Title: New Problem: Themes not working
Post by: the_hoodie on July 19, 2008, 07:24:01 pm
So whenever I mouse-over something that displays text for something it will display like normal. However, when I put my mouse onto a blank area, it will display the mouse-over text from the earlier time. It is not much of a problem, but it is really annoying, so I would like be able to fix it.

As you can see, that is obviously not what is supposed to display there when I sit my mouse still.

I find things like that annoying too...
I either keep trying to click on it to get it away, mouseover something else briefly or minimize/maximize the window...
None of which are a real FIX for the problem I guess...

Turn hardware acceleration down a notch (control panel/display/settings tab/advanced/troubleshoot tab), see if that helps.

Do you have the latest drivers for your video card?

you know i get this sometimes, but its not like its an "incorrect" tooltip or anything. I always assumed it was just an anomaly having to do with focus/timing issues. For instance sometimes ill have a vlc instance open watching something, pause it, refresh GW in my browser, then alt+tab back to vlc, hit space and F (play and fullscreen), then after a second the tooltip for the GW page will show (like as if im hovering over a topic in the board index, like your screenshot shows).

It doesn't happen with any regularity and I've never attempted to recreate it with any regularity as I just assumed it was an anomoly. I still think it's just an anomaly and you shouldn't worry about it.

GR: It has been happening for a month now and I am really starting to get pissed off at it.

Goat: Yeah, I updated them yesterday.

Does this just happen in your internet browser, or in windows? Is it java/flash pages, or also html? Whats your browser and OS versions?

SP3 I assume? Does it happen in other browsers as well? Is the tooltip staying on longer than 5 seconds?

On this topic. sometimes whenever I put my mouse down on the toolbar icons to see like how far my windows update is going, it sometimes appears behind the toolbar and I can't see it that good. I close any open windows and programs that are open whenever it happens, but it still goes behind it sometimes.

That's a windows bug going back to the days of windows 95. It just happens. Microsoft's "Resolution" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912650) for it is worth a read if you want a good laugh.

It only happens in Firefox (and I have reinstalled, disabled apps, all that jazz) and only lasts 5 seconds.

That's just how Firefox handles tooltips, mine does it too.

Well it seems to have fixed itself, but now I have a different, completely unrelated problem:

My custom themes no longer work. I had the uxtheme.dll installed, and my theme was working fine. I come back a week later, after being on vacation, the theme was reset to the windows classic and I couldn't change to the custom themes anymore. I tried reinstalling the uxtheme.dll multi-patcher, and it still doesn't work.
