaea's port to a portable system because its method of character advancement is really perfect for SHORT BURSTS or plane trips or w/e. The Item World is almost like a puzzle game and would be good for a bus ride or w/e.
And yeah... Valkyrie Profile is like $100+ on eBay. If you don't want to bother with spotty PSX emulation, a port is your best bet for owning it without throwing away a wad of cash.
-
Like, it didn't even make sense half the time.
I got a good feeling that it did!

Like I said in my other post...
if you look at what other companies are doing with they're classics such as the Megaman and Megaman X Collection, Metal Slug Anthology and Sonic Mega Collection which will cost the same as this (probably less actually) but give you mulitple games in one package buying this feels kinda stupid. This should be part of a SquareEnix Classics Collection or something with SoM, IoG and other games like some that never came out in America like Rudra, SD3 and Terranigma. CT by itself should have been a downloadable game for 8 dollars or something not a full retail product.
After seeing that video I don't think I'm gonna buy this now, the feelings of stupidity out weight my rabid fan craziness. When you think about it this port seems to be more for those who never got to play the original seeing how for someone like me whos beat this game a million times there's really nothing new (1 new dungeon = bah). The people here who really know me and how much I love CT and CC probably can't believe I'm saying this but yeah I've thought about it and as depressing as it may sound (to me anyway) there's no reason for me to buy this. Call me when there's a Chrono Trigger 3 announced.
P.S. I just thought about it & umm... aren't roms only illegal if you don't own the original copy? I bought this freak'n game when it originally first came out (for the full price then which was like $60 dollars plus the cost of importing since I was still in my native country then) so doesn't that mean I can actually emulate it all the hell I want?
-

this is a complete lie afaik (but very commonly said on rom sites). you can emulate it all the hell you want anyways, you have more of a chance of winning the lottery six times in a row than getting fined or whatever for downloading ROMs, seriously.
-
hahaha holy shit you are the worst person in the world
Surprisingly enough, I'm okay with it.
-

Yeah I kinda figured that, that's why I asked (just couldn't figure out any legal way it made sense). S'pose I'll probably just pirate this and spend my 40 bucks on something else (like The World Ends With You, Kezay seems to like it and in the past I've liked alot of the same games as him).
-
Surprisingly enough, I'm okay with it.
hey so why don't you just fuck off if you aren't interested in having a conversation? you aren't being witty here guy, you're just showing everybody how you are stupid and an asshole. the people who are trying to tell you that purchasing games you already have for different consoles out of brand loyalty - and that's all this is - is stupid are telling you to try and make you realise something and i dunno make your life a little bit better!
so how about instead of the humourless sarcasm you try and defend your loyalty to chrono trigger huh
(this is a challenge cos i don't think you can do it cos it's such a stupid way to be)
-

ps i'm pretty sure it's a different valkyrie profile so there's that too

hahaha dude are you serious.
him: i'd buy it for the wii too
roman: yeah well you're the worst fucking person in the world
what discussion? what DISCOURSE does "you're the worst fucking person in the world" open up? would you bother typing up a lengthy serious reply to a post like that? you guys are pretty much a huge waste of time from their perspective and idk he probably, LIKE ME, feels absolutely no need to justify anything he does to random internet douchebags i would imagine!! the topic is GAMES COMING OUT and his response was SWEET I'LL GET IT but i don't think there's really any requirement for him to explain why if you think the game is bad, which it definitely is. there shouldn't need to be.
anyway if i had to HAZARD A GUESS i would say he's buying it because he is one of those stupid chrono trigger fans who just likes all things chrono trigger and feels the compulsion to buy everything that is even remotely related to the series. it's probably an issue of this WHOA CHRONO TRIGGER.... MUST HAVE//some weird collector mentality that i think you see a lot with things like this.
-
i was talking mostly about steel's posts earlier on. i think it was steel, the guy quoted his big post and was all "haha don't care i'll buy it a million times". he's being aggressively stupid and probably thinks he's pwning people or whatever they say. it annoyed me! i'm not calling him the worst person in the world or anything i'm just saying the way he's acting is shit and it's over something really stupid too.
but okay you may have a small point.
-
The people who really are heart set on buying this game are either extreme fanboys, morons, a combination of the two, or just amazing trolls.
There isnt a main reason to get this game again, as someone said earlier that its probably going to be a watered down version of the original with snazzy graphics. The more you buy these games, the more SE will make of them. Dont some of you understand that? (I know thats been harped on time and time again, but some people just dont get it.)
Im a huge CT fan but Im not going to pick this up for two reasons: A) I dont like the DS that much and B) SE is a shit company these days.
-
so how about instead of the humourless sarcasm you try and defend your loyalty to chrono trigger huh
Hmm, mkay.
I've already explained that, yeah, it's not smart financially. The point is, does that really matter? No. It's my money, who cares what I do with it?
Hell, if I wanted to buy up every copy of, I dunno, something expensive, like Suikoden II, who cares? So what if that's how I choose to spend my cash? Some collectors have two of many rare games, one to play, and one to keep mint.
I've got CT on SNES. I mean, the save battery is dead, but I have it. And, I've got Final Fantasy Chronicles for PSX, although I'm not fond of it's load times. So yeah, I'm getting the DS port. Not only is it portable, but it also has bonus content? Sign me up.
Yes, I've gotten all the Final Fantasy Advances, and hell, I've bought Zelda: A Link to the Past hmm...three times? Once on SNES, once on the Virtual Console, and once for the GBA. I love the game. Eventually, once the Virtual Console gets ALL the SNES games I want (some of which will probably never happen), I'll sell my SNES and all my games, and just have the VC, but, until then, maybe I want to keep my SNES to bust out some Earthbound, or Mario RPG. And, I'm a sucker for portability, so yeah, if I can play one of my favorite games on the go, I'm definitely going to, because, to be honest, I'm much more inclined to handheld gaming than console gaming anyway.
So, yeah, I'm getting CT for DS. I want the portability and extra content, sue me. What I DON'T understand, is why everyone's panties are up their asses about it. Who cares?
-

oh you idiot.
okay here is basic economic theory.
a company called Circle releases a decent game in 1995. it's given quite a bit of critical and financial success. fast forward to 1999, the company RERELEASES the game, but with a few cinematics and changes. a few people grumble but more importantly this port also crossed corporate loyalties at this point, it's part of politics, and is used to gauge and understand a sequel game released in the same year.
fastforward to 2008. the company rereleases the same game with a single dungeon. the original team has long left. everyone with interest in the game has two different ports in which they can play it. there's not even a graphic update. the sole benefit this has is that a game with a long involved story line has been converted to the only possible medium that lends itself to the exact opposite pick up and play gamestyle.
anyone with a braincell has realized this is Circle draining their consumers of more and more money because they'll buy ANYTHING shiny. the consumer, being a moron, does not realize that this encourages the release of games that are NOTHING BUT A SHINY ADD-ON and overall degrades the entire gaming industry all under the misconception that because it's their money, it can't possibly affect you or I or the industry.
meanwhile this type of behavior goes unchecked, and a real sequel to the original game never gets made. why would it? people are content with spending a ridiculous amount of money on the original. why bother spending effort? industry stagnates, and this is not a slippery slope argument but something we're seeing RIGHT NOW, and you still think you're anything other than an awful consumer who is everything wrong with gaming. you give corporations money to do the EXACT opposite of innovate. seriously, if people like you all died, EVERYONE would benefit except for some dude who pulled in 200 mill last year suddenly is forced to think of a new business plan that isn't ADD A NEW HAT TO FINAL FANTASY. I've never been in that situation before. just knowing I am the most worthless type of consumer! what's it like? how do you sleep at night?

Hmm.
Do you really think I sit at home and think "Oh gosh, what kind of consumer am I, and how can I change my evil ways?" Not especially. You see, I really don't care what kind of consumer I am. If that makes me a bad person, then so be it, but that's the honest to God truth. I. Don't. Care.
If me buying this CT port is going to destroy the gaming industry, then...I guess I just destroy the gaming industry.
-
yeah that makes you a bad person by every metric that isn't some twisted libertarian corporate loyalty scheme. congrats on having pride in it, now you should leave the topic because it's clear we've reached an impasse that you won't understand until one day you actually experience a bit of empathy.
-

Not a problem in the slightest.
Have a good day.
-
If you guys would just pirate it like I intend to, then we wouldn't be having this problem.
I understand how it's worth playing again because of the portability (It's the only reason I'm thinking of playing again. I wouldn't want to take up extra time playing it on a console when I can use time that will be wasted regardless waiting with my DS). But I don't see how it's worth the price tag, so I'm not going to buy it. (If it wasn't available for those who wouldn't pay for it, I still wouldn't pay for it, but I'm lucky that isn't the case)
It's just that simple. (imo)
-
I might end up buying it because I've never finished the original game and I hate playing Snes Roms. That's enough reason for me.
The possible price tag is pretty stupid though but I haven't seen any confirmation yet so what's the fuss?
-
You know what I just realized?
Nobody cares. You're not going to change anyone's opinion (on both sides of the argument), so everyone should just shut the fuck up IMO
-

being a bad consumer makes you a bad person huh

I'm confused. Buying the remake hurts the market. So I should download it. should I just download every game I want for free? Will that hurt the market?
-
yeah damn these discussions that insult my fave vidya gaems company and me!!
-
I'm confused. Buying the remake hurts the market.
Yes. Why would they shell out to create a brand new game at $40 a pop when they can just port and re-port and make the same amount of money?
So I should download it
If you can download and play it... that means you already have the capabilities of making your own port of it. Just get an emu and load it on to your DS and play it.
Should I just download every game I want for free? Will that hurt the market?
Don't be stupid. You know that this is a separate issue.
-
being a bad consumer makes you a bad person huh
not in all contexts obviously but on a gaming forum devoted to that industry's progress, you're a pretty shitty person. this gets worse when you stretch his logic to other shit and downright frightening if you consider it in the cases of actual physical harm and death like Monseco, Blackwater, DeBeers, because the justification so far has been ITS MY MONEY YOU CAN'T CHANGE MY MIND ON ANY GROUNDS.
-
if you can stretch pip changes to a tech admin overthrow I can stretch frivolous and terrible purchases to blood diamonds.
because really the same logic process would be applied, it would just be MY GIRLFRIEND WANTS A REAL DIAMOND SO WHAT IF THE COMPANY IS DESPICABLE AND ARTIFICIAL DIAMONDS ARE BETTER AND CHEAPER AND NOT COVERED WITH NIGGERBLOOD.
-
i remember wackfiend buying like 6 versions of resident evil 4: now with brighter colours

you win this round pidgeotto221.....
-
you aren't this stupid dude.
disgaea came out on one console and is hard as hell to find, tactics, wasn't that a different game, valkyrie profile is IMPOSSIBLE to find, mario kart ISN'T EVEN THE SAME GAME.
even that FF3 port is legitimate because it was an NES game that never came here if I remember right.
ardsafadffff how do consumers like you actually exist!
cool how about adding anything else. even if it's not updated graphics. hell, how about RADICAL DREAMERS, that terrible little japanese only port that apparently fills in Chrono Cross shit? it wouldn't be worth it to me, but it's better than lying and say YEAH WE TALKED TO THE FANS.
But you can EMULATE!! Seriously, find me a fucking copy of Chrono Trigger SNES.
-
so...are you agreeing with me, or are you seriously trying to claim emulating large multigig games like Disgaea is as feasible as a 20mb rom.
-
i have two. are they really that rare?
-
nowadays? disgaea and valkyrie profile and the like are pretty hard to find in their original forms, yeah. I mean, I find ports in general pretty stupid but they were pretty limited releases.
-
Disgaea and Valkyrie Profile had a print run less than 100,000 units (Atlus admitted to using low print runs as a marketing tactic BTW even though they advertised the fuck out of Disgaea and Persona 3 saturates every gamestore shelf). Porting those makes sense because of that fact but Square went the extra mile by recasting the voice actors and adding new cinemas while Atlus added a whole entire new story mode and bug fixes in their PSP port.
The fact that Chrono Trigger DS is the exact same game with a new dungeon that you probably won't be able to get through without beating the game in the first place is pretty lazy (oh yeah, Schala's hair is recolored blond to fit the crappy ending to Chrono Cross). I wouldn't complain if they did SOMETHING new like added in an extra ending that maybe logically ties CT with CC or something but as it is this game is probably an EMULATED game on the DS and hooooly shit that's unacceptable for me.
Companies complain about illegal emulation but selling a 40$ emulated game that doesn't even have the sound working properly should be illegal as well. Even the Mother/Mother 2 compilation and the Link to the Past port on the GBA were specifically designed for that system as opposed to emulated.
-
Wait, Disgaea is hard to find? How much does it go for on eBay? Fucking CD/Game Exchange gave me like two bucks for it shit why didn't anybody tell me before!
-
yeah i have it on the psp and it's like 4. i really didn't know original snes copies of chrono trigger were rare, though!
also, marcus, are you sure valkyrie profile: lenneth is a port? i played a bit of it and i've played a bit of the original and they seemed like entirely different games!
also yeah i think disgaea is pretty rare, roman. probably like $100 or some shit on ebay, although maybe less now that a more functional copy is widely available for the psp. i'm definitely in favor of ports like valkyrie profile/disgaea/fft/ones that in general ADD A LOT and retranslating stories and adding new modes of gameplay do that i think. the problem is only ones that are, like marcus said, lazy as shit and clearly milking the franchise to make a quick buck.
-
Seriously, just get no$gba and the rom when it comes out. It will be no different than playing it on a DS other than you'll save yourself $40. After playing it once you probably won't be bothered to play it again as it's the same game.
-
VP Lenneth is a port, they just threw some fancy cutscenes and brightened the graphics.
-
snes roms are actually more like 1 or 2mb in size. although I guess chrono trigger was a reasonably large game and I remember back in the day they used to advertise it as a 256 MEGABIT CARTRIDGE!! on the box (whatever that shit means) so its probably like 5mb at the most.
256mbit? I doubt that because most N64 games were 128mbit. Resident Evil 2 is the largest N64 game at 512mbit (BTW 1mbit is equal to 1024kbit which is equal to 1,048,576 bits and 8 bits = 1 byte and so on).
yeah i have it on the psp and it's like 4. i really didn't know original snes copies of chrono trigger were rare, though!

Chrono Trigger isn't rare at all (more than 500,000 copies I read this in some old Nintendo Power magazine from 96 or somethign) but assholes on ebay call anything older than 5 years rare and there's such a huge demand for it the prices go up. Also, no one in the 90s ever kept their box or manual so a complete package boosts the price up by another 30-40% it's ridiculous.
Lenneth was actually the original Japanese version (I.E. HARD version) so that's why it plays differently. And one would think a rerelease would drive down prices but they actually increase them. Atlus recently reprinted SMT:Nocturne but the reprint doesn't include the OST and now idiots on ebay are demanding tons more for it.
Seriously, if you guys want to make some maaaaad money then buy and sell video games on ebay. Most consumers are pretty retarded and will pay any amount for a "complete" package. Recently I sold Final Fantasy 3(6) and the original Nintendo Power promotional strategy guide (which I both bought off Amazon for 60$ total) for 200$ on ebay. Right now I'm collecting every Shin Megami related game released in the states (finding a complete copy of Jack Bros is killing me) and I guarantee I can probably sell it for 600$ plus and I only spent 200$ so far. I also have about 5 complete copies of Earthbound (and I keep buying new copies whenever they show up) and I'm going to slowly release them in the market once it dries up MY GOD I'M A DICK.
God, nerds are so rich but so stupid it's crazy.
EDIT: Videogame selling tips!
Right now the big thing on the market is Metal Gear Solid and old Final Fantasy games. The essentials collection has literally flooded the market and now MGS3 Subsistence (a game that could originally be bought for like 5$ a year ago) is being sold for 30-40$ used if it includes the second disc. The special edition has hit up to 200$ in some sales!
People are also buying up the original black label Final Fantasy ps1 games. A non-greatest hits version of FF7 can net you up to 100$ easy. Final Fantasy X original version has actually gone up to about 30-50$ (the price petered out to about 20$ max recently but once Final Fantasy XIII comes around prepare for it shoot up again). I literally walked into my local gamestop and bought 7 original copies of Final Fantasy X for a total of 20$ (2 for 1 sale) and turned it into 300$ on ebay this shit is ridiculous! RIDICULOUS.
BUYER'S TIP
Gobble up Resident Evil gamecube versions while you can as the price on those is skyrocketing. I guarantee you once Resident Evil 5 hits the market, the gamecube remakes will hit 70-90$ minimum. The Resident Evil REmake usually goes for around 100$ used. Disgusting yes but man is this easy money!

vg selling is only big money if you're selling trendy games. I sold most of mine earlier this year and got jack shit. Like capcom vs Marvel went for £20 but I was lucky if anything else reached £5.
-
marcus please make a new topic on selling games on ebay and teach me everything you know because i think i could make some maaaad money
-
also if anybody has mariokart wii and is still thinking of something to do with the useless steering wheels. Sell them.
We sold two of em and got £20 each. the market is filled with idiots(as if this topi didn't prove it enough), and so are naturally gobbling up anything with nintendo stamped on it right now. especially if they can use it for their wii.
-
so...are you agreeing with me, or are you seriously trying to claim emulating large multigig games like Disgaea is as feasible as a 20mb rom.
You can emulate FFT and Valkyrie Profile.
Also, Mario Kart DS = Mario 64 with new tracks.
Also, Tales of Vesperia = Tales of the Abyss with a new skin.
Also, RE4 Wii = RE4 PS2 with motion control.
Also, Yoshi's Island DS = Yoshi's Island SNES
Also, Halo 3 = Halo 2 with a map+weapon pack.
Also, FF6 GBA = FF6 SNES (and there was an entire thread devoted to its awesomeness).
Also, FF5 GBA = FF5 SNES (same here).
I could go on.
-
idk I guess I got my numbers mixed up then although to be honest I just assumed that shit was just a dumb made up gaming buzzword that they printed on the back of the box to make the game look impressive. Like any 10 year old kid who plays nintendos is going to know what the fuck a [ megabit cartridge is supposed to be anyway.
I never really knew what it meant either until I went to tech school but 256mbit cartridge is actually accurate. The SNES can only process 32bit's a second (hence 32bit system) and the cartridge itself could probably hold 256mbit of data but that game would probably crash the system immediately.
vg selling is only big money if you're selling trendy games. I sold most of mine earlier this year and got jack shit. Like capcom vs Marvel went for £20 but I was lucky if anything else reached £5.
Just like the stock market you have to watch things carefully. Dumb no name Japanese games especially from Atlus will sell for tons but no one cares about mass produced Madden whatever. Whenever a sequel is on the horizon (like RE5 and Fallout 3) I usually buy up the original (no compilations must include all the original packaging) as soon as possible because the price will skyrocket the closer you get to the release date. Personally, I never knew that MGS3 Subsistence would increase by almost 50% in price but once I learned Essentials wouldn't have the second disc I bought every copy I could get my hands on and turned it around for a ridiculous profit.
Nerd toys just sell for a lot in general and you should keep your eye open for them. Now that Universal Studios licensed Bone and Watchmen will be hitting theaters soon I started collecting the original Watchmen pamphlets and Bone hardcovers. The price on those has already begun to climb. Movies and sequels do wonders for supply and demand and you have to be sure to secure the market but buying as many copies as possible, letting the market dry out, then selling shit. Like 2% of ebayers know how proxy bidding actually works and they usually get into retarded bid wars and anyone will tell you that's the greatest thing to happen to any auction.
also if anybody has mariokart wii and is still thinking of something to do with the useless steering wheels. Sell them.

Thanks for the tip hoho.

I think I may turn it into a blog article once I get rid of these SMT games.

Also, Halo 3 = Halo 2 with a map+weapon pack
Also Halo 3 has improved graphics, an entirely new single player campaign, and a more balanced multiplayer as well as the map+weapon pack, but yeah let's leave all that out to make some kind of point that isn't very clear.
-

Its the same shit.

Its the same shit.
I really don't understand how you can compare that at all to a straight port of Chrono Trigger with ONE NEW DUNGEON. That's completely absurd, man. What point are you trying to make, again?
-

People buy the same shit all the time, so let these guys buy what the fuck they want?
-
People buy the same shit all the time, so let these guys buy what the fuck they want?
I'd sure like to play a new Chrono game. A third one in the series. But, as long as people keep buying games like this I don't think I'll ever get to see an original Chrono title. That's why people should step back and think a little bit about whether this is really worth supporting, especially since I KNOW that pretty much everyone that's buying this would much rather be playing a sequel and not a cashgrab port.
My method of avoiding spending money like this is to emulate every game that comes out, even ones I might have been thinking about buying. If, after playing a game for a while, I think it's worth supporting, I go out and buy it. It's kind of like the shareware concept of DOS games back in the day but costs less. A lot less.
-
People buy the same shit all the time, so let these guys buy what the fuck they want?
Oh!!! See I was under the impression that people only ever bought Chrono Trigger multiple times, but now that you've helped me become aware that people also buy other games over and over again, I guess it's no longer a problem. Because if it was only Chrono Trigger, that would be hurting the industry, but if it's every game ever then I guess it's not doing any damage at all huh.
Also more than half of the games you listed were SEQUELS, which is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from a direct port with a new dungeon, what part of this do you not get.
-
hahahahaha no way you are this colossally stupid. aren't you that PS3 fanboy who just goes nuts over stupid sales figures too?
NEW GAME=NEW DUNGEON is an argument you seriously brought up.
the vg forum hits a new high in discourse.
holy shit your profile says you are twenty, how have you survived this long.
WHOA QUIZNOS IS OFFERING A NEW SANDWICH ARGH GOTTA BUY THEM WHILE THEY LAST.
-
whelp it looks like you didnt take mog's advice huh steel

But its still the same shit, why buy a new game if you already have the old one?
And fuck, I've never bought CT. I don't plan on getting this one (Unless it's $20 Bucks). I mean if a game is good and is now ported to a system you now play more why the fuck not get it? I own Disgaea for the PS2 and the PSP because I liked the game but I don't play my PS2 much so I bought it on PSP (I beat it there 2).
You guys are yelling "No the industry isnt gonna grow" The shit aint growing now. Its rare to see something truly new come out. Because people are still buying the same shit.
-
...Halo 3 is not the same game as Halo 2, stop posting.
-
Ok, here's a scenario.
Square-Enix puts a poll on their website. The poll is very simple. It says:
"We aren't sure which game we should make next, but we've narrowed it down to two possibilities.
1- The first is a true sequel to Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross that ties up all of the loose ends.
2- The second choice is a direct port of Chrono Trigger for the DS complete with an added dungeon and touch screen capabilities.
You can only choose one game and we will only be making one of these two choices, effectively scrapping the choice that loses the poll."
Think really hard about this because it's basically the choice you have before yourself right now. I would almost stake my life on a bet that everyone that is going nuts over CT DS would much, MUCH rather have option 1. That being the case, why is it so hard to realize that the events in this poll are essentially what's happening?
-
hahaha i just bothered reading your posts and wow your argument really is that sequels are the same as remakes with zero new features. do you understand the concept that halo 3 had ENTIRELY DIFFERENT CONTENT than halo 2? like dude it does not matter if it's the same core gameplay mechanics at all; that's not what we're talking about. we're talking about content, and sequels have radically different content whereas ports/remakes... don't. if you're saying "but you still hold a gun its all the same shit!!!!" then you really do not get what we're saying at all.
-

I get what your saying with content ETC. But the majority of people buy games for the gameplay.
-
holy shit your profile says you are twenty, how have you survived this long.
Money + Excellent Credit.
-
I get what your saying with content ETC. But the majority of people buy games for the gameplay.
But if the content and gameplay are exactly the same then what's the point of dropping $40? Especially when a sequel is what you really want?
-
holy christ are you making the argument that because every game ever might share an aspect with a previous game, therefore ports with one minor change are justified.
are you seriously arguing against the idea of progress.
attention workers it has been exactly 20 seconds since our last most stupid fucking statement.
-
I get what your saying with content ETC. But the majority of people buy games for the gameplay.
people buy games for gameplay THROUGH CONTENT. it doesn't matter if the gameplay is similar if the content is something completely new. that's an entirely different thing from a remake. kfdjkfs man i can't believe you are this dumb about stupid videogame stuff sometimes.
-
But if the content and gameplay are exactly the same then what's the point of dropping $40? Especially when a sequel is what you really want?
It's thier money, and I wouldn't drop $40. I would drop $20 though. I don't buy that many games, I can probably count all the games I bout this year on one hand (LO, MGS4, NG2, Space Invaders Extreame (PSP), FFTA2, Battlefield BC... well 2 hands).
-

Chrono Trigger DS sells bad -> Square-Enix makes a new Chrono game. Is that your point?
What's the logic?
-
The logic is that by not buying a game like this you can send a message to SE that you want original games, not direct ports. But, I suppose you could buy this port if you want more ports because that seems to be what's happening.
-
I agree with theHunter.
I collect used cigars from MP's. I buy them on ebay. I know it's a totally worthless hobby and I could spend the money on usefull things, important things/whatever. But it's ok because it's my money, and I can spend it on whatever junk I want without caring about how it affects other things outside my own closedminded existence. People who have a sense of responsibility are just losers who stick their noses into other people's business.

I thought TWEWY was a good game (I bought that too..).
-
Not a problem in the slightest.
Have a good day.
ahahahahahaha oh my god. i bet your I DON'T CARE IF I'M A BAD CONSUMER diatribe isn't even true. Do you recycle, by any chance? Do you buy ENERGY STAR products? Do you TURN OFF YOUR FAUCET when you don't use it?
Or are you all AHAHAHA it's my money and everyone can go to hell!
Come on, man. You're just throwing out that line because you have no other defense and it's the equivalent of you going LALALALA I CANT HEAR YOU.
-
I thought TWEWY was a good game (I bought that too..).
I downloaded TWEWY, liked it, and bought it. Like I did with all the Ace Attorney games. This, however, isn't anywhere close to being worth it as those games were.
-

But you said that they only made ports...
-
you guys
he's saying I'M BUYING IT BECAUSE I WANT TO because yes, he probably has no better reason
but you know what else? if he's wasting money like that, he doesn't care
you're not gonna make him feel bad saying YOU'RE WASTING MONEY
god knows i tried making cliff feel bad because he wasted tons of money
also whatever if ize says at some point HEH THEY ONLY MAKE PORTS
people exaggerate all the time and it's just a way of talking
i say FUCK JAPAN IT ONLY MAKES GAY CRAP all the time because imo alot of what comes out of japan is terrible
but i still do get japanese stuff because i like some of what they do
if you don't get it: you can hate squaresoft but still like a game they release if it's good
-
alright hunter i'm beginning to think that you're trolling pretty hard here. the fact of the matter is that square is making buco bills for emulating a game. this is different than a sequel or a remake which actually goes through a development process or has new shit added to it.
you're basically supporting the future release of half-ass content like secret of mana ds (now with recolored grass and dancing rabite's on the top screen BUY NOW)
he's saying I'M BUYING IT BECAUSE I WANT TO because yes, he probably has no better reason
actually he was saying sequel's are the same as the original game THAT'S what we're making fun of.
-
The logic is that by not buying a game like this you can send a message to SE that you want original games, not direct ports. But, I suppose you could buy this port if you want more ports because that seems to be what's happening.
It would have to include a bit more than that, methinks. Simply not buying the game could also send a message to S-E that this particular IP may not be relevant to the market anymore beyond a niche audience. Not to suggest that they are testing the market with this CT port (though it's not entirely out of the question) but they would need people willing to support their new projects as well. If money isn't spent on this CT port it doesn't necessarily mean it would be spent on a non-port S-E title which would help in sending the message that S-E might want to alter their strategy beyond catering to nostalgia. For all intents and purposes, money could be taken away from CT and not spent on something like TWEWY or Nanashi No Game which may only lead S-E to continue to rely on tried and proven methods which would simply generate the cycle all over the again. (though not necessarily as it might just mean more "new" games built within established franchises, the new KH games for DS and PSP as well as Dissidia, for example)
The same people who may make the upcoming DQ ports or even this game potentially huge sellers may not necessarily be willing to put that money towards a new title, especially considering that they at least have an idea of what to expect with the former while they may be extremely critical of wholly new projects.
-

you buy used cigars? I have a whole ashtray of stubs man, let's start the bidding at 20$!!

and this is the problem with the video game market as a whole: they're not connecting with their community. notice how all the developers that networked with their fans (black isle, the dudes who made the master of orion series) are long gone and the industry has turned into a faceless giant full of executives that don't know what the fuck they're doing.
video games are basically following the destructive route that comics went in the 90s but instead of fucking holofoil and 30 different variant covers you have tons of ports and rehashes of old ideas with nothing new or interesting added to them.
but man, i cannot survive or find meaning in my life if i don't beat the game i beat 40,000 times before on three different consoles!
beating the ds version means i beat the game on the snes, pc, psp, gp2x, xbox, and ps1 7 consoles count 'em 7 lucky number

Sorry but you're not an MP.
The prize of my collection is one I found out to be from boris Johnson (former comedian, current mayor of London). It's in a tin(no, not that tin that's been in the news lately) with a piece of paper I got him to sign. It's really special.
-
you're a weird dude, kaworu

i dont think kaworu is being serious
-
Guys guys guys. Square is collecting money by selling this port, so they can make a REAL remake. Support the cause! Buy the emulated port now!!
-
Jesus all of you guys need to chill out. :(
-
But you said that they only made ports...
They will keep making ports as long as people keep buying them. If you want new & original games then only buy their new & original games.
-
Idk, I think either way we won't have a new Chrono Trigger. If the port goes well, then they'll keep on making ports. If it doesn't go well then. Hmm. No one's buying the Chrono Trigger port, guess no one likes Chrono Trigger.
-
That's not the big picture. For example, in 2009 if 20m copies of each of SE's new games sell and only 50k or so of each of their ports sell I think they might start to realize a trend.
-
It would have to include a bit more than that, methinks. Simply not buying the game could also send a message to S-E that this particular IP may not be relevant to the market anymore beyond a niche audience.
if they know even 1% about their fans, they know what they like or don't like and want or don't want. They know people want a new CT already unless if they are a very bad company.
-
Guys guys guys. Square is collecting money by selling this port, so they can make a REAL remake. Support the cause! Buy the emulated port now!!
The problem with square is that they have too many projects at once.
Final Fantasy 13, Versus 13, Agito 13, Dissidia, etc.
So yeah.
-
Don't forget
Final Fantasy 1 remake
Final Fantasy 2 remake
Final Fantasy 3 remake
Final Fantasy 4 remake
Final Fantasy 5 remake
Final Fantasy 6 remake with extra secret weapons
Secret of Mana remake
Chocobo fighting game
Final Fantasy 8 remake

Final Fantasy 8 remake
say what?

square would have to be blind to not know that people want a new chrono trigger. how many people do you think probably email them daily demanding a new chrono trigger. you can just walk on any forum that has a section REMOTELY related to gaming and tons of people will be screaming MAKE NEW CHRONOS okay maybe thats a slight exaggeration but seriously, believe me, square KNOWS that people want a new chrono trigger because the ENTIRE INTERNET has been demanding for one for a long time.
so if you realy think that despite this they're going to base whether or not a sequel gets developed on the sales of a USELESS PORT then you are a++++ retarded

A real Chrono Trigger sequel, like a direct follow up? Nah that'll be one of there money makers so they're saving it for when they go bankrupt again. Well, if they do.
Kind of like an FF7 remake. Seriously low on cash? Announce an FF7 remake and investments come flying in. :tsk:
-
Itoi should sell Mother to SE so we get get some Mother 4 action going. Maybe it would get the sales figures needed to perpetuate my favorite series (or atleast bring them over... Nintendo is afraid of releasing 1 and 2 it on the fucking vc despite being the most wanted vc games in the magazine polls).

I thought Cross was the sequel to Trigger :/
-
Purists claim Cross works out to little more than fanfiction. I'm pretty sure I read on GW that Radical Dreamers (the basis of Cross) was just that.
-
god chainer
you
no man
NO
shut up
that would be the WORST IDEA EVER
the problem here is not that we need more mother
IT IS THAT WE NEED MOTHER 3 PERIOD
if you've ever seen how it ends(totally, not just part of it) you know a sequel is never coming anyway
-
Although I haven't played the game... I read the script (translating roms are a nice effort, but I couldn't wait). I know how it plays out. Pokey gets stuck in the absolutely safe machine... and the pin gets pulled anyways and nowhere island (the last bastion of life on earth) is destroyed... and the world starts anew.... etc. That doesn't mean there can't be a prequel that revolves around George, Maria, and Giyig.... or perhaps some of Pokey's mishaps in the TEN THOUSAND YEARS WORTH OF TIME he spent in what has to be at least 4 individual timelines if anything said in Mother could be taken as canon.

It's not a direct follow up. Instead we get this shit with fucking Serge traveling between 2 dimensions(Not a bunch of different time periods) with like a bazillion other people including the effimate Magus wannabe, the alien guy, a scarecrow, ect...
Didn't get too far because it didn't keep my interest, but I know it didn't follow up on Chrono Trigger. It's not a bad game, but imo would've been better if it was an actual sequel.

take any of the elements you mentioned and imagine a mother game made out of them
i know i for sure can't
i'm not even sure i can imagine an rpg or any game actually made from any of those
MAYBE ANIME OVAS
but seriously no :(

I replayed CT at least twenty times, but CC will hold a much more important place in my memory as my favourite rpg. The battle/level up system, magic system, artwork, soundtrack, everything was done so well that I don't think any other rpg will ever feel the same to me.
Edit: I have a feeling most people that liked CT but hated CC only feel that way because it wasn't a direct sequel, thereby ruining their initial impression and experience, not because CC is a bad game.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Chrono Cross is not a shitty game because it isn't a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger. I think it's actually a better game.
-
Cross just shouldn't have been tied to Chrono Trigger's name at all. If they actually changed the name I probably would have enjoyed it more. It's not a bad game but when you try to find all the hidden connections to CT you'll come up short and hate Square for using the name as a marketing gimmick.
BTW schala's hair is being recolored blond (i have to put this in every post because i cannot believe how retarded it is)
-
say what?
ahahahaha see this is what i'm talking about.
-
ahahahaha see this is what i'm talking about.
Haha that reminded me of the crappy rinoa concept XD
-
i thought chrono trigger was a pretty stupid game anyway. it just wasn't that fun and is so vastly overrated! probably one of the most overrated games of all time imo.
i enjoyed chrono cross way more.
-
cue fan rage
-
RAGE!!!!
-
I actually thought that cross was pretty terrible too
-
Cross sucked.
-
Cross sucked.

you guys sure know how to grind a topic into becoming terrible

Ok... I just found out that you can emulate the SNES version of CT on the DS.
-
If you're going to do that it means you could also emulate the DS version of Chrono Trigger on your DS....
-

I didn't say I was... I just didnt know that the homebrew scene of the DS was sizeable.

Accept chrono trigger only really has a cult following, and in a gaming industry dominated by ip loyalty, why would they use a sub-par ip as a fallback when they have the vastly more popular final fantasy, kingdom hearts and dragonquest brands?
-

The homebrew scene on the DS is actually pretty damn big. Now that you've dipped your toe in, feel free to dive in and see what more you can do. (http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/2188/zettacooltm5.gif)
I'd link you to the neogaf thread that has a ton of info about the different stuff you can do but they are down at the moment.

This has been brought up several times. There was even talk of R4DS.
You know... being able to make our own port in two seconds flat and the fact that fans have done more to perpetuate the series than SE did in the last 8 years (all SE did so far was create one dungeon and CHANGE SCHALA'S HAIR) was a large part of why people are outraged.

Where do you get the R4?
-
Over here its sold with the DS, its like, "so you want to buy this with it? You can do lots of stuff with it" (but they don't actually know what, dumb sales people)
-
Cross sucked.
Too bad youre wrong.

I had to go to some weird small store in a very asian mall around here to get one.
Also, Super Nintendo emulation on the DS is somewhat unimpressive (by which I mean, barely worth playing most games) as far as I've experienced so far
-

yeah Cross was actually pretty good. nice graphics, great music, cool story, it wasn't bad at all.
too bad I couldn't make it past vipor manor... i didn't get stuck or anything, just lost interest.
-
so I played the demo of ct ds today. I walked up to it skeptical but I actually came away pretty impressed! This port took a lot more than two seconds. I mean if you've already played ct a billion fucking times then yeah pass but keep in mind that:
- they've completely reworked the interface (it is completely touch-enabled and even has a map system)
- they've redone the translation and it isn't that bad. The demo ended after the dragon tank but there was still some pretty good stuff.
I could stomach paying for it just to take it with me to Iraq.
-
Where do you get the R4?
lots of places online, just have to watch for ones that sell legit ones.
The R4 is pretty outdated though, and there is a high chance of getting one that will brick your DS, so if you're looking for a cheap flashcart (but still works perfectly with any commercial game or homebrew application/game), try something like the AceKard 2, Edge, or something with more features like the CycloDS (with like slowmo and real-time save state options). Do some research and look up whatever looks like it fits with your needs.
-
Get the CycloDS if you can spare the extra cash, imo.

comparison chart. I love posting that url.

and the ability for microSDHC support from cards other than the r4 is a good enough reason to look at alternatives in the first place anyway
-
Can this topic please die already... Both sides of the argument go something like this:
Pro CT DS: "Guys, it's Chrono Trigger, on the DS!"
Anti CT DS: "It's Chrono Trigger... On the DS...."
-
But Izekeal... it's Chrono Trigger! On the DS!

I agree. Play it on DS, emulator or rerelease. God, it's just stupid chrono trigger... not even that good.
you heard me.
-
I also think Cross sucked
otherwise they'd port Chrono Cross or something they know Chrono Trigger's the one worth caring about
-
i'm with izekeal and I'm going to go ahead and lock this (if a vg mod wants you can unlock but really for what reason would you)
-
