safe.
I'm looking to sell my website. Ultima Island (http://uirpg.com) is an rpg-maker focused community site which has been running for a couple of years now. Custom coded website (based on phpBB forums) and has an almost-impressive database of resources and games and shit.
Advertise on it? Destroy it? Improve it? Vandalise it? Take good care of it?
- If you want to buy it, feel free to do what you want with it.
If you buy I will give you the hosting account (with dreamhost.com) and domain and you can have it as it is.
Paypal payment required. Make me an offer. Go on, show me the money!
-
I bid ONE MILLION US DOLLARS!!!
-
ohhhh i get it
you buy a domain, put ui on it, wait, sell domain, put ui on another domain, wait, sell domain....
-
no it looks like this time he's selling the website itself.
-
If you pay me I will look after it.
-
no it looks like this time he's selling the website itself.
Yeah that's correct.
No joke bids please. I'm a delicate flower deep down inside and every time I see a million dollar bid a gram of seratonin goes KABOOM in spontaneous combustion.
-
think of the people of irc://irc.whahay.net/pax-tsukuru :(
-
Ooh, this sounds interesting (for anyone who's wondering, I'm not just some random guy, I'm from UI).
I'd be willing to bid if it's in my price range. I don't really know how much this kind of stuff tends to go for though, and I'm really bad at picking random numbers to start bidding with.
What were you hoping to make off of this?
I'm also kind of curious as to why you haven't posted about this on UI, but I'll assume you have your reason such as avoiding the probable mass panic, so I won't draw attention to this yet.
-
I'll buy it for a song.
-
Will you accept mesos?
-
Alright, so I went over this with my dad and he wants a spreadsheet with information such as the anual income from advertisements, the cost of hosting, and any other money cost or gain stuff like that, and he wants me to ask if there are any changes that are about to happen such as a change in hosting cost or anything like that.
That'll help him decide how much of this he's willing to cover. Which is also probably about the limit of how much I can pay.
-
The most you're going to get out of anyone here is from me. I'll buy this pile of shit for 50 dollars. Seriously. If anyone wants to co-own with me, yeaah, we can do that. Turn it into a shithole, or exploit little kids.
-

I advertise with adbrite. They're shit. You should go with yahoo ads and you will make more, I would have gone with them myself but as I dont live in the US I dont apply. If you were to set up a yahoo account and wanted me to add the code in before handing it over, I could do that. OR, you could do it yourself, I think you're quite tech savvy no?
Hosting costs are $9.95 a month, that's not about to change. The domain has been recently renewed so you dont have to worry about that for another year, and when that time comes it'll cost $9 to renew for another year. If you renew for longer you get it relatively cheaper.
So basically at the moment the advertising covers the hosting costs. Being the dick head I am though, Ive been trying to cash American cheques from Adbrite in England and havent had any luck. So Ive been paying out of pocket. For you though, this would cover it, and with yahoo ads you'd make a profit. There are opportunities with the hosting account from referrals too, I have made $98 from one referral.
I was looking to make as much as possible (obviously). The hosting account should pretty much go to you for free, so you're paying for the community and the code I wrote for the site itself. A few months back I sold the uiv2.com domain alone for $800. Since I'm looking for a quick and easy sale, I'll be willing to sell the site itself for the same amount.
-
So wait a second did you just say "make me an offer" and then just now say "it'll be $800"????
-

"make me an offer" is not equivalent to "i will take any price you want guys!!!! go ahead take my house as well!"
-
i will give you an unopened copy of Marvel vs Capcom 2 (for the PS2) for it.
you know you want it...
for reals though, this sux cause i know ui (dont have an account there), but hey whatever. ;(
-

yeah but considering the best (serious) offer in this topic seems to have been $50, saying you want $800 is a bit of a stretch
but then again he could have gotten other offers PMed or something so who knows
-

The ONLY offer he got was $50. And just because $50 was all that was offered, doesn't mean that's all he's going to get.
-
I could probably set up Yahoo ads, but it'd be sweet if you'd do it for me. Do you know how much more they'd net than adbrite?
Anyway, I can almost definitely go for $800. It all depends on my dad, though if he isn't willing to loan me that much I could pay you ~$100 every month and have a bit of interest or something, if you're willing to not get it all at once.
I'll get back to you as soon as I know exactly how much my dad is willing to loan me.

why are you so willing to pay for a site that is only just breaking even?
-
It blows my mind that he is willing to pay that much.
Seriously.
Unless this site has some HUGE FOLLOWING I'm not aware of, there's no way it's worth all that.
-
its every kids dream to own a terrible website
-
what i especially don't get is why his dad is going to loan him even $100 for this, much less $800
i mean it's not like it's an investment, the money you make off this site just pays for the hosting, you're making like a $5 per year profit
it's more like he's giving you an $800 present, and shit dude, my family has quite a bit of cash and they'd never do that for me, what kind of dad has $800 for you to blow on a website that isn't paying him back?
-
It's not making a profit now, but that could be changed with new ownership, like previously stated. And sites don't have to make a huge profit to be beneficial. I wonder how little profit this site makes?
-

im not saying that the site isnt worth $800, it absolutely is worth AT LEAST that
but buying it without a clear plan on how to make it profitable seems like a bad idea
-

Providing the ads he listed above are the only income, only four or five months of the year make enough to cover the hosting.
Yeah, I guess I didn't think about the new ownership difference, but even still...
-
jesus....christ man... ok ay you're a tough cookie. 55 american dollars.

The domain uirpg is pretty fucking useless to be honest. So, the website makes on average $8.99 a month. So it doesn't even cover the hosting costs. So you're paying $1 a month, plus the $9 to renew the domain - that's $21 a year in the red. So you want someone to pay $800 for the privilege of taking the aforementioned costs off your hands for a piece of shit website that at the moment has only 10 users online, 9 of which are guests?
How the fuck can you justify that? It's not worth $8. It looks like a piece of random generated blah blah here's some motherfucking gaming resources.
-
Soolar, if you seriously got together with your dad to seriously discuss the purchase of a shitty website that involved charts, graphs and income, than you must not live in a very smart household.
$800 my ass.
-
It blows my mind that he is willing to pay that much.
Unless this site has some HUGE FOLLOWING I'm not aware of, there's no way it's worth all that.
It has a mild following ;-)
Like I said though, you're paying for the community, the traffic (the domain), the established resources and THE CODE.
Providing the ads he listed above are the only income, only four or five months of the year make enough to cover the hosting.
Switching from adbrite would change this.
Im not sure what caused the low income in April 2007 but January-February 2008 was when the new domain came in I believe, so bound to be less hits on the whole. No pun intended.
The domain uirpg is pretty fucking useless to be honest.
The traffic stats are getting close to what they were for uiv2.com, a domain alone which sold for $800 on a domain marketplace type of website. To a reasonable degree at least, these buyers know their stuff.
So, the website makes on average $8.99 a month. So it doesn't even cover the hosting costs. So you're paying $1 a month, plus the $9 to renew the domain - that's $21 a year in the red. Beauty is not skin deep, my friend. You say it looks like a piece of shit website blah blah bollocks, but that's not the point. Fact is that people like it, and thats reflected in various stats. Alot of work has gone into it in various forms. The most obvious and pricable bit of work would be the coding, but then it extends to other more abstract and unpricable things like podcasts, something we were onto long before any other rpg making sites I know of. Read above as far as hosting costs vs ad revenue goes.
Point is its easily worth $800, and its certainly a far cry away from (and on the better side of) $55.
-
I probably wouldn't even pay $800 for GW, and it's definitely more worth it.
-
I haven't logged in three years. I'll bet no one even know who I was then, but I was made aware of this thread and that's all that matters.
I'm considering either raising the $50 bid or going in with TFT if they'll allow. I think I could make this profitable by switching hosts and adding "premium content." I would like better data on traffic, however. Number of total and unique hits, visitor locations, visitor loyalty percentages, percentage of visitors that click on ads. Amount of data transfered and storage used would also be needed, along with information regarding the current hosting plan. That sort of thing.
-
Why are you posting this here? You know you're just going to get laughed at by most people here (or, by the looks of things, most people anywhere period). Did you try your own site and forums to see if anyone wants to buy it there?
-
www.uirpg.com
For a comparison:
www.gamingw.net

I couldn't resist....

a fully coded site with a full CMS such as UI is worth over $800 on its own you idiot, if he made the website as a job he would be fetching over a grand for his work
add in an already established community and the fact that its proven not to be a loss maker adds even more value
-
yeah do you people not know how much websites are actually worth, or?
the only problem here is is that im pretty sure very few people here at gamingw just so happen to have 800$+ laying around for a website
-

you are missing what's going on, he is trying to sell us is his half assed project that fell apart because he doesn't maintain it anymore and/or the concept in general failed due to bad administration. what you are saying is that I should pay full price for a used car. There is no profit in this website unless you are willing to put in a lot of work, which defeats the purpose of paying 1k dollars for it, you are better off taking your own idea fleshing it out and getting things done right the first time around because this site is hardly pretty or exceptionally functional.
sorry to badmouth your website Sephiseraph but this is just the way I see it, but there are wealthy people out there who make terrible investments so I am sure you will be able to sell it for 800 dollars . But I am just assuming how you are feeling about it, you are sick of the site and want to get rid of it and start something new, and you know in its current state it will not turn 800 dollars in profit anytime soon, and that is why you are selling it.
-
haha leafo.net is apparently worth twice as much money as gamingw.net
-
wow my personal site with nothing on it at all is worth $1200. nice.
saltworld.net is worth $0 :(
-
haha leafo.net is apparently worth twice as much money as gamingw.net
haha what, I think it is because I host a lot of files/people, but my google page rank is 1, which is really bad.
gamingw's value should be increasing exponentially very shortly ; )
-
you have a five-letter domain name plus there are 3X as many links to your site (i guess because you host a lot of files???)
anyways, these website value calculators are very inaccurate since they only take into account tangible things like traffic data and google page rank and links and what not
-
yeah and dont forget that like, leafo.net and my sites and stuff are in your gw profile, so they show up in every post which counts as a page link.
-
I'd pay $8000000 for saltworld.net
-
its worth $0 so lets start the bidding there
-
goldenratio iwill give you 12 cents for saltworld
EDIT: Oh no I'm having second thoughts!
-
Damn. MidgetPope.com is only worth $0. :(

-
Yeah anyways unless there are any better offers within the next few hours I think I'm gona take soolars offer.
-
GR can't sell saltworld. I have an investment of TIME and EFFORT into that website.
-
stfu i can do what i want
-
Yeah anyways unless there are any better offers within the next few hours I think I'm gona take soolars offer.
$6,000
edit: checked with my bank and you'll need to send $25 dollars to me first so that they can verify your account
-

Word on the street is you betrayed Saltworld and left your friends to become an admin here!

I'd just like to mention that I'm also a professional web developer and I agree with this 100%. Don't waste your money on this. If you want a site, go have one developed that actually does what you want it to. Taking over what Sephiseraph made and trying somehow to make it profitable is likely going to cost you even more time and money.
-
stfu i can do what i want
What about all my jokes :(
-
im just kidding i would never sell saltworld. buying it was the best decision ive ever made in my life.
-
let me run saltworld
pretty please
-
you couldn't handle it atari
