PlayStation3 just got the update I've been eagerly awaiting. In light of the upcoming Playstation Home "game/community" they've added some fantastic features. In-game XMB, messaging and all. It's the minor function that 360 users cound dangle above PS3 for all this time. Now we're moving forward with the same deal. Rumour of video messaging too.

They've added the trophy system finally, similar to 360's achievement, except that they'll mostly affect the game Playstation Home. You'll have a trophy room in said game, to show off to your friends. I personally don't have enough information on the issue to say that's ALL they're for. Though, I kinda doubt it.

So, the big vision for PS3's online community is coming together. When PS Home comes along, we'll finally be there.

You'll see the Dudesoft persona chillin' in the arcade or by the pool tables and be like "Yo dudesoft, let's play some LittleBigPlanet" and I'll be like, "sure let's see what 'choo got." and we'll jump into it.

My friends, this update is the beakon for the beginning of Awesome.

Other new or revised features in version 2.40:
Overall
You can now see the system clock on the XMB™ screen. The date and time that were set under [Settings] > [Date and Time] are displayed.
When using a keyboard, you can now clear the entire text entry field at once.
The  icon is now displayed when you press the PS button for an operation that cannot be performed.
 Users
You can now turn off the PS3™ system from the XMB™ screen using the [Turn Off System] option.
 Settings
You can now set the PS3™ system to turn off automatically after updating the system software.
[Reassign Controllers] and [Controller Vibration Function] have been added as options under [Accessory Settings].
 Photo
You can now print images from a playlist.
You can now sort items that are grouped in a folder by month or year using the
[Film Date ] or [Film Date ] options.
 Music
You can now use a mini-size control panel while playing music.
You can now play music content encoded in MP3 Surround format.*
* MP3 Surround can only be used when playing music content in Linear PCM format.
 Video
You can now use the [Frame Noise Reduction] and [Block Noise Reduction] settings for video content that is saved on the hard disk or storage media.
You can now play upscaled video content that is saved on the hard disk or storage media. When the video content is played, it is upscaled automatically to match the screen size.
Upscaling of Blu-ray Disc (BDAV) video content is now supported.
For DTS playback on DVD-Video and Blu-ray Disc media, DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 for DVD-Video and DTS-ES Matrix for Blu-ray Discs are now supported.*
* "DTS" is a trademark of DTS Inc.
 Game
The procedure for quitting PLAYSTATION®3 format software has been changed.
You can now collect trophies in games that support the trophy feature.
 Network
[Search] has been added as an option in the browse mode menu of the Internet browser.

 Friends
The number of Friends who can be added to a Friends list has been increased from 50 to 100.
The [Information] screen has been redesigned and renamed as [Profile].

The In-Game messaging is a double edged sword.  It's great that I can send and receive messages in game... but people on PSN wanna send you 50 million useless messages while youre playing CoD4 online! I was like WTF?

No, it's coming out in September apparently. So says my friend who informed me about 2.4, I've yet to check into that. So I'll keep my mouth shut for now. I'll check at lunch.

I like how it's here an all but this should have come out so much earlier. Same thing goes for that delay magnet Home.

Beta this fall. But it will be completely open and fully featured. Kinda like how Gmail is.

Dunno man. It must have been hard to get working properly. I'm sure they took their time with it. Haven't downloaded the update yet, my buddy has my ps3, so I'll have to wait and see thursday or friday. If it loads perfectly with minimal to no slowdown, I'll be fine with the long wait; it'll mean they did work hard on it.

Ho man, I can't wait for Home, yo.

It takes like half a second to actually pop up and the icons take a bit (not much) longer to pop in than usual. But it is smooth on my PS3.

Sony didn't find the problem, because it only affected certain PS3s. Sucks that the update was withdrawn, however it'll be back when they figure out the problem, and then I will cheer with pompoms again about this so-called Dawn of the New Age. ;)

Was, is, I really don't care about the details of the gmail beta.

Seriously though, they shoulda just put In game messaging and been done with it.
