Ok, you will not normally see me make topics like this for a while but I am on a friends computer and seeing that nobody made a topic on this game something must be done.
Let me just state that I hate 90% of Wii's 3rd party titles, but I think the other 10% are great/decent. An upcoming FPS for the wii called "The Conduit" might give me hope for future titles. It LOOKS good but another story that obviously got it's influence from games like halo seem cliche. Basically you play as "Agent Ford" and you have to fend off creatures called "The Drudge" and destroy their portals that link their world to earth. Overall to me, it looks pretty good and I would LOVE it if they make online play with no friend codes because I will kill Nintendo if they ruin another promising game's online play. Until it comes out, Screenshots:

what do you guys think?
-
Maybe it'll be good if they have some decent multiplayer and good controls. I'd like to see adjustable bounding boxes for turning; I hate having to move the cursor all the way to the side of the screen to turn.
-
I haven't really been that interested in this game. I am interested to see what the reviews say because it has the potential to play really well (other shooters like RE4 and Metroid were a blast on the Wii!) but I'm pretty skeptical.
-
TBH I don't think it looks that good at all.
I'm much more excited for stuff like Mad World.
-
I am really disappointed in nintendo. It sucks that their consoles have such terrible graphics, but developers still try to make the games have that next gen look, so we get blurry textures and way too much aliasing.
-
So is this Gamecube or what? Hahaha, Nintendo you poor suckers.. I hope you regret making the Wii so underpowered now!
It looks good for what it is (a Wii game), but even still.. It doesn't look like much to get excited about at all.

Graphics aren't everything.

Graphics aren't everything.
That's not completely true. I am fine playing any 2D game out there, I can always see the beauty.. But bad 3D does not really contain any beauty. Those monster models for example, they look way too clunky and blocky for a current generation console.
It's sort of depressing to see.

I have to say, the graphics are looking pretty good in this game. Its one of those games that look better in motion but not so good in screenshots.

Look at the videos, you will find them to look alot better.

The videos still don't look that good.

The graphics kind of remind me of playing an eight year old game on a newer PC: smoothed out, but designed for outdated hardware. Plus it doesn't really help that it sounds and looks pretty generic. The gameplay will have to be amazing for me to consider getting it.
-
I'm looking forward to how it turns out. Early on when they were boasting about their Quantam3 engine I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but they pulled out a pretty decent looking game, although nowhere near the 360 graphics quality they were parroting as having. Still, initial impressions have been great, the game apparently has fully customizable controls from button layout right on down to adjusting aiming sensitivity which could kick the crap out of both MP3 and MoH: H2 as far as a First Person game adhering to Wii remote controls are concerned.
I do like that the developers make no qualms about the game being somewhat generic and derivative of other FPS games on the market and they seem to embrace that criticism. They just want to create a nice looking game that plays well and between that an Animales De Muertes for WiiWare, they've been on my radar. Unfortunately Gyrostarr didn't turn out so hot (though it's still kind of fun, if not repetitive) They're also talking about wanting to use WiiSpeak as well.
-
I must say, the graphics are quite bad. I swear even the Gamecube could do better. Otherwise, looks alright.
-
Why are the developers hyping the graphics for this game?
"As you can see, we've got reflections on the scope of the rifle. Also shiny textures and bump mapping with particle effects."
Yeah graphics aren't everything, but they sure love to talk about stuff that was in Doom 3. I think it's cool that they've got tons of weapons, and that device that shows hidden objects is pretty awesome. Those screenshots are in desperate need of some anti aliasing though, and there's tons of blurry textures. I do support these guys in trying to make a decent FPS for the Wii, they've got some nice mechanics going on here. I'm just not too interested in an FPS which may lack multiplayer features, and only have a single player campaign that lasts a few hours long on a console with outdated graphics.
-
i think it looks alright, pretty good for wii anyway. i am glad at least someone is trying to push the hardware, but there just isn't enough power to utilise.
nintendo had no excuse not to get better hardware in the wii. out of the gate, one of the things nintendo bragged about was how they would be making profit from the wii on day one. i think it was something like 50 USD per wii was pure profit. as opposed to sony and microsoft, who both sold at cost or below cost (they lost money on each console they sold) and try and make the price difference down the line when the hardware gets cheaper. this is also because sony and microsoft both make the money back on game royalties / licensing eventually. the main point here is, they could have added better hardware and still turned a profit. instead, you get bullshit like the WII MOTION PLUS which basically admits the wii remote was bad technology, and you get which is essentially gamecube games in terms of graphics.
-
I don't get it. The Xbox 360 gets Halo 3 and everyone is like "Fuck Halo 3, over rated if I ever saw it". Then the Wii gets what looks like an inferior Halo clone and most people are like "Not bad!".
Anyway. I've never been a big fan of FPS games, and I don't really see anything that makes this one different from any other FPS game I have played. The only selling point it has is that it is on the Wii, but as someone who has all 3 consoles I have access to other (probably better) FPS games, so I am kind of wondering what makes this game special in any way (other than being on the Wii)!?
-

Man, where do you get the money? You spoil yourself. I lost all motivation to buy anything video game related after I bought the PS3, which was $600 at the time or something like that.
Anyway, regarding your Halo reference.. I think it's just because Halo was originally so success (and continues to be successful) that with each new game in that series, more people are just going "Ugh, fuck off Halo!"
This game looks like Geist for the Gamecube. Not in terms of gameplay, but graphics and design. That's cool, because I'm one of the few people who really enjoyed Geist (especially multiplayer) so I really do hope that this is good, at least for the sake of the Wii.
However.... I don't expect anything other than an at best mediocre FPS. Why?

Not an outstanding track record. Some of their games look to have been somewhat well received, but judging by the scores, their games may be getting progressively worse.

I think they are planning for multiplayer in the game, not sure if it's online or local or both though but I remember them mentioning that the main game is nearly complete and they were shifting to multiplayer or something like that.
-
I've never been a fan of FPS's, I suck at them. When I first saw the screenshots and everyone was hyping them, I couldn't understand what was so great about them, until I saw the videos. I looks even better than Prime3, IMO.
I'm not of the idea that graphics are everything, but I do like to see how developers use a console to its full potential to achieve amazing effects. I find graphics more beatiful that way.
So at least lets way and see how it plays. :)

Online multiplayer/ voice chat has already been confirmed.

yeah i know right not enough bloom. :/

Ah, I wasn't sure. I remember early on they said they were thinking about it but that was like, back when they first showed screens of the game. I haven't read many interviews involving them since then.
Jawesomeness if that's the case, then. ;)
-
This game reminds me of Perfect Dark 64 for some reason. I prefer FPSs on the PC over their console counterparts.......but since this is exclusive to the Wii, I'll get it if it gets good reviews.
-
Bumped this topic a bit, seeing that the game released today. I played it and its alright, but honestly if this was on the 360 or PS3 it would be very obscure. It adds nothing new but it has some great controls that are completely customizable and the multiplayer is unlike anything I have seen in an fps, on the wii that is. I will buy it, but only to have a quality FPS game on the wii, and it did get some good review scores to boot(other than Gamepro so far, but all they do is bitch). Also I dig the box art:
(http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/2750/theconduitus.jpg) (http://img4.imageshack.us/i/theconduitus.jpg/)
Its so generic and cheezy looking that it is awesome.
-
I haven't read the Gamepro review though, but I heard that they apparently dock points for the game's controls... which is nuts seeing as you can customize just about every aspect of the controls available. Go figure...
Anyway, I'd have the game today if Gamestop didn't suck, I'll have it tomorrow then. -_-
-
I'm in the credits for this game, btw. ;D
I really liked it. The campaign could've done with being longer but apparently the disc is completely full and they couldn't fit any more content on it. Good ol' Wii
-
in the credits for what out of curosity>?
-
sega of europe qa functionality tester, most likely. when i was on it the credits weren't even in game so i haven't yet seen it :(
-

No kidding, I hear the campaign is 5 hours if you minus the deaths and just breeze through it without looking for unlockables. I think they wanted to focus on multiplayer mainly though, and it is great fun.

Well it's like games radar said "Stuff that sucks about reviewing games #475: You jot down a poignantly hilarious aside, heroically skewering a game for a specific fault… then you check the menu and realize that it’s optional/adjustable and you look like an asshole for not being thorough" which just basically cock slapped Gamepro in the face.
-
Yeah the multiplayer is brilliant. If you play campaign on the hardest difficulty it should take you a few days though, and tbh to find half the unlockables you're gonna need to use the ASE on every single wall. Good luck with that. :Þ
-
I like the ASE, but the fact that it requires you to scan every wall reminds me of when you had to constantly throw holy water on the floor in Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest.
-
@ Sarevok
How'd you get in? Contributed a control scheme that they chose or something?
-
Applied and got hired?

Applied and got hired?
Ah, I totally missed the post about him being a QA tester. (bastard :P)
The only other way I knew (aside from him having some direct affiliation with the game) was that HVS held some contest where gamers could devise their own control schemes that could be used as selectable defaults under their names and have their names in the end credits.

doom 3 still looks amazing. it was ahead of its time.
-
Kinda. On closer examination (aka just by playing it beyond the really dark areas) you can see it's actually incredibly plastic-looking and everything looks a bit crap. It's very, very smooth for sure, but it's not 'amazing' by any definition.
-
HVS tends to hype up their engine only because they're proving a point to other third party publishers that the Wii is a lot more capable than many are taking it for, not that it's necessarily more capable than other machines out there.
Not that a whole lot has changed but those are also older screenshots and having been through the game (unless I missed something) some of those things don't even happen or you don't see them. For instance, the giant spider-like alien in the command room sequence I don't recall having seen happen and those reddish looking aliens I don't even remember seeing in the game at all. (despite being part of distributed art assets and screenshots even up until E3 I believe) Heck, when you find out the entire story behind Prometheus, he's not even the same way as was described in the initial manual leak sometime after GDC this year.
-
what's the special part of this game
i saw a vid of it on youtube and it looked very ordinary
except wiggle controls
so what's special about it? just seems like another run of the mill fps, which isn't that bad if you really love fpses, I guess
-
Nothing really, the game is pretty standard fare for an FPS. There is more to its novelty with Wii owners on the graphics front and the customizable controls/interface has been a highly touted feature since it was introduced (and it makes a difference, I resided my game's bounding box to mimic that of MP3: Corruption... so jawesome) but otherwise there is nothing special per se, about it. Multiplayer is a lot of fun though and that seems to be the biggest draw of it with most of those I know that own it. Of my friends I'm the only one that beat its single player, everyone else pretty much got it for multi exclusively.
