HOW badly did THAT game suck?
-- edit, since, yes, this was truly a lousy post originally. --
i picked it up hoping for something similar to hotel dusk: room 215, which i played last summer and absolutely adored. hotel dusk featured innovative puzzles, an interesting storyline, killer graphics and diverse characters; it kept me hooked for a good ten to twelve hours or so. i wouldn't say it has too much replay value, but i certainly have fond memories of it.
i had hopes that jake hunter would be a similar hard-boiled noir detective romp. it's divided into three cases, so i began the first one. however, while the first five minutes showed promise that it would be an intelligent adventure game, with subjects to interrogate, clues to unravel, logic-bases puzzles to solve... i found that i'd already beaten the first case in under an hour. wait, what? i'd barely even become engaged in the storyline. there was hardly any sleuthing to be done, jake hunter would occasionally ask you to review the aspects of the case in an easy multiple choice question review, but aside from that, the game held your hand, not letting you even leave a room until you were "done" (which in some cases, simply involved repeating a question to one of the characters), all but telling you which inventory item to use in whichever instance, and... just... grah. so i thought, okay, maybe it's just the first case that's like this, maybe it's an introduction, or a tutorial. but no, the next two chapters proved to be equally irritating. the first obvious suspect would generally prove to be the actual perp, there was little to no character development for anyone, let alone jake hunter, who would randomly tell us, for instance, that he had connections to japanese gangs... with no background or reason for us to understand it.
agh. i'm going to stop now, because the reason for this post WAS just wanting to hear from others if they had a better gaming experience with it than i did. but yes, sorry for the original abruptness of the post, guys. :)

discuss.
GW is one of those crazy places on the internet which appreciates it when users post topics that contain more substance as well as their own opinion.
You did not hear this from me though, it was a little bird. Shhhhh.

I loved Jake Hunter. Screw you, TC.

Wow this is worse than my topics O_o

Atari has signed Jamie "pukka pukka gorgeous lisp" Oliver to star in a DS cooking game this October.
Due out this Christmas, probably alongside the chef's Sainsbury's adverts, "What's Cooking? With Jamie Oliver" will walk you through piles of his sumptuous feasts.
The recipes, numbering about 100, are all illustrated by the chap who takes pictures for the Jamie Oliver books, and cooking advice stretches as far as what to buy in the supermarket. There's room for 100 of your own creations that you can share with friends or family using Wi-Fi, too.
Cooking is done in a 3D kitchen using the DS stylus to chop and stir and all the rest, and once you get good enough you can challenge your friends in an online cook-off.
"I really want to get as many people as I can cooking simple, tasty food, so I'm really excited about bringing a book's worth of my recipes to a game for the first time," said Jamie Oliver, maybe at home, relaxed, or out in the garden picking tomatoes.
"You can cook my recipes for real at home or in the game's 3D kitchens, but what's brilliant is that you can come up with your own recipes then share them with your mates and family over Wi-Fi. Lovely."
Head over to our What's Cooking? With Jamie Oliver gallery for the first screenshots. And yes, this was announced during E3 week, but we didn't get to it in time. Slow news day what back off?

apologies for the awful topic, the original post has been edited with actual content!

Much better post!
Would this game be a good recommendation for someone who has never played a detective game before? I could, I don't know, try this and then move on to the "bigger and better" ones like Phoenix Wright or something.

hmmm. that's a good question, actually. i would perhaps recommend hotel dusk instead. jake hunter just didn't have enough content to leave you interested in the detective game genre; it left you feeling empty, while hotel dusk was satisfying and memorable, while still not being a difficult game. the reason it took me as long as it did was because of the development of the plot, the twists and turns, and the investigation you had to do due to this. i don't remember having any difficulties with the level of the puzzles, but maybe that's because i'm an experienced adventure gamer.
in fact, if i had to recommend a game as an entry into the world of detective games, it would actually be the famicom detective club, part II, for the SNES. at this point, it's abandonware, so you can legally find it here, in english: http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=5053

If you don't like reading then you will not enjoy this game. Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles is nothing more than an interactive novel. However, I found the game to be pretty fun, even though there wasn't much interactivity. UPRC I would suggest just going straight to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and giving this game a pass unless you're a die-hard detective game/book fan.

Thanks a lot, Nut Munching Girl Avatar Guy. Phoenix Wright it'll be then.
-
i would have suggested he go straight for phoenix wright as well, except that he mentioned that he's somewhat new to the genre, so i thought some of the trials might be a little bit difficult. however, yes, completely agreed, the ace attorney series surpasses all the games i mentioned by far.

Coincidentally, my avatar is one of the characters from Apollo Justice. Also, some of the trials in the PW games might be tough, but they're not impossible.

Basically, all I wanted to say was in this post.
EDIT: Also, Famicom Tantei Kuraba 2 was my favorite game back when I was a newbie to visual novels! Disregard the 'screw you' I said earlier.
