Title: A Gamblers Revenge - A John Woo homage (A film by Esh)

So I've been working on this for the last three weeks or so, it's a film in the style of John Woo, including the dodgy dub.

The bad things first. Because that's how I want it to be. The music is occasionally a bit loud (or the dub is too soft), creating a couple of moments where it's really hard to make out what people are saying. But as you said:
Quote
<Esh> it's the dub, it's too quiet in places. i tried to sort it out but i only had two days after filming to both edit the film together and put the dub on before college closed so
The second bad thing is that there are no birds. What is John Woo without birds. Or a church? Tssk tssk.

The rest however. Brilliant. This is bloody brilliant. From the very beginning with the unconvincing dub you had me hooked. I didn't even consider waiting to watch the rest later as I often tend to do and never going back. "And it was good food", the delivery is great. Not to mention the laugh. All those moments of repressed anger in the dub. Oh... How it lifts the film.

The fighting sequences are also wonderful. They remind me a bit of that opening scene in one of the Spaced episodes. But I guess the inspiration is the same for both. I also think it's a very clever way of getting around the whole gun thing. And the slow motion. And the freeze-frames "Loyal to the end" had me going "fuck yes".

It doesn't get a whole lot better than this. There's also the fact that it doesn't seem to laugh AT John Woo, but instead it's really a wonderful homage filled with respect despite being hilarious.

This might be a five out of five if I handed out points for these kinds of things. And you know what? If I hadn't started with the bad and forgotten about it by the time I wrote "This might be a five out of five" it wouldn't have been. There's the good side of beginning with the bad.

my lucky wallet............................................................

Well, to be honest I'm not exactly ultra impressed but I think I liked it. It's really my kinda thing tbh. Personally I didn't really know what was going on half the time but it was cool. Definately has a lot of the Woo trademarks. I especially liked the director cameo and lucky wallet scene. Of course I nearly cried at the end. Use of slow motion and jazz music was great. Pretty good shit. Good job.

btw gangsta poster

Damn welsh...

That was pretty good, both of them. The entire concept is executed quite nicely and overall it was entertaining from the start to the end. Can't really tell if the homage was good or not since I haven't seen any of John Woo's older films but the dubbing was a nice and funny change. The fights as Shinan mentioned felt very much like one or two episodes of Spaced (hand-gun episode and paintball episode to be more specific), which was rather fun as well.

The only "negative" thing I could find was that the camera shots were way too generic and boring. It's always the same half close up of one person and then cut to another with pretty much the same shot... and then it repeats itself over and over. I think the second movie was a tad bit better though (probably because it featured more action).

Overall I liked this. I'd probably put this as the best moviemaking in Film&Media so far.

This confused me alot because your movies are really weird and hard to follow, Psyburn. I always thought you simply had a problem of telling a story but I begin to think that this isn't the case...
